From Songfacts: This song has a very intriguing time signature, which frequently changes throughout the song. The verses can be counted as 12/8 (12 eighth-note beats to a measure) but it is actually split up into recurring measures of 5/8 (5 eighth-note beats to a measure) and 7/8 (7 eighth-note beats to a measure). In this way, the standard 12/8 time signature is split into two parts, a "Schism," thus the theme of the music matches the theme that the lyrics are based on. It's also interesting to note that for the chorus, the time signature shifts and is "reunited" back into standard 12/8.
Tool has always been and is still a HUGE love for me. The lyrics are always very thought provoking, and the music demands your attention. In a weird way, they're to us now like Pink Floyd was in the 70's and 80's (or at least it seems that way to me lol). I used to alternate between this song and Slipknot's "Psychosocial" for my ringtone, and you would not believe the number of people who react when it goes off.
Aenima is my personal favorite. Go a album before you heard one song "Stinkfist" do the song Aenima, Pushit, Hooker with a Penis (not what you may think) Off Undertow..."Crawl Away" Intolerance, Swamp Song. I say this because you have been playing middle to older Tool alot. Try earlier stuff, cant go wrong. Happy 4th
I sat by my stereo like a gargoyle when this song hit the radio waves in the hope that I could catch a perfect recording (pre internet era for you young folk 😉). Totally fell in love with this album. Every track.
5:10 “this is video 10 or 11” Most reactors can’t listen to over three from the same artist. You have not only gone into the double digits, but you recognize why they are all different songs. You said, basically, I haven’t begun to touch the surface. You’re intuition serves you right. Thanks for the reaction @Emp
This album on a REAL LOUD quality system is AWESOME and RAD, but this song has such a powerful bass it's VERY VERY POWERFUL and AWESOME!!!!! AND RAD!!!!!!!!
It’s never too late to discover Tool.
