Since 1983 I've always had shaft final drive bikes, until now. The Royal Enfield is chain driven. I didn't even know there was such a thing as damped sprocket, go figure. Learn something new every day. Thanks. Cheers
Ahh that is frustrating when you don't get what you ask for from a shop. When I changed the chain and sprockets on my old Gixer, I made sure it had a proper dampened sprocket. Worth paying a little more for it. Glad you got it sorted 🙂

I've also got a dampened rear sprocket on my Blackbird- it certainly stops the clacking of the chain at low speeds. I wear earplugs, so I don't hear high speed whine anyway.
Great topic here, mate - I love technical topics like this. There really is a difference between the two (yes, I could hear the difference, although that Susie's growl always sounds good, lol). In the ADV world, dampeners also help prevent sprocket and shaft wear from dirt and mud build up - so I will definitely be sticking with a dampened sprocket.

I have never had one so I can't compare TRP. You got a good milage out of the old ones. Yes good idea get a new one and you would know the difference. Will have to see if my bike can use them.
Curious about the whine from the undamped sprocket. It has been decades since I regular rode a chain driven motorcycle. The last one I had was a 1976 CB750 chopper and before that a 1973 CB 750 stock. I never noticed if the chain whined and neither had damped front sprockets. 🤔
You would have the belt drive, am I correct or is it a shaft drive. I would love such a system, I believe they are almost maintenance free. Thank you for your input as always.
I couldn’t really hear it but I’m not on top of the bike. I got 30k on my gsxr600 did a chain but didn’t do the sprockets they looked great so I’ll use them next time
Damped front sprockets have been out for donkeys years and it never makes sense to go undamped. They cost virtually the same and dampers is always quieter and smoother with no loss of performance or response, none that a normal human being can perceive anyway, only time I'd go undamped is if i need a sprocket ASAP and there is nothing else available, or a dedicated track bike. That's it.

@@MRTPR My current bike is belt drive. I had the belt and pulleys changed around 90k miles. The factory rear pulley is damped.
