    You did this!!! Great explanation! I am a DIY auto repair woman and just changed brake pads and back calipers. Had an issue with bleeding since the bleeder screw broke off... ugh... but needed a full awareness of HOW the brake system works in order to be more efficient in repairing... THANK YOU!! THIS WAS FANTASTIC FOR FUTURE USE!! Maaan... did a fantastic job!

    Thank you and I’ll certainly point my mechanic to this. My civic has been suffering from sinking brakes exactly the way you mentioned for a while and the dealer had been skating over the problem citing worn brake discs. Resurfacing didn’t help and it still sinks. Explains why the Brake Hold system struggles too. Great explanation!

    "I cut out a big hole in the floorboard in front of the driver's seat, which I can extend my feet through, and use my foot soles as friction pads on the ground to stop! If I'm going to haul a trailer, I have a passenger do the same with me, on that side."

      I found that strapping the brake pads directly to my feet vs using foot soles really saves a lot of money.

    Great explanations, as always. Quick and straight to the point. I would like to see how a brake master cylinder is replaced. My BMW has some weird braking behaviour, i.e. when I go like over 50 mph and brake really hard, the pedal sinks quite a bit, the ABS kicks in, but the car doesn't stop all that well, it travels more then I would like before it stops. Maybe it's just me having too high expectations.

    • @BudgetMechanicHawaii
      @BudgetMechanicHawaii  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it’s hard to say, abs is supposed to “reduce” braking in order to prohibit wheel lockup. So it’s a combination of tire quality, road surface, etc. That being said, it should stop sooner than you think since it’s literally supposed to maximize braking power…

    What would cause my brake pedal to be stuck to the floor when pressed but will slowly come back up? Master cylider or Brake Booster? I havd changed Front Calipers, brake pads, rear wheel cyliders and brake shoes. Also bleed system after all work was done

  • @mrsmith5114
    @mrsmith5114 15 дней назад

    Should brake fluid be coming out of the brake line if you are not pressing the pedal? I am replacing a wheel cylinder, removed the brake line, but I get a never ending stream of brake fluid coming out of the brake line that is disconnected from the wheel cylinder. Bit confused on that, thought you needed to keep pressing on the brakes for that to happen.

  • @ScarabChris
    @ScarabChris Месяц назад

    How about a brake pedal that doesn't come all the way back up but otherwise is fine. I had to really slam on the brakes last week. Now when I step on the brakes it feels fine and the truck slows normal. But when I release my foot from the pedal the truck will still be slowing down. But if I give the brake pedal a quick and firm stomp the pedal will return to the all the way up position and brakes are free. I have no problem stopping. I have a problem going after slowing for a turn or speed bump. Then of course when you try to go with the brakes engaged I get all the ABS and traction control lights.

    Good video. Quick question ...I have good solid pedal with my vehicle not running. Once I fire it up and the brake booster is engaged the pedal falls nearly to the floor. I can slightly build some pressure back by pumping pedal rapidly, but not where it should be or the firmness that was there with engine off. I'm not seeing any leaks from the MC to the booster, but like you said it could be bleeding into the booster and has ruined the diaphram. Your thoughts?

    • @DanielR44
      @DanielR44 2 месяца назад

      Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm a new driver and i've got a 2007 Renault Clio which has the same issue! I can pump the brakes when the engine is off and it becomes firm however as soon as I turn the engine on the pedal goes soft again and I need to press down quite far before the car starts to stop.

    My pedal starts strong but slowly sinks as I sit. Been like this for months. Fluid level is below MAX but above halfway. I'd like to see a video on replacing a master cylinder on a 2016 Corolla. Front pads replaced 4 months ago. I replaced the rear shoes 4 days ago.

    • @dailotom
      @dailotom 9 месяцев назад

      My friend's Corolla and my Civic had the same issue. Most likely the master cylinder or air in the lines if there are no visible leaks. Try bleeding your brakes if you haven't done so, could be air in the system. If that doesn't work, master cylinder probably needs to be replaced. Both of these are not very hard nor are they expensive repairs.. You should do it sooner then later. My friend left it like that for 3+ months and he almost got into an accident due to lost of brake pressure.

      Its something you have caused when you messed with your front and back brakes, was it ok before you touched it

    • @BudgetMechanicHawaii
      @BudgetMechanicHawaii  9 месяцев назад +1

      Is it very slowly? This could be due to abs module, but if it sinks in less than 5 seconds that not normal. I would suspect master cylinder. Air in brake lines will make it feel soft and spongy but not sink to the floor

    • @rabudman
      @rabudman 9 месяцев назад

      @@BudgetMechanicHawaii Thanks. Now I'm thinking it's just air in the lines. It sinks slowly but not all the way to the floor and sometimes it feels fine. I'll try to bleed them soon.

    Hello! I hope you are well. My dad has a 2001 ford f150 and we have a sinking brake pedal problem. We have changed and bled the master cylinder, we also changed the brake booster, as well as the ABS module but the brake pedal is still sinking to the floor. We even changed all four brake calipers. We have bled out the brakes numerous times and gone through many bottles of brake fluid, but the problem remains the same. Are there any other potential causes as to why our brake pedal is still sinking? Please let us know. Thank you in advance! :)

    • @ingridnicole1120

      In addition to this, when the car is off and we are pressing the brake, the brake pedal is firm. But once we turn on the car, the brake pedal sinks all the way to the floor.

    What do u think it is when ur pedal goes to the floor and the brake master cylinder is replaced and brakes bled out of air? I have done all the work and still have a soft pedal and bled it multiple times

    I replaced the caliper on my truck. I bleed that line till no bubbles but now the pedal go to the floor. You can pump it fast and it will build up pressure but it eventually goes to the floor again. Does this sound like air or mc?
