I hope he gets to play the role of Alan Wake for the live action AMC show. They could continue the voiceover with Matthew Porretta. AMC needs to keep the same cast as much as possible. RIP James McCaffrey.
Honestly if it ain't either Ilkka or Matt or both as the role of Alan in the AMC series I probably very likely won't watch. At this point nobody is Alan Wake but Ilkka and Matt, I will not take anyone else to play the role but them. Lol. Sorry, but just how I feel. They solidified themselves as Alan, playing the role again and again all these years that someone else playing the role would just be very odd and not right.
I've always said that actors who enjoy their roles thoroughly are my favorites and I can say without a doubt that Ilkka and Matthew as a tag team both gushing about how much they love their roles is just such a treat. Alan Wake 2 was my horror game of the year for 2023, I hope that the DLC and a potential third game can hit those same notes (and I have full faith they will)
About Sam acting in Alan Wake 2, it reminds me of David Lynch playing Gordon in Twin Peaks. They're not really actors, but they play really important and memorable characters in both projects. With all the inspiration AW takes from Twin Peaks, it makes sense Sam got so involved with the acting too.

Currently playing Alan Wake. Only downside. I wish there was more Tom Zane and Alan because I absolutely love every scene. He absolutely crushed the role and I only have good things to say about his acting. You deserve all the praise and recognition Ilkka. What I love about actors like him is that they treasure their each role, some like Trevor's actor in GTA comes to hate their character eventually but in Ilkka's case he seems to be really glad they he became part of such a projet.
Ilkka villi is an amazing actor and a sweet person. I'd love to see him playing Alan in the Alan Wake show too, he would do great. I'd love to see him acting in other games too. The performance he gave us in the game is absolutely incredible and shows how much talented he is, on top of the love he puts in his job!

I’m just coming into the Alan Wake series and literally started playing the game last night. I was pretty young when it came out and so upon the second game releasing I was like “Oh this is cool…. I must play all of it!”
I always wondered why the live action vs CG scenes with Alan felt different, delivery-wise. It makes a lot of sense. I'd heard them say that they went back and forth, but I assumed they had done that for live action too. It makes a lot more sense for them to just do Matthew's dubs on top of a straight take with Ilkka's acting. It would be unbelievably demanding to try to do that back and forth with live action - at least double the shooting time, not to mention the time in between for Matthew to read the lines, etc. What I'm referring to is how in some live action scenes (particularly the Talk Show scenes) there is a distinct quality / affectation to Alan's voice, which isn't there in the CG. For the CG scenes, Alan sounds a lot more like he did in the first game, but with the live action it's apparent that Matthew is focusing on matching the vocal delivery to the live action performance - focusing more on making sure it fits. It's fascinating how they managed to pull this game off, especially with both Ilkka and Matthew playing Alan. Absolutely wild. And it was unreal to see them both performing at the Game Awards!
I think its noticeable because its live action and that in itself is different, if that makes sense. But yes, it was such an unreal moment to see them at The Game Awards
The rock songs in Remedy’s games were always a favorite and then when I got to the musical part in AW2 I just had the biggest smile on my face. I couldn’t stop laughing with pure joy. It was great. I have not been that ecstatic and joyful playing a game for a little while.

today i reached the part where "HERALD OF DARKNESS" song plays and that song filled me with hype so much. Half way through this game and i can understand why this game is psychological horror, story writing of remedy is on the point and creative director Sam Lake had done great work (as he is my fav childhood actor) and remedy is my top 3 fav gaming company. They delivers so complex stories
In the 'Balance Slays the Demon' song that features in the Alan Wake American Nightmare game, the lyrics are "his beautiful face and his leather and lace can you see the play he stages", the description didn't suit any of the characters in the game, but it does suit Thomas Zane in Alan Wake 2.
This was an amazing interview! The questions seem really well thought and interesting. A few things I wondered myself lol I can't explain it but I find it so amazing that actors/voice actors/etc. interview like this for youtube. I mean, idk, they don't have to and it's always engaging and respectful. To me it comes off and being really grounded and humble to interview outside the high tier media scene. So nice to hear Ikka's answers, congrats on the success, he deserves so much more!
i love that ilkka is doing more interviewa and being more of a figure, at a certain poit it was hard to find him talking about aw , and still to this day its so weird to hear his voice without him putting on a character
It's so strange to hear Ilkka talking in his normal voice, I am so used to Matthew Porretta's voice instead :D When I first played Alan Wake 2 and he met Thomas Zane / Seine I thought "Huh, who is that? Who is the voice actor?" before realizing that this IS Ilkka Villi without a beard and with his own voice. Whoops.
Also i think its really interesting how a lot of the first game was clearly influenced by Twin Peaks but ironically the sequel has the hindsight of being able to be inspired by the return of Twin Peaks. I haven’t played the second game yet but from what I’ve heard Mr scratch is just out in the world while Alan is Trapped, much like Mr. C and Dale Cooper.

Growing up around Finnish people and parents he definitely has one, but its alot less pronounced then say Sam Lake, who has a very Finnish accent. It really depends if you live in Finland your whole life or are a 2nd/3rd generation Fin living somewhere else

It definitely does. Something that Remedy excelled in with this game. Definitely in the future, there will be more of that however just like in this game, it was limited to Alan. I want the future games to also have limited scenes and also only have those scenes if that makes sense to the character
Ilkka was born for that role. I think, if someone esle had got his place in 2010, we, maybe, would've not love that character. He did it in very particular way, just nailed it.❤❤❤❤

I just finished Alan Wake 1 yesterday and I think I would’ve personally preferred a bit more live action segments. Ilkka looks so different in the few in it, saying that i just think he looks amazing with the long hair and beard. I’d love to see him in more things and any future Remedy projects.

Alan Wake II bonded gameplay to live action cutscenes more fluently than Quantum Break did. I loved Quantum Break so much and just knew I had to play the other Remedy Games. Definitely glad I did and I was so happy to be a fan and look forward to AW2’s release. I definitely didn’t expect that much live action and I was very happy with it.

The rock songs in Remedy’s games were always a favorite and then when I got to the musical part in AW2 I just had the biggest smile on my face. I couldn’t stop laughing with pure joy. It was great. I have not been that ecstatic and joyful playing a game for a little while.

his voice is more similar to the guy that voices alan wake than I remember? he sounds almost like he could do the alan wake voice himself??? His American accent is nearly perfect
He can, he has lived with this character for so long and has been a friend with the voice actor for so long that I believe has helped him speak better
I was thinking this too. His normal accent could easily work if he ever had to play Alan alone.

Its so great to see Alan Wake 2 because when I played Alan Wake 1 I was in my first year at university and it was a very different time. in Moldova, in the world, what kind of computers there were, everything was different) I always wanted Alan Wake 2, but the years go and go, and the whole world changes, and my life, and when I bought and played part 2 and saw it.. .it was like meeting an old friend) when I played AWE and saw Alan's shadow I got goosebumps, but playing the second part is so cool) I want to say thank you to Sam Lake, Ilkka, Matt and the whole Remedy team ! sorry for my english if anything)

today i reached the part where "HERALD OF DARKNESS" song plays and that song filled me with hype so much. Half way through this game and i can understand why this game is psychological horror, story writing of remedy is on the point and creative director Sam Lake had done great work (as he is my fav childhood actor) and remedy is my top 3 fav gaming company. They delivers so complex stories

In the 'Balance Slays the Demon' song that features in the Alan Wake American Nightmare game, the lyrics are "his beautiful face and his leather and lace can you see the play he stages", the description didn't suit any of the characters in the game, but it does suit Thomas Zane in Alan Wake 2.

This was an amazing interview! The questions seem really well thought and interesting. A few things I wondered myself lol I can't explain it but I find it so amazing that actors/voice actors/etc. interview like this for youtube. I mean, idk, they don't have to and it's always engaging and respectful. To me it comes off and being really grounded and humble to interview outside the high tier media scene. So nice to hear Ikka's answers, congrats on the success, he deserves so much more!

When I first played Alan Wake 2 and he met Thomas Zane / Seine I thought "Huh, who is that? Who is the voice actor?" before realizing that this IS Ilkka Villi without a beard and with his own voice. Whoops.

Also i think its really interesting how a lot of the first game was clearly influenced by Twin Peaks but ironically the sequel has the hindsight of being able to be inspired by the return of Twin Peaks. I haven’t played the second game yet but from what I’ve heard Mr scratch is just out in the world while Alan is Trapped, much like Mr. C and Dale Cooper.
You're right, and it doesn't end there. There are many similarities with Twin Peaks season 3 beyond just plot elements. You'll see. :)

Growing up around Finnish people and parents he definitely has one, but its alot less pronounced then say Sam Lake, who has a very Finnish accent. It really depends if you live in Finland your whole life or are a 2nd/3rd generation Fin living somewhere else
He doesnt have strong an accent as sam lake. But yes he does have a slight accent.

The blend between live action and cinematic makes this game so damn unique. I can’t imagine a remedy game in the future without them
It definitely does. Something that Remedy excelled in with this game. Definitely in the future, there will be more of that however just like in this game, it was limited to Alan. I want the future games to also have limited scenes and also only have those scenes if that makes sense to the character
the fact that he got on all fours and made that decision right there and then paid off so well. really sold how unhinged Tom Zane was
Right? Its so crazy that he made that decision while playing Alan Wake.
Ilkka was born for that role. I think, if someone esle had got his place in 2010, we, maybe, would've not love that character. He did it in very particular way, just nailed it.❤❤❤❤
well he didn't voice the character, that was Matthew Porretta. Ilkka was the face and he did all the physical acting for the character

The Alan Wake series is one of the rare few that had realses that are perfectly timed as they are. So much tech went into the second game and I'm here for it all. We Sing!

I just finished Alan Wake 1 yesterday and I think I would’ve personally preferred a bit more live action segments. Ilkka looks so different in the few in it, saying that i just think he looks amazing with the long hair and beard. I’d love to see him in more things and any future Remedy projects.

Alan Wake II bonded gameplay to live action cutscenes more fluently than Quantum Break did. I loved Quantum Break so much and just knew I had to play the other Remedy Games. Definitely glad I did and I was so happy to be a fan and look forward to AW2’s release. I definitely didn’t expect that much live action and I was very happy with it.
