The opening with the "tabla" sound was really what did it for me. Made the song that much more special and mysterious, and really highlighted how much Danny's drumming contributes to Tool's atmosphere. Thanks for this. It was highly enjoyable!
Amazing, creative and fun. After reading all the "Lars memes" posted on so many posts, it's refreshing to see someone approach him with respect and still have fun with it.
I really didn’t want to spend a lot of time bashing Lars. I’ve already done way too much of that (& yes, he often deserves it). I thought it’d would be more fun to imagine something new, so here we are
the groove in one is more tribal and fits surprisingly well given the tone of the original. when it enters the last half of the song, it becomes more "theatrical," emphasizing that feeling of grit and war. This was a very interesting take; well done!
Maybe a war fought in ancient time with clunky suits of armor and horse drawn carriages - surely not tanks trampling the earth or fighter jets crushing the speed of sound...
Lars was once cutting edge and helped define a genre. He deserves some credit. But other drummers liked what he was doing and took it to the next level, and Lars was unable to keep up. He's still a good drummer and the other things he does for Metallica are underrated.
Lars could’ve been one of the greatest if he had kept pushing himself. I think that’s why people give him so much slack: the lack of real effort to grow for 20 years shows. Ppl don’t like that.
The algorithm has done the right thing today! Love how chill your general vibe is, and the interpretations here are fire. I've not unpacked my kit since we moved house a few months ago (laaaaazy) but this has inspired me to get it done. Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!
Great work on the audio mix, you can follow along to the song as you remember it, and truly appreciate your interpretation. The “Carey-ism’s” in this are fire! Made me smile at least. Love what you are doing. Keep going!
I cant believe this guy only has as many subs as he does. This content is definitely on par with, if not better than some of the more popular drum channels.
As a huge fan of Danny and a former signed drummer (Atomship) I absolutely had a blast watching and immersing myself in your interpretation. Only Danny could've represented any better. Awesomeness man! 💙

That’s the beautiful thing about music; it’s art. And there is no right or wrong way to interpret it. You did a phenomenal job. Music is life and life is music…play it loud.
I always support smaller channel musicians with a good heart. God knows I poured my heart soul money and 30 years of my life into music that amounted to absolutely 0 love so wholeheartedly, I hope your channel blows up my friend.
The problem is drummers are fun to watch, but they have zero ability to write any music. How hard is it to plam mute some power chords? They are entirely dependent on guitar players. This is why you never see drummer buskers. Their technical talk is great to the untrained ear, but it is very boring to other musicians. That's because, if you play in band situations that play originals, most drummers don't seem to vary much in skill. Most cannot create anything more than the general beat. All that technical ability seems to disappear and you get a basic 4:4 beat. I've never seen a drummer create a 5:4 beat over an original riff, most struggle to remember the choices they made in a 4:4 beat and fall back to the general beat of the guitars...
I haven’t listened to one in so long but this drum version really makes it so much more interesting, enjoyable, and even somewhat emotional. I love it man, keep doing what you’re doing.
You're amazingly talented, skilled, quite eclectic, and mind-boggling creative. I am quite impressed and grateful you're willing to take risks. Bravo 👏
You do a great job representing Danny's playing. 1:18 "Confusingly hateful" is too often an accurate description of human nature. I enjoyed your take on this and its exciting that Adam Jones watched your content!
First off, Wow! This is great! Don't sell yourself short, bro. You are a killer drummer. Very impressive. However if I could compare it to another drummer, it actually kinda sounds like Tim "Herb" Alexander from Primus. Very well done, sir. I love it.
WOW... refreshing and cool !!! I also really like the fact that it wasn't perfect... that made it all the better. BTW, I loved all the fills and your cymbal work !!!
This channel os going to skyrocket with content like this. Next time, I suggest you put the performance first and leave the comments for the end. It will be your own specific format, but without losing the curious clicks who will click out of the video if it starts with you talking. Thats a 20% growth in views right there.
That was incredible! I had to listen to it twice, the first time around I expect to hear the original drums but the second time I loved it. Very unique grove towards the end. I didn't know whether to headbang or dance...Thank you! Look forward to your content.
That’s a Korg Kaossilator in the very beginning playing a helicopter synth. I’m also using a Kord Wavedrum & a Roland SPDSX-Pro. LMK if you’d like a full vid about those things (& my other electronics)
I personally think it would have been better to leave one alone until it got to where the drums normally kick in the beginning solo with the drums sounded weird to me but it still sounds awesome!
But that’s not how Danny would’ve done it, so it wouldn’t have been as true of a rendition as this one is. Very well done. Sounds really weird, but when you’ve heard a song one way (no pun intended) for so long, something different always sounds weird. Very impressive!
Loved the pad work at the beginning! Haven’t listened to “One” in years, but what you played meshed so well. Danny Carey would be pleased with this take (maybe not Lars… :))! Bravo!!
Your drumming is solid AF 👍 But I will be honest, I do not think this is how Danny would approach this music. And I think as far as fitting with the music, it was way to busy in the first half to the point of not really going with the song. I think you should have made the second act of the song the busier section which here wasn't very busy at all from a variation standpoint.
Say what you will but less is more for me, Metallica is not the kinda of band that needs this style of drummer. Lars plays solid simple beats that give the songs their heavy feel. This is just doing to much and its not Metallica. I love Danny Carey and TOOL but this sounds like shit sorry.
@@IdekatoI’m fine with your entire comment except for the “it sounds like shit”. If you wouldn’t say it to my face that way (which I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t), why come that way online? Just a thought. Thanks for your feedback regardless.

Thanks for this. It was highly enjoyable!
I hated it, it was overpowering the other instruments, and it seemed a bit out of tune with the song
thats mirudangam, another south indian instrument similar to tabla,
took the essence out of that intro
The intro was trash, if honesty is still allowed.
I like these videos, they make me appreciate Lars when he was on top of his game.

Lars didn't have to keep up ( well in terms of money and fame ,James and kirk did that with their guitars )
