Surprised you haven't had Pat Benatar before this. Her harder hits are: "Heartbreaker," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Treat Me Right," "Fire and Ice," "Invincible," and her softer hits include "Shadows of the Night," "Love Is A Battlefield," and "We Belong."
Painted 🏜.
Agree with ALL.
This is 'harder' than Hit Me and Invincible, at least.
Right On. I'm surprised also.
Why does it have to be termed or phrased harder hits ? Why is there this assumption that everybody wants something that's hard fast crazy and all over the place. There are people out here who love hard rock that is melodic. But I guess it's not cool hip and edgy to think and speak that way.
She is one of the best vocalist! Love her. Her husband Neil Gerardo has been her guitarist since the beginning.
Neil Giraldo
Neal plays a great axe! 🎸
And they still tour together
Also wrote their music and Pat refused to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without him.
pat benatar and Ann wilson two of the best ever !
Great call! Ann is my favourite ever.
May we add Melissa and Joan?
Melissa E. and Joan Jett. Yes!!
@@Mare_bear738 Them's the ladies of Rock
Pat definitely the best so many hits and that voice
Pat Benatar - Hell is for children - live
Can’t wait until they experience Hell
Yes, Live in New Haven!
Yes. That song made me cry. That song made me angry. And it made me love her.

Absolutely a powerful song to listen to
Pat was just recently inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll.Hall of fame and the guitarist is her husband of almost forty years which is really cool
Over 40 years now. They were married in '82.
@@jackgilchrist And their label was not happy about it either, but she refused to hide it for popularity. She was openly clear she was not available and never would be. Her and Neil are one of the better love stories that the entertainment world has ever had imho.
BOTH were recently inducted. She refused to accept an invitation without Neil, as he is the genius behind their sound.
boy, you picked the perfect first song
Pat is definitely one of the most powerful female rock voices ever. She had the second video ever played on MTV as well.
5feet of pure power!!! Pat is still amazing!!!
What you’re hearing is actually pretty tame for her. She can sing opera.
Pat had a 7 octive vocal range....the biggest of any rock singer at that time. Neil "Spider" Gerard , the guitarist, and Pat were married and still are. They are also still touring together and still sound incredible.
Neil Giraldo, not Gerard
She was one of my favorite rock artists to catch live as a teenager!!! Such a tour de Force!! I was infatuated by her feminine power🎉🎉🎉❤ she always brought it and blew the roof off, with her searing vocals and killer band!!
OK 7 octave is a bit ridiculous. A piano only has 11. Pat on American Bandstand told Dick Clark that she had a 3 1/2 to 4 octave range.
@@darrinashby9019After looking it up her range is 4.5 octives.
However there is a singer that has a 10 octive range (Tim Storm).
@@darrinashby9019 Yes. Ann Wilson has a 3.5 octave range, with full control at both ends; Pat Benatar has a somewhat broader range: 4 to 4.5, again with excellent control at both extremes. Those two women show that range, per se, is not the main criterion for vocal excellence. Another female vocalist with a 3.5 octave range who had complete control throughout is Karen Carpenter.
I love that her husband just smile's so big at her at the end.
She ruled the 80s as a female singer. You guys need to listen to more of her music she has a huge music catalog......one of the greats for sure
She started as a classical vocalist, but thank goodness she switched to rock . . .
She trained as an opera singer!! So happy she switched to Rock!! ❤❤
@@danarussell1291 You should read her book, Between a Heart and a Rock Place. Pretty good!
rock queen of the 80's.. still sounds great today
She has a great catalog of hits. You’re gonna love her. ❤
This is just one of the many great tunes from Pat and her hubby. What chemistry and talent. There is so much talent and power from Pat that would put everyone to shame nowadays. The staggering amount of incredible music we have from the 1960s through the 90s makes it unnecessary to acknowledge what is around today.
Right On!
Patty and her guitarist have been married forever.
She's from the general area I grew up in.
Oh, and "Love is a Battlefield" is another great Pat Benetar tune you'd probably like.
She has a lot to pick from though.
That is what she sounds like live
That's a recording looped over a Live performance
I agree...I know this is the studio recording for the video but she sounded this good live
I was lucky enough to see her live in concert 1981 and 1982 and she sounds exactly the same. She’s fire live 🔥 ❤❤❤
She has such a big catalog . Her voice is amazing. A classical singer and then changed to rock. 😊
One of if not the best Rock female rock vocalists ever .
She has been married to Neil Giraldo, the guitar player since 1982.
Pat Benatar...Fire and Ice, Shadows of the Night, Heartbreaker, Treat Me Right, Heartbreaker and several more I can't think of.
All that voice in a 5 foot gal!! She has so much power. Thank you, Mary!
Pat Benetar and Ann Wilson of Heart were the big women vocalist of that era and they’re still going strong. We Belong was a huge record for her back then.
The marriage & musical partnership of Pat and Neil (guitarist) blew up the 80’s and continues today!
The second video aired on MTV - You Better Run
Great Video!
If I remember correctly, Pat had the 2nd video played on MTV, after "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles, when it premiered in 1981.
And the song was?
@@billallen1307 You Better Run
Glad you brought this up.
People needs to recognize.
Her husband is also the guitar player Neil Giraldo and driving force behind most of the music AND wrote for other artists as well....
They do not have a bad song.
I remember having a crush on her as a kid.
Late 70's early 80's she was crushing it on the radio.
Another Band during this time you should listen to with another great Singer, Rindy Ross, is Quarterflash.
Good reaction, got my Sub for this one.
:)
She is still performing. You should hear her sing this live at Austin City Limits. She still sounds great
I love that you kids are getting introduced to some of the best music ever which you weren't around to experience when it was originally released. Another Pat Benatar tune I think you'd like is "We Belong". She has killer pipes.
Pat is an American diva. She's a trained opera vocalist and my favorite female rock star. Great reaction!
A petite classically trained singer that can can belt it out, combined with the killer guitar and awesome beat. What more can you ask for? So many great songs in her rock catalog. Live Hell is for Children, and Fire & Ice are 2 other favorites.
"Hell is for children" is a MONSTER. Not what it sounds like...it's a well crafted song and the vocals are amazing.
Definitely my favorite song of theirs. It hits home for me.
💥 Pat Benatar and her band were/are excellent! The vocals, lyrics, the guitars, the drums 🥁. Those drums are so good, too! " Hell Is For Children" (live), "Heartbreaker," "Love Is A Battlefield," and many more! Yes, I believe Pat was the first female and 2nd music video ever played on MTV. Great reaction, Sam and Phil. Much ❤😊
"Fire And Ice" is one of my favorites by Benatar.
Pat is one of the greatest vocalists ever - 19 top 40 hits, she can sing anything . Hell is for Children, Invincible, Fire and Ice, Heartbreaker etc etc. Yes Pat's voice is like a cornered Puma! Good comments.
I love anxiety. Pat benatar is rock-n-roll royalty 🤘😎🤘
Hell is for Children, Heartbreaker, We Belong-all fantastic songs by Pat. I saw her in concert just before the pandemic & she still sounds & looks amazing. Keep going!
Nice reaction, Neil Gerardo is one of the most under rated guitar players out there. Every one of Pats songs has a great solo in it and he wrote them all.
Absolutely. Dude's sense of melody is off the charts. Neil Schon is another like that.
Listen to Heartbreaker, her first hit, if you want to hear how high her voice goes.
Her Husband Neil Giraldo is the most underrated Guitar Players to this very day!
Yeah, Pat Benatar is a Rock Star! She trained as an Opera singer early on. Hubby Neil Giraldo is also a big part of the story. Neil was playing with Rick Derringer's band when in 1979 Producer/Writer, Mike Chapman called him up as he was looking for someone to team up with Pat.
Her words... "I signed to Chrysalis Records and the company put together a group of studio musicians. We were putting things together and doing demos with wonderful studio musicians. It just wasn’t raunchy enough. It wasn’t rock enough. I mean, it sounded beautiful, but it wasn’t what I meant. I met with Mike Chapman a few times and I told him what I was trying to do, so he said he had a guy. So, Spyder came down the day I was doing auditions for the other band members and just came so we’d meet. He was already too accomplished to audition. He came in with everybody else. I didn’t know he was there. Someone told me Neil Giraldo was there, but I didn’t turn back.
Then, I heard someone behind me say, “Hey, man, can I borrow your axe?” And I thought, oh my gosh, he didn’t even bring his guitar? I was ready to turn around and skewer him. Then I saw him and that was the end of that. My brain literally shut down, the rest of my body lit up on fire. I tried to compose myself, like “What the hell are you doing?” I was madly in love with him. I composed myself, shook his hand, and he got on stage to play the most unbelievable guitar chord I have ever heard. I wouldn’t have worked with him if he hadn’t been the right guy, the right guitar player, but he was exactly what I was looking for."

This song was the first song they wrote about this first meeting and their relationship. Heck, Pat was still married to another person when they met and fell in love! What a meeting of the ages. I for one thank that lucky moment.
Seen her live only once and it was fire. Great reaction, great suggestion, Thank you Mary.
I'd suggest you check out 'Invincible' next but she has a huge catalog. 'All Fired Up', Sex As A Weapon', 'Fire and Ice' just to name a few. All fire btw.
Cheers.
"You Better Run" official video Pat with attitude!
She's a trained opera singer and her and her guitar player are still married to this day.
Pat Benatar and Joan Jett WERE MY 80S ❤🤘
She does an AMAZING duet with Sheryl Crow called, "I Shall Believe"
Myron is SUCH an underrated drummer
And now for "Hell is for Children." One that she always sings at all of her concerts, even today.
Ass-kicking singer with the vocal chops to back it up. Saw her a couple years ago and she's still got the voice. She had 5 platinum and 2 multi-platinum albums in the 80s. Classic videos back then. "Love is a Battlefield", "Invincible", "Shadows of the Night", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "We Belong", "We Live For Love", on and on and on. Guitarist is husband Neil Gerardo.
Guitar player is her husband.
This is why they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Enjoy!👍❤️
Happily they were inducted when the ceremonies were in Cleveland as he's a native Clevelander (from Parma). the Induction Ceremonies rotate cities.
Pat Benatar was the 2nd artist to appear on MTV when it began ! She is 🔥🧨🎆
She is one of the best female rock singers of all time. She was also the 2nd video ever played on MTV "You Better Run".
Pat Benatar and your husband (the lead guitarist) were finally inducted into the Rock ' N' Roll Hall of Fame last year.
Saw her twice. Man can she rock and sings like a angel.
You better give Pat and Neil a lot more hears, They are awesome
We Belong by Pat Benatar! 😎🔥🤘🎸
You might also want to catch Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield," "Shadows in the Night." and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot."
Pat Benatar ruled the early days of MTV! Not only is she talented, she was hitting her stride at the exact right time for “beautiful” video friendly musicians!
She was my ex wife’s fav! 2nd only to Janis Joplin!
Peace, from beautiful Lake Country BC
I saw her live in 2012 and she still sounded this good! She is truly one of the greats! She still performs to this day and sounds amazing.
"You Better Run" , "I'm Gonna Follow You" are a couple of Pat Benatar's great tunes you could listen to. She's an awesome singer, with an excellent band .
AWESOME singer with a powerful voice. she was huge in 80s and still going strong. saw her in concert and she still has the powerful voice.
Pat had the second video ever played on the new network MTV in 1981 with "You Better Run"
their video for you better run was the second song ever played on MTV when it first came on air. their love story is legendary her and Neil the guitar player have been married for 40+ years !!!
One of my favorite female vocalist ever.
Fire and Ice is awesome by Pat Benetar ❤❤❤
Pat Benatar is a rock goddess! This is a rabbit hole definitely worth exploring.
Heartbreaker was her first banger that put the rock world on notice!
Love is a Battlefield, song of my youth! 🔥
My favorite female singer, period.
Heartbreaker and We Belong Together are must-listens!
How does that voice and power come from such a tiny woman. Before I die I need a duet with Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson. Niel is also such an underrated guitarist (and Pat's husband), he fills in so much sound with such a small band.
I've seen her twice and they are one of those bands that actually sound better live than in the studio
Love Pat's songs. I still play her CD greatest hits in my car. ❤
So MANY great songs of hers.... the first song I ever heard of hers..was Hell Is For Children...check it out.
She is a legend. Still married to her husband, Neil Geraldo, who plays guitar in the band. He’s an amazing guitarist who played guitar on many studio tracks from many other artists. She has so many great songs.
Both Pat and her husband on lead guitar, Neil Gerardo were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a year or so ago. Althought Pat was classically trained as an opera singer she's a hard rocker. This performance is a banger. Thank you. She has a ton of hits.
You are right. The band is playing that song live, but they dubbed over the studio recording.
wow, how has nobody suggested Pat Benatar before...love her voice
Just to let you know this was truly a live show although i could not tell you the venue of this show. However, we saw her on this same tour at the Palace in Houston Dec 17, 1979. Oddly i was only there because i had seen their promo poster the week before because there was no radio promo for the show. There were only about 10 people in the whole club maybe because it was a cold and wet Monday night but when the band came out on stage Pat announced that since we paid money to see them that they were going to do the show. It was a great show as you could see and after the show the band came down and mingled with the us. Played pinball with her and the bass player the rest of the night while my girlfriend was off probably with the rest of the band. It was a great time for music in America. Thanks for the review.
PAT'S GOT PIPES!!! SHE is SO GOOD!!! ENJOY, YOU-GUYS!!!
Yes yes yes. My fav. Song by her! Trained Opera singer.
Pat Benetar was one of my first pre-teen crushes. LOL!! Her voice rings like a bell. I saw her in concert live two times. The guitarist is her husband, and I know that they've been married since the early 80s and still going strong... proving spouses can work well together and stay married. LOL!
Pat is a class all by herself, still performing now. She married the guitar , Neal Gilrado, great songwriter and guitarist. A lot of hits in the 80's
Absolute best Power Duo in Pat and Neil Gerardo (Lead Guitarist) they have been married over 40 yrs. Pat was classically trained in Opera before switching to Rock, and we are all better for it. Drummer Myron Grombacher is a beast on the drum kit. Band is perfection live. Loved your reaction we all felt the same way when we seen them the first time way back when MTV started early 80s. They are still performing and still sound awesome!
Myron on the drums! Mans an animal!
Yeeess! Pat is amazing. Please bring us more hits from her
One of the best female vocalists of all time❤
Her husband is one of my all time favorite guitar players and this solo is at the top of my list too.
It was the studio version. However the live version really matched it completely!!!!
Love your reaction to Pat Benatar. Just love her. Some other great songs are "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Heartbreaker", and "Love is a Battlefield".
My fave from her. It doesn’t sound dated and it never gets old.
All Fired Up by Pat Benatar! 😎🔥🤘🎸
Pat has 4 full octives. Originally trained for opera. Her husband is the guitar player and he was so underrated.
Pat IS A STAPPLE rock star of her time.
Greatest vocalist of all time
Great reaction !! I met Pat Benatar in 2017 at a meet and greet. She is so damn cool and very nice. I also met her husband who is the guitar player in the band Neil Geraldo ( Spyder) . The concert was amazing and her voice is still amazing. Please react to Pat Benatar live 1983 - Hell is for children or Heartbreaker . The whole concert is amazing. Cheers !!
Pat is classically trained so she REALLY knows how to use that amazing vocal instrument of hers! She and her husband - guitarist Neil Giraldo - are still going strong...both domestically and performance-wise.
We always heard that Pat Benatar was an Opera trained triple octave singer. The guitarist is her husband, and they are still together.
“Heartbreaker” live HQ best performance 1982 New Haven Coliseum rocks. Pat and the band at their peak.
Got to see her twice back in the 80's, she's one of my favourites, so many good songs, and Myron is a fantastic drummer !
ABSOLUTE BANGER! 🔥
She had a great band with her in the early days that helped get her started.
