Yes, this was different from A LOT of other APC, but hey, they're trying something different. In fact, there was much of Eat The Elephant that was trying something new - some of it worked, some didn't. I, for one, loved the album, and especially this track!! On first listen, I had to bring the needle back, and crank it up! I love the heaviness mixed with the softer piano parts. This song is full of dynamics...and it's epic! I'd consider going on to Talk Talk, The Doomed & Disillusioned from this album next!

Mer De Noms and Thirteen Step are amazing albums all the way through. Eat The Elephant is good but doesn’t give you the same feeling as the others. That’s my opinion though. 😊
You should do 3 little pigs by Green Jelly. That's the band where Maynard, Adam and Danny first met and played together. The voice of the three little pigs is Maynard in the song. Danny on drums and I think it was Adam Jones who did the stop motion stuff on the video.
My friend highly recommend checking out some older stuff by APC such as passive, pet, or the outsider for sure, incase you do dive more into it highly recommend delicious off the new record all fantastic pieces of art

When I first heard it I was like "what's that?!", But then I really liked it. It's experimental, it's new, has a catchy chorus.. it's great like the rest of the album!
The entire album is a masterpiece. I'm pretty sure I know every lyric to every song. If you've not listened yet, when you get a chance, I would highly recommend it. Very experimental, I agree. Also, they voted yesterday not to allow witnesses in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump, so the song is even more poignant.
I love this whole album but I would recommend Disillusioned, The Doomed or By and Down. Honestly this one is like jumping into the deep end, just react to all of them! lol

The song is credited to APC, but I have suspected from the first listen that it is almost entirely contributed by MJK due to strong similarities with many Puscifer songs. I enjoy this song a ton because I enjoy weird experimental stuff. But I have to agree with alot of others to give their first two albums, "Mer de Noms" and "Thirtienth Step", more of a try. To start with: "Outsider", "Pet", "Orestes", "3 Libras", "The Package", "Magdelena".
If you are exploring A Perfect Circle then may I suggest starting at the beginning and working your way to the present? 3 libras(official video), the hollow, you already did Judith. Then move on to the outsider, blue, weak and powerless(official video). After that you have disillusioned(official video), eat the elephant, the doomed, talk talk, and finally "so long and thanks for all the fish(official video). That is a well rounded full take on their career right there.
3 Libra's is always my go to, then pretty much anything from Thirteenth Step, Judith, The Hollow, Orestes etc. Feathers & So Long are tied first place from the new album. This is probably the most "Puscifer" sounding APC track
This entire album is experimental. In some songs the vocals are more delicate with almost Bowie-esque stocatto piano parts. There is one song that sounds disgustingly cheerful, but the lyrics are rather sarcastic and decidedly un-cheerful. There is a bit of Pusifer seeping into this as well with "get the led out". I really don't think this album gets the credit it deserves. People are so consumed with how APC sounded in the beginning that they are incapable of accepting anything fresh and new from them.
Eat the elephant is a fantastic album, give it a few listens before you decide. There's only a couple songs on it that I don't really care for and the rest are all in my playlist on the reg.

We love the reactions Drew, I think it would be best to listen to APC in chronological order IMO. Much like TOOL it is an expansion and experiment of the mind, just think of the band names... Mer de Noms first then Thirteenth Step followed by Eat the Elephant the way history intended. Keep it up !
APC are a great band, Judith was my favourite song in high school when it released. The most recent album is very different to their other stuff. PS Every time someone nods their head out of time to a song, I get closer to commiting genocide. That is all...
Imma be honest, i'm a huge fan of Tool and APC but i didn't like the majority of this album, besides The Doom, Disillusioned and Delicious. This is one of those times where i wouldn't check out the whole album.
In reference to your comment on Maynard's cryptic/opaque messages, I think it's relevant to say that Jesus spoke in parables everyday, and it is not out of the realm of possibilities that Jesus lives on through Maynard.
The outsider is indeerd their best track in my opinion, or preference. But the political shit is also carries very vwell in talktalk en the doomed on the lattest ablum. But mostely those songs are also awesom!
