  • Here's a long one! This is the first half of a test flight in the recently released HotStart TBM 900 for X-Plane.
    I had the pleasure of watching this mature over the last few months and it's so great to see it go out to the world. This flight is the departure and cruise of one leg of the transatlantic delivery flight every new TBM goes through to reach the USA. I fly it like I would the real thing.

    Hello, first of all thank you so much for all your videos and especially this one. This is such a treat for amateur like us to hear proper checklist from a pro pilote. And you make it very easy to understand.
    I wondered what piece of software you use for the checklist, the charts and so on ? Like, the one shown on the videos has audio alerts to warn you of the transitional altitude and so on... ?

    FYI you can use SimBrief to download a flightplan directly into the G1000. However SimBrief assumes a cruise climb of 170 knots and not Vy of 124 knots and after several flights comparing the TBM cruise perfomance section the fuel and TAS were identical / or very close to the real numbers👍

  • @ripper8771
    @ripper8771 5 лет назад

    I had so many questions but found all my answers in the real POH. I wish the torque G1000 itorque guage looked the same , but really I am just being picky. I started my virtual Atlantic crossing from Tarbes to Prestwhick. The black switches on black panel are hard to determine their toggle position. I hope they change the color to provide contrast. I love using the TBM perfromance app.

    Spectacular Jason! Is so good to hear all procedures from a real TBM pilot and you explain them so well , thank you. I'm dying to buy this baby (for X-Plane only, unfortunately). So, how does the hand flight compares to the real life?

    • @JasonFlies

    Hey Jason, I have some comments regarding the MFD. When you're on the main map screen and you scroll the big knob to the "Chapters" and you have \MAP/\WPT/\AUX/, Well on the Hotstart tbm AUX is replaced with NRST. Am I missing something or is that just not modeled? And if it isn't, is missing those pages a big deal? I'm being super picky but if they're going to put this much detail into a bird they might as well go all the way.
    Regard, X

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  5 лет назад

      Yeah, my understanding is that part of the model is primarily the built-in Laminar G1000 software. They made some tweaks to it to make it better for the TBM but it wasn't reasonable for them to do all the missing chapters, etc - maybe not even possible? I find I rarely miss them though - in the real plane I would use the Weights page in AUX a little bit to check limits, but not a big deal to not have.

    Hi Jason, (I’m also a 900 pilot), have a question regarding this sim. What computer you use? Do you have like a very powerful computer for gaming? Mine is a Microsoft book pro but is impossible, (to slow)

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  5 лет назад +2

      I actually do a fair bit of gaming, when I can find the time, so I went crazy and sprung for a beefy machine from here: www.originpc.com I used to always build my own but as I age I am tending to favor stuff that "just works" :)

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  5 лет назад +1

      You don't need anything that crazy though, but you do want something with an upgradable graphics card, and a card that was made in last 2 years or so I'd say - laptops almost always have crappy GPUs

    Could you be so kind to quickly comment on aileron trim / input used in the real aircraft, for wings level flight, i.e. is it used to compensate for torque/imbalance throughout the flight much? As far as I can understand, YD should deal with P-factor, does it also do prop torque effect and/or slight fuel imbalances to any degree? Handflying the simproduct (v1.1.9) at high power settings right now feels weird to me in how it requires significant roll trim adjustment throughout.
    Thanks for your excellent videos, they're great!

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  5 лет назад

      It's hard to say, honestly. I do sometimes find that I need to use aileron trim IRL when in the pattern to land, but never really do when taking off and climbing out. Doubt the normal fuel imbalance causes much of an issue with that though. My plane does flight a bit with one wing high, maybe due to the radar pod causing an aerodynamic asymmetry.

    Hello Jason. Many clients of the HotStart TBM 900 are complaining about it’s ground handling especially on the Take/Off Roll. I noticed that you set the rudder trim to neutral on takeoff which is also the only way I can get it to take off straight. Can you confirm that in the real TBM you’d leave the rudder trim centred? According to the TBM instructional video it should be set in the green. ruclips.net/video/o8sc3VlZPUc/видео.html I am a CPL TT 312 hours and never flew a single turbine only single and twin pistons and always have to set rudder trim to compensate for all the t/o forces. Thank you for clarifying.
    Cheers

    • @jasonmiller5956
      @jasonmiller5956 5 лет назад +1

      I take off in the real one with the rudder trim halfway to the green. I do that so I know I will only have to press right-rudder during a typical takeoff. If you put it in the green it is too well centered for me and then I am having to push differing amounts of left AND right rudder while taking off. I prefer to just work with either more or less right rudder required while rolling. For the sim, I just have it centered like you said.
