How to STRIKE YOUR IRONS & Your WOODS - You Need to Know the Difference!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 июл 2024
- Have you ever found that some days you hit driver amazing but strike your irons poor and then on a completely different day you suddenly struggle to hit your driver anywhere near the fairway but out of nowhere now strike your irons like a PGA Tour Player 😁
Why is that? 🤷
One possible reason that you may forget from time to time, is that your fairway woods and Driver are different to your irons and require a slightly different approach and golf swing.
It's not a huge difference and therefore is pretty easy to implement but you need to be aware of it. Too often I see golfers hitting their fairway woods and driver with the same golf swing they hit their irons and vice versa.
Today you are going to learn how to easily adjust your golf swing for your irons, fairway woods and driver.
It's super simple!

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RUclips and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you hit your driver straight. If you are a beginner golfer and are looking for some golf driver tips that are simple and easy to do then you are going to love this.
I will show you the golf swing slow motion so that you can see what you need to do to improve.
We look at 3 things:
1. How to stop slicing your driver
2. How to swing more in to out or how to swing more inside out
3, How to get the correct impact position with driver
and I hope to do all this with simple golf tips so you can create an effortless golf swing
Hope you enjoy - Спорт
Practice swings are so important before you take the real swing. Every practice swing needs to be focusing on where the club is meeting the low point. Good content Danny.
Never do practice swings. That's what the driving range is there for. On the course just go and hit the ball.
Ur brain loses focus every 3 to 12 seconds I don’t do practice on anything get line and go
studies show practice swings have a negative impact on results ur brain is designed to do things automatically practice swings and trying to replicate them interferes with that
@@harperphillips5115 I don’t agree with those studies. Maybe that’s true of people who have bad course management?
Thanks Danny.
I was a 22 handicap till I learnt the difference between the three strikes. Then I moved to 14 in 8 months.
I wish I has seen this video 10 years ago when I first started golf. Truly great teacher
Danny I have been following you for a while. You teaching style allows true communication of the needed body and rotation extensions for a proper swing. Thanks and please continue to save medium level golfers.
Hi Danny, it’s incredible how every week with your new video you’re surprising me thanks to the very clear and simple ( but always clever and detailed ) advises you provide. Excellent job this week too. You’re the best on the internet Danny !!! It’s a pity that we can’t meet in person, living me in Italy ... thank you as always ! Manuel from Italy 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 and GO EUROPE GOOO !!! 🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺
Feedback station is a class idea 👍. Really useful for all types of shots. Thanks for explaining it so clearly Danny⛳️
Pleasure Colin, all the best
This up and down motion helped me to go from 180 to 230 and greater consistency.
Thank you for for your help!
You are very welcome Mike
This was the best illustration I have seen for how to improve my consistency in striking. Can’t wait to go to the driving range and take it to the golf course. My guess is once my body understands the principle, it remains the same for all my clubs, but I will have to play around with the different lengths to get used to hitting long and short irons
This is happening to me. One day driver hitting fairways next day i lose a box of balls lol. Irons gotten better from watching you. Still struggling. Needed this video today. Thanks coach. Keep the videos coming.
That’s great Byrd, happy to help
Fantastic video Danny. Your demonstration with the alignment stick is a light bulb moment for me which combined with reminding us of the extension back and through is going to help me so much. Many thanks as always
Thnx for doing a video on low point - my nemesis! Your recent tips have improved my game so much Danny. Played Hopeman Links whilst on holiday last week and my hybrids were hit much shallower instead of 'chopping wood'. Scored really well. This video is a must watch and keep saved. All the best Danny.
Fantastic video Danny, I really like the use of the alignment stick as a visual aid, it makes it so much simpler. As always, a wonderful instruction video, many thanks for your weekly class
Excellent lesson Danny! I am that golfer…some days my driver is perfect but my iron strike is less than optimal. This video really clarifies for me how to improve my strike by using the lesson to help me manage the low point for all my clubs.
As always your lessons a simple, clear, concise and easy to implement. You have really helped me understand the my swing and it’s faults and what the fixes are for them.
Thank you…Mike
Danny, thanks for all the great videos, I’ve taking many lessons, but I get so much more out of your videos.
Hi Danny awesome video. I've been playing golf for 45 years, numerous lessons, always taught to turn your shoulders ( body ) I've just found that putting my weight onto my heals a bit more and flexing my knees more I now get the same sensation of rear shoulder up then front shoulder up . Thanks for showing the proper sequence of how to swing.
Best online tips because they are so well explained and demonstrated. Great example of the KISS principle applied to golf instruction. Makes me want to fly out for a week of instruction.
Great tips. Explains to me why I never take a divot with an iron and lose distance but can get away with straight drives. Swinging around rather than up and down.
Flummoxed by subtitles which obstructed the vital bit at the bottom of the video but worked out how to turn these off at the foot of RUclips screen. Thanks
Best video so far! I have always had issues hitting the ball, almost always slicing or just flat-out duffing it. This video has shown me the different locations of the club head in relation to the ball on contact. Fantastic, Danny!
It is like you watched me hitting balls when you decided to do this video.....thanks again for another good video.
Thanks, Danny. Love your instruction/videos--clear and to the point. I've been struggling with finding my swing plane, often blocking or drawing the ball, which makes my width error rather broad. Meaning I miss the greens on both sides. Focusing on the up and down and up, seems to be giving me more chance to swing down the line, as opposed to coming across or pushing out, both of which I am doing.
What about a playing vlog Danny , see if you can play, you could do a course management vid
absolutely 👍
Danny is the Jay Leno of golf!! I live the lessons. Can’t wait to try this one
Have fun 😁
Excellent instruction. Thanks, Danny.
Such a clear explanation of the low point and it’s effect on ball flight Danny. You are a brilliant communicator and coach. Your extension plus rotation drill I know from a previous video works really well.Thank you so much.
You are very welcome Peter really happy to help
Great instruction Danny, as usual. Been really focusing on the “pivot” rather than the previous swing’s turn during this past season, going from a 13 to a 9 handicap. I love your simplicity and athlete-focused approach to instruction, and I wondered if you plan on speaking about issues like consistency and routine? I would really appreciate hearing/seeing what your thoughts are around strategy, prep and routine. Thanks again!
Pleasure Kurt, all the best
Just amazing, no other words
Another treasure trove of advice Danny, explained simply and easy to follow. Best online coaching resource I've come across on RUclips, always learning (or being reminded of something I should already know :-) something from you. Cheers!
Pleasure Ed, really happy to help
Awesome Danny. Thanks for this!!! 👌🏼
Very helpful. Thank you.
There are many good instructors out there, none as good as Danny Maude at demonstrating and teaching.
Thanks Michael 😁
Thanks DM
Just what l needed for my irons. Not hesitant with them as much as not confident, comfortable with them. This will help for sure.
Cheers. Joseph
Hope it helps
Thanks Danny, I notice that, early in the downswing, you plant the left foot. This must establish the correct pivot and ensure that the low point is on the left side. With the fairway 'woods' the downswing seems to be exactly the same as the irons, but the ball position is 2" further forward. Roger
Danny, Brant from So California, this is the video I was asking about... it has added yards on my drives and had improved my ball striking!!! Thank you for all you do and the awesome training tips, CHEERS !!!
Pleasure Brant 😁
I gotta say Danny I've been following and watching your tips for the last year or so and it has improved my game so much. I'm always looking forward to the next video. Thank you so much!
Thats wonderful, great to have you part of the community
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant as always Danny. A great way to show the swing pattern and low points of each club, makes a huge difference on your swing and distances. Fantastic. Thank you for all your efforts. Definitely helped me this year getting from 17.5 to 12.4..
He’s the only one who makes sense.Would love to take some lessons and get fitted at his shop
@@munirahmed46 great response, I would love to meet the man in person for a lesson or 2. Other end of the country for me, but you never know.
Let's hope he keeps on doing what he knows best...well done Danny.
Knew that driver swing was upward, bit had been attempting it by swinging upward. Thanks!
All sounds so simple when Danny demonstrates. But to ave golfer playing of an uneven surface as got to be different. I see the point of whats said but must try to put into action. Always enjoyable to watch Danny
Danny… great lesson once again!! I can’t wait to take this lesson to range! Thank you for being awesome!
Have fun Carlos
Great Danny, as always. Your explanations are always clear and detailed without over complication of things. Been following you forca while and I am definitely now playing better
, can see improvements. Been concentrating on trying to stop my old turning around a point to turn and extending back and through. The change is proving really good, as well as now having a bit more time to practice off course rather than trying to change while playing is proving so beneficial.
That’s brilliant Colin keep up the good work speak soon
Great Lesson, this really clicked with me ! The push away on the driver is what I needed. Thanks Danny.
Pleasure hope it helps
Thanks Danny!!!! This is awesome!
Thank you for your videos. As a complete beginner you make golf easier to understand and more exciting instead of frustrating.
Best video I’ve seen in ages , great info on the up and down motion of the swing as well as low point .
Hope it helps Simon
Great timing again, as I am struggling currently with my setup and try to figure out, where to place the ball for the different kinds of clubs...your clip reminded me of staying focussed on the arc of the swing and the bodymotion anyway!
This is just great! So well explained about the “up” part of the swing and not just rotary! And knowing where the bottom of the arc is! Really well done! I’m a fan of your teaching! Thank you!
Thank you Janet, all the best
Agree with Ian. Just brilliant tips to work on.
Can't wait to work on these in the morning.
Have fun Chris
Hello Danny, you are my go-to YT golf trainer. I saw another one of your How to hit a 3-wood videos, and it's helped me a lot. Keep up the good work.
Another first class video. Last week I set up on the tee did the alignment for a couple of swings great! The actual shot (4 iron) took a divot 6inch behind the ball. I was fuming!! So as you say practice!😖
One of the best videos. Maybe this is the missing link for becoming good to great.
Thanks Danny
Hope it helps
Thank you so much for making these video lessons. I don't have much free time to add in a golf coach to my game at the moment so I have been watching your videos and applying it on the range and I have instantly improved. By showing the angles, arches, pivot points and points of contact for each swing, I have gained a lot more consistent shots apart from miss hits. Thank you again, I have susbscribed and will be watching more.
Thanks Kay 😁
Great summarization Danny of previous lessons. Thanks for putting it all together in one clear and concise session. Be good, stay safe-Russ
Pleasure us enjoy the rest of your weekend
Genius Danny, brilliant lesson. Thanks
Great stuff Danny. Specially the part about when to release with the driver. Something I definitely need to practice on.
Thanks Adam, all the best
Really appreciate your videos. Thanks so much. Is new to the channel and will happily continue to follow you.
Welcome to the channel Magnus
Another brilliant video Danny. I really believe you care about our enjoyment of the game. Cheers 🍻
Hi Danny- Back to my question of how to get the upward motion of upper body (chest shoulder) going up in the backswing and downswing to get the arc right and to stop just swinging around. I found that focusing on the upward motion or bit as you call it is only half correct. It is my understanding that this upward bit is not so much as a direct consequence of a deliberate move of that part but rather a by product of the opposite leg straightening at an angle and the upward bit will happen quite naturally. To illustrate on the downswing if you straighten/extend the rear leg that is on a slant towards the target( whilst keeping the slant target wards) the left/lead/front shoulder/lead breast will rise up and back as the club head goes down into impact following the catapult idea. So the key for me is to extend the opposite leg to where you want the upper bit to rise so the club can come down. Whew!- what a lot of words but does this make sense?
Absolutely right Harold, I covered this in more detail a couple of weeks ago. Just wanted to remind golfers today
Brilliant….brilliant, great teaching video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Trevor, all the best
Top drawer as usual Danny, many thanks.
Great video danny as always
It's amazing that we can get tips like this freely. Thanks, Danny!
Glad it was helpful Mikey, happy to help
I apologise for not subscribing earlier, I was always watching your videos for advice and it was always extremely helpful, now I'm officially subscribed and loyal haha , thank you so much and keep up your wonderful work

Thanks Danny for the great instrucions i love the way how you simpele explane it
You are very welcome Hans
Hey Sir, I wanted to let you know this lesson saved me a lot of strokes today. I had been really struggling with my irons and fairway woods. I had an amazing day thanks to your awesome lesson. I also used your Chipping around the green lesson and that probably saved 4 strokes or more. Thank you!
Amazing to hear Frank. Thanks so much for taking the time to share.
Hi Danny thank you again for your fab videos,I practice at least 30min a day and my irons have been better than ever, I will practice the ball position at the driveing range thanks again,Richard
That’s brilliant Richard keep up the good work
Awesome advice Danny. You have helped me sooo much this year both understand the dynamics and create a better swing and more consistency. I even played a major part in taking down a one handicap and 3 handicap pair in an inter club match at the weekend, parring 8 0f my 11 shot holes. Thank you sooo much. Now to get the handicap down next year. 👍😉
That’s awesome Ian well done thanks for taking the time to share
Such practical information and easy to understand, will make an enormous difference to the consistency of my ball striking, thank you
Practice practice and practice some more! ⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️ Thanks Danny great lesson 💫
All the best Georgie
great explanation, thanks for all your Tips every week.
You are very welcome Marcus
Another easy to understand video, well done Danny.
All the best Dave
Great illustrations, will carry this to the range. For once I can’t wait to get into a bunker!
OMG your videos explain things soooo well. Thank you! It's almost like you have seen my game and you are giving me a private lesson.
You are very welcome
You are the man. So insightfull
Thanks for the support Joseph
Excellent instructions! Will definitely practice these first chance I can. Thank you.
Have fun John all the best

Really great advice - Thanks Danny
Pleasure
Thank you Danny. Your RUclipss are sooo helpful❤
That’s great Joanne
You are the best, thank you so much! Such a good lesson in style and technique Danny
Really appreciate that Ann
Great instruction video Danny! Especially about learning where the low points are PER club type then learning how to hit that type of club from there. This is great as I just got new clubs and can fold this into learning my new clubs distances. Headed to the range today !
Love to hear how you get on
Such great pointers again Danny, thanks so much. U still make it look easy though
Another great tip Danny! Definitely losing distance with the irons by striking too early!
Very helpful. I had been told previously about hitting ahead of the ball with irons and woods but not to the degree of separation. Thanks again for the lesson!
Pleasure all the best
i'm deleting every golf instructor and sticking to yours. Man I'm not sure how it'll translate, hope i can find a local instructor who can explain like you do. Makes complete sense listening to you, i need to understand whats going on to do something and your videos fit my mental picture really well. swinging a club in my office reversing my hands has completely changed the way i understand the swing mechanic. This ball placement video $$$$$$
I just started golfing last summer and your videos have helped my swing so much thank you for posting such great videos
Thanks Adam 😁
Danny great video it helped me hit most of my shots much more solidly Saturday as this was my first day using my new Calloway Razor X clubs now I noticed my driver , woods and hybrids shots are straighter no fade or slice #1 is that unusual and #2 my irons I was actually over hitting distance wise since I don’t have a shot monitor how can I better gauge my distance Thanks for your always advice and expertise 👍👍
Good to play a few holes with you last week Danny.
Ball position altered & I went back to striking my irons consistently again.
Funny how you can slip in bad habits without realising.
Thanks for letting me join you for a few holes. 👍
Never have i seen a similar video on youtube, its like im actually having a private lesson. You sir have earned a subscriber and a fan
Welcome to the channel
Great lesson Danny, the illustration is very clear. Just thinking one of the challenges with the irons is that before you start the swing the low point is behind the ball as you rest the iron on the ground. Is that why some players hover the iron ?
Thanks again Danny. The timing of your videos seems to always be exactly what I need to work on. One question. Should I try to hit my hybrids the same as my irons or my fairway woods? Much appreciated!
Fantastic video Danny !
Love this video! You really explain things in a way I can understand. I already see what I’m doing wrong/
Great vid, I'll apply this to my game⛳
Thanks Yas
Great tutorial Danny, I've been looking for this kind of advice for years. Time to put in practice. 👍Here's your thumbs up.
Wonderful….thank you
Excellent advice Danny...as always!! 👌
Pleasure Mark, all the best
Awesome as always Danny and now that I’m not slicing the driver I’m not hitting my 5 hybrid 3Wood or 6 iron 🤷♂️ I’m sure this video will help
Love to hear how you get on Robert
@@DanielMaude physically snd mentally fine golfing 🏌️♂️ I’m hitting my driver well 3Wood and hybrids I’m topping Irons ok chipping snd putting improving
Excellent pointers. Would you recommend playing the hybrids as you do with irons, ie. low point a couple of inches ahead of the ball. I usually place the ball 1 ball forward of the sternum center for all but the driver. For driver ball placement, between my instep and toe.
Yes, play the hybrid exactly as you do the irons. I believe I heard that from the guys at AMG and it was a game changer for me.
Very nice video as always Danny. Also what you mentioned with driver to look more towards center of the stance when you hitting the ball. I am also doing a drill when I am looking slightly forward of the ball when I am hitting my irons and it helped me with my low point so I strike them more consistently now.
That’s great 👍
Another great video Danny. When I first started to golf one of my biggest swing flaws was the reverse pivot. When you talk about pushing away from the target when using the driver I get horrible flashbacks to my reverse pivot. I know I am supposed to keep my hips moving from right to left during the downswing, but what should the weight distribution be on my feet as I push away from the target? Is there a drill to use to get the sensation of pushing away from the target without feeling the reverse pivot? Thank you for making me a better golfer.
Terrific video explaining the bottom of various clubs in the down swing.
Really happy to help
Wonderful stuff Danny thank you so much. Lots to work on and I feel a big difference coming on!
Happy to hear it 👍
I came up with a suuuuuuuuper effective drill for learning the swing and getting started on all this.
IF you hold your lead arm straight and fold your trail arm "upward", it REALLY gives you the sensation of the swing. From there you can work on lowpoint and positioning much easier. It helps a lot of people and has helped my friends a great deal when I want them to feel the swings true motion. It's weird at first for most people, but it doesn't take long before the lightbulb goes on and they are messing around with positions and getting that grip even more secure/solidified ... which ultimately makes the golf swing feel natural.
Thanks for all the tips and help through the years Danny. It's been quite a journey!
can you expand on "fold your trail arm "upward""? Trying to understand - thanks
@@howardclark2906 Like you are holding a briefcase and you bend your arm from your elbow up. Kinda like a karate chop haha! Just like you're lifting a dumbell... that's the motion I'm talking about. The lead arm is crucial in this though. If you bend that... you lose your "feel" for distance and accuracy. I can't stress how important your lead arm (left for right hand dominant) is. Without the leadarm being straight, you change the arc... and you lose the feel for the clubhead.
