I’ve watched this video a few times, and while John Lennox makes some interesting points, I don’t think the title matches what’s in the video. He doesn’t actually "destroy" atheism or prove that God exists. Instead, Lennox talks about why he believes in God and argues that faith can go hand-in-hand with science. The title seems like it’s just there to grab attention. If you’re expecting solid proof against atheism, you might not find it here. But the video is still worth watching if you want to hear a thoughtful take on how science and belief in God can work together.
God destoys Atheist, anyone with common sense can see that everything was created because something has never come from nothing. Give me evidence that you have seen something in your lifetime that came from nothing. Want evidence of creation look at anything you can see and it had to be made because it had a beginning.
@@robertrlkatz6890 I see where you’re coming from, but sometimes “common sense” can miss the bigger picture. The idea that “something has never come from nothing” is a longstanding philosophical debate, but it’s important to remember that just because we don’t fully understand the origins of the universe, that doesn’t automatically prove the existence of a divine creator. This is an example of an argument from ignorance-concluding that God must exist simply because we lack a complete explanation for how the universe began. Also, when you say “God destroys atheism,” it’s worth asking-how exactly is that happening? As an atheist, I’m still here in the discussion, so it seems like the “destruction” hasn’t exactly taken place. My main point was just that the video’s title doesn’t match what John Lennox actually talks about. I think it’s valuable for all of us to stay open to different perspectives and not just rely on what seems obvious at first glance.
The proof is rational deduction not empirical evidence. Life the MBR that he mentioned. That demands an explanation. As Aquinas and Al Ghazali pointed out... Everything that begins has a beginner.
He does not attack atheists or even atheism but rather gives a solid basis for his faith as a scientist. I appreciate the respectful but unapologetic approach.
So, God made himself from nothing, then made something, and everything originated from nothing. If you believe God as the most powerful and intelligent being came from nothing, then you believe in evolution.
He provides no basis and no evidence. He asserts that A, he sees a question that no one can answer (what came before the big bang) and then B, he inserts God as the answer. That's not evidence but like most people of faith, he states that Atheists believe "something came from nothing" is an obtuse mischaracterization that apologists foolishly use as some kind of "proof".

You are talking about the being that designed the food chain in which animals have to brutally kill each other to survive? Have you ever seen a falcon eating a prey when it's still alive? Merciful right? Or are you talking about the being that designed bio-robots (yes, us) and then blamed the robots for all the software bugs he himself put in? The being that watches us torturing, killing and raping each other in the most sadistic and horrendous ways and does nothing? And if you are referring to that being, where do gracious, merciful, kind, faithful, loving & just come in exactly?

This is an eloquent and forceful defence of one man’s belief in a deity. It proves nothing, other than he can cite some great minds who share his belief. That’s fine, but if anyone thinks this is proof of anything, then they’re indulging in wishful thinking.
I'm not an atheist by any means. Not even an agnostic. but in my opinion, this video fails to meet the threshold of “destroying atheism.“ I was very disappointed in listening to it.
As a Catholic, I can agree. It did not speak to reason and the heart fully, and I do not think the resurrection can be proved the way God’s existence can. However, that does not mean faith and science contradict, nor that pure philosophy alone is not enough to deduce the existence of an all powerful Cause of the universe (which has no better name than God).
A bad title, but an excellent talk. Dr. Leenox provided arguments against atheism but in a respectful way. He is pointing to the signs of intelligent design, he is hinting at the profound literary nature of scripture, not it's profound literalism. He is hinting at the creation account not being a literal account of *how* the universe was created, but the literary *home* story of why the creator made it and our relationship to him. He is asking great questions and encouraging us the listener student to be curious and go in search of answers. In doing so you will likely discover that God was pursuing and discovering you, not you who was searching out God. Fabulous and will listen again.

Wise words indeed Science and faith have always been linked. But they don't want you to make that connection today. Today they want you to believe science and faith are separate. Can't believe in one without the other. For nothing has ever been created from nothing
Yeah, science has acquired these bad habits of insisting on self-consistency, repeatability, falsifiability and logical directness (among others). If God appeared to a scientist, he or she would probably want him to come back the next day for a urine sample and a DNA swab.
@@edkudray2060 Science and faith are not linked. Science is the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against the evidence obtained. Faith requires no study or testing of evidence. As for the nothing argument; there is nothing about atheism that expresses any view point on that issue. And the big bang does not presume that something came from nothing; only that our known universe came from a singularity. It does not presume to know what may or may not have existed prior to that moment. Lastly, you appear to want to use the grade school definition of 'theory,' as opposed to how that term is used in science.
The problem is....belief in something is not nor ever has been nor ever will be taken as proof or evidence. One may believe what one chooses but believing is NOT proof !

Romans 9 provides one answer, but most are not prepared to face that truth. If your view is restricted to just one subspace, there is no way to see the whole space no matter how hard you try.
I agree! At last count, I 'believe', there are approximately 4,200 worldwide religions to choose, or not to choose, from...and each with, or without, its own higher authority(ies). A thought to ponder: put 100 scientists to work on a problem, and yes they may all start out with different hypotheses and discover, interpret, and reinterpret facts in different ways along the way, but they eventually come to a consensus on an answer, and the answer will be one that we can effectively use - because of the evidence that they can test and verify themselves. Put 100 theologians to work on a question by using faith, and although they may all start out from the same religious perspective, you will end up with at least 100 denominations, factions (a blend of fact and fiction), and even new religions (all with their own denominations and factions), and there will be no objective, reliable way to decide between them. That, more or less, leaves us, with or without, two more choices; Science's evidence without certainty, and/or religion's certainty without evidence! Peace...

There is an intelligence behind all the systems in the body, and I was in awe of it, still am. My question to myself at the time, was how can this beautifully crafted system that works so amazingly together be anything less than originating from some kind of universal intelligence. How can the Universe and the systematic laws it functions under be just random and coincidence. It doesn't make any sense.
Why are people so afraid to say, 'I don't know what caused this.' May it be life, suffering, happiness, fairness, unhappiness. In the chain of possible answers to the question why they are what they are, there is always a last why-question, to which the answer is 'We don't know'. Religion tries to close that line with the belief in God as an ultimate answer. Christians do not know that there is a God; they believe it. Atheists do not know that there is nothing after death; they believe it. I embrace the thought that the fact that you can ask a question does not mean there is an answer.

he clearly logically showed the paradox of atheism saying science pursuit the truth and by coincidence discovering physical and mathematical laws describing perfectly the universe starting from a postition humans are motivated only by survivor instincts then evolution based on surviving cannot produce science pursuing the truth because for each person surviving principles are different. @@margotmargot4426 Unfortunately, this is a terrible argument and there is an easy way to logically argue against it. Evolution favors traits that allow species to reproduce and pass down their genes. For us, these traits include pattern recognition, abstract thinking, memory, etc. Our excellent memory and pattern recognition allows us to avoid circumstances of danger that we might have already experienced. Abstract thinking allows us to come up with responses to fictitious scenarios, and those prepare us for real life dangers. Then, these traits bloom over the course of millions of years, culminating with Homo sapiens. You see? It's perfectly reasonable for us to have evolved to rationally analyze the world. It's a trait that is favorable for natural selection. Then, science and pursuing the truth follow naturally from our language, communication, observations, and analysis.

@@The_Blessed_Cowboy well, take into account some people who don’t believe in God justify their views with what they perceive as logical reasoning- like they’ve never experienced personal evidence or they can’t wrap their head around what the Bible speaks of or they only go by what’s in front of their eyes. Then there’s those with personal grievance or place their own morals against the very Author such as anger towards a church or church goers, or they cant understand why God allows evil and therefore summarize because He can’t exist, or that science is the only explanation and what it can’t explain now it will one day with enough data, or that they’ve experience horrible things and have anger towards Him. People have their reasons and don’t put the effort in beginning a relationship with Him. And if they do believe in a creator, they have an idea of what a creator is to them and sometimes they don’t like a God that would pour His wrath on His Son, not understanding the necessity of it. Or sometimes it’s as simple as they can’t decide which church is “right”, so they don’t go at all and don’t attempt anything It’s a hard thing for some to grasp, because it would mean a very deep and profound change in lifestyle, drastically for most. Submission requires a lot for the stubborn and stiff-necked. For us simpler minded folks I look at something like love. Evolution without God needs attraction to maintain the species but what purpose does love have in such a system? I believe our need to connect with one another is because we all come from the same Divine Family where we were all joined and we long to be reconnected to our brothers and sisters.
I'll posit an answer: Love binds mating pairs of humans to each other and to their offspring. Love binds those families to the tribe. Love binds those tribes to human society. And human society is an extremely potent force for survival.
@@k7jeb I agree. So is that an argument for or against the existence of God? If it’s an argument against then I would counter with why does love have to exist at that level when simple attraction allows the species to continue along with packs, flocks or whatever that solve for the community? IMO love goes way beyond the “need” for simple existence that nature affords the rest of the animal world.
@@cjen1959 My point is that survival, either of the individual or of the species, is the final arbiter of existence. If "love", "faith in God" or brute physical strength enhances survival, then those attributes will propagate into the future with the surviving individuals. Whatever the mental or physical constructs used for that social organization are, they become a part of the individuals who survive and reproduce.

The evidence is there and has been there. its historical fact, people just don't believe in it for their own reasons. As this man eluded to, the evidence of a creator is creation itself. the problem isn't a lack of evidence, its the evil and blindness of people themselves and even if you do receive a sign you "believe" it wise to approach everything with extreme skepticism until you can produce an environment to control it in order to understand it inside and out. Matthew 16:4 King James Version 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed. The Holy Word of God ask you to test it yourself. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 King James Version 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. As a Christian we do not simply "believe" in God. we know him and get to know him more intimately through the Holy spirit and Prayer. Faith is not a blind belief in the existence of God, it is the belief God will keep his promises he made toward us. People love John 3:16 as i do, but the verses after help illuminate why people don't or cannot come to belief in God because it causes severe cognitive dissonance and demands a change that must happen in their lives (being born again) which can only be accomplished by what Jesus did on the Cross and it is evidence in and of itself because you can experience it. it is personalized and is a personal relationship waiting for everyone who enters into "belief" John 3:16-21 King james version 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Atheism demands proof and evidence that is so clearly there and in front of them they cannot see it... why? GOD tells them why 2 Corinthians 4:4 King James Version 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Yes, Paul wrote 2 Corinthians not God physically but let the bible explain 2 Peter 1:21 King James Version 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. The Atheist trys to understand everything with a carnal mind 1 Corinthians 2:14 King James Version 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. Romans 8:6-8 King James Version 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Atheism is untenable. in a way, especially after becoming a believer myself seems closer and closer to a form of insanity. For someone who knows Christ, who has the Holy spirit who dwells within them and has a personal relationship with the Father through Jesus. There is no argument nor debate here. It is a struggle to pull people out of deep water, to rescue them from the fire. To point them to the only person who can not only save you from all the horrible things you've done and the just punishment you will receive for it but also explain to you why the cake was made in the first place and your own role and meaning in everything. if you want to know God. Do not seek any man, idea or philosophy because Colossians 2:8 King James Version 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. But instead 1. Repent 2. Confess 3. Ask for forgiveness, and the Holy spirit Matthew 7:7-8 King James Version 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. and 4. listen and obey the Holy spirit as he guides you into all truth John 16:13 King James Version 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Please. read the book for yourself intentionally, purposefully. Take everything you think you know and sieve it through the Bible. Nor is knowledge the same as knowing-experience "proves" knowledge. But without faith there is nothing. To have faith is to believe in that which you do not know.
This is certainly true. Why then does one turn to the other extreme, namely atheism, i.e. the "knowledge" that there is no God? Agnosticism is the only reasonable position. That this is still a debate in 2024 is mind-boggling beyond words. I don't think theists have properly thought of what would constitute _definitive_ proof of the absence of God, nor have atheists considered what would _definitively_ proof His existence. Hence we have been mired in these dualistic ego games for millenia, and will be for quite some time yet.

Exactly! He create this world in his infinite wisdom and for his own glory. To create is proper to a Diety. Thus God proves himself to be the true God and distinguishes himself from idols.
Even when I was a borderline atheist , I still believed that God could exist and who’s origin could be explained so easily to even a hardcore atheist scientist; x amounts of time ago, virtually infinite to us, a super advanced civilization could have invented some form of super computer or AI that overtime became infinitely powerful , so powerful it was able to create universes , totally self aware, create heaven and earth, etc. so powerful we couldn’t even begin to comprehend its power . See even a hardcore atheist should be able to believe that’s a possibility
As a hard core scientist, I absolutely agree that this could be true. I’m pretty sure that conflicts with most believer’s concept of a supernatural god. I don’t think they have more advanced science in mind.
@@paulb2760 the thing is, the entity could be so powerful that it could indeed have become ‘supernatural’. At what point does something become so inconceivably powerful that it bridges the gap that we think of as science vs supernatural
@@paulb2760 my other personal theory , although I’m sure someone much smarter than me has said it before, but I don’t think I’ve ever read about it anywhere or heard about it but maybe…. If this makes sense…. I’m having trouble articulating my point
So what you saying is that god is an "antient and advanced" civilization. Who created an AI? Well, so is there god for that cavitation? Or it just came to be? An effect without cause. So no matter how far you will try to remove the "creation" event, it still does not explain why "existence" develops from simple to complicated. I am incapable of believing in something for which there is no evidence. Faith is not fact. The more science has revealed, the greater the certainty that we are a product of the infinite diversity of a universe we will never fully comprehend. The nature and source of the elements of which we are made are known to us. The aeons of time it took for the process of life to begin and to develop are understood. Given all that we know exists and our tiny part in it, I'm inclined to believe that human existence is not a miracle but rather an inevitability. Life in all its diversity arose from a single source on this planet, and we, for all our cleverness, are just one more in a passing parade of lifeforms to have inhabited this world only to disappear in time. Our turn will come in time, be that long or short, and all our notions of an all-knowing God will pass away with us. Only human conceit could deny the fact that the universe does not care about us or our concerns. Life is a privilege, brief, and full of trouble and joy, but nothing supports the notion that it can ever be eternal.
"Only human conceit..." Which lies behind much atheistic belief, surely? It always amuses me when 'scientifically-minded' individuals start babbling on about the Universe (ie the miniscule amount they DO know about it) and the Table of Elements etc etc _ad nauseam_ as though THEY were the only ones to have received an education in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics - the rest of us, presumably, believing (inter alia) that the World is a flat disc resting on the backs of four elephants, and that Santa Claus (like Manmade Global Warming) is real. Not so, I fear! "I am incapable of believing in something for which there is no evidence." Really? What a colourless existence you must lead! So, if I tell you that I was madly in love with a girl in my class at the age of nine (as I was), you would be INCAPABLE of believing me UNLESS I proffered some 'evidence' (what kind, pray?), and therefore be compelled to think of me as a liar or 'delusional'? Nonsense! And you can multiply this trivial example - regarding VALID PERSONAL experience - an infinite number of times. I'm making a SERIOUS point here: how many things do YOU 'believe', WITHOUT having seen ANY compellng evidence to _support_ that belief? WHY do you CHOOSE to believe SOME things - but not others? What is it that allows you to cross a dangerously busy road if not Faith - as opposed to concrete (fore-)Knowledge - that you'll make it safely to the other side? In fact, the unspoken belief that 'one day' EVERYTHING will be explicable in _specifically_ 'scientific' terms is _itself_ distinctly UNSCIENTIFIC - in the sense that such a conviction is _essentially_ no more than an Act of Faith; albeit one no more _irrational_ than belief in Divine Intelligence - for which the Wonders of the Universe and its workings provide at least SOME slight evidence, you'll agree, just as the wonders of medieval cathedral architecture afford SOME evidence of an INTELLIGENCE behind it, SOMETHING beyond the 'accidental' assembly of molecules, as statistically 'inevitable' as all those proverbial monkeys' typing out the works of Shakespeare!
The bible says EXACTLY what you said, actually, that is it by faith that you believe. And at the rate we are going, that time is going to be very short. Dear Brian, Romans 1 verse 20 God says in His Word the Bible, “for since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that all people are without excuse.” Atheists prefer to believe in the absurd and it appears they are not willing to consider anything different, like for instance how the Sun is capable of thinking that it needs to be the exact size, the perfect distance from Earth, the correct heat so that it would be able to sustain life and has continued to burn faithfully. The Sun figured that all out. We could also talk about the moon or how the Planets which have deferent Characteristics could have come from a big explosion. Out of that explosion when everything settled everything became orderly and the Planets became round. Trees knew that they had to come into existence before life could come because they knew that we needed Oxygen. Why is it that man would rather believe something could come from nothing and yet those things had to think it through so that everything could be? Yes, I know that now they are starting to say that maybe everything was here already, and it was not a Big Bang. My problem with that is not a man in this World has ever seen something that was Created outside of Nature. All things that man has made took a mind to make, nothing has come to be unless a man designed it or created it. Yet Atheist wish to believe that the Universe Created itself when they have not a stitch of Evidence to prove it.

Okay Sir/Ma
Someday, you'll get a proof, and I hope it won't get too late!
Romans 9 provides one answer, but most are not prepared to face that truth. If your view is restricted to just one subspace, there is no way to see the whole space no matter how hard you try.
Yes, a belief does not have to be true to be effective.
I agree! At last count, I 'believe', there are approximately 4,200 worldwide religions to choose, or not to choose, from...and each with, or without, its own higher authority(ies).
A thought to ponder:
put 100 scientists to work on a problem, and yes they may all start out with different hypotheses and discover, interpret, and reinterpret facts in different ways along the way, but they eventually come to a consensus on an answer, and the answer will be one that we can effectively use - because of the evidence that they can test and verify themselves.
Peace...

He has remained distant from human suffering. He's done absolutely nothing to help people in terrible suffering. People who desperately and genuinely reached out. People who suffered appalling abuse and the worst consequences. Genocide, murder, torture. Not just stories in history but people who faced things in real-time, seeing their children murdered, seeing their loved ones taken and more. The problem with the religious proposition is it's full of overstated goodness of God and how he loves us and yet society and history is bursting with examples of his indifference and cruelty. He is not a good God, or a loving God. There is no testimony to this only that people keep repeating that he is. Tragic, misguided, thoughtless followship.

Indeed - the title was ill-chosen!
He sidelined it
he clearly logically showed the paradox of atheism saying science pursuit the truth and by coincidence discovering physical and mathematical laws describing perfectly the universe starting from a postition humans are motivated only by survivor instincts then evolution based on surviving cannot produce science pursuing the truth because for each person surviving principles are different. It's a bit subtle and you need a logically trained mind to understand it. Dawkins red in his face during the whole speech got it perfectly and knew he couldn't logically argue that.

WELL SAID SIR!!!
For humans, the big survival attribute is a complex, highly flexible social organization that effectively counters existential threats. Whatever the mental or physical constructs used for that social organization are, they become a part of the individuals who survive and reproduce.
What "Devine Family"? FACT: We all came from our ancestors -- from prehistoric humans who came from ape-men who came from apes, etc. etc. And that's not a BELIEF...nor is it "DEVINE." Animals also long for their own kind.

"where's the evidence?"

There is no alternative belief out there...
"Only human conceit..."
Which lies behind much atheistic belief, surely? It always amuses me when 'scientifically-minded' individuals start babbling on about the Universe (ie the miniscule amount they DO know about it) and the Table of Elements etc etc _ad nauseam_ as though THEY were the only ones to have received an education in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics - the rest of us, presumably, believing (inter alia) that the World is a flat disc resting on the backs of four elephants, and that Santa Claus (like Manmade Global Warming) is real. Not so, I fear!
"I am incapable of believing in something for which there is no evidence."
Really?
Assuming this happens from time to time, that sentient technologically capable life arises, that is the very number I feel they have INFINITELY overestimated in the Drake equation. They picked 10k years or so, IIRC. Seeing what is happening now, with our environment, I expect 1,000 (staying technically capable) is probably a definite stretch.
Atheism: The equivalent of a print shop accident that sends everything into a tornado of spinning letters that land in perfect harmony that is The Encyclopedia Brittanica!! 🤣
Dear Brian, Romans 1 verse 20 God says in His Word the Bible, “for since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that all people are without excuse.”
Atheists prefer to believe in the absurd and it appears they are not willing to consider anything different, like for instance how the Sun is capable of thinking that it needs to be the exact size, the perfect distance from Earth, the correct heat so that it would be able to sustain life and has continued to burn faithfully.

Many in mankind are fools that have refused to believe in the One who created them. But many have and do. There is no mess. There are issues but those issues are caused by mankind. If God wanted to intervene He can and sometimes He has. However He has let mankind deal with the issue by themselves hopefully thru His laws ( that are defined to. avoid the mess ).
