The great Raymond Floyd also described chipping as "putting with loft ". That thought has helped me a great deal over the years. Keep it up Danny. The video length is what it a real lesson would be like. It covers different lies and clubs. Excellent
A friend and I have been watching your videos for many months now. We really enjoy them and have learned so much from you. I watched this video yesterday. Today, after kind of blading a shot over the green, I chipped in for a birdie from behind a green, up hill about 3' to the green in about 5" of rough exactly as you describe here. The pin was about 25' down the hill in the middle of the green. It went up in the air so perfect! Landed just on the green and rolled straight down into the hole! It was the most beautiful shot I have hit in my 30 years of golfing. Even better than my only hole in one! I had an audience up on the veranda and they all applauded! My partner had hit a great shot to the green, but sadly missed his birdie putt! Oh well. A great time was had by all and I just wanted to thank you for your great videos!
What I really like about this lesson is how it builds upon another lesson you released a few weeks back. Trying to learn something new every week is difficult and I appreciate reinforcing core techniques for consistency.
Thank you for a clear, easy to follow, very helpful video. Leo emphasised that we CAN DO IT . Danny's ideas are suitable for average golfers as well as low handicap players.
I watch a lot of golfing videos, yours is the only one I'll follow for instruction! If I open another creators video and it's an instructional, no thanks I'll stick with Danny!😁
Putting with loft is so simple yet so effective. I watched the video and went out in back yard and couldn't hardly believe how easy and effective it was. Thanks for the get lesson.

One of the best short game videos I’ve watched! You’ve created a simple motion, and by adding your camera man into the video made the video more relatable! Seeing him blade a ball over the green and then you fix him is inspiring and give me confidence that I can go out and hit better chip shots with this knowledge next time I’m playing. Thank you Danny! Danny your content is just a breath of fresh air. Nothing over complicated but effective & easy to follow. Yes we have to put some practice in to improve and my short game is terrible. But I'm going to practice this method thank you so much for all the great content.
Read my mind, Danny! I’ve been watching your older chipping videos for the past few weeks to start the season. I was specifically looking one for around the green - especially those close, short shots (#3 in this video) and you delivered as always! Thanks for all you do!
Can’t wait to give this fabulous drill a go. I’m 58 years old playing off mid single figs with an old style approach to chipping. It simply doesn’t work for me any more so need to work on developing a more bounce orientated chipping action. I also heard Tommy Fleetwood mention “putting with loft” which makes sense to me. Off to the practise green after lunch. Thanks for another wonderful and playable session Danny! You’re the bizz!
Ok, finally subscribed after watching 50 of your vids. I shot low-80s for years, then my game fell apart, and I've lost sight of so many of these basics. Big golf trip in 2 weeks...gotta practice!
I have been using the putting technique for my chipping and I find it very effective. Liam did well and hopefully he gained confidence from your tips. As always great content Danny.
All your instruction has been super helpful. Here’s a video idea. How to get back in the swing of things, now that the golf season is back. How to prepare for that first round of the year. Cheers 😊
Well done Leo, that's a lot of pressure on camera for anyone let alone a part time golfer, staying loose would be tough. Danny Maude has to be the best golf coaching channel on youtube.

When chipping like that I always increase the weight on my left leg. Danny yesterday at the driving range I watched these young guys watching videos on their cell phones then practicing what the had seen. I looked at their cell phones and they were watching your lessons. This would be common in the UK but it was in Indonesia. So from 4 young guys in Indonesia, thank you.
Great video Dan . I’ve saved so many shots getting up and down keeping the handle up toe down chip and running around the greens with this putting action .
Danny you keep coming with these great lessons. Thanks for all you do for us Hackers. Funny thing I played with a friend that I play a lot with and he made a comment to me on how much my short game has improved. Testament to what i have learned in your video lessons. Thanks for everything.
I must have pre-empted this video Danny as that was exactly the way I was chipping around the greens first thing this morning. Makes total sense. Great teaching as usual.
Great lesson. I taught my playing partner, a 23hcp, to chip this way and it’s transformed his short game. He used to always pull a 60 and have this long wristy swing usually resulting in a massive thin or fat. Now he’s giving himself a decent putt 90% of the time. Must save him 5-6 shots a round at least.
Started using 8 iron after this video - 25% in air 75% run out. Nearly holed out 3 times in 2 rounds - virtually all others finished within the dustbin lid. What a tip - thanks
Love this, showing a lesson with various situations off the green. Perhaps you could do the same with approach shots within 100 yards in varying degrees of rough. Thanks, Danny and to Leo.
The fish flap technique works! I used to do that, then people told me, swing with your body only. Glad you mention about it, tried out today at the range, I got my touch back.
Danny- I noticed at the beginning of the video up to around the six minute mark your student had a very poor grip with hands separated which inhibits the natural hinging action of the wrists. Then after your comment about his club action being too stiff his grip changed to a much better one with trail hand thumb pad up higher over the lead thumb which is how the Vardon-style grip works best. Did you suggest off camera that he change the grip? It’s worth mentioning I think because the most fundamental problem beginning and infrequent golfers have is with grip. I played infrequently for twenty-some years with a poor grip until I bought one of those sort weighted clubs with a moulded grip forcing my hands into the ideal “Vardon” overlap of the thumbs which is what I discovered allows the two hands to function like a door hinge with the “pin” of the hinge located at the wrist joint. It allows the golfer to turn the club 180° with just the wrists without the momentum acting on the mass in the club head trying to pull the hands and butt of the club out towards the ball as it turns over. Another advantage I discovered with that short weighted practice club was that because it hung freely and felt heavier than a normal club it exaggerated the feel of how to club turned over in the hand through impact when the hands were together creating the ideal hinging acton versus when the trail hand is placed too low as your student did in the first five minutes. The exercises I did with the training club on a daily basis several times a day finally trained my brain to grip the club for that ideal ‘hinge on a pin’ action through impact into the finish and that greatly improved my ball striking, especially in the short game. I still use that grip trainer on a regular basis to remind myself of what a well balanced turning over the club should feel like.
Thanks as always Danny, the term hit the golf ball while discussing the short game should be outlawed .. the word "gather" is perfect! and you describe it that way!
Fantastic video Danny! My poor chipping costs me lots of strokes per round. I was going to try Paul Runyon's Rule of 12 to improve it, but today's video will serve me better I think, especially when it comes to nestled lies. Thanks again Danny!
Danny your student was awesome, great video, l struggle with my sixty degree wedge, tend hit with the leading edge, trying to use the bounce. When do you stand closer to the ball and use the toe up method?. You are the best instructor on the planet.
Gonna try and get my nephew to follow this channel .. hes what id call long (yrs ) term beginner (not unlike myself with decades😜 ) whos finally trying to improve over the last yr..and he has , mostly by gear and watching the tour pros ,and what his friemds tell him ..🤷🏼♂️ hes got some very classic ideas we all have had at one point or another …like around the green you have to really lob /flop it up to green everytime ..i tried explaining how not to to him and he says the pros flop it so it has to be the right way …then says he really doesnt watch to much of the tour after i tell him no they only do that when short sided or going over an obstacle (how theres a correct shot choice/type for each situation) but he just writes me off as playing like a “cheater “ or taking the wimpy way out or something ..lol …which i have to admit a long while back i use to think this way for a hot second too 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️… he sees me doing much better around the greens , but im still a work in progress so he is not convinced…maybe Danny can get through to him …which , maybe will get him oUt scoring me…so maybe i shouldnt cue him to Danny 😜 lol
Also love the way you say “ i believe …” at the end ..it says yes , you can do it other ways ,but this is simplest for you and your students to,learn and implement ..unlike some of the other youtube “pros” who claim it’s their way or you’re doing it wrong …class act Danny!
@vicpnut1 thank you so much for your message. If you ask your son to follow my channel and watch my videos I would love to get some feedback from him 🙏🏻
Good vidéo as usual Danny. 2 questions, (1) should the length of the backswing be similar to a putt of the same distance ? and (2) do you start the backswing with the shoulders or the arms ? Thank you
Very good idea to do this, as you said very relatable. When Leo said, "Well, I'm out," I totally related with that, we would both have been delighted with that shot. 🤣 If you read this, please can you do one about getting out of really gnarly, long ruff.
Hi Danny great video but need help hitting my eleven hybrid clubs my main trouble is not sure where the ball should be at the bottom of the stroke I have a3-4-5-6-7-8 and cobra 5wood can you help me please
Would you use a putter grip for these shots, like you suggested in your other video? Or a normal iron grip but just using a putter motion for the swing? Thank you.
I tried this technique today and didn't miss any chips/pitches. It also appears to have fixed an issue I was having with hitting a chip or pitch off to the right. With my previous technique my good chips or pitches were pulled left. Didn't have either issue today. Also, I do like this format for the weekly video.
Hi Danny, Great tips to improve chipping. Can you please tell how to chip a ball on an upward & downward lie. There is a lot of restrictions on the club movement Thank you

The fish flap technique works! I used to do that, then people told me, swing with your body only. Glad you mention about it, tried out today at the range, I got my touch back.
Well done happy to help 😁
This is a good video, feels like a golf lesson, and I’m just watching along
@_baller thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Hi Danny, really enjoy the golfing instruction videos
@TheBldcplacs thank you 🙏🏻
great video can't wait to try this Danny, thanks
All the best Jim
Thank-you Danny. Great chipping lesson. Will take this to the course.
Thanks as always Danny, the term hit the golf ball while discussing the short game should be outlawed .. the word "gather" is perfect! and you describe it that way!
Thank you Luzz!
The best golf videos on RUclips !!
@johnadams507 thank you for your lovely comment. I really do appreciate it 🙏🏻
Fantastic video Danny! My poor chipping costs me lots of strokes per round. I was going to try Paul Runyon's Rule of 12 to improve it, but today's video will serve me better I think, especially when it comes to nestled lies. Thanks again Danny!
@mike92869 thank you. Really pleased you enjoyed the video 🙏🏻
Danny your student was awesome, great video, l struggle with my sixty degree wedge, tend hit with the leading edge, trying to use the bounce. When do you stand closer to the ball and use the toe up method?. You are the best instructor on the planet.
Great lesson that keeps it effective but yet simple to learn and execute. Contrary to the chipping technique of the „other“ Dan 😉
@FatihPekbas thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
love the new vids with avg golfers great stuff danny
Thank you!
Wow! Great tips! Thanks so much!
Thank you Marian! Appreciate the support!
Perfect timing! Just what I needed!
@gordy8850 you are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you 🙏🏻
Gonna try and get my nephew to follow this channel .. hes what id call long (yrs ) term beginner (not unlike myself with decades😜 ) whos finally trying to improve over the last yr..and he has , mostly by gear and watching the tour pros ,and what his friemds tell him ..🤷🏼♂️ hes got some very classic ideas we all have had at one point or another …like around the green you have to really lob /flop it up to green everytime ..i tried explaining how not to to him and he says the pros flop it so it has to be the right way …then says he really doesnt watch to much of the tour after i tell him no they only do that when short sided or going over an obstacle (how theres a correct shot choice/type for each situation) but he just writes me off as playing like a “cheater “ or taking the wimpy way out or something ..lol …which i have to admit a long while back i use to think this way for a hot second too 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️… he sees me doing much better around the greens , but im still a work in progress so he is not convinced…maybe Danny can get through to him …which , maybe will get him oUt scoring me…so maybe i shouldnt cue him to Danny 😜 lol
If you ask your son to follow my channel and watch my videos I would love to get some feedback from him 🙏🏻
@vicpnut1 thank you so much. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
Well done - using a mate was a great way to demo. Thank you as always❤🇨🇦😁
@Iko0025 you are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you 🙏🏻
Love your videos and your teachings. Are you using the same grip as you would with your irons?
Good vidéo as usual Danny.
2 questions, (1) should the length of the backswing be similar to a putt of the same distance ? and (2) do you start the backswing with the shoulders or the arms ?
Thank you
beautiful lesson Danny
Glad you liked it Danny
Good morning, top video as usual Danny 🏌️⛳️
Thank you Justin
Thank you Danny. 😊
You are very welcome
Looks very easy to execute. What if anything would you do differently for a very tight lie as we have almost always in south Florida?
Hi Sandra, i would make sure to simply strike the ball first then the tight lies don’t really matter
@@DanielMaude thank you so much! Will give that a try!
Very good idea to do this, as you said very relatable. When Leo said, "Well, I'm out," I totally related with that, we would both have been delighted with that shot. 🤣 If you read this, please can you do one about getting out of really gnarly, long ruff.
Hi Danny great video but need help hitting my eleven hybrid clubs my main trouble is not sure where the ball should be at the bottom of the stroke I have a3-4-5-6-7-8 and cobra 5wood can you help me please
love it, simple and effective
Takk!
Thank you really appreciate the support.
Would you use a putter grip for these shots, like you suggested in your other video? Or a normal iron grip but just using a putter motion for the swing?
Thank you.
Great video Dan 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Great fundamentals!! ⛳️🏌🏻♂️
@phildieter6873 thank you 🙏🏻
I tried this technique today and didn't miss any chips/pitches. It also appears to have fixed an issue I was having with hitting a chip or pitch off to the right. With my previous technique my good chips or pitches were pulled left. Didn't have either issue today. Also, I do like this format for the weekly video.
Brilliant Paul well done, thanks for the feedback 👍
So on the buried lie uphill, with the 56 degree, what bounce are you looking for?
Quick question please Danny (or anyone?!) Grip? Should we be using the putting grip or usual grip? TIA 😊
You can certainly use it for the low flighted chips
Excellent video Danny.
@tonygreen9033 thank you so much 🙏🏻
Hi Danny,
Great tips to improve chipping.
Can you please tell how to chip a ball on an upward & downward lie. There is a lot of restrictions on the club movement
Thank you

@@DanielMaude Thanks Danny. Great inputs
Will try on course the next time
Played yesterday and had my driver working but I kept leaving my irons short and off the green and suddenly I had no confidence with chipping (which is unusual for me). Great timing on the video for a refresh!
@MrGorillaspam really pleased you enjoyed the video which will hopefully help you in your next game. Thank you 🙏🏻
haha, anywhere on to the green, he puts it short!! If you can help, him, you can help me! thanks man, love the content!
Awesome video Danny!
@dwaynedavis5257 thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Officially in the Danny Maude fan club. I was laying in bed not wanting to get up when I suddenly realized it’s Saturday and I jumped up to watch a Danny Maude golf video 😊
@rw_golf6387 thank you so much for your comment. I really do appreciate it 🙏🏻
