I disagree with you calling it a boring lens. Images can be boring on any lens If you’re not creative. Photography on any lens can be boring or inspiring, it’s all about how you shoot compositions.
You have come a long way as a photographer if you master 28mm- 35mm or 50mm around F8 and above. No blurry background, no BS. #Nothing_to_hide_behind

My sigma 35 1.4 was almost permanently mounted on my camera during my 3 week trip to China. Firstly because it was the lightest and smallest lens I had available. But also because I loved how I could take portraits of my family and still have much of the surroundings visible (my other lenses are 28-75 and 70-200). I took it on a 6 hour walk on the Great Wall and basically every day we went out exploring the city and never got tired of carrying it. Fantastic lens!

I just got this exact combo (Camera & Lens), I am starting in photography and seeing a video like this makes me happy, that I could potentially reach this level you have.
I love your videos man... You know what could be a great idea that I dont see other creators doing, like explaining how they really shoot street photography.. for example.. this same POV type of video but explaining from the photo and the moment we see on video, what settings they had and why... but besides from shutter,ISO and Aperture like letting us know what metering mode they used, why they chose center weighted in the foucs area, did you use M or A mode, since it was afternoon did you modified your WB... Idk something like that I don't see many doing.

So true! The 35mm lens is a lens I own. Never want to use and when I do use it I love it. Its just so boring but at the same time so pleasent.

35mm is perfect. I find 50 a tad too tight in many situations.
I am more of a 50mm shooter but I want to get better with the 35mm. Good for you that you love the 35mm ;)

I really enjoyed your video. Thanks for explaining more about the 35m focal length. I recently purchase a 35mm lens coming from 50mm because i wanted to include more elements on my frames and try to tell a story. But you are right, most photos im currently taking feel boring. It forces you to think more on an interesting composition, just before shooting.
It takes a while to get used to it but as everything, practice makes perfect! :)
The 35 mm says: "Adrian...are you here...?...no no...are You Here"...?!
Since there are no trickery with this focal length, it relies on us, to seeing and getting a picture.

This video resonated deeply with me. I started with a 50mm for street and family. I then purchased a 35mm for family and noriced that it was much harder to get those increadible shots...it was abit discouraging, but i stuck with it and my brain started to automatically think about compositions and lines...i sometimes go back to the 50mm which feels more like home...but 35mm feels abit exciting and unknown.

I shot with this focal length for 12 years before switching to a 24-70. It will forever be my favourite focal length exactly for the reasons you mentioned. I'm starting to go back to it now because I sometimes feel the "laziness" when it comes to the 24-70 where I zoom in with the lens and not my feet. Btw, I use the 35gm and never had an issue with weight or size with that lens; pretty expensive completely worth it though in my opinion, hands down the best sony lens for me in terms of sharpness/size/weight/speed.

I have no doubt about my photography greatness. I struggle to achieve average images. As the great philosopher Dirty Harry said, “A man has got to know his limitations.” I am a very limited photographer. None the less I do enjoy my photo therapy.
I do not share your disinterest in the 35mm FOV. I do street photography. Three of the FOV favorites are: 28; 35; and 50mm. Some go as long as 85mm. I live in the 35-50mm range. I feel comfortable with longer focal lengths. I frequently take two bodies with me when I walk the street. Two of my favorite combinations are the 35 & 85mm and 35 & 135mm. For me, I dislike the 28mm FOV. It is too wide for me. I am forced to get much closer to my subjects or the frame is frequently empty and/or the subject is too small in the frame.
We have to face our fears and then go through them.

I really like your images in this video. Even if you've captured more than you wanted to, I think it only has been to our benefit as the viewer. The lack of compression or distortion creates a feeling of authenticity and truth in my opinion.
I hope you will struggle onward with it, because this is a great combo.

Great vid. Agree with a lot of what you said. I find myself ignoring my 35mm 1.4 for photography, but I do enjoy it for video work. Would love to hear your thoughts on it for videography sometime. Thanks for the upload!

I've been shooting on my sony 35mm f1.8 for a while now, and I love shooting with it. Compared to the sony 85mm f1.8 it's so light and small. And it 's not very expensive, so definitelly worth a try. I haven't touched any other lenses in a while because it's so much lighter and more comfortable to take with me than a big bulky lens.

I just picked up a Rokinon 35mm f/1.4, and you're right that focal length at 1.4 is HEAVY. But I love the images I get out of it, I only used it on one shoot so far but its a really good lens!
BTW I kinda now wanna re-watch this video set to City Pop music. I dunno why but I feel that vibe from it, especially the evening shots! :3
I agree. 35 always works but I'm never really inspired or amazed by it. I've taken some shots with 24mm that I really love, and also 40mm works better for me. 35 Is great for all kinds of purposes , I just don't get too excited about shooting it.

I think for 35mm focal length street work, it's better to shoot with a smaller camera because you need to get closer. Probably the best option is the Fuji X100 series. The latest one cost the same amount as the SONY 35mm GM lens. If you want to switch to a different 35mm, what about the Sigma 35mm f/2 contemporary. I believe it has the aperture ring around the lens, which is nice.
I own a Sony R body and it’s given a new lease of life to my 35mm GM. It gives me a 50mm in crop mode at around f2 which is awesome. I noticed you use crop mode in the video.
Traditionally I love 35mm but I’ve been drawn to 50mm a lot more in my latter years with photography. I suspect I like 50mm more right now but 35mm is also so versatile.
Having enough MP to use crop mode is very good, especially with a 35mm. Jumping to 50mm can give a very different perspective and help with composing

You're taking some beautiful photos, and the music is very pleasant too. I take it you are using this lens on a full frame camera; on my aps-c Canon R7 i prefer the 28mm f1.4, also by Sigma, but its heavier to the 35 by almost 200 grams! Only for interior work though, on a tripod. For street photography I have a much lighter canon 28mm with image stabilization, but it's not so good (neither am I as a street photographer). 🙂 Thanks from Greece.

Have you tried the Sigma 35 f2 DG DN? It might not be as fast as yours (for street it might not be a big issue), but its build quality, sharpness, dimensions and weight are quite decent.
For me, I like 35mm when you shoot much closer. Many of the shots you took would look very similar with a 50mm. When you get closer with a 35mm, you get an interesting kind of separation between the subject and background because the background feels much further away than with a 50mm and you get more of the background in the image with the same framing of the subject as with a 50mm. It creates a more cinematic (for lack of a better term) look. Idk, just my opinion.

Maybe a really silly question but i am just wondering.. on 3:57 you focus on the person and take a picture. Right after you aim a bit at the sky before taking another photo. Does it have a certain reason to aim a bit more for the sky? To read another exposure or? You make great pictures and video's and i like your editing :)
Thanks for commenting, yes sometimes I reach for the sky, lock exposure and recompose. I find it more intuitive and faster than using manual mode or dialing up or down the exposure compensation.
I saw that you shoot with one hand sometimes, even with the camera not at your eye. How fast a shutter speed do you use in that scenario to not get a blurry image?
Usually pretty high, most of the time I set my minimum shutter speed to 1/250

There is a Sigma 35/2 DG DN, it's lighter and looks so much better! Highly recommended if you are looking for a lighter 35mm.

Usually a neck strap that I can also wrap around my wrist so it serves both purposes
excited to use my sigma 35mm art and 85mm on my D850, not taking my 28-75mm on this trip. These primes are very heavy yes (4lbs 11oz 85mm on D850), but the quality will be outstanding. Having a good sling helps. Used to hump around a Bronica S2a that was a beast, stayed in the car most of the time...... just looked up the weight of the S2a (4lbs body only) - oh god help me. hahaha. I have a better strap which is a sling- peak design.

Great photos! I totally understand you. The camera industry should start focusing on a lighter, optically perfect, 1.7/1.8 setup. I envy this to Leica Q/Q2 users...Or try to switch to GM 1.4 ? I know it's only 100 grams lighter, but it still makes a difference. :)
Yeah but it's hella expensive. On full frame 1.8 should be enough so I might try a lens in the 1.8 category
@@adriensanguinettithe sigma 35mm dg dn is fun to use. So is the Sony 35mm 1.8 and Sony 40mm G (tiny lens). The Sigma is a beautiful lens in construction. It’s slightly wider than 35mm by the way…

I greatly prefer 35mm. 24mm distorts people too much for the way I like to take portraits. 50mm is too tight. Everything is a portrait and I struggle to capture the scene with it. With a 35 I can capture, the scene, the players, and the details.
