The guitarist, Neil Giraldo, was and is her husband. They've been married since 1982. He's an excellent guitarist, too.
Not only have Pat Benatar and Neil "Spider" Giraldo been married since 1982 and performing together since 1979, they still tour to this day. I just saw them in concert two years ago. He still shreds and she can still belt out those vocals. "Hell is for Children" is probably her most hard rock vocals of anything in her catalog. One of my all-time favorite female rock vocalists. Mandolina, you might also want to listen to Beth Hart. She is mostly known as one of the greatest blues singers of all time, but she has some rockers as well. Try her version of "Black Coffee".
@@eluv9660 That's sweet and extremely rare
It's from a few years ago, but this Tiny Desk performance shows that years later they have been one of the most affectionately cute couples for many years. ruclips.net/video/yxteG1thK5I/видео.html
Her song " hell is for children " is powerful
The live version will break your heart.
@@Krieghandt I was about to suggest "Hell is for Children." I snoozed; I losed.
Definitely!
#SOFUCNTRUE
Yes it is. I was about to recommend it myself.
"Love is a Battlefield", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Heartbreaker", "We Belong" - she has a BUNCH of great songs. One of the premier female voices in rock history.
The hits keep coming with Pat I was pissed when she married the guitar player I thought I had a shot LOL
@@BromleyBoy2611 Her, Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks.
@@bobbyc3895 I would add Ann Wilson, of Heart
Pat Benatar had one of the strongest voices. She was the opposite of most other female singers, who usually sang passive songs about being heartbroken. Benatar's songs said, "If you mess with me, I'll kick your ass!"
Benatar and her band did change their music after their early rock stardom. They played more radio-friendly pop songs like "We Belong" and "Love Is A Battlefield". They were accused of "selling out": softening their music to get more airplay on mainstream radio stations.
Here are some of her best songs:
Heartbreaker
You Better Run
We Live For Love
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Hell Is For Children
Treat Me Right
Interestingly, Fire & Ice is still my favorite song from her. Unbelievable switch from the slow lead-in to the powerful belting voice.
Heck yes….8 platinum Albums for a reason. Pat….love her. The husband is the lead guitarist. They are still together forever.
She is tiny, but her voice is gigantic. Top notch vocalist. Powerful performances, live is amazing, one of my all-time favorites. Seen her live, and you literally can feel her power hit you in the face. Love her!
Pat was a trained opera singer with a 4-5 octave range, but her true love was rock. When I first saw her in concert in the early 80's, everyone in the crowd was saying, "How can anyone sound this amazing live!" She could sing raspy and gritty one moment and then have these soaring high notes the next.
Nice reaction, Neil Giraldo is one of the most under rated guitar players ever. Every Pat Benatar song has a killer guitar solo and he wrote them all.
She's a Trained Opera singer !
Crazy that she sings Arias to warm up.
Pat Benatar could lure you in close with a soft sweet voice, and then belt your head off. Always one of my very favorite singers!
Pat was one of the best female singers in the 70's and 80's, Great artist
The 80s rock music had so many great female lead singers.
80s rock/pop metal is definitely your thing. 🙂👍 And yeah, she is the real deal as a singer. Puts others to shame. “Love Is A Battlefield” is her biggest hit, along with “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”.
She has a lot of great songs. Her husband, the guitarist, is very personable, attractive and a wonderful guitar player. Their fans love them and they still perform. 😊😊❤❤
She is also famous for her video of "You Better Run" being the 2nd ever video to appear on MTV when it started back in 1981.
Unfortunately MTV is crap now. It use to be soooo good.
She is one of the top women in rock history.
Pat Benatar has one of the greatest voices in rock ‘n’ roll history in my opinion
It's not an opinion it's a fact my friend. OXOX
You'll have to check out Pat singing Love is a Battlefield.
Pat's "Hell is for children" is powerful!
Pat is a legendary rock bad ass
Pat still Married to the lead Guitarist for over 40 years is Still touring with her Husband is smaller more intimate venues she has Quite the Hit list here are Just 5 for you
1) Hell is for Children
2) love is a Battlefield
3) We Belong
4) Heartbreaker
5) Hit me with you best shot
Bonus : ( We live for Love ) I hope you Enjoy these suggestions
As always the like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 😊
Note : opening up Pat Benitar is Like opening a Giant can of woop ass 😂
Pat Benatar is awesome little lady has power pipes
Pat is one of my favorite artists ever. Opera trained 4 octave singer and she's barely 5 ft. tall. Just a powerhouse voice. Elected to the rock and roll hall of fame last year. So many huge hits in the 80s. Heartbreaker is a must reaction. Btw, that hot guitarist has been her husband since 1982.
Pat Benatar is an awesome lady! She'd been nominated many times for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but turned them down because the nomination didn't include her husband, Neil Giraldo (the Guitarist). She only accepted after they acknowledged his contribution to their success and nominated him alongside her. They've been married forever!
I love this song she is one of the best female vocalists ever. Still sounds great today. The 80s rule always.
Pat Benatar is the queen!!!!!!!!!
She is one of the most powerful voices you'll encounter ❤
"Fire and Ice" is another video from this performance by Pat and Neil.
“Heartbreaker” live in New Haven was their best, most awesome hard rocking performance. And Pat is so hot.
Absolutely, one of the best shows they ever did, Neil is a monster on Heartbreaker there. Gave me chills when I first saw it!
Pat Benatar is a classically trained vocalist. She REALLY knows how to use her instrument! She's got great range, knows how to color and control it for different effects, can sing pure and can also growl, as you noted - she's one of the strongest of rock vocalists. She stands just 5'0" and she's very slight - you wouldn't think, looking at her, that she could possibly generate such vocal power.
One of the underrated singers i think of the 80s. A lot of good songs...All Fired Up, Running with the Shadows are great songs.
She sings what the song calls for. She started out with opera training as a mezzo-saprano. Then she had specialized training as a coloratura soprano at Julliard in NYC. This is why she still has such power
Actually, Pat never attended Juilliard. Thought about it, but went to a state school of New York for only a year [to study health education], then she left school to marry Dennis Benatar, her high school boyfriend, in 1972.
The guitarist is her husband and they’re still married today!!
She still rocks in concert these past few years. She will always be a rock star.
Pat Benatar is one of my favorite go-to’s for karaoke
This is a classic, she is still on top of her game!
She's always been such a huge influence for me, on and off stage. Incredibly talented, vocally trained, powerful, grounded artist. I finally saw them (Pat and her husband Neil/Spider) Live years ago and just WOW. You could have heard a pin drop when she came out, JUST TO WARM UP. Unbelievable
She stills tours (71 y.o.) and sounds just as good as she ever did. Austin City Limits gave her the whole hour this year and it was excellent.
Been singing since she was only 4 years old and still going strong. And Pat is classically trained. Never autotuned like so many of the artists today.
Love is a battlefield
Pat Benatar, Joan Jet, Ann and Nancy Wilson were the queens of rock music in the 80's.
She is and always have been a highly respected female powerhouse..
😊
Her song "Suffer the little children " hits hard. I don't know if it was released as a single but it's worth a listen.
Pat one of The Best female vocalist of The 80's, love your reaction Miss Bisscute thanks ❤❤❤ you should react to her songs: heartbreaker, we belong and love Is a Battlefield. You should react to other female vocalist from 80's like Alyson Moyet from The duet Yazoo.she was like Adele in that Time
Saw her first show in Houston Dec 79 at a little club in Windsor Plaza. No one showed up. After the show played pin ball with her and the bass player till about 3 in the morning. Great memories of those times.
great Pat benatar We belong , love is a Buttlefield , shadows of the night , for me one of the best female singers i miss those times of music
Pat Benatar is one of the greatest vocalists. She can sing anything. Check out Hell is for Children, Love is a Battlefield, Invincible, All Fired up - she is incredible
I can NEVER get enough of Pat Benatar...my favorite female vocalist of all time! and I'm pushing 56, so I've seen some of the best in that time!!
I was in college in the 80’s. Best music of all time. I saw her live in Lubbock,Tx at the outdoor Tornado Jam concert. Awesomeness 👍😎🥰
Ooh ooh song, shodows of the night, love is a battlefield, all fired up.
Hell yeah! So glad you finally made it to some Pat Benatar! This makes me happy!
"Love is a battlefield "
Thìs "lady" is one of the greatest artists in rock-n-roll. Shes a classically trained singer that went full on rock.
Pat all 4 foot something at 90 pounds and can belt out a song with the best of them & she was my 1st rock crush ❤
Her amazing voice and this new thing called MTV helped boost her career into superstar status
Hi biss, she studied opera whe younger but then discovered rock, she ruled women's rock 80/90. Saw her twice in the 80's, and around 2011, with heart and sheryl crow that night, pat still had the voice pushing 60 👍 shredding the song hertbreaker is very good, for voice hell is for children. she has so many hits , and all sound awesome live
There are so many Pat Benatar songs but a few gems are Heartbreaker, I'm Gonna Follow You, You Better Run, Treat Me Right. There's another of Pat's earlier gem's which is often overlooked and that's her remake of John Mellencamp's 'I Need A Lover', a definite must listen.
Nothing really to add except that being blown away by Pat Benatar is an appropriate and expected first time reaction.
So glad that you got one of her harder edged songs to begin with. My favorites are this, Fire and Ice and the mid-tempo melodic rocker, Shadows of the Night.
P.S. Myron Grombacher, the drummer was one of my earliest heroes, along with Mick Fleetwood and Tommy Lee. All high energy timekeepers with great showmanship.
She was a trained operatic soprano, and was singing cabaret songs in nightclubs when she met Neil Gerardo, guitarist and songwriter. He knew what she was capable of and wrote a few killer songs like this for her. She was also very, very trendy for a while in the 70's and thousands of girls would copy her look, wearing their hair short with a headband and tights with leggings like she did on some of her videos. In the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High there's a whole series of visual jokes about girls doing the Pat Benatar look.
First time I heard Benatar's music was a TV special back in Oct of 87 called 'DTV's Monster Hits'. The song was 'You Better Run', and it showed clips from the original Snow White to the music. The entire special had songs to animation, and might be worth checking out, at least for the tracklist.
The lead guitar player in the band is Pat Benatar’s husband
Pat/Benatar was one of the strongest voices of the 80s! Great Rock n Roll music! I hope you listen to "Love is a battlefield"! Thanks Biss ❤️💛
Hell is for children by Pat I think she puts a lot of emphasis aka (vocal explosion) on the word "Hell" in this song. Keep up the great work and as always keep it cute.
More live Pat Benatar please! "Hell is for Children" is wicked. She made MTV go with her music in the early 80s.
Ex-opera to rock star, what a voice. Long time fan.
Pat's first four or five albums are gold
This is one bad itch. Total rock royalty!
They just did a live concert in Austin, Texas. You should watch that for comparison to how well her vocals have remained. It's great. You'll love it.
Great reaction interesting but good 1st song choice. Pat Benetar was special she could sing like an angel or rock like Black Sabbath. She had it all. To maybe more...... YES do more, since you're familiar 2nd Love Is A Battlefield. After that any of her hits Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Heartbreaker,Treat Me Right, Fire And Ice, and Shadows Of The Night. 🤘🔥👍❤️
Pat Benatar is a legend. Particularly as she was doing rock and hard rock when it wasn't really the norm for a female vocalist the way it is now. It's really nice that young people are discovering and appreciating some of the classic performers from the 70s and 80s... and I definitely think Pat Benatar is overdue for the sort of re-recognition that some of the other greats have had recently. Too many great hits to list but definitely check out more. Shadows Of The Night, We Belong, Love Is A Battlefield, ALL FIRED UP is an especially good one. So many more though.
Neil “Spyder” Geraldo also played the lead guitar in Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” one of the most underrated guitarist ever nothing but tasty licks!
Hell is for children is a strong song by her.
i always for ge thow wonderful pat benatar is, she can sing, and looks amazing and the lyrics, are so true
Pat Benetar, Meatloaf, and Geoff Tate are the only rock vocalists with opera training. That is why they have such ridiculous range and powerful vocals.
Pat had some bangers! "It's a little to little ", "hell is for children ", "all fired up", "heartbreaker", and "we live for love" all worth checking out!
1. I'm glad you finally "met" Pat Benatar
2. I'm glad you didn't start with "Love is a battlefield".
Yes, it is a good song. Yes, it is her most famous song. But technically it is a 80s pop song and far away from her typical (rock) style back in the day.
"Promises in the dark" is more like the style you can expect from here. At least her sound in the 80s.
For live videos I would recommend the Concert from New Haven. Not only because of the songs but for the good video quality.
Songs? These are my five favorites:
- Heartbreaker
- Hell is for children
- Invincible
- Shadows of the night
- All fired up
Pat and Neal are amazing, rocking out since 1980. To see and hear them at their most intense, do Heartbreaker live in New Haven 1983, she is in her prime and in peak mode, plus Neal lets his inner Pete Townsend out in a fiery solo ending in a rock crescendo for the ages. This is a great group, they have tons of excellent tunes. Pat has influenced all the excellent female led bands that are around right now. You will have a ball discovering her stuff. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
ME AND MY SISTER SANDY WOULD JAM THIS SONG INTHE LATE 80'S
Great singer , killer range, Plus Neils guitar work is always spot on!! He also does the guitar solo in Rick Springfield's "jessie's Girl"..
Hello Biss.
Heartbreaker is a great song. MTV sort of took the rock out of her with songs like Hell is for Children and Love is a Battlefield. Her early stuff is much more rockin'.
Try "Heartbreaker" or "Fire and Ice". I love the passion she sings with.
Pat Benatar has a 4 octave voice making her one of the
greatest singers of all time in Rock-n-Roll.
So does Ann Wilson of Heart, btw.
I saw her in concert in the 80s and it was awesome!
Great choice, Bisscute and, great reaction!
😊😊👍👍
Bisscute if you want to hear Pat Benatar's voice explode, "Love is a Battlefield" is definitely one to check out. Also, hello from Michigan.
Pat Benetar was a huge star in the 80s. She was originally a classically trained opera singer, hence that powerful voice. She has a huge catalog of hit songs. I think "Hit me with your best shot", or "Heartbreaker" was their breakout hit. And this band was super tight and crisp live.
Pat Benatar and Anne Wilson were my generations Floor! BYW......That hansom guy you were talking about, that is her husband.
she worked with a classical vocal coach through her teens, and intended to go to college for the performing arts, but instead started performing in the New York club scene.
I got to see her & Neil in San Diego back in '93, it was a fun show :)
My favorite from her is We Belong.
"Love is a Battlefield" is a softer, poppier song from here later albums. I prefer her gritty early songs that are more hard rock. Her first big hit that put her on people's radios in 1980 was "Heartbreaker". There's a video from this same concert you just watched for "Fire and Ice" which is also awesome.
Please more Pat. My teenage heart throb for sure!!!
I believe that's her husband on the Guitar (Neil Giraldo)....he helped her in producing, think some songwriting and pretty much being behind her every step of the way...want to say they've been married since 1980 I think
I LIKE THE US 1982 PERFORMANCE
Great voice! The drummer is very energetic.
You can't see it from this video, but she had a huge influence on female fashion in the early 80s. All the girls I went to school with dressed like Pat Benatar.
Had such a crush on her back in the day. A powerhouse for sure.
She has a great voice, I didn't know this song but she has many good songs, the most famous is Love is a battlefield, probably you listened to it somewhere, the deeper is Hell is for children, the live performance is very strong, bangs your soul.
Youngstown, Ohio's own Myron Grombacher on drums representing!
I've always really enjoyed her singing and music! Great review!
Rock-n-roll royalty!!!🤘😎🤘
I think you would love love You Better Run!
Rock and Hallof Fame last year…. Deserved!
Love Pat Benatar. Biggest injustice was how long it took for the rock HoF to put her in.
