The ability to taxi up a boat ramp highlights the versatility of the ICON A5 and is one of the most unique experiences you can have in an amphibious seaplane. Utilizing a boat ramp to launch, load, or retrieve your plane at a local marina or seaplane base can unlock flying adventures that aren’t possible in a conventional airplane or even in a seaplane on traditional floats.
While the capability to ramp the A5 provides added versatility, it’s important to do it correctly to make sure you don’t damage the aircraft.
First and foremost, make sure that you take wind and water conditions into consideration, as this will affect your ability to control the aircraft as you maneuver into position. Second, lower the landing gear in the water with plenty of time to allow for both full extension and gear down controllability checks on the water before entering the ramping area so that you have time to bail out if directional control cannot be maintained.
This video outlines some of the most important factors to consider, but it is not meant to be a comprehensive lesson for how to ramp the ICON A5. Every A5 pilot must go through ICON’s landplane or seaplane transition course to be qualified to fly or operate the A5 on the water. Ramping is just one of the many procedures covered in the transition syllabus.

That's great looking smooth water.lm wondering what is considered to much chop to safely operate the aircraft ?
@@colbarney6122 one to two foot waves or wake is pretty much the limit for small seaplane water landings or takeoffs. Any more and you risk dipping the nose, cracking the haul, being pushed broad side and dipping the wings.
Remember this is an airplane that can land on water, but it is not a boat.

Not very economically feasible. I suppose you can do it, but I defeats the purpose of it being an airplane. It wouldn’t make a great boat. It’s also cheaper to just use a boat

There isn't another aircraft out there that I would want... This one is so stable, sexy, and versatile... but where I live, I have absolutely no use for an amphibious plane. Thank you for making such a wonderful craft though!

A5 would be pretty neat if it had a higher useable load... Need room for fishing gear and at least 2 more people... I guess it wouldn't be a light sport aircraft then.

Bad part of this maneuver i assume, is exposing the landing gear mechanism to salt water. Good part would be not having to deal with a airport

+Jonn Nope!! One of the requirements of purchase is that you not know how to fly it. The other requirement is that you take-out a $1 million dollar life insurance with ICON Aircraft listed as the sole beneficiary. *ENJOY!*
I looked it up and you can rent them and get training as a non-buyer.
@@NETBotic yes I did it in Minnesota. You can rent it and go up with an instructor and he will teach you how to water land if you are interested and no you do not even have to be a buyer you can do it just for the experience I will say it’s a bit pricey

I really want one of these aircraft .Never flown an amphibious, but I'm learning already from these videos, give me 10 hours in that thing and im good for the type rating..just cant afford one yet..
They are definitely expensive I heard you can take out loans for airplanes like some kind of airplane loan. I myself just bought a sonex b because it was cheap and very cheap to maintain mine has the turbo volts wagon motor that sonex offered. I can do all the maintenance myself I can literally drop the motor out of the plane in about 20 minutes rebuild it in a night and put it back in if the inspector finds anything wrong
@@teamgo9980 honestly, you make the right and smart choice... the icon 5 can look futuriste and kind of apple, DJI generation, but the price its insane to me, its a 400k seedoo !!!!! yes its a seadoo with wings that's all ! with 400k we can have a serious aircraft.

Controlability is not a word you just use control
Well if people say it, then it becomes a word, this is how linguistic progression works. The controlability on language is quite hardly tangible.
The controlmanuvability is amazaling.
Man the cockpit is more like a car which is good for new comers and the water landing just takes the cake

The 2021 A5 features an optional Garmin G3X Touch with autopilot.
Minor point, no such word as "winds", it is just "wind". Some words in the English language you do not put an "S" on the end, like "Deer" and "Anyway".
