  • Part four of the video series looking at the Hotstart TBM 900 in X-Plane 11. Flying the traffic pattern or airfield circuit at Dundee EGPN with emphasis on flying visually looking out the window, and not focusing on the PFD. We look at two high patterns at 1500ft, and two normal patterns at 1000ft. During the course of the video we also manually fly a missed approach / go around, and two touch-and-goes. Finally we look at motoring the engine after shutdown to prepare for a short turnaround.
    Errors, Omissions, Clarifications:-
    Video 4 - Pattern Work
    - Short Field Takeoff
    - High Pattern
    - Manual Go-Around
    - Normal Pattern
    - Touch and Go
    - Landing
    - Shutdown
    - Motoring

    Most enjoyable and informative video. My thanks for not inflicting cloying, abrasive or noisy “background music” to drive us to utter distraction. One takeaway: no matter the cost of the aircraft it still obeys the fundamentals of aerodynamics and physics. And your Scots brogue is a distinct pleasure to hear. Mazaltov!

      Thanks for the nice feedback, yes indeed once you realise all aircraft basically work on the same principles it becomes easier to find familiarity between different types.

    This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for! I’m a rusty instrument pilot, and find your videos the best out there for professionally flying in a simulator. I use the TBM as it’s really well integrated with the RealSimGear G1000 panel and forces me to keep up with a faster aircraft.

    Thanks a lot, learn a lot from your videos. You deserve a lot more subscribers.
    Just bought the TBM900 after watching several of your videos (Have looked most of them now a few times :-) and after that I going to start at part 1 again but now while flying the TBM while I watch your tutorials on my second screen so I can do the same things)
    You are right, only flew it 1 time, but I am impressed already. The G1000 holded me back (GTN750 fan with not so good eyes) but in your videos I saw it had much more function as the default one.
    And I have the KA350 too but instead of a real study-model it was a bit a disappointment, they modeled a lot but you can mis-use it without damage. Their is still no wear or damage modeled (as promised)
    I fly most times only Alaska but I am going to give Scotland a try, your scenery looks very nice and I have very good memories from my holidays in Scotland (in the 90's on my motorbike)

      Thanks for the nice comment. Yes the G1000 is a lot better than the default G1000. When released only HotStart had the keypad interface to the LR G1000 which made it a lot better. I understand the latest version of X-Plane implments the key commands so you'll see more addons with that from now on. But the TBM900 is a really complete package. I was keen to try the AFL King Air, as I'm a real King Air fan, but I'm holding off for now as I'm not sure if AFL are planning to support it for much longer.

    • @pa4tim

      @@ReflectedRealitySimulations Eye-candy of the KA350 is OK, it works without problems and the 2D popups and menus work very nice. It has a very nice checklist function but doing the complete checklist takes more then an hour and a lot of things are useless because they can not fail. I do not mind checking things if they can fail. Not for the sake of the checking itself. If I was a real pilot it would be good to practice the flow but I am not a pilot (I have not even seen a GA plane in real) But it seems the development for the KA is indeed abandoned.
      The G1000 of Aerobask planes is nice, not so much for extra functions but they use the extra keyboard in the E1000 but also made some parts mouse or real keyboard operational. You click for instance at a frequency or barometer etc, then a nummeric keypad pops up and you enter the value, but you can also use the mouse wheel. Very nice. The Epic E1000 has also simulated fuses. As far as I know you can not kill the engine and there is no wear or tear but it flies very nice, looks great and almost everything is modelled. Also the Quest Kodiak is very nice. It has no wear but you can damage the engine and if you have the REP addon it does have some wear and tear. Together with the TBM my favorite planes.
      Also interesting is the DHC-6-300 from RWD, a very smart guy who was not satisfied with the modelling , Anthony, is tweaking it to the extreme. He has replicated the whole electric system down to the smallest details for most using his own code (in Python) , he added damage and wear , but also things like you can get fire if you overheat the ducts, or your windows fog calculated from temperatures, airflow and the number of passengers, voices of passengers, Xrain etc. Every switch now has a real function. He just finished version 10. All the mods he made will cost most developers a year or more, he did it in 2 months or so and he is still adding things. He documents it in a topic on the forum. forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/199688-tweaks-to-test/&page=18&tab=comments#comment-1975851

    Great video on patterns in the TBM or for that matter any GA plane. All your videos are first rate and I use the TBM ones to train in that plane. One question - how to do you get the green bearing arrow to show up in the OBS? Many thanks!

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  3 года назад

      Thanks for the nice comment. The bearing pointer is accessed via the "PFD" softkey and then cycle the options for BRG1 and BRG2 as required. If you set the bearing pointer to GPS it will show a pointer for the current waypoint, and as you're navigating direct-to the airport it will point there. Hope that makes sense?

    Priceless Video ! Thank You so much. There is any chance You can address simulated engine failure on downwind, and outside traffic patter ? ( Emergency are such an important part of the training and a professional explanation of the procedures in general and related to the TBM would be fantastic ) Thank You so much for your time and sharing priceless knowledge !

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 года назад

      Glad you liked the video. I don't tend to do simulated failures for a few reasons. On a multi-crew aircraft it's very difficult to do that correctly as single pilot, not so much an issue with the TBM. However learning how to deal with all the different abnormal cases is a much bigger job than learning normal operation - you could spend a whole video series just looking at failures. However, if there's enough demand it's something I would consider later!

    • @icarus1273

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  3 года назад

      Thanks for the nice comment. I tend to use 7-8-9 as forward left - overhead panel - forward right, 4-5-6 as left wing - centre panel - right wing, 1-2-3 is left pilot view then usually centre lower panel and console depending on the aircraft. Hope that makes sense.

    Another excellent video. This may be redundant but do you have your pitch controls mapped to your joystick or are you using the XP keyboard. I currently use the keyboard and find it less than satisfactory. I tried using the trim button on the 900 yoke, but then taking my eyes off the horizon was also a problem. Guess I have said a lot to simply say I am struggling with trim.

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 года назад +1

      Hello Edward. I have pitch trim on my joystick but more often than not use the keyboard. I use. HOME and END as pitch trim, DELETE and PG DOWN as rudder and INSERT and PG UP as aileron trims do I can find them easily with my left hand without looking down.
