As someone who wore this CD out (literally) in the 90's I'm glad to see a young man hearing it for the first time and appreciating it.
I Agree
amen
Tool never makes a bad album. All of them are masterpieces
The drummer is Danny Carey. They call him, "The Octopus."
If you watch the live drum cam version of 'Pneuma,' you will crap your brain out trying to analyze his drum skills.. So just enjoy the Majesty of Danny's drums. ❤️
100%!!!
this
It's a shame he didn't do much drum cam videos, Pneuma is really not the hardest song he plays.
@daver18qc he's said the ending of the grudge is the hardest to perform live himself
@@1c0n81 Yeah he said Grudge for endurance and Invincible or 7empest for hardest. ruclips.net/user/shortswZftHsSgGwM
As we all know….. “whatever TOOL song you are listening to is your favorite TOOL song….. until the next one comes on.”
This is a band with NO bad songs. Spiral Out.
No truth has ever been spoken!
Hahahaha. Listen to ALL of Lateralus before you say that. I'm sure you'll love Faaip De Oiad 😂
"Learn To Swim" to me is a reference of Cali breaking off and descending into the Pacific.....he also said "See You in Arizona Bay".....The cover art on this CD was Lenticular Art and an inside piece of art was a map of the USA where it is complete when looking from one direction and the opposite direction Cali was no longer.
It's also a reference for people to survive, in general, when things get rough
One great big festering neon distraction

Song was inspired by this Bill Hicks comedy bit
Yes, Arizona will be a bay when LA or cali breaks off from that fault line. It’s overdue big time.
@@PoliticallyAffiliated sink or swim. I agree
As mentioned "Learn to Swim" is a reference to an album by Bill Hicks who the band was close friends with. He was an absolute legend btw but that's another story. Hicks dreamed Arizona Bay would be created when LA broke off and fell into the ocean ridding the world of the disgusting cesspool that is LA.
Bill was and is hands down the best to ever fucking do it!
Bill Hicks is my all time favorite comedian. He was way ahead of his time. Gone too soon.
Not a bill hicks original. San Andreas fault has been a risk for a major earthquake for way longer v than 70s
@@bjwertman Wtf are you babbling about? Yes the San Andreas Fault has been around for eons but "Arizona Bay" is a Bill Hicks album you clown. What are you trying to say? Are you just trying to make some pedantic point to try and prove a stranger on the internet wrong? 🙄
"Arizona Bay" was the business name for an entertainment production company that the late comedian Bill Hicks planned to operate once he retired from doing stand-up comedy. Hicks and TOOL's vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, became close friends only a few years prior to Hicks' untimely death from an aggressive cancer. Maynard and Hicks had a shared contempt for LA and LA people. The concept of. "Arizona Bay" comes from a Hicks comedy bit where he rants about wanting California to just slide off into the ocean, thus creating a Pacific ocean coast line/bay for Arizona. Hicks actually opened a number of TOOL concerts prior to his death. The band and Hicks were in the beginning stages of planning ways to creatively work Hicks into parts of TOOL's live show when he fell ill. The entire Aenima album is a dedication to and a memorial of Hicks. There are a clips of Hicks speaking a couple times on the album and the CD art includes a painting of him in a lab coat. Every song on the album has a tie in to Hicks. Some are blatant references to him, others are really obscure and took me 15-20 years to realize, but Hicks is remembered in every track. Think for yourself. Question authority.
They won a Grammy for this one
it was the critics trying to prove they arent the "millions of dumbfounded dipshits" lol
You know he hated that shi 😅
@@kregmaffews only Justin and Danny will show up because they are very nice people haha
You're going to enjoy Tool brother. They have tons of metaphors, and each song means different things for different people at different times of life. They tell you how it is; but offer a much greater perspective even into the spiritual and more humane and vulnerable elements as well. In my opinion, they are second to none when it comes to encapsulating what it means to be a human.
They began mired in the mud and lower depths of primal human experience and continued an upward climb towards higher consciousness, it's a brilliant musical legacy
In my opinion, the greatest musicians and poet on the planet. Favorite band since I saw them in 92, the year I graduated high school.
what's insane is that this song was written 30 years ago when I was in high school and it is still as relevant and accurate today as it was when it came out.
LA is Detroit with palm trees 😉🤷🏼♂️this came out in 96 & to see still have this effect on people especially young people (I’m 52) is heartwarming 🤤
This was the first song I ever heard by Tool. It came on the radio and everyone in my house stopped and listened to it. Got the album the next day and listened to it on repeat for DAYS! Been a fan ever since 🖤🖤🖤🖤
This was 1996 in my freshman year of college listening to this in South Central L.A. made me beyond a outside.😅😅😅
Here we go…
1996 release. LA hasn’t changed. But 1000x worse. This song is perfect for 2023.
Great reaction to your new favorite band. The TOOL Army welcomes you. Keep your weapon out and belly in, pray for rain and tidal waves and Spiral Out my friend.
It’s been said many times, but with Tool, whatever song you’re listening to will be your favorite. (Until you hear the next one)
Got to do Right in two! Also the Danny Cary (Tool Drummer) Vick Firth live video.
My rec. for the next 4: Pneuma (studio 1st, drum cam vid later), Jambi, The Grudge, Ticks & Leeches.
They have tons of amazing compositions - these 4 are still the more accessible bangers. You can go more complex/psychedelic later ....
@@tarnin I guess I am just gambling that the more basic early Tool is not where this young man should be heading. He already has a good feel for Tool given the 4 tracks he has reacted to already. I didn't rec. Rosetta Stoned, Tempest, Reflection or Pushit! .... yet ...... haha ;))
OMG watching this made me smile so big - a young man hearing Tool for the first time is something really special
It makes me so happy to see someone loving the music that I love.
I love watching people experience Tool for the first time. I enjoy your reaction as much as you enjoy the experience.
Btw, I subbed. I love your reactions, man. You really are getting Tool, and you make me feel like I'm hearing these again for the first time, lol. It's so cool to see someone new to Tool become a fan. They are my favorite band, but I see you have some others I like, too so I'll be checking 'em out. I'm definitely up for some old school Metallica. I was in my teens when they came out and I was totally there for it. I still love their first 5 albums and still listen to them.
Danny Carey, their drummer, is one of his kind.
You might enjoy the drumcam video of their song Pneuma. It is mindblowing.
when i was growing up in the 70's and 80's there was a lot of speculation that a huge earthquake would cause Cali to fall off in the ocean leaving you with ocean front property in Arizona
LA, the city of lights. Fitting for the song. Lights out.
You my friend are a wise old soul in a youthful body. Loved your reaction. ♥️🔥
Love this reaction. Love your energy my man. Spiral out!
It's kinda cool that you have a friend guiding you through his picks and suggestion on the music videos. All on point, and since you're enjoying the music I think it was the right call. Loving the ride, can't wait to see your opinion on the vids, lol.
Impressed by you brother. Love how you’re loving Tool. 🤘🏻
Thank you Xanny! ❤
You will soon come to discover that your favorite Tool song is always the one you just listened to! Many Tool fans can and will say this.
The lights going out at the end was Fawesome! Keep spiraling out, we enjoy watching the journey! ✌🏽
Right on, that was a fun ride. Enjoy the videos. Spiral Out Keep Going.
I’ve been a Tool fan since the 90’s. They are gonna stick with you for life brother. Good luck going down this rabbit hole. It’s a fun one. ✌️
🙌🔥 You got it!!! Tool sure educates while you listen to them! 💯
damn good reaction, watched from beginning to end. keep up the good work
Great, great reaction video!
Another fire video my man! 🔥🙌🤘
Your reaction is my favorite on this song! Way to break down the lyrics! I love the bass line and drums on this! ✌️
Wow, that ending IS totally like a fire alarm sound! It’s also like the sound of chaos, earthquakes, and tidal waves while a fire alarm is going off 🔥
Mom=Mother Nature
You're right, "Mom" is a reference to mother nature
There's a fault line that runs through California. It's expected to break away in the future, causing Arizona to have a bay.
Learn to swim is just a metaphor for California falling into the sea in a massive earthquake, but it's also a larger metaphor for learning to deal with just how f'd modern life is, as it will all come crashing down, sooner than later...listen to "Flood" from Undertow, that previous album begins this train of thought; "I was wrong...this changes, everything"
Lol 44 seconds in and BAM! the Danny Carey effect hits hard. So glad you went down this Tool path man. Spiral Out! #ToolArmy
Great 👍 reaction Xanny 🔥🤘💀
Mom's coming round" I figure mother nature to flush it all away
Loved every song on this album ❤️ 😊
Guy had me at "whoever the drummer is". lol You will soon come to know who that drummer is no doubt. It's only a matter of time.
Eres un crack. De verdad. Me alegro que te guste
FYI, that "Schism" video is one of their wilder ones, if I may recommend "Sober" to do first, maybe even a reaction to it.....also "Ænima" is my favorite song EVER, so thx for doing it
Lovin' the Tool reactions man, keep'em coming!!
You are correct, "Mom" is referring to Mother Earth/Mother Nature😎😎
You still haven't listened to "Lateralus" so you might not understand this, but I'll still sign off with.....
Spiral out!!🌀🌀🌀
Maynard the singer is from Michigan. He moved there from Ohio when he was 11.
The whole album is great! I love Tool!
i think you would enjoy Vicarious, keep up the great reactions!! looking forward to more!
I am seeing TOOL live in New Hampshire next month for the 6th time! It's a fantastic show!
Let’s be honest, black folks enjoying TOOL songs for the first time never disappoints! TOOL is so good and it’s such a joy to see someone with a different musical background get so into it.
Maynard doesn’t pull any punches on this one!
TOOL is heavily influenced by the psychologist Carl Jung. Check him out if you aren’t familiar. He’s a deep one.
Spiral out, Dude!
Hell yeah. Such a track
You get it!!!!
Danny is the best drummer in the world❤
I'm from Michigan too, pontiac. I just subscribed. I live in Denver now though.
Me encanta tu reacción. I like you reaccion.❤😊. Gracias
This song is Enema not ah nee ma. They use the Greek AE so it might confuse, but the album is Aenima. This song Aenema. Happy listening.
I'm going to Tool in 2 days and came across your channel while I'm gearing up. Your reactions are awesome. Danny Carey is a rock drumming legend before his time. Maynard's lyrics are deep, Justin creates amazing bass beats and gosh darnit Adam is on point. F*ck all those insincere actresses
Let's goooo!!!
Maynard takes no prisoners lyrically. Aims at the throat and never misses
Tool one of my Favorites❤
I love ur padzion!
Tool lyrics are often deep and introspective but if you focus on just the lyrics you're missing out on so much more. Need all four components. Maynard's voice is a self-described fourth instrument. Take it ALL in. Spiral out, dude.
The lights going out was perfect.
That was an interesting effect with the timing of the lights going out.
Vicarious will be good for ya next
And there ya go.
That light went out at the perfect moment!
Danny Carey is the drummer. Since Neil from rush passed, Danny Carey is now the dopest drummer alive. 😊
I gotta say…
I actually loved the Outro filmed like that- very intimate, very honest feeling
Worried about the earbuds at the beginning of your journey. Glad to see you got some proper cans!
This song is named after the procedure of flushing shit from the body. They're basically saying that Mother Earth is going to perform an Aenema by removing the unwanted shit that is L.A.
Maynard tells you to read between the lines in the song, right after telling you not to dismiss him as a pessimist.
It's about LA being an utter cesspool, but that it could be fixed if people cared less about appearances, possessions, money, power etc. It's basically hoping to smack the stupid out of enough people to make that change and heavily erroneous focus on all the superficial bullshit that's the center of so many people's lives.
Can't edit. I meant to say erroneously focusing on all the 'silly shit, stupid shit.', instead of the things that *actually* matter.
Learn to swim is referring to "mother nature/earth" cleansing California by causing an earthquake and having California break off mainland U.S. and slide into the Pacific. learn to swim is for all the residents of California so they'll possibly be able to survive the cataclysmic event by possibly swimming to shore. the song was written 30 years ago and is still relevant today...amazing
Good idea 😊
Thts Awesome😊🎉
The drummer is Dany Carey and he's a beast
Can't wait for more Tool
Mother Nature….. LA sinks and Arizona becomes the coast ! Love your reaction Bro.
🌀🌀🌀🌀👁🌀🌀🌀
"You learn something new everything you listen to them. Every time. " You're a smart kid! ❤ I can't wait to show this reaction to my 20 year old son, who has yet to realize the gift of Tool.
What makes Tool different is the drummer gets to play what he wants.... Danny does not keep time like all other bands. Time is kept by the bass player. You can tell when the drums drop and come back in on an off beat.
appreciate that man as a drummer always wanted to do my own thing in the in-between lol
Danny's the best at that follow the lead guitar!!
Learn to swim is a direct refernce to Arizona Bay which is a reference to the late great comedian Bill Hicks who used to talk about Los Angeles being swallowed up by an earthquake & disappearing under the ocean to create Arizona Bay. Maynard is hoping for the same thing & is saying learn to swim because everyone in LA will need to learn to swim.
The light going out at the end was fitting.
im loving how there is a resurgence of interest 30 years later
TOOL ARMY!
Spiral out, Keep going on your tool journey!
Learn to swim is in reference to his hope that california will fall into the ocean, which is why 'Arizona Bay' is created
Stopping Tool songs before they are finished is against the Geneva Convention.
Yeah Mom = Mother Earth / Mother Nature.
I mean I don't think Tool ever come out and say what their lyrics mean but that one really has only one way to take it.
When this album came out I Had my cd player glued for a year so no one could change cd....
Crazy,insnt it?😂❤love it Bro ❤
Welcome to the 90s bro!
Adam Jones the guitarist. He does special effects in Hollywood movie aswell he did the clay animation for there videos..I have 3 favorite bands... Tool ,A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer 😅
Lights going out at the end was pretty cool...made for some great lighting
wish there was a heart reaction for this one! a enema
Michigan represent! I'm in metro Detroit
