- If someone came up to me and said they had to confiscate ALL my lenses except for one, which one would I keep? That’s an easy one for me, I’d keep my Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART lens. Now let’s talk about why you should too.
My name is Justin Romeyn, I’m the owner & lead cinematographer at Red Creative Films, a production company based in Dallas, TX. We do commercials, weddings, and real estate videos and if you look at our work, most of the time you would think we are filming on expensive cinema lenses. I have actually had people say this to me. Well guess what? On EVERY project we do I use the Red Komodo, and guaranteed at some point, the $899 Sigma 35mm ART lens.
It is my ABSOLUTE favorite and GO-TO lens for video. For wide, medium, and even close-up shots on my Red Komodo or Canon C70! Anyway, let’s go over a few reasons why.

Nice, I have the GM 1.4 version and you’re right about the 1.4. You never know how good the 35mm prime lens is until you actually get to use.
Yes such an ideal focal length for a variety of shots

I was wondering why did you get this lens over the sigma 18-35 1.8 ef ?
What camera body do you use with it/used with it for the videos you showed? Do you have any good camera body recommendations to use with it? I have the Canon EOS 700d but I think the focus is too slow and causes a ton of noise from my lense when filming videos.
What camera brand you are using
Do you use a 50mm ? What are your takes on the 24mm sigma ?
Between this lens + a 0.71x adapter vs sigma 18-35mm which one would you get ? For a c70

Are you using mist filters to achieve the look? Cheers
On some of the shots yes, but not all. Others may have fog/haze
And issues with image in corners ?what are the take aways and how is the bokeh? is it round or lemon shaped ?
VERY minimal soft/darker corners. I use it on there all the time and it’s super usable. Most of the shots you see in the video with the lens is WITH the speed booster on
