1. Ship, shipper (xíp, xíp bơ), 2. hot (hót), 3. chill (xiu), 4. view (viu), 5. deadline (đét lay), 6. trend (tren), 7. mood (mút). These words have not „sneaked“ into the Vietnamese language, but are used by some and avoided by others. Sadly, most countries now go by their English names in the Vietnamese media. So Bạch Nga = Belarus, I-rác = Iraq, Y = Italy, Hung-ga-ri = Hungary and so on. Tiếc quá!

It is very interesting to see how these borrowed new words in Vietnamese are being used and how different the pronunciation is. Also, this gives you an insight into the difficulties of the pronunciation between English and Vietnamese because they are pronounced so differently. I do question your assertion that they are filling a 'void' or that there is a gap somehow because there are real equivalent ways to say them such as Tik Tok dang hot = Tik Tok rat pho bien hien nay/bay gio. Of course not as short as but you still can convey the same meaning. Or chill = giải trí, nghỉ ngơi or view = canh dep nhat. But I take the point that there might be slightly different connotations. But I think they are just more modern/contemporary ways of saying them and is a natural progress or progression of a language from generation to generation. As you highlighted for the word 'chill' and how it is being used by young people as a trendy word. I think that might better explain why these words are being used. Like in English new words enter the language or existing words are repurposed and take on newer/different meanings by the new generation because they find more interesting, fun, ways to express their actions, thoughts, or their feelings. For instance, I remember when the word "sick' started being used as an adjective when I was in my 20s, some 30 years ago now, to mean something awesome or cool.

1. Tụt mood (down mood): we say "xuống tinh thần/tụt hứng/tâm trạng đi xuống/tinh thần đi xuống", not use " tụt/xuống tâm trạng", lên mood (rising mood): lên tinh thần/lên hứng/cao hứng/tâm trạng đi lên/tinh thần đi lên.
2. Shipper: nhân viên giao hàng, not "tài xế giao hàng", tài xế is driver.
3. deadline: hạn chót. Hạn mean an assigned period for a work So deadline can be translated as hạn việc. And we can use words: trả hạn việc (trả deadline), chạy hạn việc (chạy deadline, cày hạn việc (cày deadline).
Better deadline can be translated as khóa hạn (a lock at the end of period).
- Trả/cày/chạy/chậm deadline: trả/cày/chạy/chậm khóa hạn.

Nowadays many words Vn words also were replaced with English ones like in many another languages. Example "design" instead of "thiet ke" or "marketing" for "mua ban" etc
In a Vietnamese textbook first published 15 years ago they teach "tiếp thị" for "marketing". "Tiếp thị" is still used but "marketing" is getting used very frequently too.

Is it only recently these words have been adopted? And just wondering how the older generation might see these English words in their language.
The older generations in general is more conservative with new English loan words. Now and again I see (older) people complaining about how younger generation is destroying the Vietnamese language by using too many foreign words. There have been seminars, opinion articles and TV shows trying to help promote the purity and accuracy of the Vietnamese language (which means, using less English). I don't think they've made any impact to be honest.
@@LearnVietnameseWithAnnie I work with 90% Vietnamese, many Viet kieu and some older generation, from all regions but mostly southern,it's so interesting to see their interaction and hear what they think about different subjects

The word in the video title "sneaked" is incorrect and "snuck" should be used instead
I am a German speaker with relatives in the USA, so I might be wrong, but for as much as I know: Both words mean the same thing and "to sneak" (as in "sneakers") is better known.
“sneaked” is accepted by the Oxford dictionary -“snuck” is called ‘informal’
Vietnamese should stop using English words if they can’t pronounce them. 😅👍
That’s why they need English teachers, and not Vietnamese English teachers, but foreigners. 😂
