    It is useful to mention that this song was written before Judith died. After she passed in 2003, Maynard calmed down and wrote 10,000 days/Wings praising her rather than being angry at her.

    • @frankz5103
      @frankz5103 3 года назад +1

      Was angry at her so much as angry at her fellow church goers who ostracized her after her aneurysm saying it was a punishment from god.

    I tend to reserve my comments or judgment until the end of the song - I know some people give out about the lack of comment throughout...on the flip side - other people give out if you talk over the track or talk so there’s really no winning, lol. I’ll just do me and those who enjoy my style of ‘reacting’ then that’s perfect - I’ll offer insights before and after the track!🙏🏻

      I like how you you mostly leave the editorial till the song is over. On the other hand, a shout out "Damn! The drums are killer" without pausing is a true reaction in the moment and that's awesome! I personally skip the reactors that constantly pause. It ruins the continuity of the song plus they always stop it at the worst part! Lol keep it up 👍(your facial expressions say it all) also listen to a perfect circle The Outsider on tonight show. CRAZY

    'Gravity'--it's a very slow, introverted sort of song but one of the most beautiful Maynard ever sang. After my only son died 4 years ago this song helped me to keep surviving, the line 'lift me back up to the sun/I choose to live' still sends a shiver through me.

    Many other APC songs aren't quite as aggressive as "Judith" but are just as good. As many others have commented, "The Outsider" "The Noose" and "Orestes" are all fantastic. APC does a great job of matching the feel of the music to the vocals. You're right, everything Maynard touches seems to turn gold. Check out their videos of the "Stone and Echo" live show... it's next level.
    I remember seeing a comment on another page describing Tool as Maynard's intellect (super technical) and APC is Maynard's emotion. If you ever venture into checking out Puscifer, I'd start with either "Grand Canyon" or "The Remedy."

    Awesome assessment, lad. Delighted to have ya listen to APC and hear how Maynard sounds in a different musical environment. APC have a very gothic, melodic, dark atmosphere to them. This song is a classic, complete with searing, stabbing riffs, and was an ideal introduction to the band , 20 years ago.
    They incorporate multi layers of synths, orchestration, and acoustic guitars to their songs. And with the songs not being in the same tuning as Tool stick to, its great hearing Maynard's voice take new shapes and sounds.. This debut album was met with critical acclaim, and I recommend ya listen to the whole ting, mate. My personal faves from it are "Hollow", "Magdelana", and the brilliant, bruised gem "Three Libras". That song is stunning,and is so cool hearing Maynard adapt a more I dunno, "gentle" vulnerable tone to carry the song. I think you'll like that one. Some of this album in general really shines alongside Tools coolest moments. Shorter songs than Tool, but with loads of atmosphere, like something from a movie.
    Second album "Thirteenth Step" had a coupla bangers on there- like "The Outsider", but overall its a more chilled, deeper affair, taking more cues from bands like The Cure- which is a good ting aswell. Whatever ya listen to, enjoy ,man.

    MJK has done a lot of songs about his mom. Judith, Wings for Mary 1 & 2, Jimmy, The Grudge and many many more. Anything from APC is perfect. A lot different from Tool but still great,

      The Grudge? Forgive me, but I don't see it.

    • @SeanD313
      @SeanD313 4 года назад +1

      Myles Muir ‘The Grudge’ could be seen as Maynard talking to himself... trying to deal with the grudge(s) he holds - against God, those in “the congregation” he mentions in ‘Wings’, etc - surrounding his mothers ordeal. Eventually, he convinces himself to “let go” and that catharsis (the massive scream near the end of the song) clears the way for the spiritual journey that makes up the rest of the ‘Lateralus’ album.

    • @meb882
      @meb882 4 года назад +1

      @@mylesmuir2569 So MJK has often indicated that their songs are left for individual interpretations therefore mine is not necessarily right. My short version of the interpretation is that Maynard rid himself of the grudge he held about his mother's death. Grudge against his mother for clinging to the church who he did not think supported her, to the church itself etc. Also, the line "Saturn comes back around", in my interpretation, correlates to ~30 years when Saturn returns to earth's orbit which also matches how long his mother was first ill till she passed on. This song is him admitting that he has rid himself of his grudge. Again, just my interpretation(not to be taken as fact).

      For me, I’m also paralyzed and a pious Christian, and my mother also has past away & was Christian.
      So you see, when I hear this song, my entire body tingles and I have a very surreal almost religious experience.
      I’ve felt this anger, I understand it but I also love my God and maintain faith... it’s almost like my suffering emboldens my faith and this song lets me step outside myself to appreciate that. Thanks for reacting to this!

    The album, "Thirteenth Step," is an homage to friends lost to drugs. Each song is sung from a different affected individual's perspective, from the addict ("The Package", "Weak and Powerless", "Gravity"), to a close friend ("The Noose", "Vanishing", "A Stranger", "The Outsider") to the drug itself's perspective ("Pet").
    Pretty great stuff.

    Glad to see you starting the APC journey. This is from their first album. Their next album, 13th Step, is a bit more polished and less raw as you might expect. I recommend Weak and Powerless followed by 3 Libras, then wind back to Mer de Noms with Orestes and Thomas. You will ultimately fall in love with them, especially the first two albums.

    Howedel was Adam Jones' guitar tech up to first Ænema tour date in '96. I could tell you the exact date only because I have the bootleg videa in which Maynard thanks him and acknowledges it's his last show with the band. Is it sad I know these things? LOL And if you're wondering Mer De Noms is french for "Book of Names". A large % of titles are names.
