Same here, except I do it every 2 years and I've never done a complete flush. My truck is 20 years old and my car is 10 years old, and zero cooling issues on either one.
I have a Honda City 2021 model (Asian spec.... In South Africa its a Ballade) anyways, i notice these radiator caps are really crap. or they seem crap. They dont have a good tight fit or they just dont see to have much of a press down when u open them, i wonder if they even seal well? My car has only dont 21000 kilometers but the climate here is a killer, extremely hot... humid weather. How will i know when to change my cap.... besides checking the rubber for strange cracks or warps....
Warped and cracked rubber seal on the cap will cause a vacuum leak when the radiator is trying to draw in coolant from the recovery tank. Don't ask how I know this

I have a 1999 Honda accord Lx. As soon as I start it up the temperature gauge goes from cold to hot within a minute. It is high but won’t overheat. I have changed the thermostat, coolant sensor, temperature sensor, drain and filled coolant but haven’t changed the thermostat temperature sender yet I have checked the water pump no drip from the bottom and the head gasket seems fine as I was driving for 30 minutes but car won’t overheat both radiator fan and AC fan turns on. Would you be able to shed some light on this issue
@@TonyP0425 definitely sounds like the sender to the gauge or gauge itself since it's saying its overheating within a minute. I would start with the sender to the gauge then the gauge itself if that doesn't fix 👍
Vehicle being warm or cold will not help nor slow down the way coolant drains. It's not molasses, it's change in viscosity will be undetectable even if any changes occur.
Then probably full. Make sure came up to full operating temperature so thermostat opened. Keep an eye on level for next week to make sure doesn't need topping up 👍
I ask auto parts store to get the right coolant and they said it takes the green stuff and few months my radiator is leaking and when I check the radiator cap it said dexcool orange stuff auto parts lie

@@shan8737 I buy the 50/50 diluted mix usually or if I buy concentrate I mix with distilled water myself. Or it I flush system with distilled water and don't drain block I'll add concentrate until I get 50/50 mix
Silliness. Mix a gal of bad gas with a gal fresh gas gives 2 gals of bad gas. Mix a gal of stale milk etc. The only safe way of playing that game is by testing the coolant ph, rust inhibitors, freeze level, anti-corrosion, lime and other contaminants. Leaving the bad stuff in there will make the fresh stuff go bad sooner.
So, I have an issue going on with my 2017 Silverado 5.3L 2WD: It stays within op temp when idle in park. No leaks I can see, no loss of coolant, and oil looks good. But anything over 1K RPM it starts to overheat. It backs off very quickly. Fan runs, just changed reservoir cap and thermostat (both 4 months ago), and both radiator hoses hot. Plus, I use a code reader to check sensor temp and they match. Heater works as well. I’m thinking worn water pump, or clogged radiator (which I flushed when I changed thermostat and reservoir cap). Anything helps. 🤷🏻♂️ 💩 🚙
@@coachlincolnraiders3827 How many miles are on the truck? I'm thinking it may be the radiator that would be my educated guess second-guess would be the fan clutch. With engine off fan should have resistance when spinning. Although with a bad fan it would most likely overheat at idle too

Change of your thermostate means changing your radiator cap and you're good to go, if not its your radiator that needs to be flushed because it is clogged if not its your head gasket that's blown. These are the main causes of overheating or a swollen radiator hose. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH, don't let no funny guy tell you otherwise. 0
dang, should have watch this earlier. Now I know my mechanic did something wrong when he replace the coolant. Good mechanics are really hard to find these days.
Same process just wont be able to run heat. So just run car to circulate and get any potential air pockets out. Can jack radiator end up or park on incline to help make bubbles come out faster too 👍
@@Snceday1 Yes cold or warm not hot because risk of burns. You can drain when warm you just want to make sure pressure has died down so when you remove cap coolant doesn't explode and spray all over. Towel over cap works well 👍

I recently replaced the cap of the radiator on my 2003 Jeep, a day or two the radiator fan stopped working… me changing the cap couldn’t have cause it right? The coolant gets so hot that looks like boiling water.
Is it electric fan? Make sure you got the right radiator cap. They have different pressure ratings, if didn't get right one coolant can run a lot hotter
It was probably the fan clutch going out the whole time that was causing overheating issue and not radiator cap. Have the issues gone away with both replaced? If not check make sure psi on cap matches up with factory cap
@@JonnyDIY the car is in Mexico (my hometown) I went last week and took a few parts that were needed as maintenance radiator cap/gas filter/lug nuts… ect just to prevent any failures, the radiator fan is 1 year old.. when I noticed it was overheating I park it and let it cool off.. then I turn back on and watch the car run for approximately 10 minutes and the fan never came on causing the car temperature to rise . Fan should come on 1-3 minutes after running the car correct?

Hi jonny my 2002 mitsubishi galant is overheating really bad and making super loud hissing noise i looked at radiator and no fluid in it at all so i topped it off and now noticed behind firewall area and engine its leaking coolant maybe hoses are bad any suggestions cause the radiator and its hoses are fine nothing infront only in the back area its leaking
Try and pinpoint where its leaking from. A hose or line back there. Worst case scenario is it's leaking from headgasket. You can do a pressure test on cooling system to help find leak. In the mean time keep topped off with at least water and keep eye on temperature gauge until you can find leak. If you check on cold engine and first start up you can sometimes find leak easier

As long as I keep it filled with water and gauge doesn't go to high on hott I'm fine with driving it and it wouldn't ruin or completely destroy the engine ..it has not smoked as of yet just hissing really loud and air blowing loud when hott or pressured. Definitely a leak after I drove the car on full hott for about 20 min I know that was stupid of me
@@jasonnasiry yes should be fine short term. If started steaming and hissing making noise again, best to figure out problem soon as you can. If headgasket, it won't matter (just dont want to overheat and warp engine head), but hopefully it's something much simpler 🙏👍
U possibly might know which hose or line it might be my coworker said it possibly the heat core hoses . Not sure what hoses back there are connected with the radiator or coolant
@@nb9536 yes it can sometimes clog thermostat. I would remove and replace. It would either be that or quite possibly the thermostat was bad to begin with causing headgasket issue. Unless that was caused by something else (blown radiator, cooling fan failure etc)

If you warm up the car, that plastic radiator plug on the bottom becomes almost impossible to remove. This seems to be by design. They only want you unscrewing that bottom radiator plug when the engine is stone cold.
After 4 ‘go ahead and’s’ in the first minute or so, my nerves gave in and I had to turn it off. Who knows how many more there were… Why do yanks say this sooo much?
Normaly your cooling fans will turn on as soon as the temperature gage has reached the middle and you step a bit on the gas and if and when the waterpump stops working check the relay or fuse, because the pump itself is a mechanical device that electronical turns on, I had a very bad waterpump for a decade that kept working as long as the relay was oké, as soon as you take your car to a garage the scam begins, mechanics are 25% honest, the rest of them are like lawyers, they let evil overshadow the good in their brains, in their world there are many dark sides, they always start talking about pressure gages and oil leaking into your coolant and change of colour of some liquid, as if your testing narcotics, don't believe this complicated nonsense, its a scam

Green stuff is fine but should drain all old dexcool first. Probably just coincidence why it's leaking I'm thinking though

Just read you say both hoses hot, inspect waterpump make sure the bearings are good no wobble or signs of corrosion or weeping

Yes i had this in South Africa, less worrying about wet carpets in the car and fixing a heater matrix, so my mechanic just did a bypass.

My hoses are collapse when cold and hot and the temperature is not cooling down until it's over heating and overheating only when driving
I would start by replacing the radiator cap, collapsed hose and overheating can both be caused by this 👍

Can still do same process, but use reservoir instead with vehicles without radiator caps and only reservoir caps 👍

Normaly your cooling fans will turn on as soon as the temperature gage has reached the middle and you step a bit on the gas and if and when the waterpump stops working check the relay or fuse, because the pump itself is a mechanical device that electronical turns on, I had a very bad waterpump for a decade that kept working as long as the relay was oké, as soon as you take your car to a garage the scam begins, mechanics are 25% honest, the rest of them are like lawyers, they let evil overshadow the good in their brains, in their world there are many dark sides, they always start talking about pressure gages and oil leaking into your coolant and change of colour of some liquid, as if your testing narcotics, don't believe this complicated nonsense, its a scam

I would do a complete flush and refill with universal green coolant or if its a Toyota Pink coolant, or if Honda blue. Or if European they call for special too.
