Do you need a gasket for the housing that you scraped with a knife? And do you need gasket sealer?

Thank you so much for making this video! I appreciate how thorough you are, by telling us the types of tools that you use, the proper way to use them and the things to watch out for, like breaking the aluminum bolts on the thermostat housing. I feel pretty comfortable now that I can do this job on my own with great results!

Hi Peter, i watched your previous video how to see if the thermostat was broken, and now this video how to replace it. Both of the videos were very helpful, and I especially like your calm and careful explanations, so that even I can understand what is going on! Thank you!

excelent video on how to attack this job. Well done my friend! I have the exact same engine and this video shows really well what to expect including each step's detail (ie the aluminium bolts). What would be very interesting Peter is the explain how the entire heating/cooling system works. what also would really help is to explain how to eliminate the problem so that the thermostat ends as being the issue: my guess is that measuring temperature difference between the engine head and the radiator could be very well and simple indicator that the thermostat is gone. Note that is weird that the temp gage on the panel indicates normal temp and sudenly it takes of when the water temp becomes very very high.

Hi Peter,Thank you for posting all these videos! Forgive me if you covered these questions but my computer has no volume at the moment. What was the torque on the housing nuts? There is no other gasket that seals other than the one on the thermostat itself? What sensor is connected to the housing? Is that the coolant temp sensor or something else? Thanks again!!

Thanks to my favorite Corolla mechanic. I am thinking to replace because I keep getting error P0128. Temp never seems out of range, but it does take long to warm up. If I make sure and really warm it up fully, CEL doesn't come on. I figure it's thermostat or sensor. What do you think? I appreciate seeing how easily I can do either, even as a level three (middle finger) job..:)

Hi Peter. I replaced temp valve and both temp sensor and fan switch and engine is getting very warm or hot while temp gauge on dash is normal half way. Any suggestions? What should the temp of the ie coolant hose and engine valve cover be when testing the temp with ie a laser temp meter? What are the typical temp of the essential engine parts be?

Hi, thanks for the guide, appreciated it very much.
Just wish to point out the bolts you refer to at 9.58 -10.00 are nuts and they certainly aren't aluminium, they are metallic.
You can check this by using a magnet, the nuts are attracted to it.
Only item of concern would be the studs the nuts screw onto, so do not cross thread or over tighten as once damaged they would be a pain to replace.
    Thanks again.
