A lot of these older songs were uploaded to RUclips in 2009-2011, once there was a deal struck between the record companies and RUclips. So don't let the upload date fool you. This is 32 years old. Which is awesome, but sad that the song is still relevant today.
It is, but it speaks to the fact that things really don't change much.
Our man here didn't even flinch at "12 years old". Can you think of song that was 30 years old in 1991, a song from 1961, that wasn't dated for better or worse?
This song could be released yesterday and still work.
Edit: Adding to that, if nobody ever heard of RATM and they came out today with this sound they would STILL shake of the world of rock and hip hop just like they did then.
This song came out in 1991. Still relevant today.
I remember listening to this as a teen, still loving it today.
The lyrics will never get old.
I was gonna say-the video may have come out 20 years ago, but this song is much, MUCH, older.
Sadly
It's always a good idea to have the lyrics pulled up when you listen to Rage. This song is the OG protest against police brutality and corruption, came out at the time of the LA riots and the murder of Rodney King. "Those who died, are justified, for wearing the badge, they are the chosen whites" Some of those who work forces, are the same that burn crosses, referencing the fact that many senior police members were also members of the Klan back in the day
Rodney king wasn't murdered he just got the living shit kicked out of him by cops on video, one of the first times that ever happened, the captured on video part i mean, and the cops walked which started the LA riots.
“back in the day”
One correction. King wasn’t murdered, but was victim of excessive force (beating) by LA police.
@@theresamnsota3925 Aye but beat within an inch of dying. A kid on a Big Wheel could have cuffed him 1/2 thru his beating.
And still are to this day.
Very very proud boys
“Some of those who work forces, are the same that burn crosses”-Abraham Lincoln
This was made in like 92 bro lol. The singer got bars too in other songs
Welcome to Rage, my dude. I saw them in the summer of 92 when I graduated high school…been a huge fan ever since. Try pulling up the lyrics with their songs, because all of their music has a lot of meaning and protest vibes. So happy I watched this video, thank you!
Rage is good rabbit hole to go down. Very political with lyrics that are unfortunately still as relevant today as they were back in 92.
This song is about police brutality in the aftermath of the Rodney King riots.
Their entire first album is fire.
"some of those who work forces, are the same who burn crosses" says it all right there. Sometimes during their live shows they will switch up from "those who work forces" and "those who swear office". In a very early interview Tom mentioned that they left the "Killing in the Name of" open-ended because people with power will always justify their acts against humanity. Facts.
I just subbed for more Rage! Their music is fire, but the lyrics are even better. I couldn’t tell if you had them up on your screen, but make sure you always have them up for their reactions.
Tom Morello is a genius on guitar, and Zack basically raps over rock music. Anytime you wonder “what’s that sound?” It’s Tom on the guitar.
Every song is a hit, you can’t go wrong with whatever song you choose next. Take the Power Back, Testify, Down Rodeo, Guerilla Radio, Fistful of Steel, all fucking amazing.
You need lyrics. It's "Burn Crosses". Rage is not just kick-ass music. Without the lyrics you can't understand how important they were to social justice.
It's weird watching people on a first listen automatically mentally substitute less hardcore lyrics than what Zach is really saying. It's like our brains are trained not to hear it at first.
You should always do lyric videos with rage. It's packed with truth.
I’m not promoting anything, but if you burn one and sit back and just listen. It’s absolutely mind blowing bro!!! It’s the music ability of each one of those guys. MASTERS of the instruments.
Tom Morello is one of the Baddest Guitarists on the Planet. Just in case you didnt know Rage is the biggest part of the Super Group Audioslave, along with the late great Chris Cornell!
And you know what? The singer from Tool features in another song of Rage..." Know your enemy"
Good musicians feeding of of eachother!! Good reaction!!
or Deftones song "Passenger"
I wish this song was only 12 years old. It would’ve been ‘the’ song of the decade’
"Ok... Rage Against the Machine... I'M READY!"
(me with a Joker smile) "He ain't ready..."
Welcome to the Rage rabbit hole! They don't miss!❤
If this song doesn't make you want to burn shit down I don't understand you.
Listen to Down Rodeo.
You slept on the lyrics bro. Always, always, always, always choose lyrics videos for Rage Against the Machine. People who tell you to listen to RATM aren't telling you to listen to the beat or the instruments, even though they're tight. They're telling you to experience the rage.. the militant messaging. Zack spits truth, more than most will ever learn in school.
This song written in 1991 is about police brutality. "Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses. You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites."
You should really listen to:
Down Rodeo
Take the Power Back
Wake Up
Know Your Enemy (Maynard from Tool collaboration)
Testify
Again, with the lyrics. With the lyrics. And again, with the lyrics.
Keep going! Bulls On Parade, Bullet in the Head, Wake Up, Bombtrack, Vietnow... good luck finding a bad one! All certified BOPS.
Lyrics yo ✊🏾
You were not born when this came out, bro. 1991-92
Saw them in Frankfurt, Mannheim and Amsterdam.
Great reaction video! React to their other songs like Down Rodeo (that first bar is 😮), Bulls on Parade, Freedom - make sure you have the lyrics on hand
it came out in 1992, dude. i was in high school when this dropped. I saw Wutang open for them in 97'.
Had to come here to say "Burn crosses", not Bear. Some of those good ol' Boys in Blue got themselves some white robes with hoods to match, you get me?
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burnt crosses. Song is alot older than that.
Rage is something else. Always nice when someone else finds them. Now, please, go and find yourself a dust rag and take care of that entertainment center. Be sure to get a can of compressed air and make sure the innards of those devices are dust free. That's how components overheat and stop working.
Every time a person younger than me "checks to see when a song came out" by looking at the video upload date, I boomer laugh out loud.
Tool and RATM are like actually friend in real life. Look into their history together
It's crazy.
He said A LOT n that first repeated bar. Always have lyrics in front of you when listening a rage song first time.
"What the billboards say, come and play forget about the movement." When I was a young man back in the 90's grunge was a thing. It was anti corporations, anti greed and that's why we all wore jeans and flannels. It was a GIANT middle finger to all the fancy things in life. It seems the corporations have gained control again, that is why more amd more people are interested with "what you are wearing" "what you are driving." You all have to stop reading the billboards and keep the movement alive.
THIS... is your intro to Rage? maaaan... lucky you! Still here for the Tool, but this is gonna be good --- haven't watched yet. * tucks in *
System of a Down is another band you might enjoy. They have the same vibe as a mix of Rage and Tool. Plus their own style.
Don't know how I missed your channel with this... Zach is a military poet for the masses.. I'm a Rager since 91.. Videos are always good but with rage and Zach you're gonna need the lyrics.. Every song is a banger full of bars, a History lesson I'm every song .. This song was after the Rodney King beating, sparking the arrest acquittal of the cops, and helped to expose the corrupt hiring practices of the LAPD..
The lyrics went over tour head. Song written in response to the beating of Rodney King.
It always amaze me when someone (and even more someone who is into music) in the states says he has never heard songs like this. I guess it shows how closed and separated society is there.
Love the rage and tool reactions! Keep em coming
Do System of a Down's Chop Suey next! If you liked this I think you'll like it.
Oh cross dominance! I never heard that term but I think I have that. I write and eat and draw with my left hand but I do everything else with my right hand. Right-handed throwing, hitting, playing guitar. I don't know maybe I'm right armed but left-handed.
Jimi Hendrix, first song,,, Manic depression, or Are you experienced, the list goes on, pick any one, flip a coin, you can’t lose
I been rocking Rage since it came out when I was 11 years old until today!!
They're just about all that good
That’s a cool guitar. RUclips has videos on how to restring and tune guitars if you are interested
Its only a few lines, but its all about how he is saying them. Check how he moves the emphasis each repetition.
some of those that wear forces are the same that bear crosses LMFAO
bro. not "bear crosses".... "BURN CROSSES". the music is secondary to the message. the singer was telling security to fkoff. the fan stagediving was fine with him
Even the subtitle videos actually has the lyrics wrong it's some of those that were enforcers are the same that burn crosses meaning enforcers of the law
someone told it's actually over 30 years old right?
He’s talking about police brutality against the black men
Since you’re checking out Tool, I suggest you check out the singer's other band, A Perfect Circle. Their song “Counting Bodies Like Sheep” is amazing.
Just about all of their songs r still relevant today, sadly. Bulls øn parade is one u should check out next!
Every time I hear RATM it reminds me of DX 😂
Subbed on the condition you listen to either ‘King Park’ by La Dispute (poetry, political, heavy, nonfiction) or ‘Waiting Room’ by Fugazi (punk anthem) and ] because the RATM are reactions are dope
Tool and Rage are the best
You will actually get better sound if you plugged that dusty receiver behind you into your computer via optical cable then headphones into the receiver. Trust me.
All rage videos should be lyric videos...otherwise you miss the biggest part of what Zack brings...lyricism
This song is as true now as ever
Killing in the name of
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
Next check out RATM - Down Rodeo!!!

and if you do Jimi Hendrix please do Machine Gun, from his last album and in my opinion, easily the most emotional, political and groovy song he wrote. This song is about the Vietnam war and is meant to make you feel like war, the drums representing withering machine gun fire and the ending sounding like the whistling of mortars and bombs.

de la Rocha later moved the lyrics to "Some of those that hold office/Are the same that burn crosses", to reflect the fact that white-supremacist infiltration is a huge problem in politics generally, and not just in police forces and the military.
Nope more like 30 years ago dude!! Police brutality and racism, same issues sadly still alive in the 2020s.
Dude. Gotta check out Denzel Curry's cover of this band. Bulls on Parade.
Whaaaa he did a cover to a rage song! That’s crazyyyy
Better than the original IMO. Denzel loses his mind
#1991
just listen stop stopping
Their 1993 PinkPop festival performance is wwayyyy better than this studio version. 👍😊
Yo, why the stinkfist video playing in the background?
It’s random lol I normally showcase the artist music I’m reacting to in the background of my videos and sometimes random videos play afterwards 😂
X
Can't believe you didn't pick up on what they are saying. There aren't a lot of lyrics....but they are saying so much
Man, you are going to lose it on Down Rodeo! That`s ro-day-o. As in Rodeo Drive. Just do it. Disappointment is not on the menu!
Disregard my last comment. Just saw that you`ve already done it.
