  • Learn how to take the golf club away in the backswing. The first move in the backswing we call the golf swing takeaway. For many golfers learning to get a great backswing takeaway feeling can transform the overall look and simplicity of your golf swing.
The downswing in golf takes just half a second to complete leaving you very little time for your body to adjust to mistakes you may have made in your golf backswing. If you can learn to perfect the golf swing takeaway and then know to how the body and the wrists work complete your golf swing the golf downswing becomes almost automatic.
In this weeks golf lesson you will learn how to develop the feel necessary to do it every time with your driver swing and your iron swing.

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RUclips and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumbleI’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Thank you so much Danny. For 30 + years i have been coming over the top on my downswing mainly due to my bringing the club-head inside too soon during my backswing. Flexing the left side whilst extending my right ( trail) side during my backswing (takeaway) has magically resulted in a better release , follow through and much straighter shots. You are the best! Simple , easy to understand yet super effective!

Danny, Love your backswing take away tip. It has helped be to take the club straight back with a coordinated arm/body move and turn my front shoulder down during the backswing rather than around, and especially put pressure on my right heel and front toe prior to swinging forward. This has helped me from moving my front foot which resulted in inconsistent shots. You are my number one golf instructor. Stay safe and healthy.

I went for years with a wide backswing. Your catapult concept changed that for me. This vid reinforces that idea. With my wide backswing I could never clear my hips either. That caused a lot of pain getting through. Extension and flexion concept is hard to visualize but really allows freedom through the ball impact area. Thanks again, Danny.

Thanks Danny! The last couple months I’ve been struggling with drawing my approach shots too much- about 10 yards. That’s a tough angle to come in from so I’ve been trying to straighten it out a bit. I’ve watched a lot of videos and tried several things (more open stance, more out to in swing, faster hips), but still struggled. Yesterday it dawned on me to re-watch your videos on takeaway. This immediately fixed my problem as I realized I was taking my backswing a little behind me and rotating a bit more than pivoting. I was able to straighten it right out as well as practice a small fade or still hit a strong draw when I may want to.
Your instructional videos are excellent and I really appreciate you!

    Hi,Danny,
Really great video and explains the backswing beautifully.
I had a dose of the shanks recently and went to see my local pro. He has sorted me out, thankfully, but when I had a few lessons a few years ago, I was told, at parallel to my feet line, to have the toe of the club pointing to the sky. This is where you have yours in this video. However, the local pro insists that I have to get the club face ‘looking at the ball’ longer and, at parallel to the ground, actually closed and still looking at the ball. A little confused now.

I realized I wasn't getting enough body rotation on my backswing to create the space needed to really lower my hands and come at the ball from the inside. This is THE best explanation on RUclips. Hey Danny! I golfed some when I was younger, but never really learned what to do. I am now retired and have some time, so I decided to give golf a second go. I picked up some clubs and started in earnest to get better about 3 weeks ago.
While I am 60, I am still in very good shape. RUclips has been a mixed bag of advice for me as there are so many different videos on "tricks to hit it flush".. So many people offering different advice on how to hit the ball well..
Lucky for me, I found your videos and find them to be top notch. I only watch yours now - I love how you focus on the fundamentals and express yourself so clearly.
You're a great teacher, and While I am still duffing my way, I am hitting 260+ yard drives right down the middle and am getting better with my irons..
Then I'll focus on the short game and putting..
Your videos have truly been a great help to me and I very much look forward to seeing all of them - in due time.

Came back to this video, and watched it again a couple times and immediately used this while hitting into my backyard net. I love you man. Seriously, a tear came to my eyes when your father hugged you after the chipping lesson. This golf drill changed my game from night to day. I never understood how to work the club UP. I didn't even really get the concept of it working UP. I've always thought AROUND with the body, but never also UP. This split hand drill should be taught to every beginner golfer. I want to say THANK YOU for teaching this to me and THANK YOU for posting all your videos. I will be checking out your website for sure.

This is great information for an able-body golfer but I, as a disabled golfer playing from strapped in position on a SoloRider golf cart, have less flexibility and very little lower body strength. Do you have any thoughts for a player that hits from a semi-seated position? thanks

Massive 'ah-ha!' moment from this video. Had a great lesson this week from a chap I think you know, Milo King, who identified a slight tendancy to get 'inside' which was making the swing shallow and contributing to a fat shot. Getting the club back less inside was causing me to feel like I was sliding right, but focusing on that extension of the right side made me realise I wasn't, I was just getting out of my own way and preventing that flatter inside move. Drilling this all weekend!

I'm a subscriber and I really didn't think too much off this split your hands/then right hand drill...until I decided to try it, it's fantastic! I do suffer from quite a "layed off" club at the top of my swing and instantly this felt so different but also so right, even comfortable! I know from experience it'll take quite a while to ingrain the movement but I will work hard to do so.
Thanks again for all your dedication to the channel; you're definitely the most agreeable, pleasant and likeable golf instructor on RUclips !

I tried this on a couple of iron shots today, and hit it 10-15 yards past my normal yardage. I also drove it over a bunker that I normally don’t carry. This absolutely works for extra power, with no extra effort. I’m bad to restrict my turn by not right side extending enough, and not allowing the left obliques to crunch. You demonstrated the flaw that people do perfectly. I’ve saw it on the course EVERYWHERE. Shot even par(72) today. Love your content, Danny.

I had the worst problem with bringing the club too far inside for a long time. I finally fixed it by trying to swing a shovel without hitting the ground... if you have any tendancy to cheat the backwing by using your hands and arms and leave the shovel too low as you turn, you will hit the ground. Everytime! I learned a lot from this video!

Great lesson Danny I’ve shortened my swing Somy hands only go to upper trailing arm, more control and same distance less to go wrong.
I had two years of driver yips freezing on the backswing fear of the ball and a back swing like John Daly! Most of my friends said they would have given up golf I didn’t I rebuilt my swing and it was hell but through hard work I now enjoy golf more and have more consistency.

Hi Danny, over the last couple of years due to various injuries and illness my swing had deserted me and I had lost distance and control with a result that my handicap has drifted out a long way.
