    I feel like if you’re consistently trying to make yourself into something new; you’ll be continuously disappointed with the current version of yourself. There’s probably a sweet zone of wanting to be better but not feeling bad for doing your best (assuming you’re doing that). I think confidence lies in self acceptance more than total transformations (broadly speaking).

    • @destine1547
      @destine1547 3 года назад +6

      1:58 thanks for the detailed explanation. It was interesting. It sounds like as long as your self perception isnt wholly rested on external forces you’ll be fine. I’m speaking broadly, because we all to some extent depend on the external to understand ourselves; like using the external as a mirror of sorts. But I think that as long as your confidence is something not completely depended on your audience then you’ll be in a stable place in most cases. Obviously we can become confident via feedback from external forces but the dependence of the external for self conception seems like a plea for validity. I think as long as one is thinking deeply about their behaviors and their self compassion they’ll wind up building a sort of confidence but this will involve mindfulness and self critique. It’s probably an individual specified journey for all of us; and that’s likely why no one can tell you exactly how to be more confident.

      For sure man. I don't think the difference between thinking and overthinking is simply the amount of it you do. I think it's more about the attitude you have towards it. If you're undertaking all this introspection because you think the answers to your problems are somewhere, it might not be so fruitful, but if you're doing it with a light-hearted curiosity, I think ironically you benefit more.

    Coming from a position where I've had to claw my way out of anxiety and low confidence. Just do the shit. There's no secret.
    Either you face your fears or cower and remain the same. The more you do it when it feels like you it's going to be hard or impossible, the more you're going to realise you can actually do it.
    Basically what this bloke is saying, is actually pretty true. Don't try and fill the whole with other things. Just do it.
    Caveat: you may fail, but that's not the end. Keep trying and trying. We can't always do things on the first try and most things don't have to be done on the first attempt. We learn as we do things, things can be similar to other things and you get better at those things which makes it easier to do things. Do the thing.

    this is good advice, i think whenever we have that “hole,” that belief that “I’ll be happier when...” or “...if...” that’s an empty hope, because nobody is confident and comfortable 100% of the time. if at all possible, we shouldn’t go through life crippled by anxiety and lack of confidence (barring medical issues), but we also can’t expect to be completely free from
    those issues. there will always be situations with which we’re not completely comfortable, because that’s life: learning and improving.

  • @MingusTale
    @MingusTale 3 года назад +6

    100% best advice I've heard about confidence is that compentence creates confidence. And then you realise that if you're going to ever be confident it requires you to do a lot of shit to get good at doing it. It's not exactly fake it till you make it, yu don't need to act out being confident. Just do shit and you'll slowly gain the confidence to know that you can. I also like one of my mum's pet phrases "the less you do the less you can do". It applies really well both to things like working out and to things like work and building confidence. If you're tired and anxious and depressed and you do nothing cos of it you only get more tired from never using your body, more anxious from not experiencing the outside world, and more depressed cos your life is shit.

    I LOVED the Gladiators spot there! Totally got that. Being a teenager in the early 90s, I smiled at that scene. And your right about all you've said. Before Lockdown I was in a total slump in my own job and during the last few months. I had horrid nerve issues and lost confidence in myself. After letting it out to a friend,I got the confidence to tell my boss that Id return to work part time, and not just take what hours were going post Lockdown. Cutting my work week hours by half has defo relaxed me more, spending time at home with the parents, enjoying more "My" time. I wouldnt have done this had I remained in the mind slump I was in earlier in the year. All it took was one chat with the boss, didnt overthink things before hand,and am happier with the self chosen reduced hours. Over analyzing everything has always been a vice for me,leading to anxiety. Sometimes just letting loose about whats going on with ya to a mate is a huge step in reclaiming confidence in yerself. This was a great video,mate. This is the sort of cool content that people like to see,and relate to. Everyday life, and trying to get thru' it, with all the panic storms about this years. Lad this is by far the most relevant video of our time, I went from being over confident and highly liked in school (from my perspective) could mingle with absolutely anybody, to 18+ being socially awkward and not understanding why I wasn't the same guy anymore, now im 24 I've developed a true confidence in myself I just don't give a fuck about what other people think of me, that school confidence was a phobia of not being liked, now I dont give a fuck if I'm liked or not, and my small group of friends respect me for it!

    At times Joe's monologues get close to sounding like a stoned ramble but I feel that's what makes them good. He doesn't try to dress things up, just tells it how he sees it.

    You're awesome for this. You're an example of what it means to be ok with it all in this video and it's beautiful. There's no façade of confidence. I believe confidence can exist though but that journey is one hundred percent filled with this, that you portray here in this video. Which is just flowing with the feelings rather than fighting them, looking at it and saying ok this feels weird but is that bad and do I actually want to change this. Change what it means to be human? Nah. Gotta get used to it. It's so funny because I've found that the next step is just acceptance of your self and others naked physically and spiritually, and here you are being put to a funny test of whether or not you should be wearing a shirt, if it really matters, or not, even if it like could be seen or judged so many ways. It's like naw, feels weird but here I am, not here to fight any feelings and harmonize with it rather than fight it. Beautiful. You're fuckin hilarious and make only good points throughout, with breaks that come about due to you just being yourself that make the video so much more individualized vs any other one that's going to pride it's self on the idea that showing even the tiniest bit hesitation means something needs to be fixed. You've truly made a difference in the way I see things as I watch how this came to be. Thank you. This is how real art is made.
