Watching this video many times, I came to the conclusion that maybe it would be better to remove the Alternator for getting better access to the Thermostat.
It is very hard to reach those 2 bolts under the Alternator. I cannot even imagine how was it possible to make such a great video with absolutely clear picture of the working area.
Well, as I decided to replace Water Pump too, I have no chance but remove the Alternator.
But even just to change the Thermostat, I think it will be easier.
Mention this, I still have to admit that Johny's Weekends video of replacing the Thermostat is absolutely brilliant and the quality of camera can compete with Hollywood!!!

Excellently shot video. love the camera quality. just one tip here on installing the thermostat. usually the little valve hole i believe has to face upwards. on the oem it was facing upwards when you removed it. but the aftermarket one you installed, i couldn't see if it had a pin hole valve hole. i know i have installed a few thermostats and some don't come with that hole, which is weird. also after starting the vehicle, turn on your heater to full blast to get coolant into heater core and run vehicle until it gets to operating temperature. Then your fan must come on. some times this requires you to test drive it for a little. if fan comes on, then you more than likely got all the air our of the cooling system. let vehicle cool down for several hours until completely cool or until next day. check your reservoir and add coolant to max line. you more than likely will need to add coolant once system completely gets all air out of lines and radiator. all in all this is probably one of the best videos i have seen online so far. give this man a thumbs up and subscribe
Thanks for this! Recently I had my radiator leak and made the mistake of adding sealant to the system. Now my fan won't fully run. I'm replacing the thermostat and radiator with a full flush. Hopefully this will work 🤞

You use ?
@jonjon9237 I use super clean diluted, spray with a pump sprayer generously.
The hose off with medium pressure, nothing hard and definitely not a pressure washer.
I then spray with wd-40 and let soak then get a blower and blow off everything with air.
Wd-40 is a water displacement agent and lubricator. How ever you will get a small smell for a hour or less from burn off if any makes it on the exhaust.
I do it about twice a year or so. Maybe every 8 months or so.
I just removed the hose clamp from the thermostat housing, unplugged the alternator plug and removed the 2 10mm nuts and pulled the thermostats out within 5 minutes.

Thank you so much. My car has been overheating but there’s no leaks, loss of coolant or ripped hoses. I believe it’s just the thermostat getting stuck because it doesn’t always overheat and the heater blows cold air when it does. It’s a 2014 Corolla with 230k miles
“I would replace it and see if problem still happens. Maybe check to see if coolant is low. Low coolant can cause same problems if to low.
@@johnnysweekends coolant is still the same level. Hasn’t dropped at all and no white smoke coming from the exhaust that can indicate a blown head gasket or loss of performance

You gotta replace that plastic pipe near the battery lol..i did mine after 8years of usage last week. Got myself an aluminium version..just gotta find a metal themostat housing..think the same year yaris would do🤔. love my 3zrfe with cvt..200k sofar..btw that new thermo looks nice with dual springs
I did replace it. The plastic was in stock and cheap. Figure it will be good for another 12 lol. Well hope so 👍🏼
On the OEM thermostat there is a Safe Valve ,,,that little loose pin that goes UP when you install the thermostat in place,,you did not add one on the one you installed ?

The aftermarket thermostat has that built in. Only the oem has the giggle pin for the air release. People have used both and no issues but need to make sure to bleed the system to get as much air as you can out.

Used a coolant cleaner about a week ago. Now I’m losing coolant into the reservoir, not returning to the radiator. No leaks. Pressure test is steady. Bubbles constantly when bleeding air > 30 minutes. Radiator cap new. Water pump new. I’ve narrowed it down to:
1) thermostat
2). Radiator / reservoir tube
3). Head gasket
Any thoughts? Thank you!
Head gasket. Thermostat will make it over heat real quick and should see needle go up and down a lot.
Although my radiator was bad and finally blew after replacing thermostat and coolant and that plastic mid pipe.
So radiator could be failing.

My daughter's 2009 Corolla doesn't have any coolant issue, but since the vehicle is 16 yrs. old with 150 000 miles on speedometer, I am planning the preventative maintenance:
replace medium hose connector (Dorman's aluminum hose connector) and GATES' lower and upper coolant pipes).
I followed your recommendation and purchased AISIN THT-019 thermostat from Amazon and OEM gasket from Toyota dealership.
As Aisin is Japanese company and makes a lot of parts for Toyota and Lexus, I assumed it is OEM product, but found out in comments on your page that it is not like original, and it has to be positioned different way. It is not clear for me which way is the correct.
Could you give me a hint in this matter, and would you still recommend making this replacement if so far there is no issues with any leaks.
My daughter is not living with me and I just don't want her one day to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.
I will appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance.
The newer thermostat needs the little hole more towards the top or 12 o’clock. For air when bleeding the system but you can still do it if the hole isn’t perfectly straight up.
@@johnnysweekends I don't have to warry anymore regarding the absence of little hole for air bleeding on the AISIN THT-019 thermostat. Today I received my order, and it looks exactly like the original one on the picture in your video
I hope I haven’t messed mines up the radiator line that connects to the Mid pipe melted smoke went everywhere… the day before my temperature gauge was moving up and down and then went cold I didn’t know it was hot until I seen smoke and it stopped but started back up

Got a new thermostat inlet for my 2013 Corolla along with the thermostat and gasket installed it seems to have a slow leak after a few miles it's irritating keep on trying to fix the issue no luck
Interesting did the vehicle get real hot? Did it warp anything?

@@johnnysweekends Would it be wise to use a bit of rtv sealant if the housing is leaking? I scored the portion where the waterpump goes back on for my yaris because the fit was extremely tight. Decided to use some permatex ultra black high temp gasket maker since the gaskets are made of metal and could start leaking.
If the housing is bad I would replace it. It’s cheap and prevents a second job.
Now sure it may hold for a while but after it gets hot and cold several times it will leak. I assume you mean the plastic part you take off and not the engine block side

The original thermostat has 3 different models (A B C), how to know which one buy without disassemble the old one?
I know the mechanic said I needed the 180f not the 170f. Even then. I never found the difference. Worked in a decent amount of engines and not sure why the ABC
@@iftorres which did u get ? Bc Lowe Toyota told me the same thing
@@Trip3krazy The “B” but any of them are almost the same, the difference is just the position of the small vent hole, but because the circular shape you can put the hole in the same position as the original one, so the existence of 3 models (ABC) for me has no sense, the length of the bottom to top are the same, te diameter are the same, working temperature also te same.
