Key is 5-0 against Ranked ACC Opponents.
Key has put together 2 of the best recruiting classes GT has ever had.
Key has made slam dunk coaching hires on both sides of the ball.

I really wish more people would give Georgia Tech the credit they deserve for this win. I understand that FSU is a much bigger brand, and with all the drama that has been going on with them that they will be talked about more. Brent Key has done a massive turnaround for a dead to rights program that now can compete for an ACC title birth. With the new playoff structure in place, I think this is something to be talked about nationally.

I did, before they even played the game! Why? Exactly because of what Kirby Smart said last year before the Tech Game and so many laughed at him. Then I told FSU fans that this is the team that got blown out by UGA in the largest Bowl Game loss ever... And what did they say, "Well they didn't have their players because they opted out, and I replied... but these are those players that did not opt out as they were not graduating or going to the NFL Draft!" Yet people didn't believe me about this! They came back and said, but we got new players from the "Transfer Portal" and I said, but they aren't all NFL people and you have to have congruency! They do not!

It's probably both wishcasting by the media and overconfidence by the coaching staff. Nick Saban was a master at avoiding this. As soon as he sensed anyone getting within smelling distance of the kool-aid, he would run to the microphone, put a scowl on his face, and rant for 5-10 minutes on how bad his team was and how great their upcoming opponent was.

Here's the thing with GT and academics. Sure there are other top academic schools like Stanford, Notre Dame etc that play football. However they are universities with 100+ majors to hide your athletes in. Georgia Tech is not a university but an institute like MIT and Cal Tech with limited majors. GT has less than 40 undergrad majors which are almost all engineering or hard sciences. Many of the smart football players don't necessarily want to study engineering.
Also every GT undergrad major requires at least 1 if not 2 calc classes. Many require computer science classes. Lets face it, many college football players will struggle with classes at any school.
We're not UNCheat and create a whole school with fake classes/majors to keep athletes eligible. Also years past GT administration wasn't always keen on helping the GTAA. GT's current pres Cabrera is the first president who is proactively helping the GTAA that I can remember.

Appreciate the kind word towards GT, Josh, as well as your analysis of the game. Brent Key has an amazing process going on at Georgia Tech. Another reason why GT has been a sleeping giant for a long is that we have not always had presidents that supported athletics and who were quite miserly with the athletic department budget. But President, Angel Cabrera, really supports athletics, as does his wife, Beth, a good old girl from north Alabama.

Georgia Tech CAN win the ACC. If that defense is dramatically improved and consistently plays with the toughness they showed in Ireland, their combined trench play will be a non-negotiable/X-factor. Add on top of that their great set of skill players, and this team is capable of challenging anyone on their schedule and probably capable of beating everyone on their schedule except for Georgia. As for Florida State, they are probably still a good team, but it looks like the allegations about them caring more about suing and off the field stuff rather than football are true. They looked totally gassed and unprepared. I think as time goes on they will be much better.

Little clarity on the academics thing you were not believing about Georgia tech. When CPJ was there we got an undergrad transfer from Stanford to play fullback in 2015. We had to get an exception to get him on the roster because the Hill (gt admin) didn't want to take his credits from stanford. This has completely changed under both GC and Key. Its apples and oranges what key has to work with compared to even when he was playing their under o'leary. And its a good thing but that's the type of stuff we had hamstringing us.

Over the next 4 years he really developed into a great pocket passer. Norvell definitely had something to do with that. As a Tech fan I’m a bit surprised the flood gates have opened on Norvell as much as they have. He’s a good coach that just so happened to run into a very underrated team in week 1. I was working remote from my computer but still got to watch a good bit of the game and it looked like Tech's offensive line was having it's way with FSU's defensive front. FSU has some issues to try and fix and GA Tech might make some noise in the ACC and possibly beyond this year.

as a Clemson fan let me warn you from falling into the DJU program decline trap. The first step is excusing terrible QB play. "HE isn't that bad," or "he wasn't the problem". Yep you are at step one. Step two is complaining that they do not let him just air it out. Step three is realizing why coaches who know more than you DONT let him air it out as he throws incompletions and interceptions like a kid playing pickup ball. Step 4 is coming to terms with the bust of a QB you have who looks SO good during practice but has the yips week in and week out in games. Step 5 is he moves on and you pick up the pieces while his dad complains about your program.
