I was going to say the same, too. Another point: not sure if either Pat or hubby was involved, but the production work on her albums was really strong. The producer knew exactly how to showcase her vocals and make the songs pop.
You said exactly what I was going to say. Pat was the real deal rocker - most of the female rocker wannabes weren't. I remember in every club I went to there were always girls dressed as Pat Benatar. She was "Queen P "
I met Pat several years ago and she is really nice. She is still married to the lead guitarist. They have 2 daughters, and they are still touring, rocking hard in their 70's.
Pat refused several earlier nominations for the HoF because they did not include Neil, who wrote the music for most of her hits. "We're a team," she told them. Classy lady.
Love Pat Benatar's beautiful & powerful voice. She did many great songs in this style of music. "Heartbreaker", "Love is a Battlefield", "We Belong", "Shadows in the Night", "Hit me with your best shot", "Fire and Ice", and others.
Standing just 5' tall, this tiny woman has one of the most powerful voices in rock history. I had the pleasure of seeing her live at the Alta Oper in Frankfurt Germany in 1982. Incredible show, great memory. Check out her song called Love is a Battlefield. It is a song about domestic violence.
Polo, Pat Benetar and Anne Wilson (from Heart) were two of the best singers in that era. Keep going down the Pat Benatar rabbit hole. You will not be disappointed.
Pat, at the height of her fame, "dropped out" to raise her kids as a "stay at home mom" while her husband continued his career as one of the most highly sought studio musicians of the day. As she once told the story, her kids were watching music videos on TV when they called to her saying, "Hey, mom. This woman looks just like you." She informed them that the woman they were watching was indeed their mother. They laughed and said something like "Oh, Mom. That's Pat Benatar." At that moment, she realized that her own kids had no idea who she is. She immediately called her husband and said, "We're going on tour." They are still touring today. And her kids, at least one of which is performing with them, definitely know who their mom is. We saw them about a year ago. They still have it.
Pat Benatar! She was my HERO as a teen in the 80s. She’s barely 5’ and the voice that comes out! Bad. Ass. She didn’t record a bad song. Fun fact, she’s been married to her guitar player Neil Giraldo, since the early 80s. They have 2 daughters and think she stepped back from music to raise her girls.
You have found the queen of rock and roll. Very deep rabbit hole. Her song "Hell is For Children" is my favorite all time song, since it describes my childhood vividly. Enjoy this journey!
I lost my virginity because of this album and Pat Benatar. so I have been listening to this song for *decades*, and when she hit that "1, 2, 3, 4, Dark" note, it sent shivers up and down my spine. Again. Pat has a bunch of Rock/Pop hits, but my favorite is "We Belong". Check out "Heartbreaker" too sometime.

Had a 1970 Pinto with only am radio, so we cruised with a dinky rectangle tape recorder playing I Love Rock n Roll over and over and doing donuts in the snow covered parking lots. Midwest fun.

Oh we thank you!! "Hell Is For Children", also by this band.. Somebody find the really good live version. She explains the song's genesis at the start of the one I'm thinking of. (The simple "two step" just then, politely allows the attention to be only on the other star, the guitarist who is so good at his job -->Neil Giraldo.)
Pat Benatar's first concert in Houston was a cold rainy night Dec 17th, 1979. Nobody showed up except for about 10 people that knew the first band. Her and the band came on stage and said that since we paid for the show that they were going to give us one, and boy did they. After the show me and her and the bass player ended up playing pinball for a couple of hours talking about music and bands mostly. She was super friendly no ego at all. She was not well known at that time and there was no PR about her show. They came back through a couple of months later to a sold-out show. Those were good times back then.

This is 100% the studio track. This the remastered "official video" for the song. The guy who uploaded it has live in the video title as many studio track "live" performances do, like Heart Barracuda that everyone reacts to. I just did did an A-B comparison in Pro Tools and it is definitely the studio track.

Pat refused to be entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist. She told them that either they take the whole band or nothing. RESPECT!!!!!! Finally they gave in and inducted the whole band.
A little MTV trivia, the first video played was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles on August 1st, 1981. The second was " You Better Run" by Pat Benatar.
Hey Polo.....Pat Benatar..yup..but she rocked 80's fashion too... Hit me with your best shot....Heartbreaker...Hell is for children....great official vids..amazing live shows...❤❤

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." Someone who is widely recognized as among the greatest of her profession is not underrated.
This is my favorite of hers. It really shows off her vocal range. Even after the hundreds of times I have heard this song, I still get the chills every time she hits that high note in the bridge.

I started listening to her when I was only 11 years old, and while I became a jazz singer, I used her songs to try and broaden my range - those super high notes!!!!!! Glad you love her - she's a one-of-a-kind talent.

Pat Benatar is a legend. I was 10 when this song came out and wanted to be her. The number of “concerts” I put on in my bedroom singing Pat Benatar songs into my hairbrush are too many to count 😂 I just loved her!
Fantastic choice. This brings back my golden years. Mid-20s, out of school, professional job, lots of great workmates, good good times in the 80s. No decade like it. And this... And might I say, the most spectacular bootie in all of rock, hands down. ;-) (BTW, Neil Geraldo, lead guitarist... married to Pat. What a couple.)
I was a junior in high-school when her first album came out and all I can say is they couldn't keep the record in stock. A friend saw her in concert in 1981 and said "I had no idea a voice like that could come from someone so petite." Her first four albums are just fire. Some good follow up songs, Precious Time, I'm Gonna Follow You, Hell Is For Children, Fired Up, Invincible, Heartbreaker, and You'd Better Run. Bena-TAR and she is the ultimate Rock Goddess! She refused to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame unless her husband, lead guitarist/writing partner, Neil Giraldo, was inducted right along side her because they were a team and she knows her career wouldn't have been as successful if he hadn't come into her life when he did. They were finally both inducted two years ago! Fire and Ice, Hell is for Children, Heartbreaker, You'd Better Run, We Live For Love, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Treat Me Right, Looking for a Stranger, In the Heat of the Night and I'm Gonna Follow You are some other of her great songs but probably her biggest hit was Love is a Battlefield. It was all over the radio back in the day.
I grew up on this song. Later learned meaning. We lived very dark days as children. My sister has passed away 2 decades ago. I miss her!!😣 Pat Benatar was HUGE in her time.
Pat and Neil (lead guitarist) are rocks power couple. They've been married for over 40 years. Just recently, they were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's about damn time!!!
Oh she definitely has more! She's a legit badass rock-n-roll queen! And she's still touring and doing shows. I saw her last year and she's still got it.
Pat Benatar was classically trained for opera, but went rock instead, giving us one of the most amazing rock singers of all time ❤
Was just about to post that!
You beat me to that comment! 😂

He also did the guitar work for Rick Springfield Jessie's girl

It's BENatar.
@@Historian212 I know how to pronounce it but I was pointing out the TAR because he said TER.
Pat Benatar was huge in the 80's - a truly influential rock singer with many, many hits and deep cuts - no one sounds like her.
I grew up on this song. Later learned meaning. We lived very dark days as children. My sister has passed away 2 decades ago. I miss her!!😣
Pat Benatar was HUGE in her time.
Gotta do her song "HEARTBREAKER" !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah,the 80's. Remember Chess King Store in the mall had the Thriller leather jacket.
She is in the top 10 women rock singers saw her in concert 25 years ago and 5 years ago her voice is still the same
Hell is For Children and We Belong are two other great ones from her. Love is a Battlefield is probably her biggest hit.
You stumbled upon a good one. Pat and Neal Geraldo her husband and lead guitarist are pure incendiary rock and roll.
Pat Benatar is a GEM !! I absolutely ADORE her voice & ENERGY 🔥.
