This song still makes me cry as a man, because I cried listening to the same song as a boy, except the pain then was different then today, I now know the difference between physical and mental pain. All the abuse from so many adults, I don't know why I'm alive. I went so far as to hang myself as a young man because the pain of my childhood was still deep in my soul. Physical, mental, sexual, religious, and that's just the start of my young life.
I saw Pat at SPAC very early 80's on what I believe was her first national tour...those who know...know. One of the best shows I ever saw! This song helped me to begin the long journey of recovery and to decades later testify at a NYS Senate hearing in the mid Aughties as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, much to the chagrin of many family members. To Pat you will never know the strength you gave me all the times I played this album, head phones on and singing at the top of my lungs along with you...forever grateful...thank you!

I've been to a LOT of concerts. My single greatest concert experience is seeing this song performed live... It was pouring rain, my wife and I were right up against the fence, I look over and there is this incredible blonde standing on the bottom rail of the fence, completely soaked, fists all clenched, singing and crying her eyes out. I don't know her story, but 20 years later that one concert moment tops all of them. Must have been something. Marvin Grombacher is probably the most under-rated drummer ever and Neal Geraldo is one of the most under-rated guitarists..
I just saw her live 3 days ago. I never knew the history of this song and she explained it. I cried too. I'm a survivor of abuse as an adult . and I can't explain... it was like an intense cathartic experience. It really affected me. I have so much respect for her and Neil, I always knew her music from the 80's but wasn't a huge fan, and thought of her as a "pop rocker" who looked good. Boy, was I wrong. I have so much respect and and am in awe of the talent that her and Neil possess. And, btw, she looked fabulous and her voice was as strong as ever.
Kevin Ryan, more than likely, the blonde u were referring to was acting out her emotions through the lyrics from which she suffered as a child. Its difficult to know one's cry for help on the inside, despite how we may look on the outside
I remember all the abuse they took over this song. Child abuse was not deemed appropriate for rock and roll. If not, what the hell is rock and roll for if not to point out things in our society that we don't feel comfortable talking about. As one who grew up in the 60's, I know what music can mean. This was a great performance of music, but an even greater message.

this was my life I stopped the chain with my own children but the pain is still fresh and real songs that reach are soul are what help us heal unfortunately my kids know nothing of my past and no longer talk to me but I hope some day they return but the most important is I broke the chain
This song draws us to children who are abused in every way. It reminds us that, while our lives move forward everyday, there are little hearts breaking from abuse. Sadness......that's what is portrayed here.
I saw pat 3 yrs ago,,,and they STILL play this song every concert! And MAN,did she kill it! She hit every note with power and control that only comes from having a god given incredible voice that she has at her age! SHE IS STILL THE REIGNING QUEEN OF ROCK!!!!

She crushed this tune! All natural vocals and no auto tune doing the work for her! No samples. That band is playing every single note! This is such a dark tune about child abuse. She delivered that message so powerfully!
This song is used to great effect at the end of an episode of Mindhunter season 2. I didn't know it before, but had to pause and look it up right away. Some songs are just a punch in the gut.
Same here, I knew it was Pat Benatar but didn't really know the song...one good thing about all this technology is being able to instantly research this shit...
Giraldo was highly rated in the early to mid 80's. I played guitar in a band in '82. I walked into a guitar store that year, and one of the employees was showing people a lick that Neil had recorded. All guitarists knew who he was.
Or when I "hear" it... Pat had one of the most RAW sounding female rock voices evahh!!! And her hair was PERFECT during the 1980's. She was the epitome of SEXY ROCK MAMA!!!
Goosebump time at 4:00 with the power in her vocals! Truly unmatched - it's beyond awesome watching Pat belt it outta the park. And she makes it look almost effortless. Truly in a league all her own - just legendary.
They really got it right with this song. I know, as I was severely abused by a doctor on Long Island when I was a kid. I am so glad they never stopped performing it, despite the criticism. It is probably one of the greatest songs ever written. Quietly, but definitely so.
I remember when this song dropped when I was in high school and I was in a foster home because I was being physically abused by my mother at home. If you get into blind rages and beat on my sisters and I. When I first heard the song I knew the lyrics for she even sang them... Thank you Pat and your guitar 🎸 SPIDER who made this one of the hottest ines of the late 1970s. Well the song is over and Mom has died in 1991 of a fast-moving cancer that took her life within 2 weeks of being diagnosed. A shock to the whole family and many pieces they have been scattered the last 40 + years.....
Saw her open for Journey with Loverboy as well. She was outstanding. She blew me away. Never did like Loverboy. Pat should have had their stage time. High school class of 86, and I've always loved Pat. Amazing
I was so in love with her when I was only a teen. I love this song and yes this song is about children suffering. I was one of them. Thank you Pat for bringing awareness for us.
True. Madonna broke out and became big about 6 months before the Live Aid concert in 1985, so she was really only a top selling artist for the second half of the decade, whereas Pat was already successful before the decade started.
@@garym6338 Pat was a true talent and kicked ass !! Madonna had talent, but she tried to shock people to get attention!! I met Pat in 2017 and she still kicks ass!!
The sound is not the greatest, but I love this video. Just watching the look on Pat's face when she turns to her band, and implores them to kick it into high gear, because she wants the audience to feel the impact of the song and the lyrics. Classic. Pat was truly one of the best.

This woman RAWKS! Her voice is unmatched. Been jammin to her and Neil for years. And your hubby kills on the guitar!
My mother was a foster mother for 30 years. I’ve seen it all. You’d be surprised how far a ball, glove and a bat would go with these kids. Something we take for granted. Just someone to play with them. That’s just a start.
Stevie Nicks& Pat Benatar were my 2 favorite female singers in that era.😅
this was my life I stopped the chain with my own children but the pain is still fresh and real songs that reach are soul are what help us heal unfortunately my kids know nothing of my past and no longer talk to me but I hope some day they return but the most important is I broke the chain
This song draws us to children who are abused in every way. It reminds us that, while our lives move forward everyday, there are little hearts breaking from abuse. Sadness......that's what is portrayed here.
Pat in her Prime...can't get much better than this
I saw pat 3 yrs ago,,,and they STILL play this song every concert! And MAN,did she kill it! She hit every note with power and control that only comes from having a god given incredible voice that she has at her age! SHE IS STILL THE REIGNING QUEEN OF ROCK!!!!
Awesome
Miss Pat Benetar,
This song got me through a lot of hard times. Thank you for singing about what so many of us have gone through. You rock.
Sincerely;
Stephan
Back in the day when this song first came out a lot of people didn't understand it but I absolutely 🌹💕💙 and now that I'm a old man will protect any child that I can because I've lived my life and want every child to have a chance nothing but respect ✌️ and lots of 💕 to all
ICON FOREVER Thank you 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Just classic pat benatar
It is about child abuse. It is a powerful song. Sad because of the children who is abused
this how you bring awareness to light , not a new subject , those that know , know. we where the 80s .
She crushed this tune! All natural vocals and no auto tune doing the work for her! No samples. That band is playing every single note!
This is such a dark tune about child abuse. She delivered that message so powerfully!
This I'd such an eye opening song
Love everything about it❤🎉😇😘
1982 or so
I love you pat❤
She is really pumped during this performance, great stuff.
I'm loving the kudos given to this by people who are just discovering Pat Benatar and her band
Every time I hear this song it transports me back to my childhood
When people tell me how great and talented Taylor Swift is i show them this. A hundred Taylor Swifts wouldnt equal one Pat Benatar.
O I know
Thank you for saying that a lot of people are misunderstanding
Yup
I should tell that to my daughter-in-law lol
Truth & Facts!!!
Pat Benatar is Long Islands very best.....she was when she started and still is to this day.....
This song is used to great effect at the end of an episode of Mindhunter season 2. I didn't know it before, but had to pause and look it up right away. Some songs are just a punch in the gut.
Exactly the same happend to me a few minutes ago..that's why I am here now.
Same here, I knew it was Pat Benatar but didn't really know the song...one good thing about all this technology is being able to instantly research this shit...
Dennis Jørgensen
That’s crazy, that’s exactly why I came to this video, because of Mindhunters.
This song will forever give me chills.
Ima metal head but i kno badass when i see/hear it-
You got that right...Neil Geraldo is so under rated as a rock guitarist.
Giraldo was highly rated in the early to mid 80's. I played guitar in a band in '82. I walked into a guitar store that year, and one of the employees was showing people a lick that Neil had recorded. All guitarists knew who he was.
Tim Roberts same here, Pat she rock's anybody's off their socks true rock goddess 👸🏻
Or when I "hear" it... Pat had one of the most RAW sounding female rock voices evahh!!! And her hair was PERFECT during the 1980's. She was the epitome of SEXY ROCK MAMA!!!
They say Stevie Nicks is the Queen of Rock n Roll. Nahh, I say it's Pat Benatar.
Bless all the people fighting for children's rights and helping children that have been abused, adults still recovering from abuse .
Goosebump time at 4:00 with the power in her vocals! Truly unmatched - it's beyond awesome watching Pat belt it outta the park. And she makes it look almost effortless. Truly in a league all her own - just legendary.
Facts
that is so ridiculously good i'm in tears all these years later
the hell they are living is with their parents...what a mind-numbing song...especially if you've been there!!!
Saw this same performance in Austin...floor seats. instant crush.
They really got it right with this song. I know, as I was severely abused by a doctor on Long Island when I was a kid. I am so glad they never stopped performing it, despite the criticism. It is probably one of the greatest songs ever written. Quietly, but definitely so.
Powerful song ..... makes me tear up , every time. 🙏
Damn.... my favorite song by Pat. Never disappointed with her performances. Rock on girl!
You know it
I remember when this song dropped when I was in high school and I was in a foster home because I was being physically abused by my mother at home.
PEACE, CHILD... 2023... TIME...
Furchtbar was Kinder erleben in "Familien ". Sehr treffend !!! Pat Benatars Lied!! Diese Frau hat allen Respekt verdient ❤
Just saw her last year. She still has it and always will. Simply the BEST
Saw her open for Journey with Loverboy as well. She was outstanding. She blew me away. Never did like Loverboy. Pat should have had their stage time. High school class of 86, and I've always loved Pat. Amazing
This song is my childhood. NO HELL IS FOR CHILDREN!!! Thanks for making this song.
I was so in love with her when I was only a teen. I love this song and yes this song is about children suffering. I was one of them. Thank you Pat for bringing awareness for us.
Me too. I STILL love her and always will.
Discovered this in ´24.
Boy.....what a performance!
Such a heartfelt song. I just love Pat.
You're my super hero you rock forever. 💯 Facts ❤ Thank you✌️

Pat was the highest selling female singer of the 80s.. most people think Madonna was, but Pat was..
Pat started some years earlier though. But she was the No1 woman in Heavy rockthroughout the decade, no doubt about that ...
Funk MADonna anyway.
Actually, Billboard magazine ranks Pat as the highest selling female rock artist in history. This is based on album and single chart positions.
The sound is not the greatest, but I love this video. Just watching the look on Pat's face when she turns to her band, and implores them to kick it into high gear, because she wants the audience to feel the impact of the song and the lyrics. Classic. Pat was truly one of the best.
