His mother had brain issues and was paralyzed for almost 10,000. Days (hence the al Tool album name) and he was angry that she kept her faith the whole time and couldn't understand why.
Yeah the backstory on all of his music shows simply how brilliant Maynard is. He's an artist on the level of Trent Reznor and David Bowie, a transcendental artist who makes beautiful art out of his emotions.
ehhhh, You should listen to the commentary for this song on their dvd. Maynard explains what he believes the song to be about. Wasn't about his mother, but it is heavily religious in a hopeful way.
@Jackie O' nassa not exactly, I feel he simply came to terms with her devout beliefs and that it's part of the human condition. In a very recent interview he explains his views on religion, particularly Christianity and God, his views from what I could gather fall along the lines of agnosticism, though i don't think he has ever specifically called himself as such, nor an atheist. His views as a whole are much harder to pin down beyond that. www.google.com/amp/s/metalheadzone.com/tools-maynard-james-keenan-makes-big-confession-about-his-religious-belief/amp/
The lack of understanding passes from generation to generation there's no understanding why it's just the natural law almost young questioning old like why are you in your old ways very young fruit but old people can't because they're old they're molded in their ways
you're so touched and speechless after listening Tool and APC, it's really nice to see young people like you (I'm 43...) reacting like that with such bands. Thank you ! Quite obviously, you've got ears, heart, brain and guts. You MUST see TOOL in concert. And, because you've got ears, you have to try (naturally, if it's not already done...) Porcupine tree, Meshuggah (Djent fathers, thanx to them), Opeth, Jinjer, Gojira, Igorrr, Corpo-mente, Dead can Dance, and maybe some post-rock and sludge things like Neurosis (fahters in a some way too...), Cult of Luna, Julie Christmas, Chelsea Wolfe... and why not Primus ! Of course this is a non exhaustive list. I don't know you, I don't know if you listen other things than rock and metal. If not, you have to. Follow Tools'advices, enlarge your vision, enlarge your mind. All the best. Best regards from France. Bat The Fat PS: I hope my english is not so bad
Speaks to the pain he felt over so many years of watching Marie go through being confined to a chair. I was an angry 19 year old when my mother was taken from me, and can understand the rage and helplessness you feel at times like that. The noose is also a really good song.
This track is about his mother and how she was paralyzed but her faith never broke, so not only is MJK made at God but also resentment towards his mother for not questioning her faith. I which I believe makes her a strong women. But I can understand his anger. I thought the music matches the lyrics especially those mournful leads on the slide guitar. Just great, great song. Would suggest Tool Right in two, I believe it is his best attempt to marrying his scientific view of the world but also the romantic side faith has to offer. One love mana.
Saw them live last November, they opened up with eat the elephant and they kept the set going... for while after like 10 songs they stopped. Then that famous 5 stroke flam chop is heard and they started playing Judith. I turned over to my friend and we looked at each other. We began to yell, I told him we get to brag about this shit forever. And that scream near the end.. Maynard has still got it. This new Tool album will be fucking amazing.
Really like this one. Keenan has a remarkable skill to compose lyrics not also melodically and message vice awesome, but also rhythmically brilliant. He sings very percussively, too, and that's why he manages to make lyrics really bring the message to listeners powerful. Puscifer if the other James' band and strongly suggest to react them, too. Songs could be like The Remedy, the Arsonist or Toma.
Maynard wrote that in 2000...His Mom passed away in 2003 (I think). You can see that he has a huge difference in his attitude towards his Mom's life from this to Wings for Marie / 10,000 days (which was in 2006). As for other TOOL songs, Please do Parabol / Parabola. :)
I liked this song. I agree with you about the guitars and the vocals. I think it is so cool to see more women doing instruments and not just vocals. Thanks for sharing! Also take care of yourself and don't overdo it................. :-)
The song Jimmy (with intermission) from Tool begins Maynard's experience with his mother's downfall when he was 11 and she had a stroke. (Approx.) 10,000 days later (the reason for naming the album and song of the same name) she passed away. This was also the meaning of the line "10,000 days in the fire is long enough" from Wings for Marie pt. 2. Sorry for rambling. You may know all this by now, but i just found your channel a couple hours ago by accident. I've been binging on your reactions non-stop since. You can call me Sub #2164:D PS...Tool has been my favorite band since the 90's, but I also love your Gojira and Jinjer reacts. Ima go watch some more. Take care :)
This was written when she was still alive and Maynard started dealing with his pain, what he never did, when he was a kid... So all the anger of that kid is in this song... Check out Jimmy by Tool. Wish you would have done Jimmy before. It is about him deceiding to deal with his pain...
Love when others notice when Paz stops playing to put her hair up, right before getting back into it. Favorite part of the Vid, Love Perfect Circle, Love Tool.
I love how you react to good music for the first time like you should ,you are awesome. And I'm learning the meaning of his lyrics after all these years thank you.
MJK changing the world one soul at a time I’d like you to try something older undertow is the Best album Maynards vocals are insane I would start at the beginning, intolerance
Love your channel and reactions. You should check out more Tool and Perfect Circle stuff. The Passenger is great (Deftones but features Maynard), but for Perfect Circle; Orestes, The Noose, and Blue..and for tool; Eulogy, stinkfist, aenima, vicarious..for just several to start with. All songs Maynard is involved with are extremely deep and can be interpreted in many ways depending on the listener. Orestes is one of my personal favorites, although the title and lyrics at their face are about the greek mythological figure the song can be taken in so many directions in terms of what it can be interpreted as. Maynard does this intentionally (not even wanting to release concrete lyrics and never offers his own interpretation of the song he wrote and sings) so each individual can take it in and take from it what it might mean for them and not what it meant for him when he wrote/sang it.
Great reaction Mana!! had the privilege to see and hear Tool and APC in concert in 2017 what a great year that was!!! Give a listen to The Noose by APC! you will like it!
APC has been around since the 90's, just wanted to clarify this because you mentioned them as being new. Unless I misinterpreted this and you were saying that its new to you? In saying that, this song was written long before Wings/10,000 Days. There is a distinct difference in Maynard's attitude towards his mother's beliefs. In Judith he was obviously very angry, where as in Wings/10,000 Days he was much more understanding. Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed watching you and look forward to more Tool. P.S. Maynard also has a 3rd band he sings for named Puscifer. Check it out i think you'll enjoy it. Songs i would recommend, ' Humbling River', ' Potions', Horizons, Momma Sed.
keep on digging maam... billy howerdel is the guitarist who makes that guitar scream... hope i spelled his name correctly easily findable though... hes a master... this band is very very... be well.. j.
A perfect circle song orestes, disillusioned, the noose. All are on the softer side. Though all a perfect circle songs are good. All 3 albums you can just press play as for TOOL.
I'm a little late to the party...but how about Ana's Song by Silverchair. Definitely not a heavy sounding song but the vocals are amazing and the lyrics are rather meaningful once you realize what the song is about.
You should try to get in as much MJK as possible because when the new album drops no one is going to be watching your reaction videos for about six months LOL
Hundredth comment woo! Just started checking out your videos, you are an amazing person! I recommend "passive" by APC it's also about his mother I believe but I listen to it when I think of my ex Also, can't believe how beautiful you are without make-up!
To finish up the trilogy, you should react to the songs Intermission /Jimmy by Tool, you've actually done them in reverse order, but it doesn't dampen their impact, as you've shown already. Jimmy is basically about Maynard dealing with the trauma of his mother's aneurism and her paralysis, it happened when he was 11.
Totally recommend this band called "Onesidezero" you gotta try reacting to sometime on your channel since you seem to enjoy Maynard James Keenans projects such as Tool and APC as much as i do you might be impressed with how onesidezeros vocalist sounds a lot like maynard it upsets me that onesidezero never went onto any billboard charts in modern rock they could have made their career reaching popularity which makes them underrated tbh also they were as talented as any other group in the 2000s which is when they made a debut if you ever try reacting to onesidezero listen to their song new world order its heavy as fuck
Please react to Maynard s 3rd band Pusifur, I suggest The Remedy, or Potions, or Grand Canyon. It’s s must now. You will see Maynard can make anyone sound good.
Loved seeing your genuine reaction to this song..MJK is crazy good. I’m new to your channel but good night..your mic was WAY too hot. I’m sure you figured all this out already and got your levels setup in a more balanced way. Great content tho!
Paz Lenchantin is a great bass player, love when she puts her hair up before getting back to playing.
rx7dude2006 This exactly!
One of the greatest parts of the video. Complete domain of the timing. So sexy and powerful.
His mother had brain issues and was paralyzed for almost 10,000. Days (hence the al Tool album name) and he was angry that she kept her faith the whole time and couldn't understand why.

3 Libras - A Perfect Circle 🙌
3 Libras should definitely be the second song in line for A Perfect Circle.

Now the Outsider!
Agree! Listen to the Outsider!
Directors cut!

You should also do The Passenger by Deftones it features Maynard in it too.
agree
The purposeful absence of the third chorus in that song pisses me off every time lol. It's a great song though
Such a good freaking song!!! I absolutely agree and I think she'll like it too 😁
"passenger"
they played this song when i saw them live last week and hooo boy, it sounds even better live. they're incredible. react to "orestes" next!
This is an amazing song, MJK is a musical, lyrical Lord .
Saw them live last November, they opened up with eat the elephant and they kept the set going... for while after like 10 songs they stopped. "you are such an inspiration for the ways I would never ever choose to be", great line imo
Paz tying up her hair is legendary and well known
This is a very welcome sight after my kids waking me up at 3am
Really like this one. Keenan has a remarkable skill to compose lyrics not also melodically and message vice awesome, but also rhythmically brilliant. TOOL KNOCK #1 on the billboard charts love ya Mr.Mayard
A Perfect Circle is an amazing band and so is Tool, I hope you can check out Tool song Eulogy sometime. It’s great
maybe opiate if she wants to see his view of religion from earlier..
I liked this song. I agree with you about the guitars and the vocals. I think it is so cool to see more women doing instruments and not just vocals. Thanks for sharing! Also take care of yourself and don't overdo it................. :-)
I recently asked for names of bands with women who play instruments, and without a woman who sings :P (or at least not the lead singer)
you should do Passive, The Outsider and Talk Talk by APC.
Try some Puscifer too
Remedy by puscifer is top notch
@@1Spriggzy1 yep, the remedy, the arsonist and i also quite like humbling river
@@stefanforrer2573 what are we kidding, all of the band's featuring Maynard are worth a listen.

Orestes is probably their best and most underrated song. it's not a really hard song but vocally Maynard is king.
LOL I spent ages looking for this song back in the day. I pretty much listened to every Tool album, but never found it.
Love when others notice when Paz stops playing to put her hair up, right before getting back into it. Favorite part of the Vid, Love Perfect Circle, Love Tool.
this band debuted in 2000
I love how you react to good music for the first time like you should ,you are awesome. And I'm learning the meaning of his lyrics after all these years thank you.
so nw you have to check Jimmy by tool. first song about his mother
MJK changing the world one soul at a time

He does offer his interpretations from time to time but yes, it's supposed to be open as is the case with most music.
Great reaction Mana!! had the privilege to see and hear Tool and APC in concert in 2017 what a great year that was!!! Give a listen to The Noose by APC! you will like it!
Rose, Magdelina, and Brena are my favorite. Perhaps that is the point.
Why does everyone from netherlands have perfect english. It's amazing makes me want to visit.
A “new band”? I first saw them live over a decade ago.
APC has been around since the 90's, just wanted to clarify this because you mentioned them as being new. Unless I misinterpreted this and you were saying that its new to you? There is a rare duet with Maynard and Tory Amos. Mohammad my friend. It’s a must listen!

Much love from New Orleans!!! My daughter loves your reactions!!
Greetings. To you and your daughter :-)
I love watching you enjoy this!!!!😊
Puscifer - Horizons
Yes!!! One of my favorites!
Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Don’t ask me why because I don’t even know but this video reminds me of “The Hills Have Eyes 2”. Cheers!
The best song on that album is Breña for me. The bass entrance es lovely and the Maynard's vocals are "cossa fina".
Love this song ! Thanks 🤘🤘
To complete the Maynard trifecta, check out Puscifer - Grand Canyon. It's very different to both Tool and APC, but still incredibly deep and moving.
Sorrow turns to anger.............
Tool, APC and PUSCIFER are the MJK trifecta! Try Horizons or The Green Valley - Puscifer , totally different sound but still epic af!
A perfect circle song orestes, disillusioned, the noose. All are on the softer side. Though all a perfect circle songs are good. All 3 albums you can just press play as for TOOL.
Check out Code Orange - Bleeding in the Blur
You should cover By and Down by A Perfect Circle.
Mana..looks like she just woke up..after a hard night of beer..& cheeseburgers..
I'm a little late to the party...but how about Ana's Song by Silverchair. Definitely not a heavy sounding song but the vocals are amazing and the lyrics are rather meaningful once you realize what the song is about.

Of course, the answer is that the rain falls on the just and the unjust, alike.
