Jesus said himself that not one jot or tittle is to be changed from the old mosaic laws and whoever doesn't follow every old Jewish commandment will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. The only message that's consistent throughout the whole book is the requirement of belief. You can break every commandment laid down but the only sin that cannot be forgiven is the sin of disbelief. Meaning you could be the most destructive and damaging person ever to walk the earth, but it you believe in the Bible, you're saved. Simultaneously, you could be the most kind-hearted and saintlike atheist but because you didn't believe, you're going to hell. That's the biggest problem I have with the whole book.

The way I understand this is the song isn't just about his mum's belief, but the way that her congregation reacted as well. The line "It's not like you killed someone", I think is in reference to the way they reacted to her, not an admonition her her beliefs necessarily.
Maynard is angry to the people of their congregation. They didn't want Judith to be take in the hospital and btw the line "Talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why" states that he's blaming God but at the same time God doesn't know that this thing is happening.
I believe that Maynard's ideas have evolved and he downplays the anger he felt towards god when he originally wrote the song. Kind of like if you write a horrible letter to a girlfriend during a breakup and then have to explain it a year later.

As a Christian who loves Maynard... i get it. My mother had faith till the end which I now see as a blessing but I was angry at the time but I didn't have an amazing talent to share that pain with the world the way he did.

No Christian here, but I understand Judith's faith. My uncle was paralyzed at 6 after being hit by a car. I was very close to him, and he always said this is temporary. He believed so much he quit taking the medicine that kept him alive, and said God will heal me, or he wants me by his side. He died April 19, 1993, after a horrible drawn out death after 6 months. I was 10. FUCK GODS

As someone who definitely isnt a Christian I appreciate the fact that someone who is can at least understand why a person might have these views. Especially Rene being so young. We as Christians often talk about blessings. We don't talk about some of the more distressing promises from God. One of those promises is that we will suffer. Another is that people will hate us for loving God, even our families. I never met the woman but if her faith evoked this reaction I believe she is blessed for the rest of eternity.

What you're saying it's what's being translated from some religious embellishments in a book that was written by guys who, several generations later, wrote things that have heard from other guys who met guys who said that they knew other guys who heard stories from guys who could have possibly've met a guy who (never really) said he could have being divinely insipred.

Here's what's even more interesting. In the bible Christ says that all manner of sins may be forgiven if one asks for forgiveness and accepts him as their savior. But he says there is only 1 sin that shall never be forgiven. And that is blasphemy against the holy spirit. Which is exactly what Maynard does in the 3rd sentence. Btw that was the only curse word on the entire album. They were only allowed one and Maynard put it here. "Fuck your God". Maynard is well read. So he definitely knows that this sin is unforgivable in the eyes of God and not only did he curse God but he decided to use his only available f-bomb to do it. Really a deep way of saying "I've chosen my path and I'm confident in it"

Most people, including clergy and Christian leaders just don't understand what's in the Bible which is what breeds this anger. All they have to do is look at the story of Job for an example. The devil claims Job is only faithful because he gets a lot of blessings and favor from God. So he tells God that if takes those things away Job will curse God to his face. And God says fine. Wanna test that out YOU take his blessings away and make him suffer. Because he's been faithful and I'm not touching him. This shows a couple of things. One, when stuff happens to good people it is not God that's responsible for it. He is not stealing our loved ones back to Heaven when they die or killing them in wars and such. Bad stuff happens to good people because the devil is an asshole. Not God. If you're gonna believe in one, you gotta believe in the other. Two, after Job went through all he went through, because he did keep his faith, he was rewarded double. Which is what Judith was likely counting on and why she could keep her faith. God doesn't do any bad things to anybody and he has no need to prematurely kill good people. And he rewards if you persevere. This is not what a lot of so called religions teach, but it's right there in the Bible they claim to follow. This is just one example.

This is my favorite A Perfect Circle song, although to be fair I've only heard this one and 3 Libras. I understand Maynard's point of the song however as Christians have been "called" to believe, everything happens for a reason. "The many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you.." He will never abandon nor forsake you. "F*** your God, he's the one that did this to you.." There's no sense in blaming him for the bad things that happen. He doesn't let anything like that happen to anyone.

Hiya! Liked the video. Just putting it out there that in my books you're good Christians for taking your time to listen to whatever someone else wants to sing about and not judge, but understand their viewpoint. To be a good religious person in my opinion is to be open to others and love them no matter what, (I hope you don't mind this coming from an atheist, I just appreciated your thoughts a lot) so... nothing but compliments on your behalf ^^. We as Christians often talk about blessings. We don't talk about some of the more distressing promises from God. One of those promises is that we will suffer. Another is that people will hate us for loving God, even our families. I never met the woman but if her faith evoked this reaction I believe she is blessed for the rest of eternity.
"God" never promised anything. What you're saying it's what's being translated from some religious embellishments in a book that was written by guys who, several generations later, wrote things that have heard from other guys who met guys who said that they knew other guys who heard stories from guys who could have possibly've met a guy who (never really) said he could have being divinely insipred.

Here's what's even more interesting. In the bible Christ says that all manner of sins may be forgiven if one asks for forgiveness and accepts him as their savior. But he says there is only 1 sin that shall never be forgiven. And that is blasphemy against the holy spirit. Which is exactly what Maynard does in the 3rd sentence. Btw that was the only curse word on the entire album. They were only allowed one and Maynard put it here. "Fuck your God". Maynard is well read. So he definitely knows that this sin is unforgivable in the eyes of God and not only did he curse God but he decided to use his only available f-bomb to do it. Really a deep way of saying "I've chosen my path and I'm confident in it"
In all honesty, if there is a God, a challenge or two is probably accepted. And could be taken. Thats what this song does

It doesn’t make sense to analyse it in a vacuum. It’s one song and won’t cover his full spectrum of experience. It’s like judging someone on a conversation you over heard.

Most people, including clergy and Christian leaders just don't understand what's in the Bible which is what breeds this anger. All they have to do is look at the story of Job for an example. The devil claims Job is only faithful because he gets a lot of blessings and favor from God. So he tells God that if takes those things away Job will curse God to his face. And God says fine. Wanna test that out YOU take his blessings away and make him suffer. Because he's been faithful and I'm not touching him. This shows a couple of things. One, when stuff happens to good people it is not God that's responsible for it. He is not stealing our loved ones back to Heaven when they die or killing them in wars and such. Bad stuff happens to good people because the devil is an asshole. Not God. If you're gonna believe in one, you gotta believe in the other. Two, after Job went through all he went through, because he did keep his faith, he was rewarded double. Which is what Judith was likely counting on and why she could keep her faith. God doesn't do any bad things to anybody and he has no need to prematurely kill good people. And he rewards if you persevere. This is not what a lot of so called religions teach, but it's right there in the Bible they claim to follow. This is just one example.

No one likes their fictitious super hero’s dissed. I had a teddy bear when I was younger, he could always destroy my siblings teddy bears in a fight, his super ted powers were always better no matter what was thrown at him. No one dare say bad things about him.

The story of Job is a horror story! It highlights God's cruelty for no other reason than playing a game with Satan.
Why Christians view this story in such a positive light has never made sense to me, even when I was a devoted Christian myself.

This is my favorite A Perfect Circle song, although to be fair I've only heard this one and 3 Libras.
I understand Maynard's point of the song however as Christians have been "called" to believe, everything happens for a reason. "The many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you.." He will never abandon nor forsake you. "F*** your God, he's the one that did this to you.." There's no sense in blaming him for the bad things that happen. He doesn't let anything like that happen to anyone.
I hate this reaction there is no emotions in these kids. When I heard this song it made me feel something.
