  • Bonjour à tous.
This week at the chateau, we take a look back at when we bought the crumbling Chateau de Lalacelle. Abandoned for over 40 years, this beautiful monument was in a sad state of disrepair, with crumbling chimneys, broken widows and leaking roof, the chateau did not have must life left in her.
With the start of the restoration in 2021 we look through some of the massive jobs over the two years of owning a abandoned chateau in 20 minutes, the family have achieved so much in this time with beautiful finished rooms.
join us on our family journey restoring this beautiful chateau to its former glory.

    About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

I love the fact that you kept the heart of the chateau alive. You didn’t restore it to a modern home. You kept the essence of that amazing architecture, and made it a home again. c’est juste magnifique!!

@@Themrine2013 To be honest, that place needed to be demolished. I would have stripped out all the wood and sold it or burned it. Then I would have pushed it all over in a day with a big excavator. And carted away all the rubble in a week.
Then in 50 weeks I build a 3 storey modern chateau. In just a year, not 2, I would have a nice modern property, built properly with modern materials.

From the moment this channel began, I have been here. Through the back breaking work, the disappointments, tears and struggles...there was something else that rose far above this. The determination, love, smiles, encouragement and family. The pain staking details on every single job, just that perfect piece to make it all come together, that hue of paint or stain that changed the entire room or piece. The incredible talent of each member of the family came together in unison every single day of the last 2 years. THIS is how you renovate a chateau!!!!❤ Standing ovation!!!!!👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

This is spectacular!! The careful thought of each room's restoration is clearly evident. The furnishings, decor, colors, fixtures, finishings....perfect! I love how you have respected the chateau's history and kept so much of the original finishings, woodwork etc, opting to restore them to their former glory as they would have been in its heyday, rather than replace them...wallpaper the panels...or paint over them. What you have done is exactly how i envisioned it should look. I cannot even imagine how much work and stress, frustration, blood, sweat and tears you have put into this project....and looking at the size of the place you are nowhere close to being finished. Not many, myself included, have the guts (or finances) to take on such a colossal project. Thank you for preserving such a beautiful piece of history.

Stunning, most beautiful and amazing makeover I've seen, thank you!! I love it!! Here in America they tear down old homes and put up cement boxes, it's horrific.

Thanks for taking us along on your great adventure. You've truly showcased what a few determined people can accomplish in just two years. If you hadn't produced these videos I would never have believed that such a small family could possibly achieve so much. And, you aren't just repairing the chateau, you are doing a first rate reclamation and setting the stage for an ongoing truthful restoration. You have saved a genuine work of art and in doing so you are preserving architectural history for future generations to see and touch. I think the government of France should assist your restoration as much as possible. What almost gets lost in the magnitude of your accomplishments is that the chateau and the cottage are family homes which are lived in and maintained personally by the family. At times the scale of your project just doesn't seem feasible but the proof is in the fruits of your labour which you captured on video. Bonne année et bonne chance. Merci beaucoup.

Your family is simply amazing. Each one of you a master craftsman. I cannot imagine doing everything you did, by hand, no large sanders, no stain mops, no industrial strength anything, except yourselves. The beauty that was revealed in your home by all of you is breathtaking, your Chateau stunning. I was in tears at the end of the video, thank you for sharing your incredible hard work and talent, your happiness and love 💓

Thank you for this wonderful retrospective. Such amazing results for all your backbreaking and dust breathing work. I was reminded that every bit of construction rubble from the third floor was carried downstairs BY HAND in bags and buckets; just awesome! I applaud you all for making your dreams such a beautiful reality.

Beautifully restored, I am impressed and inspired. You’ve managed to breathe new life into this old but beautiful place. You have outdone yourselves! So happy that you didn’t demolish it to build a modern house. There aren’t many of these beauties around anymore.

Utterly amazing. So beautiful. The amount of work you all have put into the renovation is unbelievable. The skills you all have acquired are irreplaceable. I know what you have all done has been costly but only a fraction of paying someone to do all that. Adjust think of what Jonathan has learned about life. You are a delightful family. congratulations for a job so well done so far. Will follow you to the end. Joan

Even from the moment you walked into the building I could tell the beauty of it under the neglect.
I get so angry when even in my own town, we are so quick to tear down old, in order to build crappy new. Thank you for giving such a beautiful home another chance to shine.

To see the work you all have done in the last 2 yrs in one video is mind blowing. The drive, the energy, the vision is remarkable and thru it all no tantrums, fallouts or arguments which shows the kindness, respect and above all else the love you have for each other. It’s a joy to see and experience. Huge congratulations on what you have achieved.
We how have high expectations for how the rest of the chateau and grounds will look like over the next two years!
I hope that as you have done such a great retrospective video that it means they were able to restore your hard drive on your old computer. To have lost all that footage of the ongoing progress of each project would have been devastating.
All the very best for the new year from Neil in Australia 🇦🇺
