Yeah this one was pretty hard to grasp and decipher but I definitely tried my best to pick up some of the concepts!

After your list of Tool songs, you will NEED to listen to Lateralus. That will bring meaning to a lot of questions you may have :) Spiral out!
Keep going
Lateralus is kind of advanced for a newbie. I think he needs a few more songs under his belt first.
lol lateralus is the most overrated tool song @@aintnozombiecatchinmyass..4873
@@jerryatgmaildotcom that's your opinion
I've never seen a TOOL video as good as just closing my eyes and listening deeper.
1. You are adorable with your enthusiasm.
2. Tool will never let you down. Maynard wants you to take your own meaning away with each listening. As we go through life and experience things, these songs have a ever-changing meaning.
3. The music is composed by Justin, Danny, and Adam first; then Maynard writes the lyrics after that is perfected.
The thing with the music videos is they are so visually stimulating while the music itself is such an atmospheric immersion, you'll just miss so much more in the music getting caught up in the video
Rarely is there a singular interpretation of any Tool song and I believe this is intentional. When this song was first released I thought it was about society much like Xanny.. and as I got older I understood it to be about a particular romantic relationship. Now I believe it's both -- and the song intentionally sheds light on how this constructive and destructive pattern repeats itself on the micro and macro level. In short: Maynard is a genius.
I'm sure I won't be the only one to recommend this, but you definitely gotta add the songs "Lateralus" and "Invincible to your Tool list. Two of their top 5 songs in my opinion.
Hoooold on! Keep ‘em coming! You’re doing great! Don’t worry about misinterpreting the songs, just take them in however you feel… you won’t be wrong.
Totally agree. I got into Tool about 10 yrs ago & for most of that time I didn't really try to find out the 'official' meaning. I had my own interpretations & just let the music wash over me.
It has been interesting to read different interpretations & what the bands intensions were but, ultimately, I'm here for the music & how it makes me feel.
Schism generally refers to a split in churches or dogma such as when the Protestants broke away from the Catholic Church. The song Parabol/parabola is also a play on religious wording from Jesus’ “parables”. Maynard has a tendency to cleverly slip a ton religious tones into his lyrics. You’ll see them everywhere. Schism is about a failed relationship whether between families/lovers/churches…. Welcome to the family
I’ve been listening to Tool since *Aenima* hit in the late 90s, and I don’t really think they have a shallow side. They do, however, absolutely have a VERY eccentric sense of humour that I adore.
TOOL is the only tool you’ll need. The Grudge has helped me work out a lot of grief in my life, saw them live in Nashville (Maynard never came to the front of the stage) they played The Grudge and it changed my heartbeat to match Danny murdering his drums 🤘🏼 spiral out xoxo
The grudge always holds a special place for me, lateralus was the first album I heard and the grudge was the perfect opening for it 😎
The best thing about Tool is that it speaks to everyone in their own way but in the same way. You don’t need to explain it. Because you intimately feel it. You are 2 songs in and it’s already a part of the fabric of your life. I have listened to Tool since the first song they released. It’s a part of the fabric of my life and so many times is the soundtrack for my life. Enjoy the ride!!
@garypointer3496 Tool "speaks to everyone in their own way, but in the same way. You don't need to explain it. Because you intimately feel it." Perfect encapsulation. Beautifully stated.
Spiral out! Keep going!!! go down this rabbit hole!! If you appreciate music, Tool is a must.
Tool is the connection of humanity. Everyone dislikes it first listen in a social situation. Everyone has an interal awakening listening by yourself.
The song that made me fall in love with this band. No one compares, pure and simple. The video is a slightly surreal illustration of the lyrics and meaning of the song.😊
I've been a tool fan for decades and always loved them but I didn't know all the lyrics until these reaction videos. Now I'm full blown obsessed with them lol and love them on an even deeper level. I can't wait to watch your journey down the rabbit hole.🌀Every song is amazing so enjoy!
They have great lyrics in all their songs.
It's a real pleasure to have so much, great music, very unusual timing, and very deep lyrics.
I subbed for Tool 😎 I hope you keep going past your friends list. You won’t be disappointed if like truly one of kind excellent music. Don’t overthink the lyrics the first time through. These guys are geniuses. If you listen you can’t hear shit haven’t heard after hearing the song hundreds of times.
"WAKE UP" Xanny International. It's a song by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. They formed in 1991 a year after TOOL. They are a mix of RAP and FUNKY ROCK. HARD BARZ. HARD BEATZ. MEANINGFUL LYRICS. Just be like NIKE and DO IT! 🙏🤞✌
I've been a fan of tool since the mid-90s as a teenager and have been to a few of their shows and saw his other band A Perfect Circle a few times and one of the best concerts you'll ever go to and I've been to well over 50 concerts in my time.
you are not going to fully grasp any Tool song upon first listen. Don't worry about trying to make sense of it and just enjoy the ride 🤘
I listened to this album a lot back when I was in high school, and this song was the one that put me onto Tool in the first place. Unfortunately back then I wasnt the most media literate person, so I never really put the lyrics together and understood them until many years later. It was actually my mother in law who figured it out! When we moved into our home we found "I know the pieces fit" written on one of the unfinished walls of the garage. My mother in law, being from the Philipines, didnt get the reference, so my wife told her it was a song. She went and looked up the lyrics and when I told her I never really understood what the song was about she said it seemed like it was about a relationship that was close to ending and the speaker waa desperately trying to get it back to the good times.
Funny how things work out.
I love clicking on any tool reaction video bc I know for a fact 90% of the other ppl watching here are tool fans as well, one of the most obsessive fan bases 😭
We are the TOOL ARMY details are a must and hidden meaning are loud 🤘🏼
I would recommend to do studio versions of TOOL songs before you dive into the music videos or live versions.
Absolutely agreed!!😎
The lyrics to Tool song are already complex enough, let alone the videos. If you watch the vids they have you're just gonna be like, wtf was that supposed to mean...."😁🤣
Spiral out and enjoy man!!🌀🌀🌀
Fact! 🤘🏻🌀
Agree 1000%. The vids, while very unique and cool, can be distracting. IMO listen, have the lyrics handy (like you’re doing) then loop back and watch.
Affirmative
Yes, music and lyrics only.
Avoid the videos,....that's an entirely different component.
Tool music was made to touch your soul which makes it hard to put into words what exactly it is you're feeling
If you want a video that isn't a huge departure from the song and still shows their artistic creativity, do Parabol/Parabola.
My dude, your authentic reactions get me pumped. Im looking forward to your Pneuma reaction.
Pneuma live for sure. Danny is a beast in that one. Enjoy the ride 🤘
Love your reactions and analysis! Tool is a wonderful gift
I absolutely love your Tool reactions! 🔥
Yep tool pumps me up and gets me going they are my favorite band rock on
Schism is about the breakdown of relationships and the deepening sense of separation that happens when relationships begin to falter and fail. We can remember when "the pieces fit" but over time resentments and mistakes cause those pieces to "fall away", as the separation grows, we lose our ability to connect and communicate.
"Pure intentions juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion" refers to how our intentions toward our partners, though pure, are often at odds with the other's self-consciousness, and THEIR pure intentions toward us. This manifests as juxtaposition (juxtaposition is two things together that create a contrast, such as "making a mountain out of a molehill"). The consequence is a breakdown of the ability to make connection (we talk past each other). The very passionate love that brings us together drives us apart. But there is hope, because if the pieces fit before, they can be put back together. How do we manage this? By overcoming the desire to see the fault in the other and the resentments that go along with that.
Of course, I could be over-thinking, over-analyzing and withering my intuition.... (wink to toolarmy)
Best rections to Tool songs 👍
Keep it real Bro..Priceless ❤️ Portuguese here brother ❤
Headphones!!! glad others mentioned it. I didn't even notice, but you'll definitely appreciate their production in the cans.
I've listened to Tool for years and I 100% never understood all the lyrics and meanings of songs on the first listen, not even close. So there is no need to be confused that you don't get it, just keep listening and over time the meanings will reveal themselves to you based on your growth as a human. And just because someone interprets a song in a certain way doesn't mean that is the only way it can be interpreted.
Their videos are super abstract. They are made by the guitar player Adam Jones. He used to be a special effects creator for films. He worked on Jurassic Park and a whole lot of other films. When you watch a TOOL video, you are seeing something that is wholly his creation.. it’s crazy.
All Tools videos were done by their guitarist, Adam Jones, who is also a fully trained Visual Artist in Hollywood, for many movies, and tv shows. In the history of the band, they've only made eight videos for all their music.
Thank you, I was wondering
Cold silence has a tendency to
atrophy any sense of compassion!!!
Been listening to tool for 30 years. Still gets high rotation through my air pods. Maynard “our songs aren’t some catchy tune you just start tapping your foot to”
Give Right in Two and Invincible a listen to.
Watching people react to music you love is strangely addictive, especially when the reaction feels authentic. I feel the same way about film reactions (Blade Runner being a classic pick).
Tool fans seem to be fanatical (in a good way) about sharing the experience. Almost evangelical lol
A nice boost in views for the channel too, which must be a nice bonus :) A great kickstart to gain some traction with the algorythm. Enjoy the journey !
Is an experience and a beautiful journey.
i'm glad to see you on the tool journey, its well worth it! great reactions!! hope to see a lot more! tool makes you think for sure and they really are masters of their craft.
You ever get into a discussion with someone and work yourself into a pure and absolute split in the way you perceive a thing? That is the Schism.
This song -- like a lot of TOOL songs -- is thoroughly ensconced in metaphors. Schism is actually about a deteriorating or disintegrating relationship and the frustrating and agonizing struggle to make it whole again. Maynard James Keenan is one of the greatest lyricists of all time!
Love your energy! And do more tool 😊
Right in two is the best song for music lovers in my opinion. This song is amazing but it also trips people up the most because of the time signature 😂
Not to mention the meaning behind it.
You can thank your manager for my sub - here for the Tool and the ride into the classics that started it all like BLACK SABBATH and LED ZEPPELIN who has a song "No Quarter" that you should react to and then do Tools cover of that song. Also great that you got headphones for this ride - bands like PINK FLOYD, Led Zeppelin, RUSH and YES are not the same without them. You can hear the production subtle changes and all the background sounds. Pink Floyd is the most headphone oriented band ever...#darksideofthemoon
Just here for the tool reactions , all a mind melt
There's a song by Rage against the machine called Wake Up! - song from ending credits of the Matrix movie. You'll love it.
🌀 out, keep going
Come on Xanny... you know the pieces fit...!! pplleeaaaase keep on spiraling out with Tool and the gang...lol XXx
You listen to my fav band Tool while wearing a Prince shirt who is my fav solo artist, two reasons to give you a sub. 💜
Looking forward to more Tool! #ToolArmy
When you close your eyes, that's how you listen to TOOL.
Yes Tool make songs to try and help you. Use the music and the vocals as a Tool for however u interpret it for yourself.
Tool will keep blowing your mind. They don’t have a bad song out there and they are so different than anyone else out there. They don’t have too many official videos but those will blow your mind too!
Song 2 gave on singing along, welcome to tool.
You must see Tool live! You have to before time is up. They are killing it right now and who knows when they won’t be around anymore
I heard Maynard say that he can't sing a Tool song anymore because of his age? He was sticking with Puscifer and the Perfect Circle due to his voice.
"They trying to wake y'all up."
[RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has now joined the chat]
Tool brings the subscribers 🎉
09:40 yeah, thats Tool in a nutshell lol
Look at this song as a marriage, because it literally ruined my marriage when it first came out because it was exactly what I wanted to say to my wife about our marriage and relationship, ok I ruined the marriage with telling her that but I never would have been able to describe it that way without this song. The look on her face after was priceless and there was no turning back after that!
The song is about apocracy in the church that's what schism means. "Watch the temple topple over"
He explains a bit in his book. To get Tool, you have to know a lil about Karl Jung’s theory of human evolution and collective consciousness. This also explains 46 and 2 (humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, and Jung believes the next step in evolution is an extra pair, but our shadow prevents us from that step). Karl Jung is also the psychologist that created the idea of archetypes. There’s a start for your rabbit hole. Have fun.
You need to listen to more tool beyond what your friend recommended that you listen to. Every new tool song you listen to will become your new favorite!
Would definitely watch a _second_ reaction to the music videos! Just never the first :D
Be sure to mention that you'd already done a proper music reaction and they'll both do great IMO.
🤘🏻🌀
Watching this video after my girlfriend left me, and I’m honestly speechless. This hit so differently
Welcome to the tool army
song is straight bars bro. Dang bro yeah tool goes hard i been listening to them for almost a year i started a year ago basically my cousin got me into them. yeah its frustrating thinking of something really important that you wanted to say and then lose that important thoughts somehow like bruh wtf... well thats because i do that sometimes when im nervous or stressed or both.
Gotta do 46&2 or Aenima. Can’t miss with either one. And as far as depth, these guys are the truth. The Pot is the least of their depth. It fucking rocks and I love it. But the rabbit hole goes deep bro ✌️
Yup dropping 46&2 for y’all tomorrow and aenima will be my next video for them after that
After that, you might be ready for Descending. Feels like one you'll vibe to.
My favorite of their music videos is Parabol/Parabola. I say go ahead and do one if you want to!
Welcome to The Tool Army.
Time for the mind melt again
You should do 'Sober' live, it's an experience.
If you need a music video watch Danny Carey drum cam to their song Pneuma. Sick
Great idea for a first video!! He needs to react live, though. Hopefully, our boy Paul fills him in before it's too late. 😅
Dive in my friend. If you need a recommendation for your first Tool video, try Stinkfist. My favorite
Tool fans never mind long videos..so for the songs that have real videos you could do a double feature...audio first then video.
The videos are like little tiny sci-fi horror movies. Adam Jones the guitarist used to work in the movie biz as a visual artist on movies like terminator 2 and Jurassic Park ECT. He funnels all that creativity into their crazy videos.
The music video for this fucked me up as a kid... Enjoy :D
Try Massive Attack - False Flags. It's not rock, they're Bristol trip-hop, but that one's really potent in terms of speaking to zeitgeist.
You need to listen to Lateralus, it's another of one of their more popular songs and for a good reason!
For other bands that make you think, like Tool, Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Korn. They are all from the same era of music as Tool
Deftones also
TOOL ARMY HERE
Epic! Try One Minute Silence - South Central 🤟
🌀🌀🌀🌀👁🤘🏼
I’m here to follow your Tool journey. Spiral out and keep going brother. A good short song by tool is Hush. Off their first EP. Give it a listen 👍🏼👍🏼
Tool's music videos confuse the hell out of people, but if you look into Adam Jones' background, it will make sense. The music videos do not necessarily have anything to do with the song or lyrics. I see them as separate art pieces on their own. Welcome to the brilliance of Tool!
Do a deep dive into their album art too. You'll be impressed.
Welcome to the Rabbit Hole known as tool 👽 😎
The Pot it about Hypocrisy in general
I hate these ''best band in the world'' comments. But Tool is certainly ringing a lot of bells in my body and in my mind. Enjoy the ride.
Love Tool, also suggest a prog band called Porcupine Tree, the live version of the song Arriving Somewhere But Not Here is great! They sound as good live as studio on this one. Schism is good but has never been a fave for some reason. I like 46&2 better, Right in Two and Vicarious are fire, The Grudge is crazy good, still choose Descending as my fave these days by Tool.
I think it's a relationship song. About a back and fourth breakup.
Don't feel pressured to understand the lyrics on your first listen. Tool can be real deep and are most often open to interpretation, just let it flow over you and the lyrics will tell you what you need to know!!
It’s a song about a relationship
Tool's "Descending" is "woke" as you described. It's my new favorite off their Fear Inoculum album.
You should do calls to Harry manback from tool 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice reaction and great song! If you want to see the video, go ahead and watch it, but TOOL's videos are very particular. I recommend you to see them for your own not for the reactions and especially not the first time you hear the song. The video would surely distract you from the song and instead of listening to the music you would concentrate on trying to understand what is happening in the video.
Now I want some McDonalds
People interpret lyrics differently but I always see Maynard talking about the big picture. I don't think when he says "we" he means him and another person he means us as humanity. Just as he does in Descending. I also think the lyrics are wrong here. He says "Between supposed brothers... Between supposed lovers" Not lovers twice. Great reaction.
All one has to do is hear tool once. Lol.
Yeah I guess this reaction is correct
Everyone hears somethimg different, but I feel that this is about a (romantic?) relationship breaking up...
