I took the alternator away, the seat for the thermostat needed scraping. The pentafrost A1 fluid is 30$ too They are phasing it out because it has 1 extra organic ingredient The H in HOAT, making it incomparable with all the other Red OAT . Beck Arnley, Peak, all the Toyota Lexis long life OAT stuff , is not recommended to mix the two. Organic Acid
I did this for my XRS in November, it had the same symptoms. It was a pain but glad I did it. I wish I used your method, much more simpler and quicker.
One mechanics tip when you don’t have a magnetic socket is to take a small piece of scrap paper and wedge the nut into the socket using that scrap piece of paper as the wedge to hold a socket in place. Works most of the time, and helps keep your language such that your mother would be proud.
@@Wiccang also a good one. Years ago serious craftsman made a small insert that fit into any socket weather was quarter inch three eights inch or half inch and that insert was magnetic. I lost that little gizmo in my toolbox was stolen years ago. I should see if they still make something like that

The heads are warped in cylinder three is reporting a misfire and is getting a lot of fluid in it and at the same time the thermostat doesn't open up and that's what caused the problem originally. we're just going to bypass it and run this car till it doesn't run anymore. which is going to be very soon. it just have to make a few junkyard trips and its replacement van will be on the road
Good video. For your information the damaged "Kuzeh" thermostat seems to be OEM. This what Toyota Retailer in France sold me. Only on mine, the Toyota logo was added.
good video ...but you missed to keep the air bleed pin vent toward top side. You placed it downward (seen between fingers at lower side at 13:31) Proper position is visible at 9:07 , before removal .
Anika Molino is right. I also read that " It is a reasonable theory to why the jiggle valve needs to be in a certain position". Also, there are several theories about the right position of the jiggle which has to do with the air trapped inside and this jiggle in that small hole allow that air to escape when water is boiling and reaching even 200 degrees! Some others are experimenting placing the jiggle area at other positions just to experiment with it. The state you found your old thermostat is telling you something! And then, when you took off the old one the jiggle it was at 12 position. You installed the new one at 6:30position. Please, let us know how your car is doing. Thank you! Dec 2020
I gotta do this real soon. Got a new OEM tstat, radiator, water pump, upper and lower hoses. Had my fan off a couple months ago to do the starter and noticed some dried coolant in two corners. Had the tstat replaced about 2.5 years ago at a shop (I was working on the road). I knew whatver aftermarket crap tstat they used wouldn’t last. Also…you’re not supposed to use the red straight. Did you dilute with diatilled and just forget to film it? And those air bleeder funnels work fantastic.

Just did this with an 07 corolla and the clearance is tricky. I had to take the bottom stud out, there wasn't clearance to fit the housing or the nut onto it. The swivel and the comment below about the paper were key. There's very little clearance to get threads started.
Next time drain the rad first and place the jigger in the 12 o’clock position its supposed to be on top to allow air n pressure to equalize when refilling the system.
In my 2007 corolla, I didn't have space to get a 1/4" swivel and socket all the way onto the nut. I may have had more trouble because the long bolt the nut goes onto goes all the way to the back of the socket, making it harder to get a short socket all the way down over it. I had to take the alternator out. It doesn't look like there is a difference in space between this 06 and mine, so you should be ready to take the alternator out. If you still want to try with the swivel, grease the joints on it first and maybe try a longer socket.
My 03 Toyota Echo isn't passing smog because its saying "CATALYST MONITOR NOT READY" I've already drove the car a few hundred miles and no luck. I was recommend to try this and replace the thermostat would it be possible this actually might help? Car is at 220,000 Miles. Thanks

There's a drain plug on the back of the engine/block, you can get to it from the top on the driver's side. It looks exactly like an out door door faucet, it's a 10mm bolt, easy to get to.
Anyone watching this video: he did a good job EXCEPT he didn't make sure the pin on the thermostat was in the TOP position, 12 o'clock! This was a big mistake!
AllFromA_Phone not really. Honestly I didn't. Price much symptoms at all. Had a shop replace it and all seems well. Just didn't have time to do the work myself.
6:00 mark. I TRIED that 1/4" swivel 10mm setup and couldn't get the socket on well enough to grab the nut! Had to go buy a Serpentine Tensioner tool and remove the alt. And trust me, I'm not a "give up" type of guy! I even swung the rad out of the way for better access to it and still couldn't get that socket on!!!
Hate them engineers, why do they have to put the thermostat in such a pain in the neck to reach area??? I have to do this and I am not exited about it!
I'm about to do this...had to buy the gasket separate for like $5 plus $5 shipping from Autozone, and that was the cheapest I could find. Ridiculous! F*ing rubber ring cost that much...
Lol the one that you took off has the old school Toyota logo on it it's a TRD 1 it's meant to run at 170゚ keeps your car running just a little bit color but your gasket was messed up you can buy them from monkey wrench racing for about $35 I'm running one and my celica GTS

I've done the same thing one month ago to my 2003 matrix xrs! Im also having an issue with the idle, it idles at 2000rpm and sometimes more, I replaced the IAC but there is some shaft play in the butterfly, I'll probably have to buy a new throttle body... Any ideas ?
I had the same problem. Tapping the gas pedal will get it to idle lower once its warmed up- but is only temporary! Check GenVibe forums for the 2004 Vibe GT TB fix once you replace it
Pulling alternator is no biggy. That would leave so much more access. I could do this whole job so much easier that way and in the same amount of time.
Dude, why are your RPM's so high. My son has a 06 Corolla and it doesn't rev that high on the highway. And you installed thermostat incorrectly. That small hole with little pin needs to be at the top
lol..1..this is an xrs..has a 2zz. comes with variable valve time Lift intelligence know as VVTLI FOR SHORT.. Has An extra cam lobe that gets activated at about 6800 rpm..like Hondas Vtech...and on the bleeder dial...its not a big deal ..had the car like that for its entire life with never any problems of overheating. sold this car a year ago now

Also…..just putting a magnet…like a refrigerator magnet UNDER that stud will help for when you drop the nut trying to get it back on!

I got P0128 so I'm guessing it's my stat in my 04 matrix xrs. Don't notice the temp gauge really all that low though. Maybe sensor?

you put your thermostat up side down it wont work right
incorrectly installed... Bleed valve needs to be at the top not the side. Only way to bleed air out of the system
