There's an article about this whole moment. Huffington Post. So, Kanye was really nervous. All the Celebrities involved were reading off a teleprompter, as you can see with Mike and Chris. But moments before Mike and Ye went on, he whispered into Mike's ear "Imma go off script a little bit" and Mike nodded back thinking it's probably going to be one line or two. And then boom, out of nowhere Ye delivered a friggin speech and Mike was probably thinking "uh dude, you said a little bit" but managed to stick to the script. After the show, a famous country singer and his wife - who were also part of the many Celebrities that were involved in the initiative to raise funds for Katrina - went to the producers and said "He's right you know..." talking about Ye "...this isn't going to ruin your legacy, this is going to make it" And in a way, that country singer was right. This moment lives on forever.
Here's the link: huffpost.com/entry/kanye-west-george-bush-black-people_n_55d67c12e4b020c386de2f5e Not a fan of HP but this one is a great read for sure
@@Peezster you gotta read the corporate media even if you don't like it. they're the ones who got the resources to do real investigation even if they're a bunch of liars and crooks
Mike Myers inner thoughts: *wtf is going on? Why is this guy going of script? Are we just letting this happen? Okay, its cool he's not doing anything crazy, just let it happen. Okay he stopped, back to me. Back to the prompter. Nail it. Back to Kanye... and...... there it is.*
Quotes by Mike Myers himself after this had happened: "Looking back at the telethon, Myers recalled feeling surprised and uncomfortable. He said he wanted to do the telethon because he, too, felt "ironically, that if this was white people on roofs, the army would be there in five seconds." When one of the show's producers told him he would be working with Kanye West, Myers recalled not being familiar with the rapper's work. "And then he said he was going to take some liberties with the thing." Myers said he didn't know that the liberty would be "calling out" Bush. Myers told the interviewer, "I don't mind answering the question [about Kanye] but the emphasis of it being that I'm the guy next to the guy who spoke a truth." Moreover, Myers said, "To have the emphasis on the look on my face versus the fact that somebody spoke truth to power at a time when somebody needed to speak? I'm very proud to have been next to him."
very true. Bush did nothing during this time he took his sweet old time. he needed to be called out in any way, shape or form. you can hate kanye but he was right here bush did terrible during this.
Monokhem I don’t believe literacy is your strongest point either because nothing you said makes sense anyway. Trying to prove to people that Bush cared about black people he knew is dumb and futile because that doesn’t mean he really cared about black people as a group.
Hahaha, see people pull down Kanye for stuff he's doing atm but they're quick to forget aren't they...He spoke truth when you pretty much couldn't, now everyone speaks truths like they're heroes when they are given a platform to do so, back then there was no platform
Sascha Houpt-in politics, no one is right. It's all perceptions and opinions from what I've seen. Take for example the consumption of meat. It's something we probably should reduce, we eat too much meat in general. I mean I eat meat but I don't have barbecues every year, I don't eat much beef or pig, mainly fish and chicken but we still should cut down on on it, to relieve the pressure to put animals in worse conditions to meet demand...however, In cutting down on meat, you put more farmers (here in Britain for example) out of business as it encourages businesses to buy abroad, so farmers are forced to sell their land, giving way to more property development. So more countryside and wildlife is damaged by expanding population areas....you see...there's billions of people on this planet with different upbringing and lives, no ones the same. So making one decision, will benefit something but tear down something else. This is how politics really works but students and people in general who are new to politics seem to think it's right or wrong, black or white. It's not. Nothing is simple, all life is complicated
he's really emotional this whole time. he looks like he's terrified and out of breath. I dont think he planned on saying bush doesn't care about black people it just came out in the heat of the moment lol
***** no shit he looks disturbed. he's watching families being washed away on the news. Wouldn't that make anyone look and sound emotionally disturbed? As much as kanye is a douchebag i have a lot of respect for him after watching this because he was the only celebrity who actually seemed concerned about this and didn't just go on the news for publicity or because he was asked to do it.
Kanye is a shameless racist. I'm tired of people like him who truly believe that black Americans are incapable of being racist, while simultaneously assuming that all, or nearly all, white Americans (or at least all white American males) are racist.... He's a racist asshole who needs to get his head out of his ass. Racism is racism, and Kanye West has demonstrated his racism time and time again, if you need proof just watch his behavior during the Grammys.
The internet wasn't as big as it is today. Had this happened today the entire world would find out. People are resurrecting stuff way after this was made and it gets like 10M views in 24 Hours.

everyone joking how Kanye sounds like “me when I have to present in class” doesn’t understand how nervous and upset he was. it’s a hell of a claim, especially back in the day, to defend your race, culture, and status, while also calling out Bush’s overt racism.
Kanye has been a vocal Trump supporter. Although this video is hilarious and he was awesome for pointing this bit of truth out, at the end of the day he's an idiot and doesn't know shit about politics.
You know yall laugh but you can actually see the sincerity in his voice, the man has said some crazy and messed up things but you can see he is actually devastated at what happened. Honestly people are fucked up no compassion for anything.
Why do people today ALWAYS complain about others not speaking their mind and not doing what they feel is right but as soon as someone does it and its public they look down upon and hate on that person? I dont understand
No, people get upset when people make IMPULSIVE statements. We like people who are politically engaged but are also well informed. This means that they have the political will to know the facts and not speak solely on intuition.
Because this was an inappropriate time and place to do it, in a setting that had nothing to do with the subject? I mean seriously, he was there to help promote relief efforts for the tragedy that took place... and then he makes some random statement out of the blue which completely makes the whole thing look like a joke. What a waste of space...
argottobob u guys miss the point i swear. it wasnt random. people should speak their mind whenever they feel because there is never really a right time to do it. this was live television. and if u r not american u will know that the us tele isnt just national. its in my country and a lot of others as well. what he said is true, only problem i have is that he should have said more, because bush didnt care about a lot of shit. not just blacks
360MonaLisa I highly disagree with you on this. You shouldn't spout out your beliefs on a show that has the purpose of charity/relief for people in need, that dwarfs his petty beliefs. Funny thing is, obama has screwed with us even more than bush ever did, and everyone knows it now.. you don't see him going on tv saying anything like this, because he is black. Hence why I personally feel kane is actually the racist one here.
I don't know about all that Chris Tucker is black and he know Kanye was telling the truth for the most part he just couldn't believe Kanye went off the way he did and calling out the president

Y'all know it's a joke right?
Mantis42 Actually, it's because of the media bias. By the way, do you have any evidence of the BS you wrote about White militia members gunning down Black "looters"? And why is looters in parenthesis? Are you suggesting innocents were gunned down?

Well 0:53
There's an article about this whole moment.
After the show, a famous country singer and his wife - who were also part of the many Celebrities that were involved in the initiative to raise funds for Katrina - went to the producers and said "He's right you know..." talking about Ye "...this isn't going to ruin your legacy, this is going to make it"
And in a way, that country singer was right. This moment lives on forever.
Who’s wife?
@@Trey-Jae The country singer who went to talk with the producer was Harry Connick Jr., and the wife was actually Faith Hill, Tim McGraw's wife.

I mean, he wasn't wrong. The reaction from Myers was priceless though.
I think when Myers rubber under his eye 👁 that was his sign for them to cut away
Mike Myers inner thoughts:
*wtf is going on? Why is this guy going of script? Are we just letting this happen? Okay, its cool he's not doing anything crazy, just let it happen. Okay he stopped, back to me. Back to the prompter. Nail it. Back to Kanye...
and......
there it is.*
Troll doing their 'hit the return key 2 waste page space' garbage = get a life, clown.
Justin Garcia bro I really just laughed so hard at this
Quotes by Mike Myers himself after this had happened:
"Looking back at the telethon, Myers recalled feeling surprised and
uncomfortable. He said he wanted to do the telethon because he, too,
felt "ironically, that if this was white people on roofs, the army would
be there in five seconds." When one of the show's producers told him he
would be working with Kanye West, Myers recalled not being familiar
with the rapper's work. "And then he said he was going to take some
liberties with the thing." Myers said he didn't know that the liberty
would be "calling out" Bush.
Myers told the interviewer, "I don't mind answering the question
[about Kanye] but the emphasis of it being that I'm the guy next to the
guy who spoke a truth." Moreover, Myers said, "To have the emphasis on
the look on my face versus the fact that somebody spoke truth to power
at a time when somebody needed to speak? I'm very proud to have been next to him."
thats dissapointing.
very true. Bush did nothing during this time he took his sweet old time. he needed to be called out in any way, shape or form. you can hate kanye but he was right here bush did terrible during this.
He didn't call him racist. He said he doesn't care about black people which is true.
monokhem only the ones “he knows”
Monokhem I don’t believe literacy is your strongest point either because nothing you said makes sense anyway. Trying to prove to people that Bush cared about black people he knew is dumb and futile because that doesn’t mean he really cared about black people as a group.

Hahaha, see people pull down Kanye for stuff he's doing atm but they're quick to forget aren't they...He spoke truth when you pretty much couldn't, now everyone speaks truths like they're heroes when they are given a platform to do so, back then there was no platform
its at 1:36, for anyone curious
Julio Lopez lmao! Good catch!!!
I didn't see anyone saying Omg
Mike Meyers was like "bruhh"
Steven Nieto think how funny it would have been if Mike Myers just throws up a black panther fist instead of getting that goofy look on his face

after rewatching this you can see kanye getting seriously emotionally
mah gramar!
davis2110 Done purposely
he's really emotional this whole time. he looks like he's terrified and out of breath.
