The Siege of Riverrun by the Freys and the Lannisters.
Jaime Lannister gets dissed by Blackfish.

“I will permit you to take the black. Ned Stark’s bastard is the Lord Commander on the Wall.”
The Blackfish narrowed his eyes. “Did your father arrange for that as well? Catelyn never trusted the boy, as I recall, no more than she ever trusted Theon Greyjoy. It would seem she was right about them both. No, ser, I think not. I’ll die warm, if you please, with a sword in hand running red with lion blood.”
“Tully blood runs just as red,” Jaime reminded him. “If you will not yield the castle, I must storm it. Hundreds will die.”
“Hundreds of mine. Thousands of yours.”
“Your garrison will perish to a man.”
“I know that song. Do you sing it to the tune of ‘The Rains of Castamere’? My men would sooner die upon their feet fighting than on their knees beneath a headsman’s axe.”
This is not going well. “This defiance serves no purpose, ser. The war is done, and your Young Wolf is dead.”
“Murdered in breach of all the sacred laws of hospitality.”
“Frey’s work, not mine.”
“Call it what you will. It stinks of Tywin Lannister."
Jaime could not deny that. “My father is dead as well.”
“May the Father judge him justly.”
Now, there’s an awful prospect. “I would have slain Robb Stark in the Whispering Wood, if I could have reached him. Some fools got in my way. Does it matter how the boy perished? He’s no less dead, and his kingdom died when he did.”
“You must be blind as well as maimed, ser. Lift your eyes, and you will see that the direwolf still flies above our walls.”
“I’ve seen him. He looks lonely. Harrenhal has fallen. Seagard and Maidenpool. The Brackens have bent the knee, and they’ve got Tytos Blackwood penned up in Raventree. Piper, Vance, Mooton, all your bannermen have yielded. Only Riverrun remains. We have twenty times your numbers.”
“Twenty times the men require twenty times the food. How well are you provisioned, my lord?”
“Well enough to sit here till the end of days if need be, whilst you starve inside your walls.” He told the lie as boldly as he could and hoped his face did not betray him.
The Blackfish was not deceived. “The end of your days, perhaps. Our own supplies are ample, though I fear we did not leave much in the fields for visitors.”
“We can bring food down from the Twins,” said Jaime, “or over the hills from the west, if it comes to that.”
“If you say so. Far be it from me to question the word of such an honorable knight.”
The scorn in his voice made Jaime bristle. “There is a quicker way to decide the matter. A single combat. My champion against yours.”
“I was wondering when you would get to that.” Ser Brynden laughed. “Who will it be? Strongboar? Addam Marbrand? Black Walder Frey?” He leaned forward. “Why not you and me, ser?”
That would have been a sweet fight once, Jaime thought, fine fodder for the singers. “When Lady Catelyn freed me, she made me swear not to take arms again against the Starks or Tullys.”“A most convenient oath, ser.”His face darkened. “Are you calling me a coward?”
“No. I am calling you a cripple.” The Blackfish nodded at Jaime’s golden hand. “We both know you cannot fight with that.”“I had two hands.” Would you throw your life away for pride? a voice inside him whispered.
“Some might say a cripple and an old man are well matched. Free me from my vow to Lady Catelyn and I will meet you sword to sword. If I win, Riverrun is ours. If you slay me, we’ll lift the siege.”
Ser Brynden laughed again. “Much as I would welcome the chance to take that golden sword away from you and cut out your black heart, your promises are worthless. I would gain nothing from your death but the pleasure of killing you, and I will not risk my own life for that... as small a risk as that may be.”
It was a good thing that Jaime wore no sword; elsewise he would have ripped his blade out, and if Ser Brynden did not slay him, the archers on the walls most surely would. “Are there any terms you will accept?” he demanded of the Blackfish.
“From you?” Ser Brynden shrugged. “No.”
“Why did you even come to treat with me?”
“A siege is deadly dull. I wanted to see this stump of yours and hear whatever excuses you cared to offer up for your latest enormities. They were feebler than I’d hoped. You always disappoint, Kingslayer.”
My friend although I read the books this was a pleasure to read again especially since you took the time to type it. I always disliked the TV version of this because we know Jaime spent time around BlackFish before being sent to Kingslanding as a lad when Tywin was thinking of arranging a marriage between Jaime & Lysa. The TV version didn't do this excerpt any kindness
Great read. Wish Martin would finish the books
@@andrewcruz6589 i reread the books and honestly I can't blame him for having problems finishing them. They are so detailed and intricate.
Yep, excellent writing! : )
@Your Wrong Honor. Jaime was unarmed and came to deliver terms. Honor and integrity prevents Jaime from being killed then without provocation. Killing Jaime right then would have been equivalent to Robb Starks death.
Aghh... They could have made this scene much better. In the books they had big flags in riverrun. One of the Tullys and one of the Starks. "Lift your eyes, and you will see the direwolf still flies above our walls." is what Blackfish said to Jaime.
bassmike7021 I like the scene how it is, because it's so short Jaime is fobbed off way faster. Which in turn is even more degrading.
Noah Kanku because the show shits on the original material, it is a terrible adaptation.
It wouldn’t have made much sense though because Sansa and Jon were going around with the Stark banner. I get why they removed it.
Kymus Aero you are so wrong is not even worthy to answer.
Henrique Baratheon why did you ignore bill wests comment? He made a good point.

it was definately an early flag as to how the writing was going.
“Pity, do you wish to resume your captivity?”
God I wish there would have been more Blackfish in the show
The show really did Edmure dirty. In the books he didn't order the Blackfish to be put in chains and handed over, he actually helped the Blackfish escape before surrendering the castle. Edmure isn't the best strategist, but he is definitely loved by his subjects and those under his command for being a good man. He reminds me of a kinder, less strategically gifted Stannis.
On the flip side, if edmure wasn't as arrogant earlier on, stannis would've taken Kings landing.. and we'd have had a very different westeros.
@@serwalkerofthekeynes8761 yea, but Robb was pretty dumb by not telling him his true plan, Edmure, one of his most important "commanders".
@@ambience273 he couldn't, the plan was all very much based around lightning attacks, so only the people taking direct part were informed.
Edmure simply had to hold a castle and not engage, if the castle had fallen and edmure captured, he'd have been interrogated and likely given up robbs secrets.
The way robb intended it, would've worked perfectly if not for edmure.. I get that he's hungry for glory, but they would've had the March on Kings landing for that.
Between edmure and catelyn, they did more unintentional damage than any lannister could dream of.
Did him dirty?, he the mosy badass old guy in the fucking series

What many fail to realize is how much Jamie looks up to Blackfish. Ever since he was a child, Jamie was infatuated with the stories of Blackfish. This of course wasn't mentioned in the TV shows but is in the books, and I presume to be applied in the show. To have his idol (yes an enemy) but an individual whom you look up to shut you down and make you realize you're never good enough for their admiration is tough. Great acting on both parts, one of my favorite scenes in the entire show.

What was so good about black fish?
@@thelonesoldier4518 Blackfish (Greatfish in my opinion) fought on the Ninepenny Kings War (check it out, its a good story too). Not only fought but was one of the heros of it, like Selmy (you gonna get it if you search). Further more, he was a good commander.
The same happened on the War Five Kings. Saddly, the show didnt/couldnt show every single detail of everything (but making balls joke they could apparently LOL)
Yeah, they fail to realize it because it is never brought up in the show
Oof.
"As long as I'm standing the war is not over." Great line & a great scene with the Blackfish, thanks for posting!
it is worth noting that he died off-screen like a pleb shortly after.
...and this sentiment is why Daenerys would never be able to take the Iron Throne without resorting to fire...
...so proving season 8 to be at least somewhat realistic...though it was a bit of a kick in the head to those who believed Daenerys to be some sort of comic book hero.
There just wasn't enough Blackfish, he was just awesome in the books and got no justice in the show.
Nothing's over while I'm breathing.
Imagine in that moment Jaime killing him and be like "I heard you"

It is sad that the greatest things Blackfish did in the show were not on screen. Escaping the Red Wedding, taking back Riverrun, and being killed in a sword fight. He is one of the coolest characters but with these scenes he could be even cooler.
Blackfish is not dead in the books. He dies in a sword fight in the show as you said but it’s so interesting why he escapes in the book.
@@zackerycooper1206 ah damn. Now I have to look into this.
the show skips a lot of important battle scenes in favor of drama and dialogue. Also budgetary issues i’m sure.

"Hundreds of mine. Thousands of yours. If you can breach the walls." And a few seasons later Jamie breeached Tyrell castle at a tuesday morning, very easily. Wish they waited for the books.
Highgarden is ment to be a Palace, not a Castle. And without Loras, Randyll who was commanding the Reach army could have just not told Olenna that he has just betrayed her and shows up before even they're prepared for defense.
By the way: Yes, they could have waited for the books.
Randyll Tarly was one of the best military commanders at the time, and was main military brain for the Tyrells (and shortly for Renly, but he didn't listen too much to him anyway). With all Tyrells dead, their chain of command was done and Tyrell soldiers were more into numbers not quality.
Gabriel Oliveira At the pace George is writing, it could be decades before GoT aired again. HBO would not allow that, the actors will be way too old, and D&D would have wasted their time. The shown is fine on its own.
It's not fine on its own, but this is the best we could get. Waiting for the books wasn't an option, as you said.

I agree. Having him and his men help give the Starks a fighting chance against the Boltons and him dying in combat at the Battle of the Bastards would have been great.
@@Tommykey07 It would make 0 strategic sense for him to abandon both Edmure and Riverrun to the Lannisters just to help the Starks. If he marched north, the Lannisters would execute Edmure and take Riverrun, after which, the bannermen would lose their cause to fight and desert, meaning that he alone would reach Winterfell. It would win him nothing and cost him everything. Though, having him escape after the fall of Riverrun like in the books and leading the Stark army properly in the battle of the bastards would have been a good way to use him.

Jaime is quite a tragic figure. No matter what good he does or how much he seeks redemption, his past will always hang around his neck. And no one will ever let him forget that he killed Aerys II. Even though doing so went a long way to saving the citizens of Kings Landing.
Jaimie isn't doing any good though and never did. He's fighting to establish his family's illegitimate claim to the throne, and supporting the atrocities they've committed. Ned Stark was in the right, and helping to overthrow his family or at least forsaking them would be a true stand. On top of this, season 8 establishes he apparently never cared about any of the innocents anyways.
I get that Jaimie is humanized and that he acts nobly towards Brienne, but otherwise the dude is just doing exactly what you'd expect a Lannister to do.
@@farid1406 Bro don’t quote season 8. He always cared about innocents lmao that was his whole character up to that point. Yeah Jaime wasn’t a great person, but he clearly had good in him

"Then the war will end with the fall of just one man. Not much of a war, by my accounting."
Jaime is trying to get accepted by the true knighs. He seeks an understanding, but every time honored men turn him down. Ned Stark, Blackfish, Robert and even his own master Barristan(he was kind to him, but when Cercei ordered his change as kingsguard leader by the kingslayer he was amused). Same goes for new generation: Robb, Jon...
You notice it is those who are humble that respect him. Jon let him in and accepted him afterwards and Brienne too.
@Rickon Grayson his aunt you mean
Jaime sought validation from men he considered to be father figures since his own father never acted like a father and showed caring or compassion. In turn he was turned away from everyone he looked up to.

One thing they got right was Jaime's face when Blackfish tells him he's "disappointed". Blackfish is a personal hero of Jaime's. Looked up to the man and to have one of his heroes call him a disappointment... oof. Can't help but feel sorry for him!
“Hells, I’ve really made some bad choices”, thought Jaime. Killing the king in defiance of my vows, even if he was mad, definitely isn’t a good look, and incest really isn’t cool, even if Cersei is kind of hot. Plus I was kind of hard on Bran Stark, even if my crippling him helped him become the Three-Eyed Raven, because that’s a plot point I have no business even knowing about.
By the seven, who wants to be a deeply conflicted, complex anti-hero in a multi-stranded fantasy epic, even if your brooding good looks and devil-may-care attitude make you an object of desire for countless women all over the world?” thought Jaime, gloomily.

The best part of A Feast for Crows… hastily rushed into two episodes as a B plot in season 6
Yep. Literally the only thing I wanted to see on-screen from Feast was Jaime's campaign in the riverlands and especially the siege of Riverrun, and the show completely guts everything about it. I mean how the hell did they even ruin it that badly. The way it's written in the book is already perfect, all they'd have to do is copy the dialogue and it'd work.

Also notice how Blackfish begins by addressing Jaime as Kingslayer, bringing up how Jaime slew Aerys II. And then later he deliberately turns his back to Jaime after saying “hang him and be done with it”. Giving his back, showing no fear and showing the lack of regard and respect he has for Jaime. Absolutely devastating and badass.
It's not badass for disrespecting someone for something you have no idea about.
And yet Jaime is a better knight, better swordsman, and has a better nickname than he will ever have.
I feel like alongside availability of source material, these old actors made the earlier seasons that much better. Tywin, Olenna, Ned, Blackfish etc. they played that old insightful experienced minds brilliantly. The show just seemed to lack something after they were gradually killed off
It would have been so much better for the show if Blackfish just headed towards the North. He could have died at the battle of the bastards and thus his sacrifice would have meant something. Losing one home to gain another.

1:57 That look of exasperation on Jaime's face when Blackfish calls him "oathbreaker". You can tell he's thinking "ffs can't any of you come up with one decent response other than ''kingslayer' or 'oathbreaker'?" I love these tiny details
Well it's extremely pertinent in an exchange that relies heavily on Jaime and his side being trustworthy. Why would anyone surrender? Why would anyone give up the castle to Jaime? The offer is that they get to live, but how do you enforce that? What is to prevent Jaime & his men from attacking once you are no longer safe behind the castle walls? Only the word and the reputation of the commander. And Jaime threw all that away years ago in a fit of teenage arrogance. "By what right does the wolf judge the lion?" Well you refused to explain yourself to the wolf, and now the man holding the last castle flying a wolf banner is telling you to go fuck yourself, because you decided you didn't need the good opinion of the wolves.
Not only did Jaime betray his oath to guard the king, not only did he murder an unarmed man, in conjunction with his father's men murdering a woman and her children and sacking the city, but then he swore to free Sansa in exchange for Catelyn sending him back to his family, and he DID NOTHING. He arrived at court, where Sansa was, in the last episode of season 3, and they were still at court for two more episodes together, and he did nothing to help her or send her home.
And now he is showing up allied to the people who murdered Catelyn, her son and daughter-in-law, and Blackfish's great-nephew and protege. Again, Jaime's history of bad faith action, and failing to keep his promises are front and center and critical to what is taking place here. Not only is Jaime personally infamous for not keeping his word, not only is his family infamous for their brutality toward their enemies, even embracing the song about one of their war crimes for an anthem, but on top of all that, he is there to help the Freys, who broke one of the greatest social conventions of their culture.
Walder (and Tywin by proxy) didn't just murder a dozen men at dinner, they destroyed an institution that allowed people to meet in peace and extend trust to each other, and Jaime is now reaping what his father and he and their ally Walder Frey have all sown.
@@Gunleaver Jaime had to kill the Mad King to save a city of 500,000 people. Aerys wanted to burn the entire city down using wildfire. Thats not teen annoyance, thats being a fucking hero. Now as far as explaining to the wolf goes, keep in mind that Jaime and Cersei are extremely emotionally repressed children who grew up without parents and were raised by servants. Jaime doesnt know how to communicate and Ned didnt really give Jaime much of an opportunity to explain himself. But at the same time, he is honour bound to serve his family and support them during the war, so he couldnt directly free Sansa. Before he got an opportunity to be able to free sansa, Joffrey was murdered and she escaped.
But yes you are correct that Blackfish's distrust is justified given all that the Lannisters had done to his family. I never said Blackfish should have trusted him, Im simply saying that it annoys Jaime that every single interaction he has with someone involves the words "Kingslayer" or "oathbreaker", even though Aerys was universally despised. What was Jaime supposed to do, guard Aerys against his father's soldiers, or go assassinate Tywin, like Aerys asked? Had he kept his oath, Jaime would have been despised for killing his father, and killing family members was nearly as taboo as killing a guest. No one in this show stopped to think for two seconds and say "wait, if Jaime kept his oath to Aerys then he wouldve had to kill his father's soldiers and potentially his father himself".
@@kushagraagrawal7292 Those things are reasons why Jamie doesn't do the right thing, they are not justifications for his failure to do so. Jamie owed it to the realm to reveal the king's crimes. He refused to do so out of pride and a false sense of superiority. If he is hopelessly repressed by his upbringing then he does not deserve to be treated like an adult or even a whole person, he deserves to be treated as a symbol of toxic Lannister issues. Same with freeing Sansa. If he is honor bound to serve his family (and he is NOT, if they are committing crimes or abusing people), again, he deserves to be shit on for the monstrous stuff he & they did. At the very least Jamie owes Sansa's family an explanation as to why he gets the benefit of the deal without holding up his end.
As for Brynden, I was only talking about his PoV. Jamie's position rests largely on his own entitled & self-absorbed perception, not a valid grievance. If he did not want to be judged for killing Aerys, he should have explained himself. He affects to be unconcerned with the judgment of lesser beasts, so why does he get annoyed at Brynden's epithet? Why is it the responsibility of everyone else to look through the perspective of a spoiled asshole who has shit all over the rules they have to follow his whole adult life, and try to understand his pain?
As for his supposed moral dilemma (which Jaime never seriously contemplates, only brings it up as an excuse), there are plenty of Kingsguard knights who are revered for their dedication to duty, like the Cargyll twins, who killed their family members out of loyalty to their rulers. If Jaime had fought his father's men, no one aside from Tywin & Cersei would fault him, rather he would be praised for it. And if that is a cleft stick in which you are damned if you do & damned if you don't, Jaime is an asshole for demanding an answer to that question from Balon Swan.
No one bothers to say that about Jamie because everyone in Westeros knows the proper answer their society demands. Duty over family. The whole POINT of the vows is to give up your family loyalties. That's why Barristane Selmy, a Stormlander, and Oswell Whent & Jon Darry, riverlanders, fought against their families' liege lords in Robert's Rebellion.
@@Gunleaver Many knew about mad king's actions.... you fool. No one would believe him, he told many, even his father, no one believed him at all. They were all idiots like you.
@@Gunleaver Given the way things are in their world like you said, I think Jamie's situation would have been similar or the same even if he proclaimed his reasoning for the world to hear. Anyone who he would want approval from would likely not care.
Blackfish's scaly armor was so badass
"Hundreds of mine , thousands of yours "
One of the best characters in the show, he deserved more scenes.
I wonder how Edmure and his family are getting along? He will carry the guilt his entire life that the people who murdered his extended family are now living in his ancestral home.
Can't believe he died. Note that after Edmure asked the Tullys to kill him, no more Tully soldiers were in the castle. They helped him escape, they did not kill him, I'm pretty sure of that. The Lannister soldier who said that he was killed while fighting would have been told "You did let a very old man escape a whole army ?", so he prefered to say that he died, I guess.Would also be the reason why Jon would turn on the case of the Lannister, because the Blackfish would come to see him and tell him about the treath.
Historien Mathok Edmure didn't ask the Tullys to kill him. He asked them to chain him and hand him to the Freys.
You might argue it comes to the same thing, but he didn't actually ask them to kill the Blackfish.
This Blackfish is one old school badass dude..it makes Jamie to look like a boy scout infront of him 😂
And Edmure comes in and fucks up the day once again.
Blackfish is like ned a honorable man, jaimie wants him To respect jaimie but He is like ned And doesnt at the end :/
Jaime doesn't deserve a gram of respect, he's the biggest cunt in the series
He's grown since he has his hand cut. More humble and smarter but will be ruthless if necessary. Jaime always wanted Ned and Blackfish respect but who knows how they would react even if Jaime told them the truth. Ned believed an oath is an oath regardless
Since having his hand cut off he's raped his sister, had a completely two faced approach to Brienne's quest by sending her on her quest then critiquing her for it when he next sees her and also had a two faced view on the white walkers by following Cercei's orders then changing his mind at the last minute. Furthermore, he's been shite in battle, always needing someone to save his arse in the road back to kings landing which conveniently always happens. He blackmails Randyll into joining his cause to rebel against his friend and he kills Olenna Tyrell, the woman who killed the shows most hated character. He was and always will be a cunt, fans are just oblivious to it
@@AlejandroSanchez-pl6jw Eddard Stark, believes in an Oath.
By ordering to burn the city, Earys broke his oath as protector of the realm. To which the king's guard is beholden.
I don't think Eddard Stark would consider himself enslaved to Oathbreakers any more than Jamie did.
Imo, Riverrun was one of the most beautiful and historicaly accurate castles in GoT
This show had some phenomenal actors, awesome source material and unbelievably talented production people! The writers though..
The writers did their job well... Until they ran out of material...
"I'm disappointed" - makes me wonder if he meant it in another way, Jaime has this reputation of being a blood-lusting king-slayer, and here he has come to do what he can to save 1000's of lives. Perhaps Blackfish is disappointed that Jaime actually seems to be a fairly reasonable man in person.
Brilliant way of looking at it.
@@johnnymcblaze Not really, Jaime's just diplomatic. He even says it louder so that the Blackfish's men hear the Blackfish refuse this proposal... which would be to turn his men against him. Which is why he thinks Jaime is disappointing, because it's a cheap shot.
@@Gelaen046 this.
Blackfish was unimpressed, but Jamie eventually got the last laugh.
It would take much more than a 2 minute chat for a highborn to even begin to change perceptions of Jamie. Jamie’s crime of “king slaying” is one of the most vile crimes possible in that world.
@@co94 but it was probably the most honorable thing to do. One of the reasons Jaime is one of my favorite characters, the bath scene where he describes this is one of the best in the series
He probably was looking for something Cat saw in him to let him go and didn't find it. Remember his sister and nephew died indirectly in part because Cat let Jamie go.
“We’ve enough provisions for two years. Do you have two years, King Slayer?” 😂 Love the actor who plays BlackFish.
He didn't have that time (Danny is coming). And he could not afford to suffer the losses. In fact, his presence there is a problem (as Crown was not able to support Bolton in North).
Clive Russel is a Great actor and took a whole new meaning to Brynden Tully my faviourite part from this scene was the way mentioned that as long as he still draws breathe the war will never be over. What a legend.
Damn. Imagine meeting your hero and hearing him say that you're a coward and a disappointment
Easily one of the most badass characters in the entire universe.
When a salmon has bigger balls then a lion
Lions are very cowardly animals, they're oportunistic
And when you realize that salmon with bigger balls tries fucking that lion and gets his balls cut off
Trout lol
It's a trout
Balls so big I am wondering how he can walk
In the books, Jaime idolized BlackFish. He always looked up to him as a great warrior, commander. Even though the context is missing in the show, it was great acting by both in this scene.
Later when Frey insults Blackfish during the feast, Jaime didn't hold back. He did what he had to do to win. But he still kept high regards for him.
I mean u could see it here he doesn't act that prideful compared to ned, locke, roose, robb and many more
everyone mocks jaime for being a kingslayer and oathbreaker. But in reality, if he had not killed the mad king lots of innocent people would have died so
Donovan Man Yeah that's true. The problem is, nobody really knew about the Wildfire and Aerys' plan to use it.
That is true, but this oath is the highest thing you can imagine. You swore to defend the king no matter what happens, it is the highest oath in the world and it is really hard to become a man of the king's guard, only the most loyal man can. Jaime Lannister broke this oath, it doesn't matter what he saved with it, this should be punished by death.
Kian Targaryen Well said
+kiankashi91 but as jamie told brienne,he had also taken a vow to protect the common people and to obey his fathers orders. So all his vows were conflcting when aerys decided to kill his father and the people of kings landing. He had to choose which oath to keep and which to break so he chose to keep his oath towards his faather and to the people at the cosst of his oath to the king
+John Doe Cersei "I always knew you were the dumbest Lannister"
When GoT wasnt perfect but still good enough
What do you mean. Season 6 was one of GoT greatest seasons. Only season 5, 7,and 8 sucked. Yeh, the dialogue wasn't as much up to standards as it was under George's supervision. But at least the plot made sense. And season 6 episode 9 had the greatest battle of all of Game of Thrones. Jon's storyline peaked in season 6, just as well as Daenery's, and even Bran. And Cersei destroying the Tyrell's in the finally with that beautiful build up and music, ow man, what negative thing can you even say about that?
To me, season 6 was my 3rd most favorite season in this very order: 4-3-6-2-1-7-5-8
,,As long as I'm standing the war is not over" best quote ever
This show was so amazing
Brynden: Your honor?! Bargaining with the Oathbreaker is like building on quicksand!
🤣🤣🤣
House Tully really fell when house stark did, hope they take back the river lands soon.
That probably hurt Jaime a hell of a lot. Blackfish was one of his heroes growing up, and here he is...."disappointed".
'As long as I'm standing the war is not over.'.. in the trailer for that season that line was badass.
“Do you wish to resume your captivity?” Such sass 😂.
To be frank this show destroyed Jaime overall.
I mean, he respected Blackfish and all, but the reason he managed Edmure to surrender is chillingly evil
In The book the Blackfish swims under a moat, true to his name, and escapes. Fun Fact.
I didn't read the book but I'm glad I found this information. Blackfish is such a great character. 😊
Theme is awesome as fuck.
"you wish to resume your captivity?"
Jaime actually admired Brynded for years before meeting him. This moment was like being called a loser by your hero
King Slayer and Blackfish is a Northumberland delicacy. Traditionally served with Dothraki Artichoke Hearts(raw) and chicken Littlefingers.
And cooked stags with a little bit of wolf gravy served on a golden matter that tywin lannister shitted last night
It's also worth saying that he was the Tully children's favorite uncle. He may have had a complicated relationship with Hoster, but he loved Catelyn, Lysa, and Petyr unconditionally and without fail. In turn, they would go running to him for love and comfort and he tended to cover for them. The show doesn't quite convey just how enraged he was with the Lannisters. Both for Catelyn's death and the death/capture of so many of Catelyn's children.
Edmure, not Petyr. But yes, agreed.
Jaime also idolizes him this deffo hurt
That theme in the background when Jamie approaches the bridge is amazing
Jamie truly is one of the best characters on the show and in the books. Someone completely motivated by love and family (unfortunately it's HIS family). Who wanted to believe in the stories of knights as noble hero's, but ended up as something of a nihilist when that path brought him nothing but hardship.
I like how they both stand on the edge of the bridge right next to each other. They are enemies, and Blackfish despises Jaime, but they both know the other would never cheat and shove them into the river. They at least respect the fact that they are both men who fight fair, even if they completely disagree on what to fight for
Bronn woulda made blackfish fly
Why would either throw each other in the river? There would be 100 bolts coming at them immediately lol.
The water at the beginning is literally the same water at the end of the scene, brilliant writing, continuity and character development
“Ah well, it’s all water under the bridge now“, thought Jaime, gloomily.
This scene of one of the highlights of the dour 4th book. Brinden the Blackfish Tully is a great knight who was Robb’s right hand and his parlay with Jaime was awesome. He was Jaime’s childhood hero and disdain the Kingslayer met is palpable.
Pity D&D removed the Blackfish’s line:
“Far be it from me to question the word of such an honorable knight.” They also should’ve shown the Stark’s direwolf banner hanging over Riverrun.
How much it must hurt Jamie when anyone calls him 'Kingslayer'
🤔
he told Tywin that it "bothers me", I imagine he does not take it well from people he admires.
Great acting!
I appreciate the mutual trust, even in the middle of open war, of opening your front door to talk to your opponent in person first. Imagine seeing something like that nowadays, imagine Putin going to Ukraine and saying he'll invade if he doesn't get what he wants in person.
Brynden is like “you’re fuckin’ ten ply bud.”
Literally like my Bannerlord conversations:
-Surrender or die
-Perhaps you are the one that ought to surrender
No coincidence that the Blackfish's armor looks like scales.
Ser Jaime sure didn't have 2 years to siege out Blackfish Tully.
Props to Jamie for always keeping a cool head as people constantly threw the worst epithets at him... And all for saving every single citizen of King's Landing from burning to death
Back when this show used to give me goosebumps.
Show stopped being good at season 5. When they started to write the dialogues themselves.
Go figure. When the sources material is from a skilled and refined artist, and paper pushers are brought in to replace them. The Hubris was of the worst Roman emperors.
Hearing Blackfish say I'm disappointed probably really hurt Jaime. Jaime really admired and respected him
It's true that Jaime looked up to Ned , Arthur and blackfish because they were legends in his Tenure
"Im disappointed"
Hearing that from someone you once idolised must have been a punch to the gut
Got him twice with the oath-breaker reference
By what right does the silver trout judge the lion.
HAHAHAHAHA
Imagine one of your biggest childhood heroes speaking to you like that😭
I mean what did he expect him to say? He is an oathbreaker he betrayed all of the kings his serve and innocent people and his family was literally responsible for blackfish nephews and nieces death.
Blackfish: “Kingslayer!”
