So true! This is BY FAR one of the best interviews I have seen to date! When someone you idolize can be vulnerable and realteable, THAT says something. Thanks to all the "Crew"
That resonated with me as well. The first thing I thought of was cops who were picked on and bullied in highschool, they HAD to be driven by that experience.
How did I not know Terry Crews was basically in High school musical? The sports team wanted him to quit art and the art people wanted him to quit sports?? Throw in a thousand miles and you've got yourself a new high school musical😂
For reasons I won't get into I cried when Terry told the story about his dad. I didn't expect this episode to hit me so hard. Why I cry at almost all of these meals is crazy. It just shows how delicate life is. As a child of abuse, I so resonated with Terry. Even after 8 years of lots of counseling, those thoughts and feelings hit hard.
He came by the Chipotle I was working at in 2017 (Pasadena, CA) and couldn't have been nicer when asking him about Brooklyn 99. I gave him some grapefruit Izzes for free and he gave me the strongest handshake I've ever experienced in my life.
As a kid from Flint Michigan, I can say Terry Crews is a local legend and icon. One of the kindest people with a heart of gold who just wants to enjoy his life. He shows people from any inner city that they can follow their dreams without jeopardizing who they are. I've always admired him for that.
I used to intern at a radio station in Philly. I met Terry one day. He took the time to meet every single person on the team. Shook all their hands. This man is one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever met. He’s got so much grace and deserves his flowers! So happy for him and his success.
Terry Crews is honestly a huge inspiration as a man. Not because of his physical strength and appearance, but because of his wisdom, experiences, and that it's OK to have emotions
And he has some seriously good insights. His biggest fear is VERY atrocious to live. I'm an adult now, I made money, worked, struggled hard to get many things I needed. Unfortunately this is roughly the time when genetic sickness is becoming severe, I have low diastolic blood pressure all the time, I feel exhausted physically and mentally... despite having now the possibility to do all that I wanted to do all my life. Hearing him say it's a great fear, I feel sort of vindicated? That someone as powerful as him could understand how it is and comprehend, while most people don't. It felt kinda nice :)
Man this episode genuinely made me cry, just because I relate to a lot of what Terry was sharing about his fears and insecurities as a youngman growing up in a world that forces us to be tough. 50 minute episode for you, but a lifetime of lessons taught for me. Much appreciated to the both of you
Just wanted to say I find it so funny in a good way that you're talking about relating to these insecurities about growing up in a world that expects you to be tough... and your pfp is a cute kirby in a Ferrari hoodie lmao. You keep rocking that kirby, brother!
Growing up with an abusive father I used to dream about what Terry did and as I sat watching and crying with him I’m thankful I found therapy , thank you Terry for being brave and sharing ,hearing your story freed me from an old burden .
Honestly one of if not the best episode of last meals. Josh and Terry being vulnerable and talking about heavy topics while keeping everyone smiling is just beautiful
I wonder if Terry knows how cathartic this episode would be for so many people. This was an amazing episode, I’m 100% sure that this will go down as my number 1 favorite episode of this whole series. What a beautiful person inside and out.
In a time where so many things are coming to light about celebrities and the dark deeds that they do behind the camera, this wholesomeness and genuine heart that Terry shows is much needed. Great video!
Terry Crews is exactly what a man should thrive to be like. He is an amazing image of health, both mental and physical, growth as a person, vulnerability, understanding, and having the ability to adapt to life.
Terry talking about fighting his father was truly powerful, It's amazing how well Josh and everyone on the crew make this show and get the BEST interviews out of anyone
Traditional/TV interviewers should be on notice... Josh and Sean are running CIRCLES around them. Not only in the entertainment value, but allowing the rest of us to hear fascinating insights from people.
What Josh and Sean do well, and Sean talks about this in his interview of Alexa Chung who inspired The Hot Ones interview format with her The Big Ones interviews, is their format is specifically designed to knock celebrities out of their media training. I think once their minds are no longer following their training, it opens up the space for more human natural conversations. A lot of interviews are either promotional or just trying to get scoops out of celebrities and thus follow the same format celebrities are trained for; so it ends up feeling pretty transactional and repetitive. I think what Sean does well is try to highlight great things about his interviewees; so people can learn something about the actual human being interviewed. I think Josh does this as well, but instead of trying to highlight great things about them, he'll highlight moments about their life where their humanity is a large part the story. Amelia also does pretty well getting a human interaction with her guests by being intentionally awkward and framing the interview as a date, but I feel like I don't really learn much about the celebrities in her interviews since there's no space to get into a deep conversation.
This, by far, has been the best episode for me. We can all relate to at least one of the stories he told. The meals were based on different phases in his life, and you can tell how he savored each bite. Showing appreciation for the memory as well as how the food was cooked was so refreshing to watch. Such a great episode to watch!
My dad's whole family was beaten by his dad growing up. He kept my sister and I away from his parents until he felt they were little to no risk to us. Him and his siblings faced up to their dad as he got towards the end of his life and asked him why he did it. He had no words. Needless to say I'm grateful for my dad choosing to never lay a hand on any of us and doing the right things even when he'd never had the right things himself. Love the episode and it's good to hear other people have experienced the same things
I never allowed my kids to meet my dad. I went to see him on his death bed and all he could say to me was "I'm sorry" and he cried. That's all I needed. I'm still broken but it helped that he acknowledged it.
"when you're young you dont know you're poor" How I miss the innocence of childhood Love Terry Crews, so happy he came on. Listening about his childhood makes it clear why he tries so hard with his children to understand and be a part of their hobbies
One of the absolute best interviews ive ever seen. Huge respect to you for doing your due dilligence about him before and for asking him tough questions
This is, without question, the most raw, inspiring, and heartfelt conversation I have ever heard. What an absolute home run of a discussion. Terry is an absolute gem. Man.
That's a man who is thankful to and loves his wife dearly. She's included in like everything he talks about. It shows how much she means to her. This episode got me good, definitely cried. There's something about this guy you grew up watching who was like peak machismo being completely open and vulnerable. It's just so human. This is how I wish we could all communicate.
I'm always so impressed at how comfortable Terry is with being emotionally vulnerable on camera. Takes real courage and confidence to do that and I massively appreciate him for it.
100% this was an absolute DREAM interview for Josh. As someone who worked out as a coping mechanism and sort of "identity" even before he discovered his career passion, I feel like Josh has such a kinship with Terry and his background of poverty, uncertainty, insecurity, and eventual triumph and finding meaning. Great interview, Terry is so incredible.
Hoooo I knew I was gonna cry today but him taking accountability for his workaholism as a father wasn't what I was expecting to get me. I am glad that he was able to sit with those feelings.
As a father to a 1 year old, that hit me hard, cause Im tryin to figure out how to work on that myself, I sit and work and think "Im doin this so that she has everything I didnt growin up" but my partner has pointed out that we may have money and physical stuff like gifts and toys, but that they dont get a lot of time with me, that I miss a lot of the small moments, and it hit me that those moments are more precious than money or the physical could ever be

Such a great guy!!! Terry Crews is a nerdy artist, comedian, actor, musician inside an olympian body. The funniest role he played was in The Longest Yard remake with Adam Sandler when he just kept pulling out cheeseburgers from everywhere all throughout the movie 😂😂😂
The last course was straight out of that movie. I kept thinking "I got the shakes that'll make you quake. I got the fries that'll cross your eyes. I got that burgers that'll... I just got burgers."
Terry Crews has one of the best last meals I’ve ever seen. It covers everything you got sweet, spicy, salty, savory. You got foods from Europe, Africa, American, etc. You got unhealthy and healthy this is one of the best last meals I’ve ever seen
This is probably one of the best last meals so far. Terry is just so open and willing to talk through anything, there's no holding back. What a fantastic dude and fantastic episode.
I loved when Terry talked about Star Wars and being able to still feel his mom here. I teared up because yes 🫶🏼 our souls have always been here. I found comfort in that.
Can I just shout out the sound design in this episode?? The background music throughout the conversation was perfectly capturing the mood. What a wonderful team with such passion. Thank you all for this!
Terry Crews has to be one of the most unexpectedly inspirational celebs I’ve ever seen. He ofc played football, but he really came into the public eye after some comedy films, and ofc being in everybody hates Chris. I always saw him as a goofy actor, but he just so happens to be this vulnerable, outspoken and effortlessly inspiring.
This is the best interview on youtube, not only is there great food, terry was able talk his heart out, huge probs to josh being such an amazing interviewer and listener.
I’ve learned my lesson. Never skip a Terry video. You may think you’ve heard everything he has to say over and over. But whatever it is, guarantee you need to hear exactly what he’s saying. He’s a gift to humanity.
Terry told that story about the time he hit his dad during another interview some years back in greater detail. It literally changed my life and I will always be greatful towards this man for sharing that difficult story.
Honestly, the last question asked to everyone who is invited to Last Meals - "Are you happy?" It's such a powerful question, and when us, the audience hears a quick and positive response on it, I think I can speak for the most of us that it's a small sense of motivation and immediately puts a smile on your face. You immediately look up to this person a lot more within a second. It does have an impact on us watching. These interviews are curated so well.
Man, after just having my first therapy session yesterday, that conversation about Terry’s dad hit me like a truck. Go to therapy, guys especially. You owe you and your future self that healing.
@@glassofwater281 speaking from personal experience, you might actually get more out of it now than you would have going when you were younger. I went when I was a child, and then again when I was a young adult, and it definitely helped me a lot more that second time. I think it's cuz at that point you're old enough to kind of articulate what it is you're feeling/what you want to talk about/how it's affecting you rather than just 'I don't know, man. I'm 13 and everything feels awful. Please fix it.'
I think one of the greatest things a journalist/interviewer can do is produce a piece of media that can both entertain and cause the viewer to look inward about their own experiences. This hit the spot on both just right and I am so so grateful for the opportunity to experience this episode.
Oh my god. I was unaware that Terry Crews had such an upbringing. It just goes to show how strong he is because he is willing to talk about his hardships. Whoa. He is very remarkable. I'm really sympathetic to his inner child. He evolved into what he need.
I would have thought an interview show couldn’t get better than Hot Ones. The absolute depth and personal reflection that these interviews get into is so therapeutic for everyone involved including us, the audience. I could definitely see the emotion on Josh’s face as Terry was talking about his dad. It really struck him hard and deep. By far the best interview show and concept ever concocted. And Josh definitely learned from Johnny Carson by just letting his guest talk.
What an episode. Terry getting real, Josh asking great questions and just taking it all in. Terry is always so genuine and honest and downright inspirational.
This is my favorite episode. I didn't skip a single topic. It was so relatable and I felt like Terry was being 100% authentic and candid...when he didn't have to. He doesn't owe anyone anything but he gave so much in this conversation. I wish I could confront my Mom and have the results Terry had. She wouldn't be receptive of it....she probably would never be. I feel like I can't tell her about my life at all.
Hearing Terry being so vulnerable talking about his father and fight him. When you wanna beat your own but hearing him saying that he felt NOTHING out of it
Honestly, this episode should be on its own pedestal, absolutely the best one yet. This hits on so many levels, we really don’t deserve a man like Terry Crews. Thank you all for putting together one heck of an interview!
I had to pause for a second when I saw this come up in my notifications, because Terry has been on Mythical a few times now. There was the Tiny Foods episode with him on GMM and also the Food Fears in GMK.
This might actually help the best celebrity interview ever. Being able to listen to Terry’s story, and in many ways being able to relate to it, this one hits the heart strings in all the right ways
I'm a silent Mythical Beast, but Josh........ you have found your calling in journalism & interviewing. You asked the questions that most would shy away from or simply leave as is, but you kept digging to get to the true soul of the person on the other side. In this case, Terry. Kudos to you and the entire Mythical Kitchen crew. ❤❤❤❤❤
This is one of my favourite episodes. Terry is a man who has LIVED life, and continues to love life. He has so much wisdom and many lessons which shows just how emotionally intelligent he is, not to forget entertaining!
I have felt very weak and cowardly the last several months of my life. Felt like I've been doing everything wrong and that I have no hope for myself. This interview and Terry's talk of self fulfillment and knowing how to act for the greater-good of yourself but also those you care most about is utterly empowering. I still feel I have a long way to go, but this man's words as he indulges on some ribs and smoothies is something I hope can change me as a person and as a man. Thanks Terry.
You're the opposite of cowardly. You being able to vocalize that and putting yourself out there proves you are earnest, and earnesty involves a vulnerability, which then follows a necessity of bravery. I'm sorry you're going through a lot, but hang in there. As cliche as it sounds: In the darkest of night lives the brightest star. You got this :) I believe in you!

Terry's balance of vulnerability and openness about his traumas truly is a breath of fresh air and feels so- human. Terry is the epitome of loyalty, respect, and dedication. A true role model. I was in tears through half of this and with what I’m going through right now, I feel a lot of inspiration. Thank you for conducting this interview. You have no idea how many people need to hear this.
Hearing someone talk so candidly about rapture theology hits deep. I grew up in an Evangelical "Baptist" Church and that was a big fear tactic and for a kid from a broken home, that haunted me.
Waking up to or coming home to an empty house evoked so much fear in me as a child, constantly worried that you messed up somehow. The Left Behind series really did a number on a generation of kids who grew up in the church.
SAME! I grew up in the same kind of environment and while I'm really no longer religious, I don't think that "what if I'm wrong" thought will ever leave the recesses of my memory. Fun times
Terry Crews is me. Never knew this side of him and already loved the guy...this is why this show is amazing! The sheer rawness... this is a program that makes you hungry and gives you chills and feels.

See that’s the side about big guys that most people don’t know about. There this big intimidating walls but their soft marshmallow on the inside delate and was forced to be the big guy that they are to escape and take on their pain/fears
I protected my mom from my dad. I was smaller than my dad, I was 13. Changed my life and left my dad with a scar on his forehead. Sometimes he still shows me and says "Look what you did to me."
These stories need to be shared. Plenty of us guys that had to grow up and mold ourselves into the protector against our dads
@@badcornflakes6374wow. You should be so proud of that scar.

For reasons I won't get into I cried when Terry told the story about his dad. I didn't expect this episode to hit me so hard. Big shout out to Mr. Crews for discussing his flaws and being so open I don't think anybody saw that coming. What I love about this show is even though it is comedy in nature, there are a few Last Meals episodes that really go deep.

That's awesome. He seems so genuine and kind.
Any idea what his shirt says? We couldn't read it clearly enough.
Love that story.
I helped him at the Whole Foods on Arroyo years ago. Good dude.
As a kid from Flint Michigan, I can say Terry Crews is a local legend and icon. One of the kindest people with a heart of gold who just wants to enjoy his life. He shows people from any inner city that they can follow their dreams without jeopardizing who they are. I've always admired him for that.
wonderful
thats real
I used to intern at a radio station in Philly. I met Terry one day. He took the time to meet every single person on the team. Shook all their hands. This man is one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever met. He’s got so much grace and deserves his flowers! So happy for him and his success.
I’m really glad I watched this. Terry Crews just became one of my heroes. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your life with us.
39:26 "She cooked like she hated him" is such a sick burn lol 😭
😂 malicious compliance is my favorite and you know he meant that. The fact that she’d cook for herself later took me out lol
This is the best one yet. I feel like were just eating dinner with a friend. Not a famous actor and no cameras around, just us. What a chill guy.

Man this episode genuinely made me cry, just because I relate to a lot of what Terry was sharing about his fears and insecurities as a youngman growing up in a world that forces us to be tough. 50 minute episode for you, but a lifetime of lessons taught for me. Much appreciated to the both of you

I wonder if Terry knows how cathartic this episode would be for so many people.
This was an amazing episode, I’m 100% sure that this will go down as my number 1 favorite episode of this whole series. What a beautiful person inside and out.
Took the words out of my mouth, easily my favorite episode of the series.
Josh always connects with people so well too. It feels very genuine and like we’re a part of it vs a stiff interview we’re watching, at least for me.
@@eclecticnomad1972 that can't be easy to do either!
@@jnonymouslove your insight!
Wow, I'm proud of your dad. He sounds like a good man

Didn't expect to cry today, Terry is the man!

Terry Crews has to be one of the most unexpectedly inspirational celebs I’ve ever seen. He ofc played football, but he really came into the public eye after some comedy films, and ofc being in everybody hates Chris. Honestly, the last question asked to everyone who is invited to Last Meals - "Are you happy?"
It's such a powerful question, and when us, the audience hears a quick and positive response on it, I think I can speak for the most of us that it's a small sense of motivation and immediately puts a smile on your face. You immediately look up to this person a lot more within a second. It does have an impact on us watching. These interviews are curated so well.
To me a quick response makes it seem more defensive than any of those things, but in this video it the quickness seemed like assuredness

This is my favorite episode. I didn't skip a single topic. It was so relatable and I felt like Terry was being 100% authentic and candid...when he didn't have to. He doesn't owe anyone anything but he gave so much in this conversation.
