Nicolas, you can do it without removing it, but the flow is much better without it. If you keep it in you have to keep the engine temperature high so the thermostat stays open. I prefer it out. :)
I removed mine to clean it inside out, but you don't have to. One of the easy ways to empty it is with a turkey baster - just suck up all the fluid and remove it.
I deleted my heater core and have a U hose at the engine side next to the thermostat sensor. If I wanted to do a flush like you displayed do I need to remove the thermostat sensor? or can I leave it in place while I flush the pipes?
I have also done that before. Later I reversed it and installed a new heater core. That is a big job! Anyway, you can flush with the thermostat in place, but make sure it is open so you can have good flow.
What with water in heater ?. I've Toyota Avensis 4a-fe engine. I need to flush whole cooling system and replace whole coolant. I saw in my car that the heater is behind the engine bulkhead. It is lower than coolant hoses. There is no possibility to drain out at gravity. Have Sb some idea ?

I understood now. It is not possible to drain it by using gravity. You must flush with water and add new coolant, but the water is pressurized, the coolant is not. How can I put new coolant inside?
@@jezjezowsk4309 When you watch that video you will see the place where the tubes from the heater core comes through the firewall into the engine bay. Once you have flushed the heater core you remove the clear hoses from the Heater core tubes. Then all will drain by gravity. Those protruding tubes are at the bottom of the heater core and will drain with gravity. After you have drained it you reconnect your normal hoses and fill with new coolant. @@anthonywendt5834 My water is really bad...incredibly hard water. My grandfather apparently rigged the wash bay hose off the water softener before water heater. Otherwise, I hook up to the hot water. Decent video tho. The title should say thermostat change or removal as well. Thx Pen-Pusher

No, because it has a rubber seal. :)
