PAT BENATAR FACTS
-Patricia Mae [Benatar] Giraldo, known professionally as Pat Benatar was born January 10, 1953 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York.
-Rock singer and songwriter, she’s had two multiple platinum albums, five platinum albums, and 15 Billboard top 40 singles; in Canada she has had eight straight platinum albums and has sold over 35 million albums worldwide.
-Four time Grammy Award winner and will [FINALLY!] be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2022.
-Pat was inspired to pursue a singing career after being inspired by a Liza Minnelli concert she saw in Richmond.
-One of the few American artists making videos before MTV went on the air.
-In the relationship department, things worked out quite well for Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, lead guitarist. They married in Maui in 1982 and have been together ever since.

PROMISES IN THE DARK SONG FACTS
-Although boyfriend, at the time, Neil Giraldo usually wrote a majority of their songs, Pat wrote this song in 1980 and initially and slipped the words under the door of their music room.
-The song speaks of trials and tribulations of past relationships and how they affect a current relationship.
-Neil knew early on that this song had hit potential and stated “I thought it was deep in a really good way. I think that it was a commercial hit, but I love the expression of the melody. It gave a lot of room for the vocal to be powerful”. Initially a ballad, Giraldo put the song tempo up in a rehearsal after coming up with the guitar riff. Once the changes in tempo came together it was clear to him that they “had it”.

In the “making of” bonus footage at the end, you might see me counting on my fingers. 😁 Yes, it’s something I have to do when dissecting the song to keep track of time signatures and other counts.
I didn’t hear anything new in this song through this process but I did get goosebumps, as per usual, in the beginning the first time she says, “Just when you think you got it down”. You know a piece of music is good when it gives you goosebumps every time you hear it for your entire life.
Pat Benatar was one of my staple sources of music growing up, like Led Zeppelin, Heart, Journey, Rush and Pink Floyd. Lots of love for the music and tons of respect for her and the band.
My recommended musician this time hails from Canada (although the singer is Peruvian) and probably has one of the most unique voices and singing styles I’ve ever heard. It does something for me, that’s for sure and it’s hard to choose just one song (Their album Hybrid is AMAZING). Their sound is a mix of jazz, downtempo, rock, classical and electronic. I HIGHLY recommend:

@@shotaholic1 I think I have run across him once or twice, but often times, if someone has heard the song I'm doing I won't use them. It's much more interesting to see someone hear something for the first time, of course. The exception would be if it's a popular song that most people have heard in some way, but will say something about that somewhere. I'll have to check him out tho!

Got to see Pat Benetar in San Diego in 1981, She is only line 5’-1” …a former Opera Singer, at one point in the concert She sang
a cappella ….talk about Pure Gifted Clear Strong Beautiful Voice…I never forgot that performance!
She has had a great band behind her all these years including on guitar her husband Neil Geraldo. I had the pleasure of seeing her on this tour in Seattle in 1979 and she was great then and still is today.
Pat's voice was just pure power packed into a tiny frame.

This has always been one of my favorite songs and what's amazing is that she still sings it in the SAME KEY--which is kinda rare with aging rockers--high notes and all. She's wonderful.

Fun fact: I’ve lived in many big cities over the years…and was a teen during Pat’s heyday in the 80’s…but my gf and I finally saw Pat and Neil in concert where? Of all places, Enid, OK….on June 16, 2016. She sounded just as good as she did 40 yrs ago! Met Pat and Neil’s current drummer Chris Ralles after the show, too…just two drummers talking shop. Very kind and genuine guy. If you ever get a chance to see this couple live, don’t hesitate…go! You’ll know most every song and there’s a lot of crowd interaction. Great show!!!
So happy I was in high school during these times. We had EPIC music from childhood to our teenage years. We were blessed.

Love Pat Benatar, and this has always been one of my favorite songs from her. As you mentioned in your pinned comment, definitely a chill-bump song for me too, for so many reasons. She was also my first concert back in high school (1983, the _Get Nervous_ tour; Red Rider (Lunatic Fringe) was the opening act). Yeah, I'm that old, lol.
Neil Giraldo has also always been one of my favorite guitarists - even more than some of the bigger name guys with flashier chops. I remember reading an interview long ago where he said he tries to make his solos and fills very vocal-like, and I think it really shows in many of their songs. Musicians like him are sort of like the character actors of the rock world: often unsung but nonetheless brilliant.
Your editing is, as always, outstanding and engaging. And I especially appreciate the making-of sequences you've been including. It drives home just how labor-intensive these montage vids really are, not to mention the extra work of actually including such extensive making-of footage as well!
Finally, I've been wanting to commend you on your artwork (I'm assuming it's you who does the reactor collages, and your own avatar). You are enviably talented on multiple fronts, and I think it's a big reason your channel is growing so much. You deserve any success that comes your way.
And about the most fun song playing bass guitar for this live. It's just a total blast with a good band and singer, and we frikiing nailed it!!!
