  • They cry in the dark, so you can't see their tears
They hide in the light, so you can't see their fears
Forgive and forget, all the while
Love and pain become one and the same
In the eyes of a wounded child
    Because Hell
    Hell Is For Children
And you know that their little lives can become such a mess
    Hell
    Hell Is For Children
And you shouldn't have to pay for your love with your bones and your flesh
It's all so confusing, this brutal abusing
They blacken your eyes, and then apologize
Be daddy's good girl, and don't tell mommy a thing
Be a good little boy, and you'll get a new toy
Tell grandma you fell off the swing
    Because Hell
    Hell Is For Children
And you know that their little lives can become such a mess
    Hell
    Hell Is For Children
And you shouldn't have to pay for your love with your bones and your flesh
    No, Hell Is For Children
    Hell
    Hell is for Hell
    Hell is for Hell
    Hell Is For Children
    Hell
    Hell is for Hell
    Hell is for Hell
    Hell Is For Children

Pat and Spider, I know you will never see this or know who I am. But I am now 50 y/o retired male cop. I was 10 when this song came out and it saved my life! Thank you guys for this! I will never be able to repay The two of you. You are the reason I am here now, with two daughters who have known no abuse and one is graduating college and the other will in 4 years and wants to be a prosecutor! I love you guys!

You know, it’s pretty damned great when the words of a song can inspire you to change your experience into a learning experience for others. But when you remember so many years later, and reach out to thank those who made it possible, then it’s plainly clear to see that a very young kid did a whole lot of soul-searching because of this song.
You do realize that you weren’t alone. Neither was I.
Thank you for recognizing where your strength emerged, but also in knowing that without the tenacity you had inside, no change could have taken place. You made the change and used that change to help others-your daughters are proof. Thanks again!

The first time I heard her sing this song I don't think I stopped crying for an hour...andevery Every time I heard it after that I still broke down crying. As a survivor of abuse, there is no way to describe the pain you live with all your life. Children of abuse most often find themselves transitioning into domestic abuse situations without even realizing it. The abuse becomes normal and therefore when you go from a parent's physical and emotional abuse to being abused by a partner or spouse you can't see there's anything wrong. It took me years to figure out my self worth and to end the cycle on my own. If the abusers are not willing to admit they did anything wrong it's very hard to break free of it because they can Gaslight you into thinking you're crazy and that what they did or do isn't abuse and they're not hurting you. It's easy to find yourself taking the blame for what someone else does to you when they make it seem as if you hadn't done something to provoke them they wouldn't have hurt you. Many times it also overflows into your own parenting as it passes from generation to generation unchecked. If you know of anyone, child or adult that is being physically or mentally abuse do the right thing and intervene... call the abuse hotline for children and try to speak to your loved one about the abuse they are enduring. Ask them to seek the help they need to escape this prison. Don't let the people you care about be abused.

She is amazing. What I also love about her, as a musician, singer, and fan......is that after 20+ years of playing the same song over and over......she doesn't change it. So many singers get bored and change melodies, which in my mind kills a performance, because the fans want to hear what they know. Fans want to sing along, either out loud or in their heads. The song brings back memories of their youth. The moment the song is changed it kills all of it. Kudos to them for staying true to their music and fans.

You Pat Benatar literally Saved me with this song! It let me know I wasn't Alone In the World of Abuse! My father and my sister engaged in the abuse! He was the physical smack me around jerk and sister was the evil that tried to break My Spirit!
He's Gone.. And her life is Lonely because she abused her own kids!
I raised both of our girls and made sure no one was trying to Hurt them! I survived because I decided to fight bk and with my Mom's help, I escaped the house of Pain and never looked back!
Thank You for Both of You are Truly blessed and write beautiful tune's together Ty for saving my life! Suicide is not the answer to escape the abuse, tell an adult that you trust will be there to help you! 😊

Neil: One of Rocks' most under rated guitar players....extremely agile guitarist, plays from the heart, you can feel the notes....
Bottom Line: What a GREAT musical team....very rare indeed.....

God should just reach down and wring their damn necks for them. These sick pervs aren't worth much at all. Maybe the price of a couple of bullets and even that would be stretching it. Pat gives a strong voice to those that are hurt and still hurting from someone's abuse. May God have mercy on their souls......cause I damn sure don't!!!!!

When I was 10 we became a "foster family" in a small town.
Some of the kids that needed our help were my school mates.
They told me stories that they wouldn't tell anyone else.
They told me stories that I couldn't even imagine.
They told me stories that haunt me to this day.
I'm 56 now, THIS SONG TELLS THEIR STORY...
and I cry like a fuckin' baby every time I hear it.
    Thank you so much Pat,

I am a child abuse and domestic abuse survivor. I am still learning to be strong. One of my childhood abusers apologized. I never forgave. Still haven't. I have not forgiven my domestic abuser either. He apologized and said he'd never do it again. He lied. I have health issues now because of the domestic violence and probably from the child abuse.

Pat Benetar is a Queen of Rock N Roll. Along with Stevie Nicks, Ann & Nancy Wilson, they paved the way for women to make their mark on musical history. Proving they could indeed Rock with the boys.
Pat was lucky to be born with music in her genes. Her mother Millie is a trained opera singer. As fate would have it, her life changed when met Neil Giraldo. Now 30+ years later, Pat & Spyder are STILL going strong. Its hard to believe but Pat celebrated her 60th birthday on 1/10/13. Long Live Rock

I was a kid in a children's hospital who'd just come out of the recovery room after a 12-hour surgery. I was so doped up in morphine I was barely conscious. All I remembered was rather an attractive woman who fell to her knees, crying. It was Pat Benatar who, out of the blue, came to visit us kids with some presents. And despite warnings from nurses and doctors, she insisted on seeing few of us who'd just undergone surgery - not a pretty sight as we were either doped up or going through withdrawl.
I can tell you from experience she's the real deal. She doesn't just sing about kids, or just do lip service. She's a real heartfelt human being. And oh, she also happens to be a kick-ass singer.

Not much but I'm almost 64 and my mom was abused by her Step Dad. Our family all together over that. Mom had a nervous breakdown after me, her last child of 6. Finally one day when I was five she fell down on the floor. she could not walk. went to the doctor, he said you have no blood pressure, you just had a nervous breakdown. She went through shock treatments, chemical kind. we suffered around 6 years. she was on thorazine till she went home at 86.
