Not many language educators are grounded in reality. It’s refreshing to see that you are. I am happy that I found your channel and I will continue to follow or review your previous lessons. Thank you for sharing.
A very good lesson. The content is important because, learning about the real world and how the language is used (in reality) is very important.
Pretending that a language ( any language) does NOT use or have obscenity is disingenuous and hypocritical.
Well done. Keep up the excellent lessons/videos.
All languages have such a dark side of insults.
Hahaha my girlfriend is already frustrated that I've learnt such low brow Vietnamese from League of Legends. Repeating these phrases with my headphones on drew some baffled looks :V
Ha3x.... vietnamese language to me is rather difficult...
This was a fun one to watch. For "Chơi đồ ít thôi", the English equivalent is "Get off the grass!" :D
My time in Viet Nam has shown me the richness of insults amongst (especially) citizens in TpHCM...so I know you haven't even gone into the 'worst' of the insults in common use. Brilliant lessson. I wonder why it is so much easier to learn the 'bad' words. 😆
this was a fun watch. Lol you were trying to keep your composure. good job Annie
Even with little to no understanding of Vietnamese, being able to recognize some of these expressions would prove useful for situational awareness the next time I travel to Viet Nam.
Thank you for teaching us, it might be uncomfortable for many teachers(esp vietnamese themselves) but you managed to do it for the sake of knowledge sharing. Appreciate it.
Let me just clarify a small nuance of one of the 'insults' for the non-English speakers.. At around the 6.30 point where you translate 'Sorry my vagina'', you are correct in thinking that the English version it's literally closest to is 'Sorry my ass (or arse in UK and Australian English) but we wouldn't usually use this phrase in this context to mean 'You shouldn't feel sorry for them...'. How I've always used that term and heard it used is to mean 'I don't believe the person saying they are sorry are really sorry'' or 'they are just pretending to be sorry'. In this context we wouldn't really say' sorry my ass' to the person saying they feel sorry for the celebrity because the person saying it is probably truly sorry for them. We would probably use another insult to mean the person feeling sorry is stupid for feeling sorry for them. I hope I explained it clearly enough :-) You do a great job. I just discovered your channel. I've spent a lot of years in Vietnam and it's my favourite place in the world.
I’ve heard Viet Kiểu use the exact phrase “Sorry my ass” for this situation.
Anne I’ve followed you for a long time but some of your lessons are over my head but most are very clear including this one as you started off with a bit of history l new about the floods but never heard about celebrities ripping people off ( unbelievable) but the lesson was very well explained congratulations I’ve learnt a lot specially the insults. (Love it )
Time for some new flash cards
Thank you. If you published a book of these I would buy it. I don't plan on trying to use any of these because my pronunciation sucks so people don't usually understand me when I try to say more advanced things, but it's nice to understand what other people say.
I appreciate your efforts 😊 best of luck for the best fruitful future.
This is was a very good lesson! Although it’s not want I need learn it is necessary because it’s everyday language! These everyday expressions not used in dictionaries and online study is very usefully. This is also in southern accent which is rare to find.
That was brilliant. Thank you.
Minh thich hoc tien viet , va i always watching your videos and learning Vietnamese language ; this is very usefull lesson want know all local using topics... cam on
Great video. Thumbs up.
Thanks dear. 😊👍
Hi from Can Tho. 🤗🇻🇳
great video!
4:00 we have a similar saying over here, "give yourself an uppercut" 🤣
Thanks for the lessons,it’s good to know….
I love you, you are awesome!
Such a topic that is real but not discuss on line. I could recognize many topics used in my language. The only exception is related to dogs. We do not have any injurious expression involving dogs. We love dogs.
I will watch this video everyday until I know the words by heart ❤
This was a lot of fun. :-) I’d always tell people not to use obscenity in a language they don’t know well (and understand the full implications of what they’re saying). But obscenity is also really interesting and provides another window into culture. The use of “mother” and “father” is especially interesting. Is using those words a “hint” at something more obscene involving them without actually saying it?
This might come in useful some day
😆 I love this lesson. Yes, more street slangs.
The fading letters make this even more funny.
Such a nice way of teaching swear words with a smile 😅 lol. Thanks.
Interesting
That "dong nao di= use your brain" is, I guess, all chinese words which are similar to "dong nao dai= move your brain".
Vietnam language has some very 'colourful' language when it comes to serious insults. English is very tame in comparison, in English there are only 4 or 5 'bad' words and a few sentences that they are used in buy in Vietnamese there are some very bad offencivce insults
Thank you. Now I am ready for video games on Vietnamese servers
You are getting kind of edgy with this topic. Ha ha. Interesting
That was good 😂
Weird lession, but i think now people will know if anyone makes joke or insult them
Trich khong?
finally real education haha
Bad and filthy words exist in every other language. There is no exception.
Just curious if her hubby did it the same way as she explained in the vid to immerse himself in the language, and in the end not only mastered those expressions but also sound like a local...😂
Do you use the same words for Mother and Father , when not using as an insult?
Is it just the context that you use to make it an insult?
Dạ, đúng rồi chú Dean!
@@LearnVietnameseWithAnnie Thanks for your reply , with the level of respect given to older people , It surprised me to use these words as an insult.
Fascinating!
It's just a shorthand for f** your mom
I say du ma a lot.
I love seeing the vietnamese and english version of the phrases, plus repeated pronounication!
You know, I follow your lessons quite a few years-
Don't want to go too much into details.
You are getting prettier and prettier.
Sad that you are married.
Greetings from Germany
Keep on your work!
Let's go back to smiling like your video 7 or 8 years ago, I hope that.
Hãy quay lại nụ cười giống như video của bạn 7 hay 8 năm trước, tôi hy vọng điều đó.
😖😄
I think she smiles plenty!
@@dankmemewannabe7692 you right... smiling before and after getting married looks different 😋

@@danny24042002 Yes!! I’m sure she has great reasons to smile when she does!
