I left Ireland over 50 years ago, with 3 children under 4. Then had the 4 one in Australia. I have been watching your very challenging adventure with your cottage. I do admire you both as it is a mammoth job to take on. I got very emotional when I looked at the green fields, the donkeys, the chickens and the domestic animals. It brought back memories for me. I miss my home in Ireland, even though Australia has been good to us. I wish you all the very best and success in the rest of your restoration work. I shall still be with you on your project. God be with you all.
I have such an out pouring of pride for your family for what you have achieved. This type of compilation videos usually hits 100 of thousands view. You portray yourself with such dignity, grace and self humour. You have the perfect combination. All the best going forward. Looking forward to hearing Euan Irish accent in future years.
You have done such a good job of making us a part of your family. I have become so invested in your success. Thank you for the efforts you've put in to add us to an almost overwhelming amount of work. Rest well, enjoy your success so far, and remember how appreciated you are.
I found out this week that I have dual nationality. My father left Dublin in 1939 aged 19 to help the British fight the Germans. He only returned once when he took us on a long tour of the Republic in 1980. Thanks to dad never relinquishing his Irish nationality I just discovered I was granted Irish citizenship at birth. This pleases me far more than I can explain.
@renatal1972 it's granted by the Republic of Ireland government. If at least one parent was born and raised in Ireland before 2005 and never relinquished their Irish nationality, then their children are automatically granted Irish citizenship at birth. It's on their government website.

Hello Rebecca, Sam and family. You remind me and the Mrs. of us when we were much younger. We had bought a destroyed ranch home . We ended up rebuilding it and slapping a second floor on it . We raised our five children ,and our own menagerie of animals in that home for 50 years.I see a lot of love put into the walls of your guys new home. Live long & fruitful lives. God bless you all from across the big pond. From the Mullins clan to yours. A forever fan in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I adore your homestead and animal menagerie. Such a wonderful journey that you and your children are taking. You both seem to be talented, industrious, generous and kind and you'll imbue your children with the same. The property has come so very far and you must be delighted (or as Sam says, "chuffed"). Thanks for sharing the compilation of your adventures.
I just found you and I’m blown away by how much work you have accomplished in a very short amount of time. I have family in Ireland so I know how many derelict abandoned farms there are scattered about. It is heartbreaking to see them collapse from the elements. It’s people like you who bring life back to these historic treasures. I’m looking forward to cheering you on as you progress.
Did this back in the 1980s and the feeling (as you say) on awakening each morning was priceless. Bernard, you were a blessing and I still grieve for you. My love and lover.
So enjoyed seeing everything you have done in this one video! What a journey! Your narration was so well done! Loved that you adopted Toby! Very lucky boy! 😊🌸🌺
Hi folks, I so know what you mean when you just know when you find your home. I was a single mum with two children and so I bought a fixer-upper. I didn't even know the price but it had a lovely front porch and I could see myself sitting there each morning which I do every day plus it had a lovely rumpus room for my growing children's own lounge space. It has been a joy watching your family's progress. I love your honesty with dealing with your progress. Watching you both bring out your natural strengths in different areas. Rebecca your stone work skills are very impressive. Like you guys I saved as I went and renovated as funds allowed. Sam you are a power house and a true builder talent. Your love for each other is beautiful to watch. Observing you young son and daughter helping is so cool too. I know you will complete your renovation journey and I will enjoy continuing tuning in. I was told once we never stop creating our home because as we love it our home loves us back.❤❤❤
Thanks so much, Marie. Yes, like you, we had to have it as soon as we saw it. No real thought about the work that lay ahead but we could just picture the life we would have here and how amazing it would be. I'm so glad you enjoy watching, and it brings back lovely memories for you. ♥️
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING OUR IRISH ANIMALS! 💙💖 I used to be a volunteer until I got sick. I had 3 donkeys who owned me and The Donkey Sanctuary homes together, we neutered 80 cats locally, I still have 9 and no doubt there'll always be more in need. 🙏
Your sheer hard work, dedication and love you have for this restoration absolutely amazes me and the fact you’re on a budget amazes me even more. You should all be so very proud of yourselves and the end result will be stunning I’m sure ❤

New subscriber from the USA, I really enjoy watching the way European people love their heritage and fixing dilapidated homes. That stonework and metal roof looks STUNNING, as you might know these things are not used in American homes but I sure love what you’re doing…
Actually my granddad on my mother's side built stone homes made of local Oklahoma red/or pink sandstone during the Great depression ...also built them for the WPA (Work's Progress Administration) in the State Parks under FDR ...I think their are some old stone buildings still standing in Pennsylvania & out East too, New York, Maryland, Virginia , & so on ...even from Colonial times.
The reason that I watch your channel is because of the incredible love I see in the two of you and in your family. You are exceptional people! You are brave, tenacious and you persevere. I am absolutely addicted to watching you! That’s a good thing. To leave your jobs, home buy a travel trailer and take your young children around Europe was an amazing thing to me. But you have continued to grow and change by deciding to renovate the derelict Irish homestead. You definitely do have guardian angels watching over you! God bless each of you! Jesus loves you! Sincerely, Patricia
I first subscribed to your channel in December 23 after deciding to move from South Africa to Ireland which came about in the January this year. What an amazing reminder this episode was of all you have been through and achieved to date !! Your hard work and dedication to this project has been an inspiration to me and so many others on teamwork and commitment and endurance ( slow and steady wins the race ). You only have to see how your channel has grown, well done Bex on your editing by the way. So as we all continue to watch each episode in the future as followers I look forward to continued progress. Onwards and upwards to the completion of your new home. Truly awesome to be able to share this journey with you all. Thanks team ❤

Recently I have been binge watching restoration videos and your channel is one of my favorites. Grand Mansions are all very well but this kind of rebuild tugs at the heartstrings. What courageous people you are to risk everything and follow your dreams. So many people just stay home and complain. You inspire me and so many others.
What a fascinatingly poignant potted history of your first year. I firmly believe that "what is for you won't pass you" - you have done very well to survive the ups and downs so far and you can grab your chances as you go. You can and will succeed. If you need help or advice, or you are facing deep, dark issues, just ask. There are lots of us out here willing you on and more than happy to help with our own experiences ( good and bad ) as a guide for you. A huge thank you to all the family for letting us share your stories.
Thanks David. I believe in that too. I definitely feel we are meant to be here renovating this cottage. It felt like home bassoon as we saw it. We really appreciate all the amazing kind support 👍♥️
it's funny that I found your channel because I was looking to see if it were feasible to insulate and clad a static caravan and am now completely engrossed in your build journey.
Just imagine where all the stones have been and if they could talk what they have seen and been a part of! The history has to be amazing. I think it might be a wonderful idea if the kids, if they are old enough, to go and research the land, the history of the area, and the age of the house, the families all kinds of cool and wonderful things! Also, I hear the automatic groan from the kids, but.. if you write a short report on these things, different from each other of course, when you are done, you have ready made reports that you can put together that your instructors ask your classes to do! Ready made topics also! There is no end to what you could find out! Also, now that you have Toby, writing down the care and feeding of a donkey is good to know, also. What Toby likes and doesn’t like, his favorite foods, and how he likes to be petted and where, and what he does if he gets ornery! Also the chickens! They have wonderful things about them. Which he s lay their eggs in a bush, under a tree, in the hen house? And the scavenger hunt to find the eggs they have laid! I wish I could do what you and the kids are doing! You are sharing a dream, I never knew, was in my 💜! Thank you so much! I can’t wIt to see how it all turns out!
You are such kind and thoughtful people, not.only towards your fellowman and woman but towards Gods creatures as well. I’m sure God long ago took notice. ❤
When I first started watching your journey I worried about Toby. I soon realized I need not. And now you’ve become a real farm and gathered many friends, two legged, four legged, winged and fins. Noah’s ark on land. Rock on! 🥰
You guys are made of steel. Plus point is you two are looks like one? Alway get on with stuff no argument. You guys amazing amount of work you have done unbelievable. May God bless you
Thank you for this summary video - I found your channel recently so I had no idea how you had come live in Ireland. You are very brave to follow your hearts - many people refuse to leave secure jobs and familiar surroundings to listen to that call. I’m really excited to see your adventures during the next phase of the house renovation because once the floor is sorted you’ll be able to work on the roof and interior construction. What I really appreciate about your channel is that your family (especially Rebecca) loves animals, which comes through in every episode❤ What you’re doing is hard work but you can feel in your bones that this is where you’re supposed to be and what you’re supposed to be doing. I really do believe that you’re being watched over by angels. That doesn’t mean that your journey will be easy but your path will be certainly be interesting and fulfilling. I’m really grateful that I get to share it with you through the magic of RUclips.
Thanks for the lovely message. Yes we are ALL big animal lovers....don't let Sam fool you. Have you seen that foster kitten and beard video on Facebook/instagram 🤣💞💞 He loves that animals as much as me 😉 We love to combine it all in our videos and glad that you appreciate that and enjoy watching. ♥️
So happy you are pursuing your dreams, and thank you for bringing us on the journey with you. I'm also thankful I'm not doing all that manual labour, just watching Sam for 5 minutes wears me out!
I actually watched this on Roku, but I just wanted to say that Sam guy is a beast; in the best way. A man with purpose and focus is wonderful to see. A good woman at his side is a treasure beyond measure. I hope the kids come to realize how rare an experience they are living. I hope they achieve their goals and that their family is blessed in the future.
A year on and so much has been done. You guys are real. Just getting the jobs done and on the way collect a few beasts along the way. You two are an inspiration, truly . You show the real stuff even the parts that are not so pretty (no floaty dresses and Instagram worthy shots) saying that though what a gorgeous part of the world and amazing people who just want to help. There are decent people in the world ❤ Toby is getting a friend and he is a different donkey from when you found him. I love what you're doing I just wish I could do the same ❤❤❤ Keep going, be kind to yourselves.
Lol definitely no floaty dresses here. They wouldn't survive an hour! We are definitely lucky and feel so grateful to have found this place. It's a privilege to be able to bring it back to life. So glad you enjoy watching and hopefully you will get to do the same one day if that's what you want. 🤞🍀
The part of the video where you got Toby, did it for me. Such a good thing you've done for him. I hate seeing animals abused. I'm sure he's now a part of the family and a lot happier and safer now. I have just subscribed, and looking forward to watching your progress.

We all have absolute faith in your abilities to finish this project & look forward to watching you do it. f time.

See the Sam who was not especially keen on the fostering project with the 1st foster kitten was so touching. Keep on keeping on. Building your dreams is the best way forward & when you stay true through thick & thin, help will always arrive. Much love
Yes Sam is very much an animal person...he just doesn't like to admit it! The kitten loves him...especially the beard! Thanks and yes we will keep going. 💪
This is a very familiar story for us, I have really enjoyed watching this round-up video. We left the UK in 2007 and went travelling for 14 months with our four children in a Leyland Tiger bus we transformed and after 14 months we also realised we needed a base for the children so we settled in the mountains for South Central France and after a few years renting property we bought an abandoned farm which we have spent now nearly seven years renovating on a similarly shoe-string budget (still think we have a couple of years to go) . I love your open and honest approach to your story - it is a welcome change on youtube to see the way things really are. Bravo you guys. I shall keep watching your progress
Thank you that's means a lot coming from a fellow family doing things differently. It really makes you appreciate little things like water that doesn't freeze and stop for days, l electricity and being warm and dry!
Been with you since the cladding of the caravan and it was so fun to se a compilation of all the work so far. You do such a great work not only with the renovations but also with the video editing!
I came across your channel when the girls visited you and noted you were that but ahead of them - this vlog has been fantastic in helping me understand your journey. Thank goodness you were kind to Toby - his initial sounds just sounded like cries of pain (my Kelpie became quite vocal!) - one huge challenge and now I understand why sometimes Sam comes across as being over it! You will finish and be able to sit back and know you did it to create a beautiful home for your family

So inspiring to see how you transformed your home. Hats off to Sam he is incredible. It's unbelievable how much effort you put into this labour of love
Great channel guys, thanks so much for sharing, it reminds me so much of my own childhood where my parents renovated an old Irish house in Northern Ireland. Unfortunately back then we had little to no modern machinery and my father did everything by hand, including digging a full sewer system. There were little to no grants and he worked as a carpenter all day before coming home in the evening and all weekend to do the renovation. Keep up the great work guys and thanks again for sharing your story. It great watching the transformation.
Wow digging by hand is no mean feat! Sam has done it in bits where the machine can't get or when he is planting my trees and have a huge appreciation for those who did it in the past without machinery. 💪

Thank you that's lovely to read. ♥️
I have such an out pouring of pride for your family for what you have achieved. This type of compilation videos usually hits 100 of thousands view. You portray yourself with such dignity, grace and self humour. You have the perfect combination. All the best going forward. Looking forward to hearing Euan Irish accent in future years.
Thanks. I wish it would hit 100s of thousands lol. I'm sure we will all have an irish accent soon enough and I'm glad as love it!
Can we take a moment to appreciate how good Sam got at concrete and form work??!
Thanks, just on the last bit of the main house, its a huge mission
You have done such a good job of making us a part of your family. I have become so invested in your success. Thank you for the efforts you've put in to add us to an almost overwhelming amount of work.
Rest well, enjoy your success so far, and remember how appreciated you are.
Thanks Abigail. We definitely need to do that more. We never celebrate any milestones and we should do that more often. 👍
👍
How did you reach this? I’m curious because my family came from Prussia in 1890 and wonder if it passes along to me.
@renatal1972 it's granted by the Republic of Ireland government. If at least one parent was born and raised in Ireland before 2005 and never relinquished their Irish nationality, then their children are automatically granted Irish citizenship at birth.
It's on their government website.
@@forlorndream1400 my mother was born in Northern Ireland and I also, a couple of years ago, got my Irish citizenship! I was born in Canada, I've lived in Northern Ireland for 17 years now and live 2 hours away from these lovely ppl! Welcome home
@renatal1972
Even though I was born in Cyprus has born of British Citizenship and citizen are left Cyprus in 1953
I returned in 1983 got married 84 my daughter was born in 85 the register at the British consulate with British passport
Now my grandkids I believe can also claim British citizenship because the father is Greek photo of Greek passport
Being born in Cyprus they can also claim Cypriot citizenship I'm not sure how far back this can go
So if your family is originally from Prussia go and ask the German Embassy😃😃😃🍷🍷🍷
I love that you rescued Toby and foster. That says everything about you - good folk.! No wonder people come to your rescue - like attracts like. Good luck good fortune with the project. ❤

Absolutely blown away by how great you two are, Sam and Bex the task you have undertaken is huge, but week in week out, you just get on with the next job to do. Looking back on this video you can see the big changes, its Looking great, and I'm beginning to think that you are both capable of anything. Well done, enjoy your visitors whilst they are visiting, lotsaluv from Michelle xx
Great to see how far you have come great commitment and determination it must have been a bit scary at times keep it going best of irish luck from cork

Wow! Just amazing how much work you guys have done. Can’t wait to see more😊. Watching from Tasmania Australia 👋

Your dedication to your homestead is impressive! I'm sure you will be happy and proud to live in and maintain this wonderful piece of history for many years to come! As well as a legacy to gift your children. I wish you all the best for your future!
You may have destroyed the heart of the house but, you and your young family, will make a New Heart in the House
Wow! What a give Adam was! I can only imagine what an incredible boost of encouragement it must have been to have someone come alongside you like that. The world STILL has good people. Amazing
Adam coming was amazing
This was better than watching chateaus and palaces being restored. Such hard work against odds. Hope there's a sequel to see you folks getting over the line. Thumbs up and subscribed! ☝☝✌
Glad you enjoyed it! I was worried it may be boring but the response has been overwhelming!
Lovely to watch! I love that you’re enjoying life along the journey of reinventing the beautiful old farmstead! Adding chickens, Toby, kitten! I’m so happy for you! Your kids will remember these times fondly! ❤
it makes me so happy to know that ireland has set aside grant money to encourage people to start renovating all the decaying homes! and i’m also very happy that you guys were able to get the grant :) amazing work! looks absolutely exhausting but completely worth it!! excited to watch your progress ❤
Love this! Thanks David. So nice we bring back find memories for you. ♥️

It was great to have that little look back over it all. It was a good reminder for us too about how far we had come.
I just found you and I’m blown away by how much work you have accomplished in a very short amount of time. I have family in Ireland so I know how many derelict abandoned farms there are scattered about. It is heartbreaking to see them collapse from the elements. It’s people like you who bring life back to these historic treasures. I’m looking forward to cheering you on as you progress.
nice 1 guys i'm delighted to see people offering their services to help you, looking forward now to wednesday.
Yes we are so grateful! How we would have coped without Adam, Tim & Patrick I have no idea
Thanks we feel so grateful for their help. ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it! Toby is just great fun to have around!
My favorite part of this video is when Sam was nuzzling the kitten 💕
Yes so many animals need help. I wish I could do more! Thanks for everything you did.
Well done you!
@@theirishhomesteadhighlight and the help will come...🙏

Your sheer hard work, dedication and love you have for this restoration absolutely amazes me and the fact you’re on a budget amazes me even more. You should all be so very proud of yourselves and the end result will be stunning I’m sure ❤
Thank you very much! That's kind of you 💞
My back hurts just watching you move those rocks! Very interesting watching the construction.
You are both smashing it. Thank you for rescuing that wonderful Toby. All the best for the future and can't wait for next video😅

this man is an absolute unit!
@@jimzucker I was thinking the same thing. He/they have saved so much money in doing the work themselves. Can I ask what is Sam’s profession??
Well done both 👌🏻
Talk about a labor of love. This restoration is remarkable. Most would have razed these structures and built new ones.
You can tell that a lot of work has gone into this amazing video! Fantastic what you are achieving. Best of luck with the build. You're all amazing!
Thank you very much!
To leave your jobs, home
buy a travel trailer and
take your young children
around Europe was an
amazing thing to me. But
you have continued to
grow and change by deciding to renovate the derelict Irish homestead.
You definitely do have guardian angels watching over you! God bless each of you! Jesus loves you!

Thankyou, yes it was a big decision to leave our life as we knew it and embark on this adventure
Love your care of the animals

I have been watching since you started this huge job. For new comers you should know Bex, has also worked very hard and next to Sam not only making videos. I love how you've worked together through so many trials in life❤

Thank you so much for the continued support. I hope you are settling in well here. Ireland is such a beautiful and friendly place to be. Our neighbours down the lane also relocated from SA and now all their parents are here too!
I did this in Ireland with my late husband in the west of Ireland 25 years ago. Wonderful wonderful times. The Irish people are also wonderful and will make you very welcome. Enjoy this time and remember every moment with your family 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪❤️
Thank you. I think we will be so grateful when we look back that we have a filmed record of it.
Well done to all the family for your achievement, love watching every new update:)))

Sam petting the kitten with his beard won my heart. All of you have done a phenomenal job and deserve the most beautiful house ever! Good luck and God’s speed🌹
What beautiful countryside. Love seeing the progress. Good luck! From Canada.
Although I've been following along since the beginning, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this recap of all that you've accomplished ❤ Thank you, thank you for sharing your journey with us. Living vicariously through you.
I just found you guys the stories your children will have to tell and the pride they will have in telling them.
You are all amazing Love your work ethic and your love of animals.Toby is a lucky donkey.

Recently I have been binge watching restoration videos and your channel is one of my favorites. Grand Mansions are all very well but this kind of rebuild tugs at the heartstrings. What courageous people you are to risk everything and follow your dreams. So many people just stay home and complain. You inspire me and so many others.
Thank you that's so kind. It's such a special little cottage. We enjoy sharing the journey with everyone.
With that daunting task before you, you take time out to help, and adopt a donkey. They are such wonderful creatures. God bless you.❤
I'm amazed at all the hard work you and your occasional helpers, friends, etc. have done. Truly amazing.
Wow, thank you!
You have all done a bloody good job.

Thanks Clive 👍

Aww thanks. Hopefully we showed it was totally feasible and has been the best thing we did!
Its been wonderful to watch you both rescue this old wreck and also to watch you both heal and and grow with new skills
Thank you, that's very kind. We just hope we can do the cottage justice.
May God bless you
Lots of time-lapse helps cover the arguments! Only joking we do thankfully get on well and appreciate each other's efforts. ♥️
Have you seen that foster kitten and beard video on Facebook/instagram 🤣💞💞 He loves that animals as much as me 😉
We love to combine it all in our videos and glad that you appreciate that and enjoy watching. ♥️
So happy you are pursuing your dreams, and thank you for bringing us on the journey with you. I'm also thankful I'm not doing all that manual labour, just watching Sam for 5 minutes wears me out!
You are so welcome! Yes it's definitely been more graft than we expected. 😫🤣
Fantastic credit to you both 💚🇮🇪🍀👌

Aww thanks so much ♥️
I actually watched this on Roku, but I just wanted to say that Sam guy is a beast; in the best way. A man with purpose and focus is wonderful to see. A good woman at his side is a treasure beyond measure. I hope the kids come to realize how rare an experience they are living. I hope they achieve their goals and that their family is blessed in the future.
Thank you so much. ♥️
Keep going, be kind to yourselves.
Lol definitely no floaty dresses here. They wouldn't survive an hour! We are definitely lucky and feel so grateful to have found this place. It's a privilege to be able to bring it back to life. So glad you enjoy watching and hopefully you will get to do the same one day if that's what you want. 🤞🍀

What a gutsy, hard working couple you two are! Loving watching your videos, keep it up!
Seeing all of your work condensed into 50 mins emphasises the amazing progress you have made in such a short space of time. Your stone masonry skills were plain to see even when you were finishing off the base of the caravan. We all have absolute faith in your abilities to finish this project & look forward to watching you do it.

What a treat to watch such a thorough recap of all the amazing work you have accomplished so far. Hats of to you both.
Thank you very much! That video wasa lot of work but worth it as a boost for our own morale too.
You did a great job on the Caravan!
Did exactly the same thing. So went back to the beginning of theirs. Cannot wait for each vlog and tomorrow it's the girls turn.
I did notice a quick glimpse of them in Wednesday vlog as well.
It is a huge challenge and like Emily & Lou one job often leads to another you weren't expecting to do! All good fun🤔🤣😫
Good luck, make sure the roof is secured before winter! Put in a logburner, it'll heat the whole cottage

So inspiring to see how you transformed your home.
Hats off to Sam he is incredible. It's unbelievable how much effort you put into this labour of love
Thank you so much!
What a huge project. Your hubby is amazing being able to do all those things himself. Going to be a stunning home.
Thank you so much!
