I got the great opportunity to fly with a fellow ForeFlight guy today in the ICON A5. Brint took me up for a quick hop to splash in a bit of water and get a good feel for how capable the airplane really is. I expected to like it, but after flying it I REALLY like it. :)
I didn't do any commentary on this video, figured the intercom audio spoke for itself. We flew out of 3R9 airport: Lakeway Airpark. Really cool little place.

Definitely. When I got FS I flew only the Icon for the first two days and didn't even try any other planes! The sim version seems to fly exactly like the live videos I've seen. Love this plane.
That is still one of the most fun planes I have flown! Being able to fly with the windows open adds to that immersive experience.
So true! Any airplane where you can take off the windows or doors is awesome in my book!
If these ever become affordable some decade, i can see this being one of the first 'air' cars to go mainstream.
It will only get more expensive because inflation and covid
it will, I do not think this aircraft will reach a big popularity. People with the kind of money to buy a $400,000 aircraft (which is too much money for this airplane in my opinion), will buy a way more serious airplane. Just wait half a decade and the price will get down drastically.
@@DavideCarbonell I agree. I think the icon is absolutely awesome, but you could get a decked out cessna A-185F on floats that will be better at most things for that same price.

Wow!! This is the most realistic video experience flying an icon a5 i´ve found! From the take off to the final landing! That camera or the video editing, holding steady the background, gives a much more truer feeling of the whole scenario! Congrats! And thank you for sharing this experience!

@@rauleli A gimble is the tool that is used to stabilize the footage. A camera gimbal uses motors and sensors to stabilize footage by detecting and counteracting movements in real-time. It adjusts the camera's position to keep it steady, resulting in smooth and stable footage even when the camera or operator moves.
@@-108- I know what a gimble is. I dont think they used a gimble in the gopro (or whatever camera they used) inside cookpit. But thanks for the explanation.

Holy car plane! The minute I saw this on MFS2020 I couldn’t even believe the fact that the cockpit looked so much like a car in which it’s not hard to start up
It's almost like a flying car. This is how all airplanes should be. Easy to start, screw the checklists*, and off to flying.
*JK, actually, you must still follow checklists. While I don't pilot aircraft, it is good to follow safe procedures to prevent a possible accident.

You can even see on the video the airplane begin to accelerate when you relieve back pressure on the stick and it really gets in the step !!!! Super cool deal !!!
great video, between all the demo vids from the company and fooling around in flight sim 2020 with it, i am amazed to see the stall handling and impressed with the smoothness of water landing vs a normal float plane. its quite an engineering feat to see, and i love the AoA focused coaching. i hope more planes and instruction transition to this common sense approach of wing management
agreed, for VFR it feels like all you need is AoA and an Altimeter! Well, maybe a comm radio and a GPS and a transponder to trigger traffic data...but still, amazing what AoA can do! :)

What really stood out was the competence and demeanor of the CFI.
Yeah, he's an accomplished pilot who is nice and relaxed. Made for a really fun yet educational time!

This is not a plane... this is a flying car... it's so easy to fly, even my 7 year old son did it after a few minutes in the sim.

not sure if your tracking but there is also a fuel switch you have to switch on, its above your head took me a bit to realize it lol

That was very very cool. Nice landing for the first splash. I did a demo flight out of SMO and we landed three times on Long Beach Harbor. I wish I had a reason to own one. Or a fifth of one. It seems like one of those great toys to have, but a bit of a pain to have all to yourself.
Yeah, I would never use it enough if I owned it solo, but with 3-4 of the right partners it could be pretty fun!

Add that to your hanger you got all the bases covered. High and fast in the TBM and low and slow with the windows off in the A5. Life is good!

@@JasonFlies I'm surprised Icon doesn't make an enclosed trailer specific for the item for keeping the vehicle clean and possible to even tow and launch at a boat ramp. Doesn't look longer than a 53 foot truck trailer to me anyways nor 13.6 feet high. Not sure about the width tho.

AWESOME. The panel is a bit too “three-wheeler motorcycle” for me though. That being said :-). Great to see competent/expert instruction. This video will sell aircraft - it’s got me checking my debt levels

I see these things in and out of Vacaville Nut Tree Airport all the time.
They're really cool! When we were coming down to land on the lake I was thinking "man, must be neat to see these planes land out here all the time". But I'm guessing most of those lake residents aren't as big a fan of airplanes as I am. ;)
