Berlin có nguồn gốc từ Slavic 'berl' = đầm lầy vì cảnh quan trong và xung quanh Berlin bị ảnh hưởng mạnh mẽ bởi kỷ băng hà cuối cùng. Cũng như nhiều thành phố khạc, Berlin rất sôi động. Quê em ở Kiên Giang. Kiên Giang ở miền Tây và cách Sài Gòn khoảng 200km. Quê em nổi tiếng về du lịch đảo Phú Quốc và "NƯỚC MẮM" nữa đó. Nước mắm Phú Quốc ăn là ghiền! Tên gọi Kiên Giang có nguồn gốc từ tên của sông Kiên. Sông Kiên là Kiên Giang!

I met a man who was about 90 years old, in Da Nang, who told me he was from what I thought was Da Lat. He described Da Lat exactly, being in the central of Vietnam, located in Lam Dong province. However, I tuned in and heard that he was saying "Dak Lat", so I assumed he must mean Dak Lak - I typed out Dak Lak and he said no. Then I typed out Da Lat and he said NO. ! He Typed "Dac Lat". This is how it is spelled he said. I wonder if it was ever called this? He was very insistent on it.

I agree Sai Gon originated from Rai Gon because the S sound from the Viet Kieu group is not actually a but a rolling tongue sound like Sh in Russian or mandarin Chinese.
I was about to comment this, I thought it is the same in all current southern varieties of Vietnamese?
The S should sound like Sh and not X indeed. Annie's accent is not from a "real" Southern Vietnamese

They can be used interchangeably sometimes but not in all cases. Co nguon goc tu is literally translated as orginiated from whereas Den tu means come from

If Saigon is pronounced correctly, S must be similar to Sh in Chinese.

Fake. This isn't a fact, it's just a theory, a theory that is very questionable. It was called gia định first, which doesnt have any cambodian context. So it follows that saigon shouldnt have any cambodian attachments either. Seriously? Nokor -> Raigor -> Saigon? Lol. What happened to Gia Định? And also when ir was just 6 provinces under Gia Long and Minh Mang, there was no cambodian name attachments.
The foreign name attachments came from the french colonisers, who wanted to rid vietnamese nationality and culture. You yourself look like a cambodian or austronesian hybrid. So it's no surprise why you would say this and feel that way.
She has also mentioned many other similarities Khmer, specifically to certain words. They sounds legit, but I don't know if true or not.
A city can have two names, one is Sino-Vietnamese used by the government, another is a colloquial name used by normal people. Like Hanoi, it used to have a colloquial name "Kẻ Chợ"
Under the Republic of Vietnam regime, Saigon and Gia Dinh were different cities.
Saigon has the correct name according to the Cantonese or Teochew pronunciation.
