The Ridiculous Reason Why 90% of Golfers Can't Strike Their Irons
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 31 окт 2024
- This is why you struggle to strike your irons pure and make solid contact 👇
1. Your sternum is not positioned correctly at address
2. Your forearms are not in line at set up - BIG ONE
3. Your posture is misaligned at set up
4. You don't transfer your weight naturally in the golf swing
5. and one cool little trick that makes your golf swing effortless
What's great is if you have any one of these faults in your golf swing they are really easy to fix and can make an instant impact on the quality of your ball striking not just with your irons but with your driver too.
For example if you want to hit your driver straight just getting the forearms aligned at address will be a real eye opener for you.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RUclips and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you hit your driver straight. If you are a beginner golfer and are looking for some golf driver tips that are simple and easy to do then you are going to love this.
I will show you the golf swing slow motion so that you can see what you need to do to improve.
We look at 3 things:
1. How to stop slicing your driver
2. How to swing more in to out or how to swing more inside out
3, How to get the correct impact position with driver
and I hope to do all this with simple golf tips so you can create an effortless golf swing
Step 3, bouncing the ball towards the target. The single-most brilliant thing I’ve seen from any golf coach on RUclips. Simple yet profound. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you, Danny.
Fully agree and never heard of that before. Amazing tip, thanks Danny and keep practicing those left handed throws 😂👍
Danny has used this technique in a video some time ago
To be fair, Mike Malaska has used throwing a ball to try and train students to hit with shaft lean. Using the body to drive the swing is also a lot like Malaska and (believe it or not) is reminiscent of Paul Wilson, although he emphasizes the hips rather than rib cage. This is not to diminish at all what Danny is doing in this video; really helpful and, to top it all off, free.
agreed big fan....i never really try to use too much for my swing but his concepts are always super relatable and were not paying.... great work Danny! appreciate ya! hope to play a round at forge pond in brick NJ!!! wink wink
@@markbellas6250 thank you Mark
The only golf instructor I'll listen to on RUclips. Great stuff
I listen to them all. 👍
Danny is a cut above
Same here
I second that!
Same here, great instructor👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yet again Danny makes so much sense without having too many thoughts
Thanks Chris 👍
Slightly backhanded, that one, Chris. I'm sure our Danny is very thoughtful! 😆
I just realized this year that I swing over the top…. I’ve been trying to make over the top consistent … I suck
Thanks for this lesson, Danny. I've been struggling for ages to try and get this right. The way you have demonstrated this three step process is so logical that I can't wait to try it.
Thank you Steve! Let me know how you get on 👍
Danny, tried this today on the course and I had a wonderful change 0n my shots. It felt effortless in a way that I haven't noticed in a long time. Thankyou. David. I'm 72 now and enjoying the game more than ever.
Well done David 🙌
I just love that he keeps his lessons simple and focuses on fundamentals. He is not trying to recreate some complex PGA players swing that took them 15+ years to build like other RUclipsrs do. He gets us as average golfers are just trying to make consistent contact and have fun playing the game.
Really appreciate the feedback
I learned more from this 12 minute lesson than years on RUclips and in person lessons. Very much appreciated 👏
Happy to help Aloha!
Keep it simple Danny!! Especially for us simple people. I hope to break 90 this year for the first time.
You got this Peter 👍
This is by far the best explanation of three easy steps for ball striking. Especially the focal point on the downswing. I was always looking at the ball or slightly in front of it. You are 100% correct with the bad intentions this does. I appreciate you explaining how to correct this bad habit! Thank you sir🙌🏽
@@Blackcloud319 thank you 🙏
As always Danny, your connection to and description of, fundamental momentum mechanics is outstanding! As I've learned to play over the last few years, I've always believed that there were benefits in looking at other sports that move our bodies towards the ultimate target. These, like so many of your other simple yet powerful drills, help drive that home. In deep appreciation.
Really kind Todd thank you
Thank you Todd!
High handicap golfer (hcp 45) here. Watched this video during breakfest today. Tee time for 9 holes was 11:50 am. Though I give it a try at the range and what should I say: it worked perfectly! Without effort my irons went as far as always but with less effort. If I added the down throw motion you describe distance increased but consistency decreased as well. So have to work on that! But amazing lesson. Thank you Danny for sharing this. Extremly helpful. On the course I had my second best round ever using the effort less swing. What an easter present. Great content 🎉
That's great mate. Well done.
Nice! It's a great feeling, just remember to drill this feeling. It's so easy to hear another great tip and forget the basics. Hope you have a great season mate.
Brilliant Dirk! Well done 🙌
45 handicap?!?
So you shoot 140 consistently?
Every time I watch your videos I learn something new to try and it renews my desire to get out there and practice! The tip about bouncing the ball toward your target is so simple but it makes SO MUCH SENSE! Please keep these great videos coming!
Thank you Jared, appreciate the support 😁
Perhaps the best instructional golf video I've ever seen... thank you Danny!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Danny, I’m a keen observer of your videos. Quite simply, they are the best instruction on the net. I tried your tip of getting my ball under my left armpit at address and your tip of pretending to hit the shaft into the golf bag is BRILLIANT. Quite simply the best tip I’ve ever had. I’m an 11 handicap and finished birdie par, birdie birdie par today for a 38 points. It’s definitely down to your tips. Had four lessons recently but got more from your video. Thank you so much.
That’s wonderful to hear Tim
This is one of the best lessons I have ever had. It improved my ball striking significantly. I am getting better distance, accuracy, and pure contact. In fact, I did not feel tired after today's round, because I was not working so hard to hit the ball. Thanks a million, Danny!
Happy to help 😁
Thank You for the great lesson Danny. You make it look so easy and effortless.
Glad you like it John
Danny, great video! This is an area that I’ve been struggling with over the winter months. I’m getting better at swinging on target but this video is going to help me immensely! I’m excitingly looking forward to Tuesday when I’m able get back into the studio to practice this and see how it will help me. Thank you for your insight on this technique! I appreciate ya!
Look forward to hearing how you get on
Left the driving range today frustrated as I kept thinning and chunking all my iron shots.
Came home and found this video. Immediately started practicing the drills. Went into the backyard expecting to thin the ball but instead it flew over the fence and went at least 100 yards down the alley.
Thanks for these mental concepts. I’ve been too busy trying to hit the ball and not flow through the motion. The third step about bouncing the ball to the basket was helpful.
😂 love this
@@DanielMaudepriceless😂
Danny again another fantastic video. I have known for some time that my problem was focusing on hitting the "BALL" and this was ruining my game. I could not get this out of my head. Some swings I would even stop as soon as I hit the ball. Just last week I figured out a way to work past this by making about 100 full swings with no ball and then working the ball back in slowly. So I am goingnto use this method to keep working on my "target".
Thanks again Coach you are the Best on YT.
Glad to help 👍
Danny this is one of your best videos yet. I have shared this with my wife and know she will make mark improvement.
Thank you 😁
Absolutely fantastic video! As someone who's struggled with consistency in my golf swings, the tips and advice shared here were incredibly helpful. The insights on naturally creating a downward attack angle and maintaining an effortless swing were particularly enlightening. The simple trick of aligning my sternum directly over the ball was something I've never tried before, and I'm eager to incorporate these techniques into my next practice session. Thanks for sharing this valuable knowledge-I'm looking forward to seeing my improvement. Looking forward to more great content like this!
Thanks for the support
Yes! Hit the ball FORWARD. Most golfers definitely imagine the wrong intention. They’re either trying to hit DOWN AT the ball, which makes you too steep, and often over-the-top. Or…. They’re trying to hit the ball UP, which makes you bottom out behind the ball, making you hit it fat, or catching it on the upswing, and skulling it. No matter what club you have in your hands, set up to the ball and imagine that you’re trying to drive it low, and forward towards the target. The loft on the club will provide the up, even though you’re trying to drive it low. Also, with all your intent focused on hitting it FORWARD, you’ll naturally end up with your weight on your left side, and you’ll feel like you’re putting “pressure” into the back of the ball. This creates a very compressed, and powerful strike, and gets you through the ball, with a nice follow through. I’m telling you people, trying to hit the ball FORWARD will change your game forever. Great video, as always, Danny!
You have good advice, thanks for boiling it down for me. I think Arnold Palmer did exactly what you say above in your paragraph. I saw him drive it low and great momentum.
@@davewanamaker3690 Thanks, bro. Even though my intent is to drive it low, and forward, I have a slightly higher than average ball flight. Hitting the ball low, and forward is just a GREAT swing thought for strike, and getting through it. Hope it helps ya…
Thanks Jamies 😁
Great advice guys. I'm a newbie and have trouble trying to get my hips through on the downswing and always top the ball. Any advice here please?
"imagine that you’re trying to drive it low": This is super interesting to me, now that you say it. I seem to get so much loft (irritatingly so) when I'm trying to punch out from trees, as if trying to hit a low shot actually makes the ball go higher. I will experiment with this idea. Thank you!
Excellent Danny,simple,straightforward tuition
Awesome to hear Paul
You teach it so clearly that it makes me feel like I can teach it. So good!
Pleasure
Thank you Lincoln 😁
just started golfing a couple weeks ago and your content is the first i gravitated too. friends are already amazed by my quick improvements. i’ll be here watching your videos for a while. thanks a bunch danny.
Thanks so much for your support and feedback
Danny you are amazing at explaining and demonstrating what we need to do and I appreciate it. I will try it when I'm fit enough to practice again. Thank you 🙏🏌️⛳
Hope it works well for you Chris 👍
Yes, it's the start of a new season 🎉 and again, you come up with great drills.
Since I have been watching your golf lessons, in the last 4 years, I have dropped my handicap from 29 to 20 and have won 2 of the club championships.
For this, I thank you 👍👍🎉
That’s amazing Carl well done
Your last piece of advice is so interesting Danny. Yesterday I kept telling myself to turn towards the target and it helped a lot. I find that I naturally turn toward the target with a 9 iron chip shot from about 10 to 30 yards, but like you say, I tend to focus more on the ball than the target as the clubs and distance start getting longer, which significantly hampers my “swing.” Such great advice, as always!
Our movements are created by our target, being aware where we put our attention is very important
Thank you so much! I was in such a bad rut with my irons... everything I tried doing wasn't working and an hour before going to the golf sim I watched this video and it SAVED ME! I was able to hit my irons and driver pure! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Brilliant well done 🙌
I’ve watched many channels and hundreds of hours of golf instruction videos. You have a unique way of explaining theory around every topic that is extremely effective.
Thank you 😁
Love you videos Danny!
You make complicated things so understandable.
Thanks Jim 👍
This is pure gold. I’m learning so much from your easy to follow and remember guidelines. Thank you so much Danny.
Happy to help Saeedminaii 😁
Hey Danny! I love your videos! They helped my game so much! I’ve been playing golf for 2 months and have already noticed improvement, your videos are broken down brilliantly and they make sense. You’re the best RUclips golf channel! I have golf tryouts for my high school tomorrow, I’m gonna take everything I’ve learned from your videos and everything I’ve practiced with to my tryouts. Wish me luck and THANK YOU!
Thank you Cmole 😁 appreciate the support 🙌
Excellent tip on swinging with rib cage Danny. Immediate positive results. You are the best! ❤
@ek5419 thank you so much for your lovely comment. 🙏🏻
Amazingly simple way of describing the swing; totally different focus 😊
Glad you liked it Chris
Mate, This has been exactly what I've been trying to get right and after watching this, it makes way more sense and I can't wait to put this to practice!!
THANK YOU
Cheers mate
Glad it helped! 👍
Cheers from Brazil! Started playing last month and your videos are helping immensely
That’s wonderful to hear, keep up the good work
This is a perfect explanation of why we have flicky wrists at impact and cannot strike the ball consistently. We let the ball target override the target where we want the ball to end up. I can't wait to work with this for improving my inconsistencies. Thanks Danny...
Happy to help 👍
Brilliant, Danny! You’ve addressed the number one thing I’ve been struggling with. Can’t wait to get to the range and work on it. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Have fun
Thanks Scott 😁
Mm mm q@@DanielMaude
Thanks Danny, this session is gold for me. Step 3 has been my problem for many years.
Happy to help 😁
This makes sense for a short iron where its lined up in the middle of your stance, but what about a long iron where the ball is a bit further up? Your sternum would naturally be a bit behind the ball.
Love how this video connects Danny with the work of Zen Golf (forgot their new name).
Organic swing. Angles cannot be forced, we need to create the conditions for them to flourish. Never lose sight of the real target. Let your body get you there. Foremost, don't get in the way of your own speed creation.
Mesmerized by this video. So simple. So powerful.
Thank you.
This may have been the best golf video I've ever seen
Happy to help Christopher
Thanks Danny, the forward momentum of the body - focusing on directing the ball forward towards target as opposed to trying so hard to strike the ball that's in front of you. This concept really helped me start getting the weight forward with continued rotation through the swing, with the right forward-shaffling. So much that it dramatically changed my results. I recommend any newer golfers struggling with ball striking to really focus on this aspect.
DANNY IT WORKED!!! I’m an 8 hdcp but have been struggling with flicking and losing distance. You were saying the exact swing thoughts that I was having and causing frustration. I just left the range after hitting a bucket of balls. They rib cage thought made the balls fly further, straighter and with such little effort and removed the tension from my hands and arms. Thank you!
Brilliant well done 🙌
Looks great. I will work on this. I like things simple Danny. You make it simple . That’s why I think your an outstanding instructor
That’s really kind thank you
Great video Danny. You connect all the dots and make it very understandable and easy. Thanks!
Really happy to help Robert
This is a great instruction Danny! Thnx ! All youre instructions are very simple to understand!!
Glad it was helpful Martin!
This is so good. I’m going to work on this today.
Have fun Tom
I"m back Danny. You are my go to guy when I am lost on my swing after 8 months of not playing golf. And it helps a lot. Thanks.
Happy to help 😁
I've been watching way to many golf videos as I'm brand new ... this is #1 on how to swing so far.
Thanks for the support
I’ve been watching golf instructions on youtube for well over 10 years across many instructors, countries/languages, but that ball bounce forward is new and brilliant!
I really love this simplicity and feel this gives
Just a fantastic lesson Danny! My wife is just taking up the game (she must not have enough aggravation in her life, LOL) so this is a must watch for her as she has not grasped the concept of rotating her rib cage yet. Also great for me because even tho I've played now for 53 years....I've lost some flexibility and distance being 65yrs old. Thank You!
Magnificent drill Mr Danny Maude I will take this video to practice range and watch before I hit a single ball every time ⛳️
Have fun
Thank you Leroy 😁
This is the best video I have seen that connects the thoughts of downward strike , target focus and tempo. I hope it works
Thank you Don!
A wonderful way to strike irons pure.Down and forward. Thank you Danny
Glad you enjoyed it
Danny is definitely the best instructor on line by far ❤
Thanks so much for the support Ronald
Seriously impressed with how you explain this in a easy to understand way. Thank you
Happy to help Dga!
Fabulous clarity as always. Need to add this to the library and work on this.
Wonderful! 🙏
I did the same thing 😅
Next level advice. Simple, yet effective. Thank you.
Thank you 😁👍
Loving the videos the connection of the body speed to arm speed makes strike so sweet many thanks
Thanks Jon
Danny
Just finished your simple golf drills and I feel like I learning something new each time.
I decided to swing easier to gain control and focus on flow of contact from beginning to end. I also found myself stiff on the first 3 holes and as I continued I loosened up. My rib cage was moving or my upper body was moving better and I was able to make better consistent contact to the way your drill showed. I am a senior so my flexibility appears as the game progresses. :)
thank you Danny
Well done Ralph, thanks for the support 👍
love it. Simple feels ... so much easier than mechanical positioning.
Absolutely
Amazing Coaching Danny!
Im getting back into the Game after 10 years and really appreciate your Style of Teaching.
It seems simple, but so are the Best Swings.
Great lesson again. The away target is one I've been working on. Swinging down that line--staying on plane, i guess--is one I am trying to be more consistent about. Thanks!
I am a beginner and I included the tips from this video into my set-up routine. Came here to say, my iron swing improved from 70 to 100m. There is still so much I am not aware of, but this improvement was a satisfying experience. Thank you, Danny!
Happy to help 😁
I just wanted to say Thanks for all your videos! They have improved my golf game soooooo much! Thanks!
Very kind thank you Scott!
Thanks Danny you’re the best! Great video. I’m playing today and tomorrow in Myrtle beach and I’ll be sure to have these tips in mind when I get over top that ball.
Sounds amazing
Danny explains it so simply, he makes it look so simple, but it is still hard to do.
M Dillon, Perth Western Australia
@michaeldillon2681 keep practicing. Keep me updated on how you are getting on 🙏🏻
I am a (very) senior golfer and this year I really lost my way. This simple procedure- chest/ball/chest really works. Everything else seems to fall into place naturally. Couldn’t believe it! I can hit decent shots again with my 3/4 swing! Don’t have to worry about what the hands are doing- it just happens. Thanks Danny.
Thank you Danny! This is perhaps the best explanation of the proper mechanics and how to stitch them together. I always feel like I am stealing a golf lesson when I watch your videos. 🙏
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback and support 😁
Thank you for this video! Irons have been my worst part since focusing on keeping my driver in bounds. I tend to have a mental roadblock, because I feel like if I contact the ground, I'm going to just dig my club in and chunk the hell out of it. So lots of times, I top and flub then badly. Definitely going to work on these. Especially number 3 because I feel like having my focus elsewhere will help my issues for sure
Love to hear how you get on Michael
Great video Danny as always. So simple. Can't wait to put it into action tomorrow.
Must come down for a lesson sometime
All the best Bruce
Hi Danny been following your advice and videos on improving my ball striking having an alignment stick 1 1/2 club heads behind the ball and ball back in my stance level with the centre of my chest with hands opposite left thigh, 0:11 however could not get the club head square at impact kept feeling i was moving forward ie getting way in front, sliding really, until i splayed my left foot open to allow me to turn my left hip up and back is that something you would recommend
I’ve been a fan. But this episode! Explains so much. Especially #2. Swinging freely. I get so stiff and locked up - try controlling the club and steer it, so stiff.
Thank you!
Another excellent video! Danny, you cont to make golf easier & easier. The key is correct setup & body turn! Yes, that simple & so important for a perfect ball strike CONSISTENTLY
Thank you!
Thanks danny, i started playing this year, and im already down to a 26 handicap. By far the best coach on RUclips. I still have some work, but thanks again!
Edit 19.4 handicap now
That’s amazing Jean, well done
This lesson is absolutely mint, I’ve been putting this into practice and works like a dream. Thanks so much Danny, simply the best teacher on YT by a long shot (pardon the golf pun)
Thank you! Appreciate the support 😁
Absolutely brilliant video. Cant wait to try this on the range now.
Hope you enjoy it Danny
Hi Danny, Struggled yesterday with my irons. Timing was out. This lesson might help me fix the things I was doing wrong. I did however use the putting technique from your previous video to chip and it worked well. Happy easter to you and your family
The step two instruction to “move the rib cage around and back, and then to unwind it” really resonated with me for some reason. I was told to “turn my shoulders” by my instructor for years back in the mis 2000’s but my turn was ultimately often fake. After being out of the game for past six years, I’m getting my lag back, my clubhead and ball speed is coming back up to pre-70 yr old levels (according to my SkyTrak) and my strike, shot shape, and distance bounced back almost instantly. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your content. Really happy with these results. Cheers…
Thanks for taking the time to comment happy to help 😁
Great Lesson- Structured, Simple, Strategic! Thanks 👏 ⛳️
@themillarcraig thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Such a shame I love so far away from you! Would love an in person lesson with you, cant get enough of these vids. Started golf again last year and recently won a set of TM stealth 2s and the addiction has most certainly set in!
Favourite golf coach on youtube BY FAR!
Keep them coming Danny.
Thank you appreciate the support 😁
Really good Danny. I'm glad you enjoyed meeting Pete Cowen...but this is a far better explanation for most of us than all that 'spinning the forearm down' stuff!!
This is fantastic. I never really compressed the ball when I was young. I figured it out at about 25. Injury stopped me playing at 27. But 30 years later I still follow golf on RUclips and I really wish that I had seen this lesson when I was a kid. Wonderfully explained 🤗
@eoghanart6439 thank you so much. Really pleased you enjoyed it. Enjoy practicing. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are getting on 🙏🏻
@@DanielMaude it is nice watching you teaching clients. It would be interesting watching you give lessons to amateurs and influencers. Stephen Henry, footballers etc who have a passion for golf ⛳
Your lessons are becoming more nuanced, Danny. Looking forward to "drawing out the mechanics" at the range this weekend. Where do you get this stuff - chatGPT? But point well taken. Another great above-average lesson.
I’ve a huge passion for understanding HOW people learn
Two targets! A great concept. I will be taking this on board. Many thanks Danny.
Danny another great lesson with a key word for me - rib cage - I try to get the shoulders turning over the ball but the rib cage move, back and up and also on the follow-through will be golden for me! Will take this to the range to work on these moves! Another gem from you Danny - thanks!
Thanks John glad you liked the video 👍
Seriously that’s the best I’ve heard anyone explain this. Makes so much sense. Mind Dan is the best around when it comes to tutorials. Absolutely brilliant 👍👍⛳️⛳️
Very kind thank you 😁
Using the correct words is really helpful, When you said move your rib cage it was a lightbulb moment . Previously thought about retracting right shoulder on the take away but I was inconsistent . Moving the rib cage was the answer . Thank you so much . Words are powerful 🎉

Awesome lesson,Danny,You Sir are the only one l watch and listen to on You Tube because DANNY YOU ARE DEFINITELY THE VERY BEST and l thank you for all your help and your lessons!! Be Safe Sir!!!
Thank you Joseph!
This is so good and simple. I played it over and over at the range and just kept grooving the movements and the shots are pure, swing is relaxed and my mind is at ease. Like washing your hair - wet, lather, rinse, repeat. Thx from NE Ohio USA!! 😎
@lank.2245 that’s great. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, it really does mean a lot 🙏🏻
appreciate you a ton ! I got in my head last week and this video fixed me from topping the irons
Well done, happy to help!
First video of yours I have seen. Very informative and easy to follow. Will definitely be tuning in for more!
Thank you! Happy to help 👍
wow. This is so smart. I can't wait to try this. I just started practicing with a net, with an iron, & was topping the ball some of the time. So I waited to do more until finding a good swing to practice. THIS is it. I'm so glad I found this video. Thanks. I'm trying this tonight.
