  • This is definitely one of my favorite ways to preserve our tomato harvest, especially the gallons of cherry tomatoes we harvest every week! dehydrating them concentrates the flavor beautifully and provides a bright pop of flavor to a variety of dishes. Dehydrated tomatoes are even great all on their own!
    Bonus footage of the pigs and the progress they're making on the greenhouse planting area, as well as a peek at some honeybees and goats.
    I hope you enjoy!

    Excellent video with clear explanation, I do the exact same with my tomatoes & before I purchased a Dehydrator I did mine in the oven overnight & it works great. I put some into jars with olive oil & sliced dehydrated garlic slices & mixed herbs great with salads or added to sandwich. I also do some large tomatoes & grinding them up for tomato powder. found your channel via Ruth Zimmerman looking forward to watching all your episodes. ❤️

    I feel like there are often dehydrators at the thrift store. A great place to start!
    Thank you. I really enjoy your content.

    Thank you for Themis awesome video! I was just trying to figure out what to do with the many cherry tomatoes that we have pouring in from the garden. Shamefully, I let some go bad trying to figure it out with everything else going on. This was so simple. I will be doing this tomorrow. Please do more videos on how to preserve the harvest.

      I definitely will! My sister in law throws tomatoes she doesn't know what to do with into the freezer, whole. You can make them into sauce later when you're ready for them! It totally works!

    I have one cherry tomato plant this year, but they are more like grape sized, so I think they would shrink down to almost nothing if I dehydrated them!

      They do! It's funny, one tray FULL is like a cup of dehydrated tomatoes!

    Ah! I remembered the large air fryer we have suggested you can use it for dehydration. I started it before starting your video, so I started it at 150, but I can't set it to work for more than an hour at a time. In 50 minutes I'll set it to 165. And I'll update how it goes! (I'm going to borrow my mom's dehydrator next time, but I have just the beginning ripe tomatoes just now so all I needed for today was the small receptacle.)

    how do you use the dehydrated tomatoes?

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  2 года назад +2

      I love to add them to the pasta water when cooking pasta, they rehydrate in there and create an awesome texture and flavor to the dish. I throw them into chilli, we rehydrate and put them in omelettes or really anywhere that calls for a diced tomato when tomatoes are not in season! They are also a nice crunchy snack on their own. 😊❤🍅

    I want a dehydrator 😀 when using my oven it didn't turn out well and now I have a new to me oven that I'm still figuring out its quirks, one of which is it gets hotter than expected 😅

      Our oven is great but the stove is not, we have 2 broken burners and one of them is either HIGH or off!

    • @MinnieAcresFarm
      @MinnieAcresFarm 3 года назад +1

      @@SageandStoneHomestead thats what happened to ours before the oven finally went out. The part to fix it was gonna be so expensive we just got a used one on marketplace because I literally do not care what it looks like but $35 was a sweet price point for me to have all working eyes and an oven that regulates instead of burns the house down 😂😂😂

    How do I get the recipe pls!

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  Год назад +1

      The recipe isn't written because it's more of a process instead of a set recipe with quantity involved. You just slice up tomatoes and add salt to taste, dehydrate on 145 until crisp throughout. Hope that helps! ❤
