The Secret To A Perfect Takeaway || 3 Tips

  • In this video, Mike Pitt teaches you his secret to the PERFECT takeaway. The 3 tips he goes over for the takeaway are 1) A Leverage Grip 2) Set Up and 3) wrist hinge in the takeaway. Many golfers find it hard to reach the set position (when the golf club is fully set) because many amatuers move their wrists isolated from the body's turn. But in Mike's example, he teaches you how to mesh those two together in order to have a perfect takeawy in minutes.

      So we'll explained, I haven't seen this explained so we'll before.
      I've been working on the "keep arms together and tuck trail elbow" routine... Works great one day and then falls apart.
      I get the impression that the half swing you show often gets ruined by a poor second half of full backswing, but your descriptions including shaft lean angle are so clear. Thanks

    • @joelbrooks814
      @joelbrooks814 5 месяцев назад +1

      This tip works like a charm. When you execute it, your shaft mimics or runs through your right forearm every single time. When I do it, the shaft travels between my forearms - maintaining the Triangle. Is there a difference between the two or is one better than the other? Thanks in advance for your valuable time.

    This is arguably the best takeaway video I’ve never seen and trust me I’ve watched my share lol. Two things to add are that if I have too much shaft lean at set up or get my left hand too strong that too tends to suck the club more too inside. I love the one handed left arm drill because you can play around with your set up and see what happens if you try to vary grip, posture, etc

But after doing exactly as instructed in this video and moving very slowly at first to really capture that leverage feel and that palm heel press, then slowly moving into progressively more complete swings guided by that feel, I have never executed more consistently pure strikes one after the other. HUGE THANKS!!!! I feel like I owe you money, LMAO!!! 🤑⛳️👍🏻😎👍🏻⛳️🤑

      I have to add something I feel is very important to the design and amazing results of this method of moving into the backswing. If the left arm is kept straight as you motion your rotation into the set position, the wrists set correctly almost automatically. It’s incredible how natural and effortless this feels. So instead of throwing the club up to set the wrists which can cause the player to chase the direction of the clubs weight while being forced, the club is guided by its natural orbit in the swing circle. If the timing is matched up with rotation correctly, it feels SO natural to let the arms drop through the inside slot and let the club release all on its own coming through the ball. The sensation of pressure into the ball is VERY different to anything one has felt before if they have never performed this exactly as you describe. It did take a good 20 swings to get used to how much closer to the ground I felt moving into the ball. But after feeling that much accelerated whip at the bottom, it all made total sense. For me it has been an absolutely profound change in a beautifully positive way. Thanks again my man!!
      👍🏻😎👍🏻

    Hi Mike I have an unrelated comment for you. Since taking up the Porzak swing I’ve been playing great. But it fell apart in my last 5-6 rounds. To many bad shots. I finally found the problem yesterday in the park. Ulnar deviation thru impact. My wrist weren’t truly releasing. They we’re staying a little cocked. We really need a short video on the hands (wrist) thru impact!
    Thx PS: should be back in the 70’s tomorrow 😊

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for the feedback! At some point in the golf swing, we have to let all of the energy transfer to the club ahead and release…. If there is any attempt to hold onto the golf ball or tighten up, we can inhibit the speed and the accuracy…. We will definitely get some content for you on this!!
      In the meantime, you can try making some swings where you try to swing the club hard and hold the finish short with your arms out in front of you in the club head and shaft pointed towards your target almost like a half swing straight arm straight club finish this may help you in the meantime… ideally, we want to be able to release the club as hard as we won’t bother rotating and have a club face release Square to the plane.

    Great video as always! Do we want to feel like we are actively pushing down on the grip with our left hand throughout the backswing and downswing until impact?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 месяцев назад

      Depends where you’re coming from. If you’re someone who, in the past or currently lets the hands raise up in the backswing with creating any leverage or set, then it will definitely feel like you’re pushing foam and away in the take . If you’ve traditionally kept the hands fairly level, it will continue to feel like they are just staying level and the pressure builds in the left heel pad and grip to naturally set the club!

  • @stevewherry6205
    @stevewherry6205 9 месяцев назад

    loving the tips Mike, question would you set the rest of the bag the same way, thinking woods and driver? tks

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 месяцев назад +1

      Awesome! At the end of the day a shorter club with more loft will set a little more,
      quicker and faster than a longer club with less loft. You would still move your hands straight down the line of your feet and let the pressure build in the heel pad to set up the clubhead up in front your hands, but because there’s less preset leverage created between the shaft and the arms in the setup for a long club (because of length of club amount of loft and lie angle of the shaft). The longer clubs/woods would set a little “wider”, softer or slower vs an iron.
      Thanks for watching!

    Mike has a great way for the club take away. I have thought about pushing the club butt toward the ground w the left hand. But Mike's protocol is quite clear and easy to follow. My shots tend to go right to the 1 oclock, is that because i did not turn the body fast enough.?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for the kind words! The slight right push could be a number of things, is it a compressed 1 o’clock or is it kind of a wipey 1 o’clock? If it’s Wipey the clubface is arriving to the golf ball open. In the backswing you would feel the toe stay down a little, you would make sure that when you’re setting the club you would have a flat left wrist or even bowed depending on your grip and your right hand little more on top… on the downswing he would make sure you feel through the golf ball your right hand stay a little bit more on top and your left and knuckles get roled toward the ground.
      If it is a compressed, 1 o’clock, yes, you can probably just rotate a little more around your left leg through the golf ball.
      Thank you for watching!

    This was a great comprehensive explanation. I tried it and shanked a lot, but when I made contact the results were great. I used to get hands out early and get laid off at the top, then tug the club into delivery. So when I get this correct it feels like the polar opposite. Any tips to avoid shanking whilst I get used to this movement based on my history?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 месяцев назад +1

      OK so, first thing I would check and make sure when you’re setting the club your lead wrist is flat and not cupped… second thing I would check with make sure that there’s no runoff of your arms past your bodies turn off the top… the final thing I would check would be restructure in the downswing making sure your lead. Wrist is flat or even bowed coming down, you’re trail hand can feel like it faces the ground, and is more on top longer into the golf ball. At impact you can feel the back of your lead wrist facing the target or your lead knuckles facing the ground.
      At the end of the day the feel is you need to retain the angle, attack the golf ball from the inside and hit it with what feels like the toe first.

    The best instruction I have seen for the takeaway, are your feet turned out or straight though? I struggle to turn 90 degrees.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  8 месяцев назад

      Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words! I like square feet unless needed! To help a bigger backsing you could drop the trail foot back slightly and you could also flare trail foot toes slightly. You should check out a recent video I did on this channel on how to make a bigger turn!! It covers all the ways to get a bigger turn!

    Mike, love the video but need some clarification on when to start pressing down w/ my left palm. do you press down right from the start of the takeaway or when you want to take you club to the top of your backswing?

    Always struggle with the club face getting too far outside my hands on the takeaway. Any tips would be great, thanks!

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely, make sure your hands go straight down the line of your feet and make sure the club head goes straight down the line of the target…. The other thing you can do is put a golf ball behind your club and you can work on brushing that ball straight back or even slightly to the inside to correct your individual issue. This is one of my favorite shows for take away, and will be posting on the channel soon!
      You can also put an alignment rod on the outside edge of your club, and visually make sure the deck club had stays inside the alignment rod for the duration of your take away

    My irons are standard lofts and lies. When I try this set up it feels like the toe of the club rises up. Is that okay or is it something that I’m doing wrong with my set up? Thanks!

    So are we talking about the shoulder blade complex moving when you say the shoulder ? Because my actual shoulder can only rotate. It’s the scapula that can help me push down. I just need clarification

  • @amfohr

    But when you start pressing with your heelpad you also create a cup in your wrist. How loose players that cup at the top of the backswing?

  • @donschultz7759

    So to get the leverage i wanna feel as my lead heeel pad is pushing down the grip?. Kinda lost there Visualizing this.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  12 дней назад

      so the pushing down feel is more for people whose hands lift up during the take away, whatactually happens is the hands stay the same level for about 18inches - 2 feet and because the left heel pad is on top of the golf club, it will create a lever… pressure will build at the top of the grip and in your heel pad and pop the club up!

    Hi Mike, when you grip the club on order to push down on the handle, it looks like you grip the club through your palm. I thought it was suppose to go through your fingers.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 месяцев назад

      I grip the club in my fingers. Gripping in the fingers os what creates the leveraged positon at address and dramatically helps the club hinge easier! Thank you for watching!

      Fair… I also to describe your belt buckle as a bucket full with water, and when you tilt you’re trying to pour some of the water out over your belt buckle…. This will help the hip hinge and pelvic tilt.… depending on the person in front of me, I will describe a different at the end of the day we want to create some angles from the hips, pelvis, waist area!

      That’s awesome! The pump drill is something that everyone needs all the time, so make sure you keep that one in the rotation forever!
      I also love the simplicity of the gate drill and it’s feedback for the habitual over the topper!
