    What a line up - Maynard from Tool, Paz who’s in The Pixies, Troy who’s in Queens of the Stone Age and Josh who’s now in Foo Fighters. 🙌🏻

    Yes, the lead singer is Maynard James Keenan from Tool. He’s also one of the singers in the band Puscifer. This song is about his mother, Judith Marie, who was very religious, and was paralyzed for years (10000 days) from an aneurysm, prior to her death in 2003. Tool’s tracks “Wings for Marie” parts 1 & 2(10000 Days) are somewhat of a eulogy for his mother. Those are worth a listen as well🌀

    I like that you listen to the whole song, with facial reactions, not backtracking. APC , the outsider, live was awesome.

    Judith is Maynard's mother who spent a good portion of Maynard's life paralyzed. This song is him questioning her faith. It's not like she was a murderer, or one of the Roman's who crucified Jesus herself. Why then would God have done this to her and why would she still pray to him?
    "He did it all for you"

    This is my favourite band after Nightwish, Judith is a very special song, it was written by Maynard about his feelings or rage and despair about his mother staying devout Christian despite being paralysed for 20 years, Maynard could never reconcile the way she was with her faith, he despised the church as a result. This video also contains probably the coolest moment in a video when Paz has a break in the bassline and ties up her hair, (I know it is staged but so well done) The song has a whole range of emotions from pain to hate to love to despair. p.s. you have been going through my itunes ROFL

      @@TheWolffAndTheMelody It is a passionate song with strong emotions, brilliantly done, the whole of Mer De Nom is heavy and dark in places but at no point does it drop the emotional ball

    Just felt the need to add on: After Maynard's mother became wheelchair bound/paralyzed at the age of 27 she sought help from her own church. Their answer to her was "Well, you must have done something to deserve this." Which, if not simply legend, is obviously an extremely sh*tty thing to do. Even after this point she remained faithful to her beliefs while her son watched her suffer and deteriorate over time until she passed away at age 59. Or at least so the story goes, I suppose.

    It sounds like he's saying to his mother "your own god did this to you, why do you still follow God if he left you paralysed". And maybe that is how he felt at the time. However, 6 years later (his mother had passed by then) with TOOL in the songs Wings for Marie / 10,000 Days, it's more clear that it's the people of his mother's church who said that it must have been God's will that she became paralysed. The people of her own church who said that she must have done something wrong, and that it must have been God punishing her. And it shows that Maynard is mainly angry with those people. Even if he himself doesn't believe in God, he has at least some degree of respect for his mother's faith and basically says "if heaven does exist, and if there's anyone who would deserve to get into heaven, it would be my mother, because she was better than all of them". And he admires his mother for keeping her faith through it all, even though it would have been so easy for her to think "I can't believe in a God that would do this to me".
    I feel like "Judith" has a more raw anger, while "Wings for Marie" and "10,000 Days" definitely still contain anger, but it's more.. directed, and nuanced? Highly recommend those songs, especially together because they're really 2 parts of the same song.
    Btw his mother's name was Judith Marie Keenan so the "Marie" in the title "Wings for Marie" also refers to her, and "10,000 Days" refers (roughly) to the time she was paralysed, the last 27-ish years of her life.

    I'll admit that back in the day I felt kinda the same about more "popular sounding" bands like A Perfect Circle. Their first album came out a little after Highschool for me, but I was still heavily into Old school Underground Punk and Hardcore back then, so anything that was on mainstream radio or MTV I kinda scoffed at. It's refreshing to see your reactions to these same bands that I'm trying to listen to a lot more of now. Powerful song btw.🤘🤘

    I think religion per se isn't necessarily bad, the problem is the way the highly organized monoteistic and hierarchical religions often falls into this obsession with guilt and shame, everything is "sinful" etc..., i'm very interested in paganism and you don't see nearly as much of that stuff there, it's kinda more life-affirming. Just my thoughts though, not trying to bash anyone. Anyway, this song gives me strong 90's/grunge vibes and i kinda dig that.

    Not a lyrics guy either but after a few Judith listens, wow! So tired of atheists having to defend themselves while "faith" is energetically accepted. If the lyrics hit you, def reco Tool "Wings for Marie / 10,000 Days." It's an anger/acceptance/undying love balance he's working out. And RIP to Judith Marie.
    My MJK take in tone and lyrics is he's waaay more relaxed and reasonable in APC. I think it goes Tool is his Ego, APC Superego, Puscifer is ID.

    • @heyskipj
      @heyskipj 8 месяцев назад +1

      Tool fans: MJK legendarily writes lyrics after listening to the music/takes, right? Isn't that a super simplification? How could "Wings" ever be written without exhaustive collaboration?

    I don't want to offend anyone, but I think, religion and religious believes are poison. Because believing unproven claims, even if you don't do any harm, make you more likely to believe other unproven stuff as well.
