Shocking locals in Saigon's Chinatown with perfect Chinese and Vietnamese 🇻🇳

  • 🇻🇳 Greetings from Saigon, Vietnam! Having lived and traveled in China for 2 years, gone to school in China, and learned Chinese for the better part of the last 10 years, I couldn't pass up the chance to visit Chinatown down here on my trip in Saigon. I speak Mandarin, which is the main language spoken in mainland China. The majority of people who live in Chinatown's around the world tend to speak Cantonese, the language spoken in Hong Kong and also some southeastern provinces of China, rather than Mandarin. As such, I didn't think I'd get the chance to try out my Mandarin. All I can say is I was pleasantly surprised! So join me, and let's check out Saigon's Chinatown.

You suprised me when you changed the accent from Northen to Southern when saying "giấm", and then it actually helps the woman to understand it. You also say "cháu xin" when the "mother" give you the noodles, this is awesome and you are even more awesome than some local people that just take and keep quiet when someone gives them stuffs for sharing (or you can call it a present). The word "cháu xin" nearly means "thank you", but for the stuff that other people give you just because they want to, and you are not asking for it or it's not really necessary .That shows how deep you understand about Vietnamese culture, not just the language, this is crazy!! This is my first visit on your channel, and probably I'll have to watch more. This video is one of my biggest motivation to start learning the third language, man you're amazing. Respect!

Thanks for sharing this video. Love this video very much. Watching this reminds me of my Grandma during my time when I was still a young kid. Seeing that love and warmth of grandma just brings tears to my eyes. Doing the cooking by Grandma herself and treating you guys to a very delicious meal, almost treating you guys as one of their own.

Recently discovered your videos and am so, so happy I did. Really impressive on the language skills but also cultural cues and allowing all of us who haven't travelled there to experience a little taste (no pun intended) of real life interactions. And of course, food always brings people together so I love your entire concept of going to eat places and striking up conversation, so wholesome and sweet.

I love going to China town in Liverpool, the city really embraces it now, with a big Chinese gate as you enter the area, and all the street furniture has oriental decoration on it, and the street signs in English and Chinese. I used to knock round with some Eurasian lads when I was younger, and we'd go for something to eat on Sunday's with their dad who was from Hong Kong, and he'd order for all of us, usually stuff that wasn't on the menu.

Hey Chris! thanks for the interesting info: i live in Saigon for 20 years without knowing the China town in here is the biggest ! One more thing, under the French colonial period Saigon at first had two main parts: District 1 and Chợ Lớn, and they built a railway to travel between two places. The Chinese is good at trading so they named their area "Big Market" i think...
