The SIMPLE Downswing Sequence To Hit STRAIGHTER Shots

  • In this video, Mike Pitt teaches you a simple downswing sequence that will help you hit straighter shots. Many golfers were taught to lead with the hips but solely rotating with the hips will disconnect the sequence by leaving the hands behind. By getting the hands down first in the downswing, it will help the golf ball leave on a straighter line.

    Ok after literally thousands of videos, dozens of live lessons, following hundreds' of instructors, let me be very clear here, there is no one and nothing that even comes close to his teaching methods. Been there and tried everything. Mike's lessons are the real deal and all one needs. Unplug everything and run to Mike. In over 20 years of trying I see the light with Mike 🙂

    "Backing into the target on the downswing', cool thought, helps keep the shoulders closed a little longer coming down, promoting that inside path. Great thought!

    The feeling that works for me is so different than what I was used to. With long Irons and Driver taking the head straight back or feeling like it goes straight back and stays straight back dramatically changed things for me. I had always gotten flatter and flatter the longer the club but that didn't work at all with this set up. Loving it

    After a year and a half of inconsistency and trying so many different swings. I decided to commit to the porzak/pitt way. And irons have been great still figuring out driver. But such a natural way for the body and hands to work in a not so natural thing called a golf swing. I def would advise others to do the same. If u wanna see the ball fly and feel like i barely tried this is the way. Thank you guys truly.

      Same dude. I exclusively watch their videos and I have finally developed some consistency and confidence in my irons. The really game changing thought for me was with the right elbow to belly button in the downswing. Working on that changed my whole game. If you figure out something that clicks for you on driver lmk Lol, I'm still trying to figure that out

      @GolfPitt  6 месяцев назад

      Hi, thank you for watching! There is always a give-and-take with golf…an open leadfoot will help the player rotate a little better through the golf ball, but will also restrict their backswing slightly. For an older golfer, I believe one of the most important things is to make sure they set themselves up to make a bigger turn.

    Hey Mike, I have a toe miss and I know my sequence is flawed as shown with the upper body firing and the hands not dropping. Do you think those could be connected? I know swings and the compensations we do for them vary from player to player, but just wondering if in general that sequence on the down swing causes a toe miss?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  7 месяцев назад

      Absolutely. When the body opens up quick, the hands and the shaft comes steep and end up going across the golf ball because the body is opened. This causes a lot of of the shots.
      Keep your chest down longer through the golf ball and fire your hands past the golf ball.
      You can check out this video here, and some of these drills may help you to better contact!

    This works really good with a wedge, as I see many guys demostrate this with a wedge in hand. Its not the same with a longer iron,, at least for me it's not.

    Is this the same with driver, delaying the opening of the hips and pulling down to the hip?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  6 месяцев назад +1

      With a driver the most important thing is to actually feel like the club had fires to the golf ball first and then you can open up your hips as hard as you want. Because the club is so much longer and heavier. You really need to make an effort to release the golf club before impact. Otherwise, you will be living with weak right shots.
      Keep the head behind the ball and swing the shaft past you to your back to the finish!
      Thanks for watching

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  6 месяцев назад

      On the way back absolutely! You can point it at the golf ball or 6 inches inside of it. We don’t tend to like to see it pointed over the golf ball all.
      In the downswing, it may possibly point at the golf ball or slightly over it

    I won't name names, but there are certain instructors on RUclips who teach that you can't open your shoulders or chest up fast enough. Starting with our arms, as you're coaching here, might have the shoulders about square to the target line at impact??? Certainly not racing to open them up. So much contradiction, so confusing. Is this feel you are teaching here strictly for someone pulling the ball? Or should we all strive to do what you are directing your student to do here?

    • @CallMeJackWagon
      @CallMeJackWagon 7 месяцев назад +2

      I'm no expert but my understanding is that you have to turn like you're describing if you have a bowed wrist (open face) - Porzak doesnt teach a bowed wrist so matching the hands to the chest at impact puts everything squared up. He talks about this a lot - the horse race analogy..
      I think you have to time the hands, arms, chest based on how you're bringing the clubface to the ball. In my case, I've had to adopt the "keep your back to the target as long as possible" feel. I have to feel closed as a bring my hands/arms through. It just works better for me with a more neutral grip and no bowing. The turn happens naturally, I dont even think about it.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  7 месяцев назад +2

      Getting the hands down before you open up through the golf ball will help every human being on the planet… unless you’re getting stuck under the plane and hitting big chunks thins, big pushes or giant overdraws… then you could just think about accelerating your left arm and opening up your body. This is only 15% of golfers I would guess
      Once the hands come down, you are free to open up and rotate as hard as you want!
      The one piece of advice I would give all you guys out there is try to stick with one instructor when you’re looking on RUclips. Piecemeal Ing different tips from different people together and trying to make them work is a recipe for a disaster.
      Thank you for watching!

    • @Blue_Dun
      @Blue_Dun 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@GolfPitt I'm in that "15%" category 🤣. And you are right about listening to a bunch of RUclips instructors at once. Like many, I have been down that rabbit hole and it was detrimental. I've been crawling out of that rabbit hole and trying to stick with a couple instructors who have a similar philosophy. But it's an addiction not easily overcome🤣
