I watch every Saturday yet don't get overwhelmed with swing thoughts because you always keep it simple. More importantly, these tips work. Thanks again Danny.
Oh my God! Danny, you have just blown my mind. For the past few pitch 'n' putt sessions, I've really been wondering why, even on my good shots, I keep striking the ball so low on the club, not thinning, but on that fourth or fifth groove. Now you're telling me that's what I'm meant to be doing?! Wow, okay, that must be why when I really focus on the middle of the club, I end up with these really "scoopy" shots. Or digging the leading edge into the ground and getting a sort of punch-chip. I haven't even watched the last few minutes, that zinger just stopped me in my tracks. Thanks again, Danny.
Your pitching and chipping lessons have improved my short game so much. I have to adjust the club choice for distance, since I'm a lady, but now I'm always on the green or just off it. A huge improvement for me. I was a power swinger and now I'm a calm swinger on to the green.
Another great video Danny. What I like is the simplicity of your lessons. Many golfers, including myself tend to worry how to play this type of shot, but your advice takes away the anxiety and enables me to play these chip shots with more confidence. Thank you once again.
As always thanks Danny, It took me 20 years to figure that out! I hope everyone appreciates this information! it's a great reinforcement! for pitching and chipping
Pitching from 50 to 80 yards is the biggest hole in my game. I'm looking looking for a pitch and one put to make par. Pitch and two puts is a rare success. Most common is to miss the green with the pitch, another stroke to get to the green from a really difficult chip or bunker shot plus two puts leaving with me yet another double bogie. I've tried the clock system but the key issue I have is anxiety about uncertainty which leads to snatched shots or slow duffs. So everything you say in this video is a source of hope. Stop the mechanics and build the feel. Playing squash and badminton years ago, one of my point winning shots was the drop shot - all feel. So as you suggest I'll redevelop that lost skill for golf. Thanks for this reminder.
This video is for advanced players its not easy. I do this instead. I just narrow my stance more and more and choke down on club more and more as I get closer to the pin. Backswing also shortens naturally, you just dont feel like swinging hard once you are more and more narrow and gripping down. Otherwise my swing is same as full one. And the less I think about it, with this simple setup, the feel takes over and results in solid shots. Just to give an idea, my feet get close like his only when I am around the green inside 30 yards for chipping. Also he doesnt choke down which I think isnt easy for average golfers.
Well I was misunderstood then. When I say all summer, I just mean my usual once a week session would be either range or short practice area which means thats 2-3 times a month. I went 1 once a week max to short practice. Thats how it is for your casual amateur who works. And it is advanced in that its another type of swing to add to the bag. Maybe its easy for you who does this for a living but its not easy for casual like me.
From 50 to 80 yards you're not going to get up and down very often. The best in the world are not getting up and down from that distance very often. I've improved a lot since I started using less loft to pitch with, pw or gw rather than 56° just try to get it on the green close enough to 2 putt. You'll make the odd putt from distance and get the odd one really close. I shoot around the 90 mark and can shoot mod 80s at times and I barely hit greens in reg.
Hi Danny, brings back a lot of memorys watching you practice, I haven't played for about 30 years but you are giving me inspriation to get out there again. Chgipping and Pitching all comes down to FEEL without the FEEL for the Short Game Golf will be a real Struggle. Love it
@@DanielMaude Yes, I started playing in 1974 aged 12 with my brother and father, loved it. Got down to a 7 handicap back in the day not so supple these days though. Technology has moved on so far these days with the equipment even Swing Analysis and Range Finders. I'll have to try my local Driving Range, to see if my body is still up to it today, I'll let you know how it goes.
Just won low gross in my golf league this week, thanks to YOU Danny! I’ve learned so much from your lessons that I feel like I’m finally swinging correctly after all these years - THANK YOU!❤️
Enjoy how you always tell what club you have. So many instructors fail to mention which club they are using from the distance. Thanks friend!!!!!! Keep up the excellent work!
On these kind of shots, too often I find myself taking a huge divot and of course, coming up short of the target. Your instruction gives me hope that I will correct this mistake, swing easier, hit the ball right on the club face and allow the motion to complete a good shot. Thanks Danny I’ll be teying this tomorrow on the coirse !
Thanks Danny, another great practical video. I was having issues with hitting my irons this week so I revisited one of your previous videos and hey presto problem solved. It’s like having access to a golfer’s reference library, amazing resource 🙏⛳️
Great video. I’m decent at chipping and pitching and find feeling the shot works best for me. Another great example of your mantra of functional swing. Do what works for you. Overthinking messes us all up.
You're a great teacher Danny. "Calmness" - perfectly put. A relatively gentle but still fully-committed swing. As per flop shots, for example. Easier said than done of course! - especially under pressure...
1.26 million views Danny!! Well done!!! It seems as though I’m not the only one who thinks you’re the best teacher (including great guy), on the internet!! Congratulations many times over. Loved this video too by the way, it really makes sense. I’ve struggled with this for years. Like I’ve said before, it’s too bad I couldn’t watch you 30 years ago.
Hogan said the same thing about striking it on a certain groove. Of course he never missed a green, but still. Great video Danny, as always. Thank you.
thanks coach...sometimes i get in my head too much with short chips...great thought process to make it easier...now i just need to work on better control for my 100-200 yard shots
I really like these videos with things you can take directly to the course. I would rather play than practice. This distance, around 50 yards, has been my nemesis lately, I think these tips will help.
Nice swing thoughts and practice tips. Love the “Calmness” thought. So many tend to get quick and jerky. Just think of Fred Couples or Ernie Els tempo…Also love the clip the turf drill. Great stuff.
Just want to thank you for all the excellent tutorials…as you get older in life it helps having something you can still be active without getting discouraged.
Hi Danny. I don't do calm when chipping or pitching for this sort of distance! But will now practice this 'calm' method. Seems so simple while I tend to complicate the action. Thanks again Danny.
Great video as always! Can you please share with me when I'm suppose to hinge my hands. Many trainers of mine over MANY years have different opinions on when to hinge my hands but none of them have worked for me. I'm a senior golfer with chronic pain in my back, neck and elsewhere. I love to play golf but I'm at an infliction point whether or not I can continue to play due to my poor play. I've watched everyone of your videos and have learned a lot but my game is in a major setback mode presently. Thank you very much!
Thx Danny. It seems to me that working on this aspect of the game would lend itself nicely to establishing swing rhythm. If you agree, maybe a future episode that would take this week’s lesson and build upon it for full swing rhythm?
Great stuff Danny! I don’t use the clock system either but my short game really improved once I practiced how far all my wedges flew from an easy, connected rib/chest high swing. Once I figured that out, it was simply a matter of pulling the right club for the right distance. Easy Peasy!
Love your videos and just wanted to say thank you, they’re really helping me to play the game and enjoy it so much more with growing confidence, as I say - thank you so much 🙌🏻
Thanks Danny , my wedge play for a long time has been poor , today actually used it with confidence , a couple more rounds and l'm sure its going to be great , just getting used to distances , the ball striking is amazing , thanks again .
Love this video & excellent instruction...I love what was said about advice you can take to the course. I too find myself with limited practice time, so this video was perfect for my needs. Thank you.
This for my practice session tomorrow 👍🏻 Want to try and lose the feeling of hitting the ball hard from inside 80 yards and to do this, will try taking more club. 80 yards for me is a pretty full 52* so might try an easy PW. Thanks !
Great tips and awesome video, Danny!! Love the cool new golf ball closeup shots! You've helped me improve my game so much that I finally beat my friends. Thank you, Danny!!!
Love this vid! Short game has always been a strong part of my game, but a lot of it came from choking down low and feel. Now that I understand what you've shared, I'm feeling even more confident, and possibly don't have to crouch and use even less physical effort. Can't wait to take this to the range and then the course. Cheers
As always just great content think most of use make things harder when it comes to chipping; Just purchased a training mat to practice. Just 20-30 mins a day will transform your chipping & lower your score. Thank you Danny.
Hi Danny, great instructions. This is the approach I have been using for years (sometimes successfully lol) I wish more experts would explain how to practice at the range. I see guys taking their whole bag and hitting every club randomly. I usually take only 1 or 2 clubs max and I practice a specific thing each time.
Love these videos as explains basics so well and simply. On different slopes and ball above feet etc do we just adjust our shoulders and spine please? Thanks, Danny.
This is the weakest part of my game. As soon as the sun comes up here in a couple of hours, I'm off to the park to get to work on it, thanks to your tips. Thanks Danny.
My bounce is what is aimed at the front divot, the closer to the face toe means less spin. Trajectory is influenced by ball position on ground, and body angle, tip or not but fixed. Seems to work for all ground iron shots, even 1 iron..😊 Very shorts shots with height and/or spin, splash sand or flop are easier with bounce contact under the ball.
Hi Danny, I’ve been playing Golf for a number of years but I had stopped playing for a few years due to a mean ex wife. Now i’ve moved on and started playing again but I lost my touch around the greens especially pitching and no matter what I did I couldn’t find it again. Then I saw this video and immediately realised what was wrong, short swing, snatchy, and flipppy 🤮 once I implemented a longer swing with a bit of finesse it all came back and felt super comfortable. I just wanted to tell you how much I truly love and learn from you and your lessons!! This 50 something really thanks you!! You don't know how much. I want a private lesson from you, can you send me info plz on that. Thanks for how much you've improved my game!
I think that's my problem. I'm anything but calm. Tense and terrified would be a more accurate description. I guess is practice practice and more practice. Thanks Danny.
Great video Danny - i seem to have an issue with shanking creeping into to my shots around the greens - some tips to prevent this would be great for a future video
The simplest thing to do at first is to focus on hitting the centre of the the club. I know that seems over simplistic but place an alignment stick or club in front of the ball pointing directly at the target. Now simply aim to hit the ball with a square face out of the centre
Spray the face with foot powder spray to see if you are hitting it off the toe or the heel. Then simply give yourself the task to hit the centre of the club face. Just like many others sports your body will learn to figure out how to hit the centre
Posture is super important on these little shots, don't rush to admire the results, keep your posture thru impact. Personally, I like to stand open on these "tweener" shots.
Think they are fine. Limited because they really only produce one flight with little spin but they are fine if you just want the ball to pop up and release
What bounce should you use please Danny? Here in Australia we can go from hitting off ground that's like concrete to like hitting off jelly within four feet of the same green. I never know whether it's the amount of grass the ball is in that should determine the bounce or whether it's the hardness of the ground under it??
I smash a peg in the ground to practice my strike. Small target. You get used to scraping the top of the tee. Eventually you set the ball down and you know exactly where your low point will be.
I will pay closer attention to my shots of the distance covered here because it's been potluck with me so far as to whether I get the club under the ball to give it any loft. Weight over the lead leg is an issue.
Hi Danny, great video - thanks. I assume you don't read comments from older videos so I hope I can get your attention here. You released a really good video on August 19th labeled "World's #1 Coach Reveals EASIEST Way To Hit Driver Straight" - can you elaborate on that downwards movement and perhaps talk a little bit about the sequence with iron shots as well? That video really resonated with me, and I've looked through your other videos, but you don't seem to talk too much about it elsewhere. I know you talk a lot about the 45 degree arc, but the downwards motion with arms, combined with a pivot did wonders for my swing. I hope you can make a future video about it. Cheers
@@DanielMaude I just wonder if that type of thinking (lifting arms, splashing the paint etc) can be applied to iron shots as well? I just enjoyed that specific video and the swing thought of firing the arms down and then "splashing the paint" resonated with my driver swing - I'm looking for something similar for iron swings as well
As we have now gone on the summer course, im not realy able to hit most greens in regulation😢old age as shackled me. Like most seniors i need to chip it well to boogy the hole at worst or its the dreded double. I have a nasty habit of, on my backswing pulling my right arm in to may body result a shank😢 now i have had 50 years of no real problems but now, i stand over a pitch or chip terrified about the result!! This might just be the answer, ether that or chip one handed 😂
Hi Jody she had to have an operation on her toe after a running accident so hasn’t players for almost 2 years. She’s been asking me recently that she would like to get started again

Best instructions on pitching. True to the caption
" What nobody tells you about,..."
Thanks so much for the support
My bounce is what is aimed at the front divot, the closer to the face toe means less spin. Trajectory is influenced by ball position on ground, and body angle, tip or not but fixed.
Seems to work for all ground iron shots, even 1 iron..😊
Very shorts shots with height and/or spin, splash sand or flop are easier with bounce contact under the ball.
Terry Cork
As I have said before this is what I really need. I lose shots around the green.
Love to hear how you get on Terry. How’s everything going?
Great stuff Danny!! Thanks!
My pleasure!

Well done Danny 👏 😊
Thank you Roy

It’s is certainly practice but use these tips to measure and give your practice feedback
Very Very good Master class 😮

Spray the face with foot powder spray to see if you are hitting it off the toe or the heel. Then simply give yourself the task to hit the centre of the club face.
Just like many others sports your body will learn to figure out how to hit the centre
Hi Danny, great video as always! I’d love to see a video that talks about head dipping in the backswing and some tips! Thank you!

Danny… can you do a video on uphill and downhill lies. The downhill lies especially kill me on the course 😅… thank you for the content!
Absolutely Matt
Posture is super important on these little shots, don't rush to admire the results, keep your posture thru impact. Personally, I like to stand open on these "tweener" shots.
Thank you Danny. I have liked Dan Grieve too.
That’s great, I think it’s important to get different perspectives on the game
Mr. Maude, I’ve been using a putter chipper with great success. Do you like those?
Think they are fine. Limited because they really only produce one flight with little spin but they are fine if you just want the ball to pop up and release
I have been using my pitching wedge for such shots
Should I be using my Sand-54 or Gap-52 wedge?
If you c an comfortably flight the ball onto the green then yes
Great little video Danny, simple and uncomplicated, a lot more simple and uncomplicated than my current pitching 😉😂
@The-OC thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻

I have been dealing with the shanks with chipping. Any help would be great
Calm action and at least 5 brushing pre strokes back and forth to get some feel for the ground. then .3-2-1 go.
👌
thank you .
You are very welcome Patrick
Cheers
What specifically were you wanting to know?
Is there something that you’d like to improve with the driver l?
@@DanielMaude I just wonder if that type of thinking (lifting arms, splashing the paint etc) can be applied to iron shots as well? I just enjoyed that specific video and the swing thought of firing the arms down and then "splashing the paint" resonated with my driver swing - I'm looking for something similar for iron swings as well
Great tip Danny, but you need to adjust your carry bag so it’s square across your back mate! Evens the weight out 🧐😛
Good point Martin 🙏
Really struggling to hit driver solid and use to be my strongest club in my bag
That's my wheel house with my pitching wedge because I am a short hitter and my wedge is usually only 100 yards max swing.
Would really love to hear how it goes Dave
Do you use the same grip as other clubs?
I like to have a much weaker grip with my wedges
My pitch shots with my 62, 58, 54, 50, and P look lovely in the air: unfortunately they are always about 10-15 yds too short. 😔
Sounds like a little longer swing on an additional club
Softer hands, smoother finesse creates consistent distant control.
Thanks
How come all Danny’s tips/lessons are seemingly common sense that dont make me feel like i have to change everything ?😬😜✌️👍🏼
😂 really happy to help
Because he isn’t condescending, he is having fun and wants you to have fun too.
Every single part of my chipping has being thought by you 😂
Hope it’s helping
Simple but effective great teacher 🏌🏿♂️
@sasitaravath8404 thank you so much. I really appreciate your feedback 🙏🏻
I'm so weak a 60-80 yard pitch shot is just a full 54, so no problem here :D
That’s fine, the key is whatever works for you
Hi Danny, please could you in your subtitles give metres. Not all golf courses are in yds. Thanks Keith
Thanks for the heads up Keith
Club head to move first on the downswing???..
Absolutely. Completely the opposite to the power swing

Danny, seems like your wrists are quite, and your shoulders are doing the swing?
Most instructional videos have the ball on a flat lie. Help needed with the ball above or below my feet.
Or in a divot in the first cut.
I play on courses where you almost NEVER have a flat lie and stance. So: agreed!
Thanks for more helpful info! Curious, are you still giving your wife lessons?
Hi Jody she had to have an operation on her toe after a running accident so hasn’t players for almost 2 years. She’s been asking me recently that she would like to get started again
